View Full Version : Why did Sayid go?
We already know that Sayid thinks Henry is lying and most likely an other. He knows that Henry is probably pretty smart, and that he might have been planted there for some reason.
Sayid's a trained soldier, wouldn't his brain work in such a way as to question Henry's motives for drawing a map? Shouldn't he know about traps and ambush tactics? I'm suprised that he at least didn't take further precautions before going out into the monster, polar bear, other-filled jungle with Ana, a woman who he barely knows and probably doesn't trust? And not just going out into the dangerous jungle, but going right where "the enemy" wants them to go?
The only logical explanation I can come up with for the way he's acting is that he's still grieving and/or very much revenge driven. What do you think?
carodeluxe 03-22-2006, 11:02 PM I think he's in love with Ana. Sshhhh, don't tell anyone. :-)
He couldn't go back and confront Gale first...lest he tip of Locke & Jack of their lil balloon hunting party. It was obvious Ana wanted to keep that a secret, since jack was keeping Henry a secret from her.
I'm guessing he took a chance on it because he figured, worse case scenario, if it was an ambush, they would merely do a hostage swap...Sayid, Ana & Charlie for Henry. Plus, he may have just wanted to be there to see he was right about Henry lying for himself.
BrandonHasTheKeys 03-23-2006, 02:18 AM I think an even bigger question is: Why did Charlie go? Is he giving up on Claire and now trying to impress Ana-Lucia? "Are you looking at my bum?" is more than mildly flirtatious.
Tommy 03-23-2006, 02:28 AM He wanted to go because he feels that, even though ana killed shannon, the others are responsible for her death, and once he finds out henry is fibbing.....................well you get the picture.

Yeah, Sayid blames the Others for Shannon's death. If he can prove that Gale is an Other, something will have to be done about it, as he said. In other words, he wants to prove that Henry is an Other so he can beat the everlasting snot out of him in revenge for Shannon. Finding the balloon - or not finding the balloon, to be more accurate - is the first step in Sayid's little vendetta.
lostinbaltimore 03-23-2006, 09:34 AM I thought it was interesting that Ana asked Sayid (and Charlie????). Where's Eko? Wouldn't she have gone to him first? OR was she upset that Eko knew about the captive in the hatch and didn't tell Ana? So many questions.......... I think Sayid's motive is revenge. But I just can't see a Sayid-Ana hook up.

This was spelt out in the episode, when he and Ana were talking he basically said he wanted to kill Henry as revenge and would be sure when they found no balloon.
Slopster53 03-23-2006, 11:17 AM Sayid and Charlie are clearly unified with each other under a banner or taking it to the others because they are evil, that's why charlie went, and probably why Sayid was acting like he was. Not only will they find out the truth, but if it is a trap it could always backfire and present Sayid with the chance to gain info or and *** kicking opportunity on the others. Sayid ain't afraid to die and is obviously confident in his abilites. I also must say that I liek the new bad-*** Charlie as opposed to the jake whinny Charlie.
Aversion 03-23-2006, 11:21 AM Yeah, out of all the survivors Charlie and Sayid have nothing to lose.

I agree that it seems more like Sayid to question Henry's motives for sending them into the jungle.

I find the Charlie and Sayid relationship very interesting. They are SO different. But they're both pariahs now.

Damn, I'm loving Sayid and Charlie (and Ana) as the island desperados at the moment. It's good to see them back in the action - especially working together.
Robinhood56 03-23-2006, 08:12 PM Charlie and Sayid have sort of bonded over the Others. Sayid reminded Charlie about what they did to him and Claire. He got Charlie on his "side" now and he may well have gone with Ana to get her on his side too.
He is intent on proving Henry is an Other because he can take out his pain and anger on the man. No need to search for or risk danger to find another one. Revenge is his focus and the sooner they can prove there is no balloon the sooner he can "take care of" Henry.
You would think he would take greater precautions but then noone on the island seems to think this way. I think it was interesting that Henry brought that up. They don't ask questions or talk to each other much.
Just what many here have been saying for some time.
