Here's what I've got started on music - I know that several songs have played at the ends of episodes that need to be added. Please refresh my memory and be sure to list the episode. TY

SONGS OF LOST

DriveShaft - Charlie's band. Locke tells Charlie he recognized him from the band in The Moth. A DriveShaft song was featured in opening scenes of Alias 4:2. Driveshaft is not a real band, it was created for the show. Still, fans created an official fansite: http://www.driveshaftband.com/

Catch a Falling Star - Claire asks the people who are going to adopt her baby if they will sing this song for the baby. Her father used to sing it to her. (RBA)

La Mer / Beyond the Sea - Shannon eventually recognizes words written on Rousseau's map as lyrics from the song Beyond the Sea, which she heard at the end of the French version of Finding Nemo while living in France with a former boyfriend. (WTCMB) These words lead to Sayid and Shannon decoding clues on the map which lead them to piece the three maps together like a puzzle creating a triangle in the middle of which might just be the Black Rock. (Special).

The finding Nemo version of Beyond the Sea was sung by Bobbie Williams. It is based on the 1960 version performed by Bobby Darren and written by Jack Lawrence. The original 1946 La Mer was written by Charles Trenet. It was something of a patriotic anthem in post-WWII France. History of the song here:
http://www.bobbydarin.com/OceanCrossing.html

It is likely that La Mer (the French version) is the song playing in Rousseau's music box, but this has not yet been confirmed.

La mer
Qu'on voit danser le long des golfes clairs
A des reflets d'argent
La mer
Des reflets changeants
Sous la pluie

The sea
which one sees dancing along the clear gulfs
to sparkles of silver. [Note: "reflets" also means "reflections"]
The sea
Of changing sparkles ["reflections"]
Under the rain.

La mer
Au ciel d'été confond
Ses blancs moutons
Avec les anges si purs
La mer bergère d'azur
Infinie

The sea
Confuses the summer sky's white sheep [meaning clouds]
With angels so pure.
The sea,
Shepherdess of blue infinity.

Voyez
Près des étangs
Ces grands roseaux mouillés
Voyez
Ces oiseaux blancs
Et ces maisons rouillées

Look!
Next to the ponds
Those tall wet reeds.
Look!
Those white birds
And those rusty houses [cabins of boats?]

La mer
Les a bercés
Le long des golfes clairs
Et d'une chanson d'amour
La mer
A bercé mon coeur pour la vie

The Sea
Has rocked them [like a baby]
Along the clear gulfs.
The Sea
Has rocked my heart for life.

(thanks to Andrea at the fuselage for the translation)

- Willie Nelson's "Are you sure" (this is where you want to be)... (episode)

Terry O'Quinn plays guitar. In reponse to a (1/15/04) question from Never Lost at the fuselage he said:
Hi Crystal, I've been playing since I was a teen so I guess about 30 - 35 years................should be better but play O.K. No particular song is my favorite.............probably forgotten more than I remember. Naveen Andrews (Sayid) plays beautifully. He and I sometimes play toghther at the beach..................harmonize............Sawyer too. We do a great rendition of "I Shall Be Released" by Bob Dylan, if I do say so. It's a pleasure to have these guys to work and play with.
Cheers, Terry

Okay, I might be totally off my rocker but I have to ask. Was Somewhere Over the Rainbow a song they had at the end of an episode?

I cou;dn't make it out. I wouldn't recognize the original La Mer anyway, I don't think I've ever heard it.

This would be a good question for the writer of that episode.

Oh - and it's spelled "deputy."

I wonder if we can find a copy of La Mer somewhere on the internet to listen to. I don't know how to search for those kind of music things.

I've been looking to compile my own LOST mix CD and on my journey on the internet, i stumbled across what i think is the original version of "La Mer"
it was originally written by Albert Lasry (Chorus and Orchestra) and Charles Trenet (Vocals). I got the MP3 off a p2p network, and it sounds great - it was probably rereleased/remastered not too long ago.

Anyway, i might consider making a bittorrent file so you all might be able to check it out, but i don't think the board owners would be very pleased with that due to copyright issues and whatnot.

Actually, the version featured at the end of CM was from The Blind Boys Of Alabama (and no Ben Harper in it), very hard to find it on the internet by the way ! I have it if some are interested !

Don't forget the song at the end of In Translation, it was the last song we heard from Hurley's cd player before it died. I can't remember what it's called though. :(

I figured out how to rip the soundbites myself. Here's Danielle's music box (http://www.geocities.com/mcmillerxxx/Lost/musicbox.MP3). Here's Shannon's version of La Mer (http://www.geocities.com/mcmillerxxx/Lost/la_mer.mp3). I don't think it's the same song (as you were wondering way back in January).

You're welcome. :)

An interesting side-note is that Shannon sings the same verse of La Mer twice.

La mer qu'on voit danser
le long des golfes clairs
A des reflets d'argent, la mer
Des reflets changeants sous la pluie
