View Full Version : Has Hurley's prophecy come true yet?
RichardTheHatch 04-01-2006, 04:23 PM Remember, at the end of last season, Hurley warns about a bad thing happening if they blew the hatch. Has it happened yet? Or is it more like a slow chain-of-events type of bad?
Obviously, it's brought some good, like a food supply, some answers, more questions, weapons, and Mama Cass.
Some bad, like weapons, power struggles, deceit, torture, secrecy, paranoia...
But I wouldn't rule any of the bad as being what Hurley meant. I'd liken it to the Garden of Eden, that blowing the hatch was like eating the apple, but it wasn't exactly paradise in the first place. Nobody plays golf anymore, though.
Steph_Bacon 04-01-2006, 04:28 PM Well, nothing really bad has happened yet...unless you count Walt being taken by the others, but I am pretty sure that has nothing to do with them blowing the hatch, and Shannon being killed, again I am pretty sure that would have happened anyway...but don't forget we still have a few episodes left this season, and a 2 hour season finale...the something bad happening may be our cliff-hanger...:D

How long do you think it'll take before the sequence isn't entered, and the 108 clock hits the fan? I thought it would happen a few episodes ago, but they had that tricky 5 more seconds thing.
I think they have started to stretch the boundaries of the suspense aspect of it. Hasn't it almost run down like 3 or 4 times?

I think that it has run down 2 times...the first time they entered the numbers just as it hit 0 and the second time the clock did the strange flippy thing with the symbols...
I agree that it isn't really suspenseful anymore, I was kind of hoping that it would hit 0 during Lockdown when Locke couldn't get to it...I really hope that isn't the cliff-hanger for the season finale...I think that would tick me off a bit because I would assume that someone will enter the numbers before anything happens...

I hate talking about stuff like this on this site because I think they read posts and try to write the opposite of what we all expect, but I think it would make for a good cliffhanger to have the clock run down, and then some new "door" (literally or figuratively) opens up, although all that means is in the space of an entire season, they have travelled 50 yards forward. But I think instead it'll be the return of Michael and/or Walt, with the promise of revelations about the Others camp. But it'll be something else I bet, because you need to top last season's cliffhanger/payoff. Maybe you'll get a Lostie taken by the Others, and get a glimpse into how the Others operate. I think in further seasons, you'll have a scene like Neo finding the Architect in the Matrix, with Alvar Hanso, or something.
But they are just delaying the inevitable.
jellybean1 04-01-2006, 06:19 PM Maybe nothing bad will happen due to the hatch being opened. Things may happen, but we may not be able to prove it was from the opening of the hatch. Hurley may have just been over reacting. I'm not expecting anything to come of it, other wise I would be disappointed.
Obviously someone is trying to tell the survivors that the bunker is no good. Hurley said so, Walt said so...
"Don't open it Mr Locke" + "Don't push the button, the button is bad"
Now Hurley knows that the numbers are bad because of his experiences with them, but Walt on the other hand has no knowledge of anything of the sort.
Maybe it's all part of the chain of events to keep them away from the hatch? DHARMA rigs a lottery, (we don't know how far this corporation goes up in the world), and tells Walt what to say...either something bad will happen for everybody or the survivors might find something they aren't supposed to (a map that can only be seen in UV light maybe?).

Don't forget, Sayid also warned them not to blow the hatch. Three very different people with three very different perspectives.
ARZT BLEW UP. That was the first bad thing that happened because of the hatch.
Locke has gone from Mighty Hunter/Shaman to button-pushing, schedule-making, possessive cubicle rat. Sawyer has pulled a con and swiped the new guns. (Nobody seems to care, but last season there was a whole episode's PLOT in which it was alleged it was so important to keep Sawyer away from the gun-filled Haliburton case that it required digging up a corpse.) Hurley was once again tempted by and gave in to his addiction (just as Charlie was tempted by his addiction once he found the Heroin Marys). Jack is getting even more pissy and secretive now that he has new secrets to keep. Any number of people have gone all "dark side" and are fighting with each other.

I gotta say... I think that Hurley's "prophecy" was just fear.
A lot of good has come from The Hatch also... food, washing machine, guns to protect themselves and a "cage" for their prisoner who they'll probably successfully trade to get Michael and Walt back... plus they're going to eventually investigate the "?" in the drawing in the episode of the same name so it's helping them and giving them far more answers.
I think that Walt didn't want Locke to open it because he knew that Locke owuld press the button, and pressing the button is bad.

They may be getting plenty of material goods from station 3, but not much good has come out of it mentality wise. A whole bunch of questions have come up in their head, people have gone missing...
Michael because of the computer telling him too
...and of course power struggles between Locke and Jack. Anyone involved with the station is inevitably more upset/angry/depressed than they were before they found it.
Except for Sawyer, probably :)

It could be argued that Michael would have no chance of finding Walt Without the Hatch.
And the only people that re more upset/angry are Jack and Locke and that would happen whether there was a Hatch or not. Jack declared that he had a "Locke problem" well before it was ever opened.
LOST Granny 04-02-2006, 06:56 AM There are so many possible reasons for bad stuff to happen...one thing I think is curious is that Hurley's bad luck doesn't seem to have followed him to the island. Those around him seem pretty safe (except for the frog!).
Next episode should be cool.
It is difficult to projectt on whether getting into the hatch will be overall good or bad, but it certainly set a bunch of interesting things in motion.
briar910 04-02-2006, 07:26 AM I would said that the hatch has brought more bad than good. More questions than answers. More secrets being kept.
But it all makes good tv for us. And I guess all this bad stuff has to happen in order for the story to continue.

Who's to say the clock didn't hit 0 ,mabey that was what caused the neon light and possibly another door linking the hatches to open.........just a thought
Richardstone 04-02-2006, 08:36 AM Bad things seems to happen around Hurley, but not to him, I would'nt want him in the hatch for long...
Margalit 04-02-2006, 01:54 PM I was REALLY intrigued by the numbers--the close up of those numbers on the side of the hatch was one of greatest Lost moment ever!-and I wish they'd become more a part of things again. I'm hoping they'll resurface during Hurleys episode this week!
