OK, let's say you have a son, he's 10 years old, he's become friends with a knife throwing boar hunter, he starts to teach your son how to throw a knife properly, wouldn't you get angry?

I think with his previous experiences, he didn't want Walt 'taken' away from him again. And in the heat of the moment he was just desperate to get out of there cuz again it relates back to "for the good of Walt" and so he wanted to build a raft, and in doing so, he could be with Walt while making it. But i believe the whole raft idea will dry out in a few epi's.

I would definitely have some words to say to Locke as well, but still, I too have thought, more than once that Michael does seem to be a very angry person. It could have do do with what happened with Walt when he was a baby, and the fact that they are stuck on an island, but he still needs to work on that.

He seemed much more calm and kinder before that B**** of a woman took his son away from him. That's what I think did it.

I thought it was reasonable to get that angry with someone who is teaching your kid to throw knives... what was strange to me was the ho-hum reaction to the raft idea. *Even if they didn't think they could take it out on the open sea and get rescued, you'd think they'd realize it would be handy for exploring the rest of the island and for fishing. *I didn't get why it was the dumbest idea in the world. *

But getting angry with Locke is reasonable enough.* He's got his son back at last and now the kid prefers this weird guy.

Kato is right.

I would get just as mad if my son was learning how to throw knives.

you also have to remember that michael is new at being a dad.. let alone new at being WALT's dad. They hadrly know eachother. but at the same time walt has always meant so much to michael.. (all those letters..etc)... he's not going to be happy at the thought of locke giving his boy weapons to play with. and his reaction? understandable given the circumstances

Good point, bansky. I think a lot of parents would think the same way, especially since Michael was probably not too thrilled with another man establishing a relationship with his son before he had a chance to find his way to doing that himself.

These are extreme circumstances on the show. There's extra stress from going through the crash and being stranded on an island. Not to mention that the survivors have only known each other for a few weeks.

I think any parent monitors their child's companions very carefully these days. And I would be very concerned if someone were showing my child how to use a weapon.

You hit the nail on the head. Michael is jealous of locke, because locke has formed a stronger bond with walt, then michael has with walt. And Michael's ability to get close to walt, is hindered by the fact that he must 'protect' him, and thus treat him like a 'child'... Michael is the one that has to say 'don't do this, don't go near him, don't play with that, etc...' Walt is feeling humiliated by it.. whereas locke gets to play the 'coolguy' role, whom walt now looks up to and admires.

although it is quite ironic that when the polar bear attacks walt, it is the weapon that is given to walt by michael... when he was initially so reluctant to let walt near a weapon.. suddenly his life depends on knowing how to use one.

is it not odd that whenever the dog dissapears, someone or something else turns up? ie: vincent goes missing------> polar bear appears (twice i think this happens)... and then claire also. hmm, just a random thought.

Whoa people this isn't a suburb here. They are stranded on a desert island if it were my child I would be teaching him myself.

And that's why Michael is a better father then you.

Whoa, hey now, that was a little harsh dontcha think?

Anyway I think Micheal is basically afraid of Walt being 'taken away' from him again. Not in a physical sense but emotionally. IMO the whole scene with Walt and the bear may have been to prove to Micheal (and to Walt) that knowing about knives and how to properly use them could be an asset to Walt. Besides an asset to anyone else on the island.
