i suspect he is, if it is he isnt working with the others. i mean, he could've shot ana lucia and libby so they obviously coulndn't tell anyone it was him who shot them, if you know what i mean. he then shot himself, only so he was injured so he could tell everyone else that henry killed the girls and shot him. that way everyone hates henry more, the others are hated more and inspires them even more to attack them.
a clever scheme from michael to get his kid back.
possibly?

Yes and no. If Michael’s only goal was to free Not-Henry, he would not have needed to shoot Ana or Libby. However his goal appears to have something to do with either getting the guns or getting the Lostaways to attack the tent city. To meet that goal he must maintain their trust and to keep their trust he has to shift the blame for his actions to an outside party. Shifting the blame also furthers his cause by assigning blame to the Others who he claims inhabit tent city.
Framing Not-Henry is a by product of Michael's actions but not one I believe he originally planned for. Just a happy accident that furthers his nefarious goals.

I had interpreted it more as he was creating a plausible story on how henry had escaped..and was allowing him to go. I also kind of think Michael is going to lead them into the same kind of trap that henry alluded to in the earlier episode...

I think anniehall is correct...
By doing things the way he did, Henry can stroll on out w/out a problem and Michael can basically say, "Hey, I was sleeping... and heard gunshots. When I woke up they were dead, and I saw Henry and then he shot me and ran."
Seems the most plausible theory to what is going on with Michael.
CAN'T WAIT 'til Wednesday!!! :)

I am on the fence whether Micheal actually planned to turn the Losties further against the "Others" or was he just making the best case for Fenry escaping. My reasoning is this could he not instill the Losties to his cause by doing what he did while also killing Fenry by saying he heard the shots got in a struggle with Fenry over the gun it went off ( explaining his point blank wound) and then managed to get the gun from Fenry and shot him in self defence?
I hope they say something about how curious the wound is. Especiallt when compared the wounds of the two girls.
Any good surgeon in any major city quickly becomes an expert in gunshot wounds and how they where caused.

Yeh, that's exactly what I was thinking, too (as anniehall and rvarzea said).
It could possibly have been for some other purpose, though. Maybe Micheal wants to be the hero... the guy that stopped Henry from escaping after 'he' shot Ana and Libby, though I doubt that is it.
It definitely wouldn't further his cause to get his boy back with less Losties there to be on his side...
