Yeah it could be, but considering the problems that the tailies have dealt with maybe they (like Bernard) can't believe in miracles.

Well, stress can sometimes make you say stupid things, especially if your worried about the person you love* (that is if she is still dying [do we know why Rose and Bernard were in Austrailia and on the plane? I can't remember])

*Plus, I'd like to think that they love each other.
