The fact that the construction of this episode, particularly the flash back scenes, is excellent and to the point. Along with "Walkabout", these are the two best-constructed episodes so far in the series in that the flashbacks do not get in the way of the current story.

The backstory scenes deliver the needed information precisely and we can get right back to the present day plot that moves along nicely.

No coincidence in that both were written by Fury , and not to take anything away from an excellent group of writers, David, you have it down.

While "Whatever The Case May Be" is the chief offender of the above, "Special" might be right there on top as an example of how well contructed an hour drama can be.

Not only did we enjoy seeing our pal the Polar Bear again, the Walt/Michael/Brian info is character definition that the show can use. Oh - and I'm happy to see the comic book on the campfire - very nice touch.

Fury, you've written the three best shows so far.

It would be hard to argue this episode isn't one of LOST's best so far, as it does everything well. A very well rounded episode by all means. Quite the show.

I agree. Plus, Evangline Lily doesn't (yet) have the same acting range as the actors for Michael and Locke have. So, its harder for her to pull off being the main character of an episode. But writing for Lost must be one of the most challenging assignments a person can get in tv writing. So, its no surprise if its uneven and no reflection on the quality of the "lesser" writers. They just have one heck of BIG task to fill.

I imagine that Fury will stumble into this topic eventually and he'll appreciate the nice words.

Hope so.
