Do you read more then you write, do you read as much as you write or do you write more then you read? Personally, i read WAY more than i post hehe:biggrin:

I read waaaaayyyy more than I post. And if you look at my post count that might give you some indication of just how much reading I do here!

i'm a reader myself, but if i can find something funny to say or help someone with a link i'm your man...

I read, but then I get impatient so I post. So I post more than read. But I would have lots more posts if I didn't spend the majority in the games section.

I'm a reader. I enjoying seeing what other people think of the show and getting their opinions its entertaining. I only post once or twice a day at my best.

To me, there's nothing worse than seeing a post that's way too long and over written. I don't even want to bother - I like quick, to the point posts. With that said, I guess I'd rather write than read - but it will be quick and to the point.

I think I post more than I read. Whenever i read something, I usually post! This thread is an example of that!

I think I tend to go through stages. There are times I post equal to what I read (which I think is lately) while at other times I post a whole lot more and at others I just sit back and read.

I read a lot more than I post. Most of the threads have covered everything that I have to say by the time I get to them.

How... strange, I really wonder why that is!

As for the original question: *points at the previous post* My postcount has probably doubled in the past two months, but that has less to do with being able to get to threads earlier and more with that badge...

I'll admit to reading more than I post and I think we can all say that is true. I won't normally post in a beat to death topic and won't read a topic that is 50 pages long. So I guess in a way it all kind of balances out.

I think reading and writing tend to go together but I'm pretty sure most people read more than they write since reading is a more passive activity and writing is more active. It takes a lot more effort to formulate thoughts and convey them properly. I wonder why there is such a difference between reading/writing and listening/speaking. I would say listening is much more passive than speaking but most people speak so much more than they listen. I think I also happen to be more of a listener ... usually.

I’m a reader. I had been lurking for more than a year before writing my first post and my unusual behaviour was heavily influenced by the number of beers I had that night. There are so many good posters here that it’s hard to find a new idea that has not been discussed to death or bring a new idea to the table… Also, writing takes a lot of your time and therefore you get to read less of those amazing threads. I have been writing a lot during the past month and I just realized there’s so many interesting discussions I missed because I was busy posting. Makes me want to go back to lurking mode.

Makes me want to go back to lurking mode. Don't even think about it, cylune. ;)

You're right, though, you do have to pick and choose what you're going to read if you do a lot of posting. Or any, really.

I tend to post in the slower, quieter corners of the board, and just read the busy threads.

Busted! Don’t worry jellyfrog, I’m not moving out of my favourite thread but I think I’ll follow your lead and perhaps stop posting on the busy ones and just enjoy reading them.

I usually post right after the show ends. After that I mostly read. It's take about two months to figure out the ebb and flow of this board, who has good ideas and who's fun to read.

My approach is simple, if I don't have anything intelligent to add then I just shut up and read.

04-15-2006, 05:52 PM
Here on the 'Lage, I read much more than I write, which is mainly because there are so many fans here who have far greater insight in the show than I have.

As for the reading/writing bit; usually the balance tips towards me writing a heck of a lot more than I've the chance to read. I actively contribute to several on-line communities, I write reviews, reports, and the occasional column or short story. If I'd have more time on my hands, I would probably write even more - I like reading, but at present, I take a little more pleasure in writing.

I am a reader here. I think that might change when I get used to this forum. In my German forum I am a writer though I sure first readand then write.

I'm a both. I do a lot of reading on message boards and in real life, just so that I can improve vocabulary, get the basic idea of things, and such. However, I also do a lot of writing, and as a newbie, you will see a lot more of that. Yup.

I...am a writer, I love writing. Unfortunalty nothing has been puplished, but I only enter one thing, and when I look back over it, it wasn't good at all. My English teacher said I have rea lpotential!! :)

but I don't like to read much, lots books bore me, and it is rare I find a book that I like, and when I do I blow through it. Most books I read, though, I didn't finsh.

At first I used to read and never post. Then I started posting slowly, here & there. Took forever to get up to 10 posts. Then I discovered the User CP link and realized the TB was easier to use than I thought. After that, I started posting more.
But I think that I still do more reading than posting, since I don't always have anything to add other than "Hey, I agree!" LOL
I do try to be agreeable...when I can. :D

For me, it depends on the topic and/or forum. As far as the Fuselage is concerned? I'm definitely a reader. Hence me starting out mainly in the Introduction/non-Lost threads. It's a little overwhelming, the size of this place. Plus, anything I could possibly say would probably have already been said (and even that has already been pointed out on this thread by lostgurl lol). Then there's my lack of knowledge pertaining to Lost; I didn't watch most of the second season, and only came back to the fandom in time for the finale. With all the mysteries, the speculations, the new characters, etc., I think it will be awhile before I'm caught up enough on the show to be a serious writer.

I'm more of a reader. I love writing and I think I'm pretty good at it, but I lack creative ideas. If someone gives me a topic to write about, chances are I'll come up with something good, but if I was to write an original story it would probably turn out pretty horribly.

Let's see... on message boards I definitely read more than I write. Actually, I basically just lurk around till I feel like typing. Even then it seems like my brain doesn't exactly connect to the keyboard and my post turns into complete rubbish.

But in the "real world" it's probably about equal. I always have a book with me, but I always have a pen and a small notebook as well. I love writing scripts and short stories just based on dumb things I see during the day. That's basically how I get through work- I make up "backstories" for all the customers that come in and jot down notes on the register tape...

Oh, as far as posting goes? On just this forum or on all forums in general. If it's just this forum then yeah, I read more then I post. If it's all forums. Then I post more then I read.

I'm a writter... I won't say I'm perfect at it, but I prefer writting, not reading. I have imagination and can be sometimes very creative but the so-called "writter's block" - oh, I how I hate that.... :frown:

I'm a reader as i am still kind of new and finding my was about the threads. i think it's a little difficult to post blind ie without knowing the nature of a thread, but i am as yet not a thread starter, that's a whole other kettle of fish.

I'm a horrible reader; completely hyper-critical over prose, plot and details.

Then again, I'm also a pain to watch TV/movies with :P

I do write, and I'm currently in a massive ditch of writer's block.

Thanks y'all for your posts! I agree with missmaj and i quote 'Reader...who would like to post..but most of my thoughts/ideas have been posted already'' hear hear. Also, to do with am76's post about thread starting, i was just like that (thus why i agree with with missmaj) findin threads to hard to start, but then i thought 'oh well' and jumped right into the kettle and joined the fish!

I did mean just on the 'Lage but hey its nice to know theres writers in 'real life' out there too. Im one myself-mostly of fanfictions (slash and no) or just genral ramblings on paper. but none of it will be found on this here internet. thanks again.

Well, I don't usually venture out of the few areas on here that I usually post in, unless I'm bored. I read and post on here about equally. If you're talking away from the internet, I'm totally a read-a-holic. I'm one of those people who could read a good book all day and not get bored. Writing...well, I've tried in the past to write a little story/book thing, but I always end up never finishing it. But I can be a writer if I really try. :D

Mostly I read way more than I write, not my fault I would love to post more, it's just that I can't find the time to actually sit down and write a reply to everything I want to.
It takes more time than just reading the posts. Once the new season starts though, I will definitely try and make time to post more.

I used to write in roleplays....but I read alot more than I write.....

sjb121590
09-24-2006, 10:07 PM
Can I be... both?

I read all the time. I just bought four books from Borders (costing about $30.00), and four books from a Flea Market (costing $2.00). I read one of them already (Mr. Monk Goes to Hawaii), and am planning to read CSI: Snake Eyes next. So yes, I love to read.

Also, I love to write. I write in a few Lost-related role plays (a few on the Lage, one off it), and am trying to write a book. I keep forgetting to, although it does seem to be good so far... I even tried to write a fan fiction, but that idea failed. The only thing I can seem to stay with are my RPs. Maybe because I'm not the only one writing them...
