It just struck me that none of the main characters we've been introduced to with any depth at this point appear to have children or spouses back home.

Michael's son is with him.
Rose's husband was with her on the plane.
If Shannon was married, she is no longer. (Boone said she was married.
Jin and Sun are there together, sans dog.

It seems that if any of the Lostaways we've spent time with had significant others or children back home we'd have been made aware of it.

We've seen reference only to broken relationships with parents.

So far, they all seem to be very alone and unattached in their lives back home.

I did notice that noone mentions anyone back home either. I sort of attrubuted that to the writers not wanting to give away any back story until it was time but it is strange.

They are not totally unattached.

Kate's dad is dead but what about her mother?
Shannon & Boone have no dad but mom is alive.
Locke has his, ahem, phone-a-friend.
Jack has his mom.
Charlie has his brother.

They may not be close but they are not totally alone.

Most if not all must have jobs. Certainly Jack did. Why don't they talk about friends and such? I guess that's what happens when we are not looking. :D

right i guess by unattached and alone i'm referring specifically to significant others/ spouses or kids.

it would kill me to be stranded without my baby. my teens and my husband, they'd get by and we would all miss each other terribly - but i'd worry so much about my baby.

i do recall the creators said they originally planned to do some episodes on the families back home but dropped the idea to stay focussed on the island. that's fine and probably good - the storylines are scattered enough as it is.

still, i bet all of us are working on the assumption that all our main characters are child-free (except michael and claire) and single (except jin ans sun).
