I think the point was what Sawyer said - if they should get rescued, then not only the rescue boats would come, but also the media and whatever. and of course someone would have known that Kate is a fugitive. and she thought that if she can get off of the island before anyone even notices that they're all alive, she could flee
and I think that at the end it was a decision to stay - if she really would've wanted a spot on the raft she would've got it
