Is the show based loosely on the book Lost Horizon by James Hilton. There are alot of similarities between the two. I actually saw the movie verison in the early 1970's and last night when Rose admitted she did not want to leave, it made me think of Lost Horizon.

Other similarities: Both have plane crash survivors, the Buddist Monks in Lost Horizon, the Dharma initiative in Lost. A main charater in the book was Henry Barnard, a brash american and Bernard on the show, a brash american.
