All these Virginians...too funny!!

I went to Mary Washington, Fredericksburg, then on to grad school at U of R. The husband went to VCU for both his undergrad and graduate degrees.

VCU is a great school, but it is not a traditional campus. It is more like attending NYCU.

Eldest son wants to go to MIT (hello, poorhouse), youngest son wants to be a surfer. If the older boy gets into MIT, son #2 may just get his wish....

I went up there alll the time on the weekends to party:) I lived in a small town south of Harrisonburg, and would go up there with my friends to break the lameness of our small town:)

hahahaha... same at Longwood... except we don't have nearly that many students.. so.. we had like ONE parking spot!

Imagine this... little all girls college... then... it grows... tons more students start going, excpet that the school is built between two streets that make a V!!!! Get me?? all the land on the outside of the V are all houses! the inside... is built up as much as it can be!! They build more buidings in TIGHT spaces to allow more students to go there!! Then.. they realize no one has a place to park! They make a HUGE underground parking garage... still.. not enough parking spaces! They have EXPANDED as much as possible.. and there isn't any land left!!

I'm going back to school in the Fall to work on a previously-begun English degree at a state school here in Boston. After that, I plan to do graduate work -- just not sure at which school, yet. (I'll let ya know!)

I actually work at Harvard University, which is where I'd love to go for my Master's. But it's so expensive -- $3600 for ONE class! So, we'll see. Maybe if I can get a scholarship...

Well I am only in grade nine, so I have a long time to decide where to go. But I know this may seem crazy since I live in Canada.. but I have always LOVED Switzerland, even though I've never been there, and I've always aspired to spend some time there when I am older. It never really occured to me that I should go to university/college there until a couple weeks ago. I researched it and asked my parents and they said I could go if thats what I really wanted. But I think they just said that because they think I will never really end up going so far away for years. But I am determined. I don't really like it around here and I can't wait to graduate and go to Switzerland :D ..but there's still the issue about money. It's quite expensive for university fees , living expenses, etc. But I will save up :)

Thats cool, you could always consider going as an exchange student in high school (a few weeks ago I meet someone who was here as an exchange student from Norway) or going to a Canadian college and then studying a semester abroad. I know several universities offer special scholorships and academic programs for students studying abroad from a school, some even already have prearranged deals in place with certain U.S. and Canadian schools (i.e. so many of there students come to school here an so many of our students go to school there and everybody pays what they would normally pay for tuition).

Yeah, I was thinking about something like that. But in my school, we have certain exchanges set up for Quebec, and other places, but not in Switzerland. I am not sure exactly how they would react if I asked if they could set up an exchange to Switzerland. And plus, my parents would never let me go there in high school. They think it is too young. They will let me go to university there as long as I am 18 (not 17, which is how old I will be when I graduate). Another thing about exchanges- I would have to live in someone else's house and share it with a family. I think that that would be awkward for me. I would never want to like.. eat all their food and use up their gas to drive me places, you know? I would just hate to take away from a family. And I am also a very independant person and I would prefer living alone.

I'm currently transferring from a community college to a university, and so far, I've received acceptance letters from UCI (University of California, Irvine) and UCSD (University of California San Diego). I was supposed to find out from UCLA 3 days ago, but they have put me on the "pending" list! DAMN THEM! I can't wait this long- although the "pending" list for my major is a "good" sign according to many people, I jsut can't go through the torment either. I'm probably going to find out from Berkeley this Monday too. I'm crapping myself.

I grew up in Switzerland. You're right about living expenses.... CH (shorthand for Switz.) is very expensive to live in, but if you have a job they pay well. I don't know how it works for non-residents, but university is (mostly) free over there; I'm pretty sure you could get a good deal as a foreign student, though.

I have had an unorthodox college career.

Highschool GED - after 10th grade. I was sick of highschool. Had taken the LSATs and gotten a 1400 (perfect on verbal), did not see the point of sticking around highschool for a few more years for only a handful of AP courses.

Then, to college:
Simon's Rock College of Bard - one year, at 16.
University College Dublin (Ireland) - various courses btw 16 and going back to college in the States. Mostly Irish history/literature/archaeology.
AA - SUNY (State U. of New York), 2001. (Humanities/English.)
BA - Mount Holyoke College, 2003 (English - Early Modern concentration/Minor in film.)
MA - Valparaiso University, 2005 (Early Modern English.)
JD - Valparaiso University, 2008 (Hopefully!)

1L (first year law) finals are throughout this week. Constitutional law on Tuesday; property on Friday. (Where are the suicided smilies? I jest.)

I jest.)

How did you like Mount Holyoke? I think that's where Sylvia Plath and Ted Hughes worked and studied for a summer.

'Lagers are very smart educated people. I was wondering where you went to college or where will you go to college?

I'm going to go to Earlham College in Richmond, Indiana. (Hence the name EarlhamGirl) It is a quaker liberal arts school with 1,200 students. I'm getting very excited about going in the fall! :)

I studied History at the University of Huddersfield (northern England)

I have had an unorthodox college career.

Highschool GED - after 10th grade. I was sick of highschool. Had taken the LSATs and gotten a 1400 (perfect on verbal), did not see the point of sticking around highschool for a few more years for only a handful of AP courses.

Then, to college:
Simon's Rock College of Bard - one year, at 16.
University College Dublin (Ireland) - various courses btw 16 and going back to college in the States. Mostly Irish history/literature/archaeology.
AA - SUNY (State U. of New York), 2001. (Humanities/English.)

That is definitely a unique and interesting college career! :D

Hope College (Here, we'd like to give you money, then take it away and give it to a freshman just because they're dutch and you aren't. Ya' ain't Dutch, ya ain't much, I guess.)
Central Michigan University, home of very little parking for commuters and very large used book fees.

like Digitalash, I did the community college route in CA, 4 years total, working full-time & going to night classes...

Transfered to UC Berkeley, got my B.A. in History (with a concentration on ancient history, Roman empire & rise of Christianity)

Then got accepted to Harvard Divinity School, where I currently am, for my Masters... officially it is a "master's of theological studies" but I've focused mostly on ethics, specifically pertaining to violence & war among the world's major religions. I'll finish in the fall (january 07 to be exact) and then.... who knows... I'll have to decide that over the summer!

I went to the College of Charleston in Charleston, SC for a BA in Corporate Communication with a minor in Japanese, Internodal Transportation, and Business Admin. I just got my by MBA at Keller Graduate School of Management. I want to go to FSU in FL and get a Masters in Asian Studies with a focus on Chinese. We'll see what happens. I'd also like to go to Law School, but I have to boost my LSAT up since I only got a 147.

If I had to go into the many reasons why BU is a terrible university, this post would be 4,815,162,342 words long. But seriously, the main reasons are

1) no real campus
2) bureaucracy makes it extremely difficult to get anything accomplished, ie: transferring classes, dropping classes, etc.
3) it's outrageously expensive and they are none to chary with loans

I just recieved some of my S.A.T II scores today; guess I won't be needing that Harvard application :P Unless I do magically on my next two, which would have to be history, since those seem to be the only ones I can score well on. I'll probably take English Literature and World History. Not Spanish, since that one I effectively bombed.

Can't wait for my AP test results, since I need them to finish the rest of my applications. Mixed emotions on recieving them, though.

I currently am part-time enrolled in community college in California, and might transfer to Berkeley or UCLA and go there for 2 years, or shuck my American education and hop on a plane (my UCAS application is more finished than any other one...Canada's site-specific isn't up yet either.)

I received my first BA in English from the University of Texas at Austin.
I finished up my second major, a BBA in Management Info Systems, from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, TX (execution capital of the US ).

I'm currently studying for the LSAT and hope to score well enough to get into one of the colleges of my choosing for the 2007-2008 school year. I'm not completely certain on where I will apply yet, but one of the big factors in choosing a school is that I want to go to Law School in the state where I wouldn't mind potentially spending the rest of my life. I'd like to get the heck out of Dodge (aka Texas).

I feel so unaccomplished. I'm 17, and I'm a few units (summer school and English) short of my AA. So that means I have 0 degrees as of now.

I'm working on my college apps right now, though. As my mother said, "You have one chance to make them want you," since some of the schools might not do interviews...

I've planned to college visits!! Vancouver, BC in September, and San Francisco in November. One to see the campus and Snow Patrol at a club, and another to see a USC football game and two campuses. I don't think I'll get to the UK until April, when I know if I've gotten in to Cambridge or any of the Univerities of London.

No need to worry about not having a degree. As of a month ago, I also didn't have a degree! ;) The key is to start early on the college apps and don't apply to too many schools. If you don't follow these two rules, you'll definitely get stressed! Good luck with the apps! Remember the hardest part is getting started!
