View Full Version : first impression
bright light 02-22-2006, 03:23 PM Ok, here are two questions for you all.
What was your first impression of lost? (what you thought it was about) and what made you watch it?
For me the first impression of lost was that I was rather confused because the adverts were all over the place with the characters in weird costumes from like the '20s or something, so I was not very impressed in the ad it said one of us is a ... here’s who I thought would be what:
One of us is a hero - Sawyer
One of us is a junkie - Kate
One of us is a murderer - Hurley
What made me watch it was basically being frozen out of conversations at school cause I didn't know what they were on about .
Of course now I'm addicted.
I don't know if this thread has been done before or anything - well that was my first proper thread how'd I do?
lmwwashington2 02-22-2006, 04:16 PM I'm not from the UK but I had to drop in and check it out.... I didn't watch the first season on T.V. either... I was pretty much in the same boat as you ^ though, everyone I worked with & listened to on the radio... went on and on about it. I ended up buying the first season on DVD and have been HOOKED ever since!!!
ETA... Very good job BL!!!
bright light 02-22-2006, 04:32 PM thankyou :D
ClaireFun 02-23-2006, 06:04 AM Nice idea for a first thread, yes. :) I only got into it recently, after the 1st series had finished. I didn't see the ads (I don't watch TV, I've only really got it for watching DVDs on) or hear much about it in magazines (again, not watching much TV I don't get those kind of magazines). Eventually though the buzz filtered through, even to me, from radio talk and friends, so I downloaded some. It then took me about a month of having the eps to actually getting round to watching them, due to Christmas and my 18 month old. Once I watched the first episode, I was hooked, and since then I've watched one or two episodes every night I was able to, and finally now I'm caught up to the americans, next aired episode will be my first one of watching at the same time as everyone else (give or take the time difference, of course). But now I have to wait for an episode which I'm finding really hard!
bright light 02-23-2006, 01:18 PM lol well you dont have your brother black mailing you with the dvds :( so far ive made his dinner washed all the dishes rented him a dvd took back the dvd and still im only up 2 ep 8 1/2 because i went into his room and stole them when he was out ( i got into trouble for that) it was worth it though!
another question to go with the first how do you think it will end?
ie them getting saved everyone being eaten etc
i think they will be saved hopefully with everyone still alive most likely by some army and hopefully with charlie sawyer and huley still alive!
whispervixen 02-24-2006, 08:14 AM I had heard of the show and seen bits of here and there long before it came to UK TV and had heard so much about it from friends in the States (plus I saw a few episodes while I was over there in June last year), so I knew exactly what it was about before I watched it on Ch4.
I must admit, I was a little confused by those adverts, but I thought they were very creative and loved them :p. So, my first impression was I knew I was going to like the show, I just didnt know I'd end up loving it as much as I do now! It's the first show I've been obsessed with since The X Files :jump1:.
Darkbear 02-25-2006, 01:07 PM It's the first show I've been obsessed with since The X Files.
Totally. I saw the pilot 1&2 when it was first shown on C4 and absolutely adored it, but then managed to miss it completely until 'Whatever the Case Maybe', then watched it religiously from that point onwards.
Have the box set for Season 1, Part 1 and am saving for Part 2. I don't download as my broadband connection is seriously dodgy.
Bright Light - great thread but please remember that some of us havent downloaded Season 2 and while we get the gist of what's happening we try and avoid too many spoilers. I didn't know anything about Charlie, Sawyer and Hurley being suspected of being dead and I'm normally posting on the Lost Forum..... Please could you keep the details to a minimum? Thanks.
bright light 02-25-2006, 06:55 PM lol dont worry that wasnt a spoiler its all ok! what i ment was i dont want them to be killed of like boone in seson 1 i presume if uve not got the 2nd half u wont know that so i spoiler taged it its from seson 1:D no spoilers here! i wont put spoilers in the uk section :D
Michaud 02-25-2006, 07:03 PM I missed the first few episodes, and then started watching on E4 around episode 5 or 6 (can't honestly remember too clearly now BL). Missed a few here and there so imported the DVD from the States (full series 1) and caught up.
Yep....hooked since I bought the DVD I suppose. There's something immensely enjoyable about watching Lost on DVD without adverts - it's lovely to watch the high-def quality of the filming and so on. Movie-like if you watch two or three back-to-back.

Don't worry Bright Light I saw that epi when it appeared on TV. ;) I've seen to the end of Season 1 same as everybody else, but nothing but spoilers from Season 2. I will be pleased when C4 pull theirs thumbs out of their  and get Season 2 on... :drowsy:

Thanx!
I think it's only because after about 2.3 all the spoilers become unintelligible if you have no idea what they're talking about! So eventually you stop reading them as mean nothing to you.
It is nice watching the DVDs but I do tend to get dehydrated without the ad breaks! However, I don't miss the 118 gimps...
bright light 02-25-2006, 07:23 PM hehe they were great :D
Darkbear 02-25-2006, 07:27 PM hehe they were great :D
For the first six episodes with about 10 ad breaks in each. After that, they're appeal started to wain... :ohwell::undecide::rolleyes:
bright light 02-25-2006, 07:35 PM just a bit ... worst ad breack was at the begining like at a realy anoying bit after the recap and the titleit was a break
Darkbear 02-25-2006, 07:47 PM just a bit ... worst ad breack was at the begining like at a realy anoying bit after the recap and the titleit was a break
Totally! That's sooooo irritating! I used to hate that. You just got comfortable and your brain in gear and then they cut to an ad break! Grrr!
Michaud 02-26-2006, 05:49 AM However, I don't miss the 118 gimps...
Channel 4 always seem to have the most annoying mini-ads before their programs (except perhaps ITV Weather). I don't miss them, but know I'll have to endure them once more when Series 2 starts!
just a bit ... worst ad breack was at the begining like at a realy anoying bit after the recap and the titleit was a break
So annoying, but just be gald you're not in the States. A half-hour episode of the Simpsons would have a break straight after the first scene. Friends was the same - 3 (or maybe even four) ad breaks per episode.
Anyway.... back to topic...
Genesis of Science 02-26-2006, 08:42 AM I got into lost in a similar way to Bright Light, not not understanding what was being talked about in school led me to sit through an episode  .
After the first one I was hooked, and since then I've aquired up to the minute updates from the good ol' US.
I might as well do a little bit of clarification here too - I am Bright Light's dearest brother - the one who is "blackmailing" her for the episodes of Lost I have in my possession :dgrin:. After she stole up to episode 8 from me (ransacking my school bag) I thought it best she be punished. As petty as I am I couldn't find anything better to do to her than deny her the episodes she so desperately desires.
She might get them someday.... but that day is not today :dgrin:.

bright light 02-26-2006, 09:51 AM dearest! ha!
whispervixen 02-26-2006, 09:45 PM Buying the DVD was one of the first things I did too after watching the pilot. I ordered the Region 1 set as I couldnt wait for the R2 set plus I couldnt stand the fact it was split into 2.
I dont think I left my room in 2 days until I had watched every episode. Bliss
evassu esaelp 03-15-2006, 01:14 PM I watched the first episode and didnt think much to it but then i was flicking through the channels on the claire/eithan episode and i got hooked after that, i went and bought the 1st part of season 1 on dvd and i think lockes first episode would have got me hooked aswell.
littlewitch 03-18-2006, 01:19 AM thought i wouldn't like it as couldn't get head round first couple episodes but from episode 4-5 i've been hooked. bring on season 2 i say.
KelseyLovesBoone 03-24-2006, 07:08 PM My first impression was ooh a bit of action in a tv show for once lol but it was actually my brother that got me into it I was to excited about my holiday next week:biggrin:
