Don't be too hard on him as you don't know the reasons why he's had to pull out.

At the end of the day he is no longer commited to Lost and as a result if other work or commitments crop up you can understand why he may have to pull out of events like these.

It's a shame for those that are going (little too far for me, unfortunately), but I'm sure it's down to work committments rather than not caring for his fans.

TBH I'm really suprised that they would even be still asking him to do it considering the epi that Boone got killed off in was shown in Nov/Dec last year and we all know that Ian hasn't been involved in Lost since then.

While I am not connected in any way to this convention, I have been a part of organising more than a couple of conventions over the past 10 years or so.

Unless things in the UK are done dramatically differently to everywhere else, guests appearing at conventions have it written into their contracts that their appearance is confirmed barring any work committments. More than one guests has pulled out of a convention that I have been involved with because of this. It is nothing to do with dedication to fans or lack thereof. I think that most fans would want to see him working so that there is something new for you guys to see him in :)

"Pulse" is schduled to have some minor re-shoots over the next two weeks, so I assume that must be the reason.. it's a real shame though, i'm in two minds whether to still go or not now :/

i hope he comes over to London with Maggie Grace & Jorge in July..

I know he has other work commitments etc. but this is the SECOND time he has done this to fans like me who was packed and ready to take the long drive down there.

He should surely care to tell his fans more than "Appearing at another Showmasters Eventlater in the year."

Shouldn't he guys?
They haven't even replaced him with another lostie like last time!

True, but they still have time too. Although with them probably wrapping up filming for the season soon they might not be available to attend.

However Mira Furlon (Rousseau) is still scheduled to appear. I know it's not the same but at least Lost will be represented.

I can kind of see how annoying it must be for anyone who was specifically going to see him, but the website does make it clear that some of them might have to pull out at the last minute. It's unavoidable.

I agree, I'm just soooooooooooooooooooooo upset!

At least I bothered to check it before, as unfortunately last time I found out on the train to Manchester and was in tears! :crybaby: ( I know what a loser!)

Lets hope someone good comes in instead, eh?

Lots of Love:kiss:

I can't actually express how upset I was (and still am) about him cancelling. It was something I was so looking forward to especially as I couldn't make the Manchester one. I kinda felt like it was meant to be but obviously not!

If you read on the Collectormania forum it does say that the reason for the cancellation was the need for him to reshoots which I suppose is something he just can't get out of. I'm not going to blame Ian as I'm sure it's not his fault and is just very unfortunate.

I just hope he does do another con later in the year (LFCC would be awesome) to make up for it.

I think we should all get to see him for free as a consellation haha!

Darkbear - I'm not sure the fact that he's not in Lost anymore should have anything to do with it. Lots of guests at conventions haven't been in their show for ages or in some cases the show doesn't even air anymore so I wouldn't think it makes any difference whether they were a major character or not.

That's a very good point. But I think what Darkbear was saying was that as he is no longer a part of Lost, he isn't obligated to do any promotional things including conventions. So if he does pull out of these types of things due to other commitments, than his fans should understand.

Yeah, I see what you mean there. Altho, he will always be associated with Lost so I just hope the fact he's cancelled twice doesn't end up reflecting badly on the show at cons....."ooohh Lost has unreliable guests" etc etc. I'm sure it won't.

It won't, as people like Jorge Garcia are very reliable at stuff like this. As he even stepped in when Ian cancelled last time at Manchester! I went to see him instead and thought he seemed to be one of those "nice" actors.

I hope that doesn't happen, but to be honest with you it shouldn't. It does state clearly on all the convention websites that confirmed guests may have to pull out if any other commitments arise and most people who attend conventions understand that.

I think you seem to miss the point about people at conventions. Ian Somerhalder was asked and not his fictional character. Its like saying William Shatner isnt obligated to do Star Trek conventions since he is no longer in the show and was also killed off.

Ian was asked and signed a contract, but due to work, he can no longer make it. He looses his fee for appearing. Its that simple and has nothing to do with the show he is most known for.

I didn't say it was.

All I said was that if he or anyone else for that matter has to pull out due to other work commitments, then their fans should understand.

But there is an extremely large difference between Captain Kirk, who was the main characture of TV show that started in the 70s and has a fan base on millions and Boone who is a characture of a TV show where he was a small part of large cast of a show that is only just comming to end of it's second series. You can't expect Mulder and Scully style dedication from a guy whose contract lasted less than a year and ended nearly a year ago!

Ian was asked and signed a contract, but due to work, he can no longer make it. He looses his fee for appearing. Its that simple and has nothing to do with the show he is most known for.

Absolutely, but it was Kudz who pointed out that by having good reliable current cast members it wouldn't reflect to badly on the show. We know that it shouldn't, but it does. There are to many people out there who can't seperate fantasy from reality.

maybe he will come to the london one instead, as it has Maggie Grace and Jorge Garcia why not as well Ian Somerhalder? and some others cast as i think they would have done season 2

boones_the_boss
05-01-2006, 01:19 PM
Hopefully he will, as there's only 15 guests so far, and they normally have 30 at these sort of things. Maybe even some of the english Lost actors might be there as I'm sure they'll have finished filming Season2 by then. Oooh, imagine seeing Naveen or Dom there!

Ellijah Wood's there too, NICE!
