18.Because he has a really impressive set of knives.
19.He can hunt boar.

~Lirpa~ 03-24-2006, 05:14 PM 27. Because he's played by the awesome Terry O'Quinn, who couldn't be portayed by anyone better!
EasterEgg 03-24-2006, 05:17 PM 28. Because he has secrets (legs, seeing monster, dreams of Walkabout)
29. What Lirpa said! Seriously, he's a real actor - he lets us see into his character's heart.
30. Because even though he's been hurt a lot, he still reaches out to people.
31. Because of his smile.
~Lirpa~ 03-30-2006, 01:15 PM 32. Because, especially after what we saw last night, Locke need our love!
Blue Coral 03-31-2006, 09:30 AM 33. because everytime they show his flashback you just want to give him a hug.
~Lirpa~ 03-31-2006, 04:40 PM 34. Because Locke really needs someone in his life and we all know we'd be the first to volunteer to do so!
fruitloop 03-31-2006, 04:45 PM 35. He is so much like my dad..even looks like him...and somewhat like my husband...who being the father of 4 girls would have certainly decked Charlie even though he liked him..
lockeisthekey 04-01-2006, 05:29 PM 36. because he's been hurt, but he's still willing to trust over and over again
EasterEgg 04-01-2006, 05:39 PM 34. Because Locke really needs someone in his life and we all know we'd be the first to volunteer to do so!
I'll back that one up!
37. Because of the way he asked Helen to marry him. That sudden vulnerability, that hope.....and the way he looked at his father in the bar; that vulnerability again, that open book look of his - TOQ is a fine, fine actor!
bellablue 04-05-2006, 03:10 PM Basically everything that's been said, plus:
38. Because he's given new hope to all men over 50 who are bald.
39. Because (bit schmaltzy, sorry) he's given paraplegics everywhere some street
cred.
40. Because he has the most amazing green eyes.

Love Bella xx
Blue Coral 04-13-2006, 08:18 PM 41. Because he will stand up to whoever he has to.
42. Because he's not scared to take chances.
43. Because when he believes in something, it's strong. And I admire that.
Jealous_Guy 04-26-2006, 12:59 PM 44. When Locke and Boone are alone in the jungle and it starts to rain, Locke holds his arms wide open as if to embrace it, then he flashes Boone this terrific smile. I think it was that exact moment, the first time I saw that, that I realized I was totally digging this show more than any doctor would say is healthy :D
~Lirpa~ 04-26-2006, 01:46 PM That's my favorite scene, JG!
NathanielStarr 05-06-2006, 08:34 PM 33. Because he is the most interesting character on television
Lost_Fugitive 05-12-2006, 02:20 PM I think Hurley said it best in 'Walkabout': "Who is this guy?"
:)
Locke is a true team leader. He helps others grow as individuals, speaks at their level and doesn't judge. He listens to what they have to say.
He gets some of the coolest lines/moments in the series.
Locke is such an enigma.
He is strong willed. He is a man of faith.
He is knowledgeable of many things.
He is interested in the mystery of the island.
The man has been through a lot with his disability and parents.
lockeisthekey 05-17-2006, 02:38 PM He is interesting to watch. I'm never bored when John is on the screen.
xzeox 05-18-2006, 06:42 AM It seems he makes the show more dramatic while he is onscreen, I honestly think he is one of the best actors on the show.
Liplocked 05-22-2006, 09:53 AM He rumbles the jungle better than Rambo - and treats it with a good deal more respect - and looks better shoeless than McClane.
Step aside boys - there's a new John in town.
lockeisthekey 06-02-2006, 02:06 PM he is HUMAN. he has flaws, and the flaws serve to make him all the more
interesting.
I totally relate to John. I know what it is like to feel like a nameless peon.
To feel as though your existence is meaningless, and that you MUST have
a deeper destiny!
~Lirpa~ 06-02-2006, 02:13 PM Anne, I think we can all see a little of ourselves in Locke. Maybe that's why his fans are so devoted to him. Maybe that's why people who don't like Locke dislike him so much. Because they seem themselves in him and don't like it!
Dude! A new revelation!
Jes121 06-05-2006, 06:18 AM It seems he makes the show more dramatic while he is onscreen, I honestly think he is one of the best actors on the show.
I agree totally! Terry O'Quinn is a great actor and he plays Locke with real depth and makes us care for him :)
~Lirpa~ 06-05-2006, 01:59 PM Terry is beyond amazing!
Jes121 06-05-2006, 05:31 PM Terry is beyond amazing!
*nods head vigourously*
lockeisthekey 06-08-2006, 03:56 AM Terry IS the best actor on the show, imo. Not to in any way take away from the
rest of the cast. With one exception, the cast of LOST is the best on tv.
Why I love John Locke-- I'll say it. HE IS THE SEXIEST MAN ALIVE!
~Lirpa~ 06-08-2006, 03:24 PM He's so damn sexy! He's a Sexy Beast! :D
Liplocked 06-13-2006, 07:34 AM he is HUMAN. he has flaws, and the flaws serve to make him all the more
interesting.
I totally relate to John. I know what it is like to feel like a nameless peon.
To feel as though your existence is meaningless, and that you MUST have
a deeper destiny!
A-bleedin'-men! glad you said that - I was afraid to admit it.
When you're female, over 40 and not the CEO of Megabucks Corp, society treats you pretty much the way it did John while he was in that chair.
I'm an underachieving, hidden handicapped, one organ down wanna be SOMETHING! Joining the Navy, Police or Firefighters would have suited my desire to be something other than a waste producing consumer of the Earth's resources perfectly, but... 'they' told me I couldn't.
I'd of happily settled for being an engineer but was told it wasn't a job for a woman - it was the soddin' eighties for goodness' sake, not the eighteenth century!
lol - I could rant all day  but I'll leave you with my revenge instead: when I was sweet 16, I joined the Scouts (John was a Scout too); and learned to kayak, canoe, rock climb, abseil, skate and ski. I can dam a stream to make a bathing pool, build a bivauaq to sleep in, I'm a good shot with a rifle and my archery's reasonable. I can cook a full English roast in 3 biscuit tins over a fire pit, walk 30 miles a day get up and do it over, and over again, and - at a push admittedly - I can bleedin' well FLY!
(But my navigation's rubbish  and I can't claim ever to have built a seige machine.)
When I was 7 they told me I couldn't have kids - but I have 3 ;) they're my destiny; they'll contribute - I hope - to society in ways I've been denied by TPTB telling me what I can't do.
So, Go John! :clap:and don't let the 'model students' grind you down.
DharmaMaria 06-13-2006, 12:22 PM why we love locke hmmmmm well, let me count the ways....
Like you said Lirpa: Hes too sexy for his shirt, too sexy for his pants, too sexy for the knives, too sexy for the hatch............
Locke Locke Hooray!!!!!
Well anyway you get the picture!
And Lirpa, speaking of pants, I am still looking for The Stepfather
:::::::ringing up blockbuster in the next town::::::::
~Lirpa~ 06-13-2006, 02:35 PM I love it, Maria!
Good luck finding The Stepfather!
zentrxtr 06-18-2006, 12:31 AM 33. Because John represents the "man of faith". In a way, he has no choice. But to see doubt and even despair on his face in the S2 finale, that was devastating!
Namaste, and good luck!
~Lirpa~ 06-19-2006, 02:11 PM That's because Terry is such a brilliant actor!
Liplocked 06-19-2006, 03:00 PM 33. Because John represents the "man of faith". In a way, he has no choice. But to see doubt and even despair on his face in the S2 finale, that was devastating!
Namaste, and good luck!
Time he challenged his god then as well as having faced the monster... love him for surviving. *hugs for John*
Eek! kick off... bye!
jbdean 08-06-2006, 04:15 AM I love Locke because he doesn't quit. Even when he gave up on the computer, he channeled that energy into not pushing the button. And when he was wrong, he admitted it. He's stronger than he gives himself credit for being. I love Locke because he's a survivor!
~Lirpa~ 08-06-2006, 10:00 AM I think Locke is more of a survivor than a lot of the other castaways. Of course, their fans wouldn't agree. ;)
jbdean 08-06-2006, 05:08 PM Time he challenged his god then as well as having faced the monster... love him for surviving. *hugs for John*
Eek! kick off... bye!I loved him for that, too. He's been through so much. I really do love this character.
~Lirpa~ 08-06-2006, 05:09 PM Some like to say Locke was a wimp, but I think a weaker man would have given up long ago.
He was put upon so much--by his boss, his father who took his kidney; the list goes on. I enjoyed seeing him become his own man.
Liplocked 08-31-2006, 07:05 PM This is one reason: "Yeah, I've had a lot of jobs I didn't want to do. I still did them. I'm sorry, Hugo, you don't get to quit."
What do you suppose that means? To quote Hurley here: "Who is this guy?"
~Lirpa~ 08-31-2006, 11:38 PM What do we think what means, Lip? Locke or Hurley's quote?
lockeisthekey 09-01-2006, 05:22 AM you know... the bottom line on why I love John Locke?
Terry O'Quinn's brilliant portrayal. In a lesser actor's hands, this role
could be just a cliche'. Terry breathes life into him, and makes him so
real that I actually think of John as being a completely separate entity
while I'm watching! He's so good that it makes me ache.
~Lirpa~ 09-01-2006, 11:05 AM I hear you, Anne, and couldn't agree more. When I'm watching Terry play Locke, I do not see Terry, but only see Locke. That's a sign of a brilliant actor.
lockeisthekey 09-03-2006, 05:35 AM yes. Brilliant is the word I just used to describe his acting in another thread.
who thinks John is wimpy? he seems far from weak or wimpy to me.
~Lirpa~ 09-03-2006, 10:55 AM I was referring to those people who posted that Locke was a wimp in S2. We all have our weak points, but that doesn't mean we are weak or a wimp.
lostlocke 09-03-2006, 06:05 PM I never saw Locke as a wimp either. I do have to say I liked him better in the first season when he was a confident boar hunter. Or even in the beginning of season 2 pre-fenry!! As soon as he came on is when Locke started losing his faith and confidence in everything. I hated the fact that he believed when Fenry lied to him about never pushing the button in Lockdown. I think Locke is smarter than that. I look forward to season 3 and what happens with des, eko and locke in the hatch and how locke progresses as a character and what we learn through his flashbacks this season.
~Lirpa~ 09-03-2006, 06:18 PM Is that when Locke's faith started to fail? I think it had already started, because here he was pushing a button, sitting behind a dest just like when he worked at the box factory. I think Locke thought he was meant to do more than that will his life. I think Henry just reinforced Locke's doubts.
Lovin_Locke 09-03-2006, 09:13 PM This is one reason: "Yeah, I've had a lot of jobs I didn't want to do. I still did them. I'm sorry, Hugo, you don't get to quit."
What do you suppose that means? To quote Hurley here: "Who is this guy?"
My guess as to what Locke was saying? Sometime life sucks. Suck it up and go on. No one ever said life was fair.
(I had 4 teenagers, I only had time for snappy one liner comebacks. )
Hurley - He was stuck with a job he knew everyone was going to get mad at him for no matter how well he did that job. Locke didn't tell him how to do the job - just that Hurley had to get it done. Whether Hurley felt good, bad or indifferent about doing it. End results mattered.
~Lirpa~ 09-03-2006, 09:27 PM I think that's correct, Lovin. Locke certainly did have some unpleasant jobs. The most, that we saw, was the one at the box factory where Randy treated him like crap. At least Hurley didn't have anyone lauding that over him.
lockeisthekey 09-07-2006, 03:29 AM Is that when Locke's faith started to fail? I think it had already started, because here he was pushing a button, sitting behind a dest just like when he worked at the box factory. I think Locke thought he was meant to do more than that will his life. I think Henry just reinforced Locke's doubts.
John thought that he would find his destiny inside that place... and instead he
ended up basically back doing what he did at the factory-- he was a button pusher.
what a let down!
FauxHenry shows up and basically rubs it in his face that Jack is The Man... and
that John is just his lackey. Seeds of disatisfaction ensue...
then, John goes with Eko and discovers another hatch! New Hope!
only to be shown to be a fool.
No wonder his anger got the best of him, leading him to destroy the computer.
Man, I can't wait to see what happens next.
~Lirpa~ 09-07-2006, 09:27 AM Hmmm, that's pretty much what I was saying, Anne. ;)
I'm actually role playing Locke just before he destroyed the computer. I took some creative liberty as to what might have made him so determined to do so, in spite of everything we saw on the show. If you are interested, check it out here. (http://community.livejournal.com/redemption_isle/23378.html) It takes place after Locke and Charlie have talked about what happened in F&W when Locke punched Charlie.
Mighty_Squid 09-07-2006, 10:50 AM Random Reason:
When he says "you're welcome" he really means it.
~Lirpa~ 09-21-2006, 12:36 PM How do I love thee, Locke? Let me count the ways...
Hee, couldn't resist.
I love Locke because he's so mysterious! I love Locke because he's so proud! I love Locke because, even though 'it's never been easy!' he's always kept his belief!
Distress Signal 09-21-2006, 04:28 PM I love Locke because, even though 'it's never been easy!' he's always kept his belief!
Except in ?-LTDA. Sorry, but I had to point that out.
Can I give one reason, because Locke is played by Terry O'Quinn?
~Lirpa~ 09-21-2006, 05:56 PM JJ Abrams could not have picked a better man to play John Locke. That is for certain! Terry O'Quinn rocks!
LockeNess Smoke Monster 09-22-2006, 08:19 PM I like his backgammon skills.
good times.
~Lirpa~ 09-22-2006, 08:22 PM LockeNess Smoke Monster, I love your name!
I love how Locke loves to play games. All sorts. ;)
JanesAddiction72 09-23-2006, 11:04 AM I love Locke cause he is a man of action. I love Locke cause he is bald and bald is sexy! I love Locke cause he is willing to take a chance!
~Lirpa~ 09-23-2006, 01:12 PM I love Locke because he has courage. He's willing to face his fears in the scariest of situations. Look at how he told Jack to let go of him, when Smokey was dragging him down that hole!
Sleepy Emry 09-23-2006, 01:31 PM I love Locke because he is intelligent, perceptive and funny. He's not afraid to admit when he's wrong, but he will fight for what he believes is right.
I can't wait to see how his character develops in S3...
Distress Signal 09-23-2006, 03:30 PM I love him because even though he's a good person and we know where he came from in the past, he's still shrouded in mystery and we don't know what to expect from him next.
~Lirpa~ 09-23-2006, 03:32 PM Aint that the truth, Distress! I love how everyone can see a little of themselves in John Locke. And I believe that's more the case with Locke, then any of the other characters.
TXLovesLocke 11-06-2006, 10:59 PM I love Locke because:
He is now back in his element and out of that hatch.
..of the twinkle in his eye when he saw "patchy"...He loves the island and it's mysteries
His relationship with Mr. Eko remains a puzzle, up until what EKO REALLY WHISPERED in Locke's ear ?? We are not sure.
SeasidePhireFly 11-06-2006, 11:13 PM Because he takes on a father role to other characters in need sometimes. Walt and Boone especially in season 1. I would have said the same for Charlie, but it seemed to me he treated Charlie more like a peer.
~Lirpa~ 11-07-2006, 02:15 PM I love Locke because even if he starts to lose faith he always bounces back!
I love Locke because the hunter is back!
I love Locke because he remains a mystery and enigma!
