Is it just me or does Jack now have some Walt-like characteristics?

In The Whole Truth (I believe it was that episode), Jack beats Sawyer in poker.
I get the fact that Jack learned how to play while he was in Phuket but even so, Sawyer is supposed to be a "professional" con man.
What are the odds?

Walt beat the odds over and over again when playing Backgammon with Hurley.
If I remember correctly, Hurleymentioned he played in tournaments as a kid while Walt just picked it up from Locke.

In tonight's episode:
Kate, misses shooting the rope to free them. She should obviously be the better shot as she stated but it's Jack who manages to hit the rope and free them. It reminded me of Walt throwing the knife into the tree on target.

Anyone else notice this?

It makes me wonder if there's some sort of reversal of odds on the island.

maybe Jack is unconsciencley developing his powers like walt , just slower because he is older . Didn't "Zeek" tell Jack that " no one is going to hurt you , Jack ! " at "the line". We also know from tonights episode that the Island has energy to change people in some way.

It's early in the series but my money's on "Sawyer's a professional con man" as an explanation of why Jack won at poker. I'm probably wrong though...lol...as usual.
