Ok, I'm pretty new to the whole diary thing. But is it supposed to be written by one person? Because the handwriting changes between days 10 and 13. (I'm sure this probably doesn't matter, but I haven't seen anyone mention it yet.) Also, is there a day 11 and 12 and I missed them?

That's really interesting! Perhaps Boone and Locke will find her under whatever that metal thing was (which I believe to be some underground tunnels or something). Though I hope they show that ep again; I don't remember what Joanna looks like.

I have said since Joanna drowned (posts are around here somewhere, and all over the ABC site back then) that there is something under the water, like a sub, or a sealab, or something! And maybe Joanna is captured and not dead! And now, we have a "sealab" under the ground???? Maybe all the metallic noises associated with the MONSTER noises is actually caused by this new metal Locke n Boone have found....

Aside from the mysteries posed with Lousiana and the Hospital (a hint at a possible link between survivors?), and the whole Joanna mystery, I wondered something. Does anyone think the pedophile reference means anything? I mean for the most part it just seems like she is throwing things out, and haha she doesn't know how right she is about one. But then I got to wondering if both of those (Drug Addict and Pedophile) were added very purposefully, and not just the Drug addict bit. If she is right about one, could she be right about the other? Does the fact that there really is a drug addict on the island make the reference to pedophile a clue? Is one of our castaways a pedophile, or maybe a falsely accused pedophile or something? I sincerely hope not, but it kind of kept bugging me.

Are they not going to update the diary during this hiatus? Any idea? You'd think they could at least throw us *that* bone!

hey scott, no one really knows who is writing the diary. plus its changed a lot since the first few weeks of the show. if you look through the other threads there are tons of posts about who is writing the diary. its another mystery about this show that keeps the viewers thinking.

ive read through the diary many times and each time i come away with something different. to me it seems to be a woman writing it and she states several times how she was feeling sick and nauseous. first thing i thought this chick isnt sick she is pregnent. then i was like where did that idea pop into my head. but there have been many threads trying to figure out who is writing the diary but i dont think we will find out until the season ends.

Have you ever read anybody's diary, then later regret it, or have read a dairy just to see what it says about you? What did you think about what it said about yourself?

polar bear poo!!! I re-watch all 11 episodes i have on dvd and i could swear that every time a event happened that was in the diary i saw the same chick over and over again. Brown hair, brown shirt and white pants. she even has a bag with her a lot towards the end of those episodes like #10 and #11, and she was always present. she had a notebook or small pad of some kind...it was just creepy the way i noticed her the most. I made a effort to ignore the main characters and focus on the background people instead. had someone posted the question to the guy suggested? Raggs and Dawn?

I would love soooo much to be able to think that Sun is writing the diary, because of the cool little things about her past we could fill in and the fact that Jin wouldn't be able to read it, so she'd feel safe writing it...but, alas, the writer has too much of a grasp of American slang and style.

But I DO think seriously that the writer could be the character who is running out of meds...who is to say that the whispers they heard were Sayid's and Danielle's whispers...hehehe

The diary has finally been updated to Day 24.

I checked the diary today and the last page says day 26 (cont.) but when I click back it skips to day 24. Is it just me or is it like this for everyone?

I had forgotten what laughter sounded like. Everyone got really into it, even betting on the action -- I won an extra helping of boar meat off Larry when Jack made his putt -- what a sucker! People are already lined up to play tomorrow. I never was any good at that game. But I suppose now I've got the time to practice.

After our golf game yesterday, I decided to hang out at the caves for awhile and enjoy my extra serving of boar meat. We were all having a good time, sitting around the campfire. Sawyer even broke out a couple of bottles of airplane booze and cigarettes. Larry was off behind the fire, staring at us. The guy really creeps me out. So when everyone else headed back to the beach, I decided to camp out at the caves. It was pretty comfortable until Claire woke up screaming. I guess she was having some sort of nightmare. My sister had the craziest dreams when she was pregnant. Anyways, after that, I couldn't fall back to sleep, so I hiked back down here to the beach where I found Sawyer cozied up with that chick Kate. Should've walked back with him when I had the chance.

Now not sure why they are editing it. I have each day saved when it was up on the site...There was never a day 15 only night 15, is that what you are asking about?* As for what ep it is i believe in between the golf game and Claires dreams so it was around Daddy issues

I've have three alternatives (after reading other posts on the subject, I've to admit..) :-\
I know it's a girl/woman, non of the mains and not Rose. One of the younger ones, probably.
First I thought it was the blond with the blue striped short shirt, since she was the first minor I recognized, but since then I've changed my opinion somewhat, and I think I know now...... Hopefully we will see more of her in the future ;)

At least we have snow here (better than rain, which it usually is in the winter), but it is cold and windy so one becomes frozen stiff in about 5 minuts....

Usually the winter is like that in the south of Sweden, but somethings different this year, we have actually had 3 weeks of cold wether and snow!!! The kids are overjoyed of course :)

However, when going through the diary, I fully understand whey thy changed the S/K part......

Yes that's the one. Occurs in all situations the DW talks about, was talking to Kate before she tells Jack about Joanna and so on.

the most interesting thing is wether the Diary really IS a funny detail, which has nothing to do with the story (id so, why edit some parts of the diary ??? ), or has become something more. IMO she started out as a funny detail, but has know ended up as "extra material" :laugh:

Unless the DW has another set of cloths it's not her.

Since Joanna and the DW were friends I would say I's fairly safe to conclude that Kate got the info about Joanna from her in some way or another, possibly via the middelaged lady.......

losty, if you haven't read it from last season, you can go back and read all the entries by clicking on the little back arrow on the bottom of the page; I'm going to assume you can go all the way back to the beginning, I didn't try it myself. ;) I'd suggest you take a look at it, it was a lot of fun last year to see the new entries after each show. I'm glad they brought it back.

Could be; that's how I saw it at first too (which would be par for the course for the island and the show). But remember, they've spent 40+ days eating unprocessed, "organic" food (not counting the plane food in the beginning). Their bodies have probably de-toxed a bit, and so they aren't used to eating things like candy and potato chips, which are chock-full of chemicals and preservatives. Not to mention, they probably scarfed stuff down pretty quickly (and the writer made it sound like there was some gorging going on). I think my stomach might be rebelling, too, in a similar situation. ;)

that is def a good point. Even now.. If I eat fast food I get sooo sick. I don't eat it anymore, so every 6 months when it does happen I pay for it. Same thing with eating fast. Remember those stories from WWII when some of the rescued holocost victims died bc they ate too quickly. Not that our cataways are going to keel over from some chips. But it could still make them ill....

We are starting to get some clues about the new diary writer. In the latest entry we have him/her talking about where they were when the tailies showed up. Also, the entry referes to meters instead of yards. I haven't gone back to look at the eppy yet, but I will. Is anyone else looking into this?

I am also more convinced than ever that it is being written by the mole this season.

I really like this page of the diary. In reaction to protecting children and "why does this wane as the child grows" I see parallels between the weakness and vulnerability of children and the weaknesses and vulnerabilities of the lostaways on the island.

Protecting children is mostly seen as a human duty. You take care of your smaller members of society. Those tiny members in turn pledge much loyalty to those who protect them - parents, guardians, mentors - whoever.

However, what happens to the children who suffer, who are used and abused by adults? They grow up with no sense of loyalty to anyone (a la Sawyer) and a fierce self-protective streak. This wouldn't make for a very peaceful society would it...

I can see how a group wanting to acquire some power over a populace would be attracted to the children. Children are such blank little slates! Adults have a responsibility to do the job of raising them right. But they are paid back in respect and allegiance by these children as they grow. So when they are adults, you might end up with a very strong, loyal band of followers, willing to do anything you asked of them.

If they are not molded correctly as they grow though, they begin to think for themselves and are of generally less benefit to a malevolent dictator type. So the interest in young children is great. Older humans are more troublesome to break or brainwash.

It's an interesting and cool plot development in regard to The Others and their ultimate goals. Real power devolves from convincing people to join your mission without question simply out of love and loyalty.

Think of this situation in that same vein: Locke is given the gift of health by the Island. He is immeasurably grateful and absolutely devoted to accomplishing whatever deeds he thinks the Island asks of him. Locke's been knocked around quite a bit, so a bit of kindness goes a long way with him. But HOW FAR will he go to repay the debt? As an adult he will be much more conflicted over his choices. In the case of Aaron, will he put the "good of the child" ahead of the "good of the Island"???

Just a general shout out. Does anyone know of someone that has all of the ABC diary? Even from last year. We are looking to put together a section on the Long Lost List for this and wanted to be sure we had gotten all the information before setting it up.
