View Full Version : Everybody Hates Hugo
Michaud 05-09-2006, 07:03 PM Everybody Hates Hugo has only been shown on E4 in the UK to date, so if you're waiting for next week's Channel 4 showing and wish to remain unspoiled, do not read this thread.
These UK epi threads are there for those who want to chat about epis with UK fans, because we seem to be so far behind everyone. Many of the equivalent dedicated epiosode threads on the Lage contain spoilers now. If you are from outisde the UK, or are/have been 'spoiled', please be aware that this is the latest episode here, feel free to post, and respect those here that haven't seen beyond Everybody Hates Hugo. Thank you. M
So..... a tough decision for Hurley..... ??
marblehead_johnson 05-10-2006, 03:47 AM First one to post? I guess we were due a slow emotional one after the rollercoaster ride of the first 3 - it felt good to see a 'back to normal' storyline involving the guys outside the hatch!
and very interesting that they confirmed the existence of another hatch on the island - although it appeared to have been long abandoned (apart from the Tailies of course)
Finn Buzzing 05-10-2006, 04:10 AM Yeah it was good having a back to normal episode, wouldn't call it slow though. Hurley episodes tend to be quite funny too which was good and Claire got her peanut butter aswell....lol. The scene with Sun was quite sad though. I love episodes of LOST like this one where there are funny, sad and revealing moments all in episode.
Also... during Hurleys dream you can see Walt as a "missing persons" on the milk carton.
It was good to finally learn more about Ana Lucia, Mr Eko, Libby and Bernard and that something has happened to approx 18 of the other tailies. Oh and there being another hatch.
I wonder what this Dharma station was originally for, it looks deserted but we didnt see all of it.
Not sure if this is a spoiler or not so I'll spoiler text just incase... regarding the station...This station is called The Arrow (the symbol of this station is an arrow within the Dharma octagon) I wasn't sure if you see the symbol in this episode or not, I think you do - can anyone confirm this?
On a theory note.....
There are six constellations of Apollo (and we know there are more hatches)
1. Cygnus = swan
2. Sagitta = arrow
3. Corvus = crow
4. Crater = goblet
5. Ophiuchus = serpent handler
6. Orion = the hunter
Save The Humans 05-10-2006, 04:34 AM Hello from across the lake, Brit LOST fans!
The closing scenes of "EHH" were among the most touching I've seen on the show. I especially liked how Rose tucked away an Apollo Bar for Bernard, who she knew wasn't dead, at the same time Bernard introduced himself to Mike, James, and Jin and asked about Rose. I was just :bawling:!!
And, yes, the peanut butter scene was WAY sweet!
I'm so glad you folks are finally getting to see Season 2! I think it's :unhappy: that you can't see it at the same time we Yanks are!

Yeah - I believe its confirmed that all the 6 hatches are on the island - and I agree - some real tear jerking moments on there with the chocolate bar etc!
Although I enjoyed all the reveals in the first three, I always thought the beauty of Lost is the way it teases so much. I've just set my Dad off watching this series, and I was struggling to describe what a revelation finding the Tailies and Desmond was, We've been watching it for a whole series thinking there was just them and the Frenchie on the island - he thinks these things are par for the course!
I've just got back from holiday in the Canaries, and they're a bit ahead of us - had to tear myself away from the TV several times. I caught a bit of this episode, and a bit of the next one, so I'm looking forward to being (more or less) 'unspoiled' fairly soon!

:wavey: STH. Thanks for dropping by the UK section
Brilliant scene between Mike and Bernard.
Watching this episode again (I'm spoiled), what I enjoyed so much was seeing Locke back in the jungle again. His scenes with Charlie are always fun for me to watch.
Not sure whether the Arrow symbol is in EHH, but I don't think that's spoiling anyone.
Finn Buzzing 05-10-2006, 08:21 AM Ok..one of the most shocking moments in this episode... Jack and Kate actually laughing together at the end. Not exactly known for their cheery dispositions!

I didn't realise until Hurley or his fellow quitee from the the fast food place that his boss was the same guy that was taking the mick out of Locke in Walkabout. I wonder if Hurley knew that Randy was working for that company. If I was him and I found out I would have taken great pleasure in going up to Randy and saying I own you now dude!!!

Hurley didn't even know he owned a box company, or a trainer company until his accountant told him - so I don't think he kept a close eye on his investments :D Even though I know it's supposed to be the same guy, I just couldn't see the resemblance last night.

I thik those two scenes (Locke's and the Hurley one with the accountant) are a coule of years apart at least. Hurley seemed to be made-up to be very young in EHH.

I disagree. Locke's is just before he goes to Australia and I get the impression that Hurley left for Australia shortly after his conversation with the accountant (he goes to see Leonard who leads him to Sam Toomey's wife after his accountant asks how Hurley picked his numbers).
I agree that Hurley is younger in EHH as it is before he wins the money and has had a chance for the curse to strike.

Yes, sorry fak. I had a brain-melt there and was confusing myself. The two scenes I meant as being a couple of years apart are the Locke scene (with his boss) and the Hurley scenes from last night. I totally agree with you in respect of the later Hurley scene being around the same time as the Locke scene.
Apologies

Darn it, and I'd just been checking the timeline to beat you around the head with :D
Michaud 05-10-2006, 09:45 AM ^:24:
Which timeline are you using? I've got one saved to my bookmarks at home, but it's not based on the Lage. Is there a Lage-based one now?

I was going to use Sledgeweb's but the site isn't loading properly for me, so was going to resort to the transcript of Numbers when Hurley starts telling Charlie about winning the lottery "Just over a year ago" (at least I assume that is what he is going to say before he gets shot at).
mygoodeye 05-12-2006, 10:40 AM i love this eppy, expecially the opening and closing scenes. it was kinda like a mini-teen film like Dazed and Confused:rolleyes:
lockeknife 05-13-2006, 09:52 AM Something I thought was cool in this episode was Hurley's last flashback, because I thought it was another character link,( I love these types of connections!).
When Hurley was being interviewed for TV at the end, at night, in the car park, I think that it was the same footage, due to clothing and night-time, that is on the television in the background in "...In Translation". Am I right?
ungreth 05-13-2006, 08:16 PM i love this eppy, expecially the opening and closing scenes. it was kinda like a mini-teen film like Dazed and Confused I think that might be because the actor who played Hurley's friend in this episode is DJ Qualls who played the token "geek" in various teen flicks, including "The New Guy" and "Road Trip".
Finn Buzzing 05-14-2006, 04:26 AM token geek...lol. I thought he looked familiar.
I can't wait to see more of the tail section survivors.

yeah i think it was intentional, ive never seen either of those films tho

I hadn't noticed, but will check that out lockeknife :)
natfrog5 05-14-2006, 08:18 PM The Radio Times accused this epi of being a "ho-hum dud" of an epi with no "sparkle" but I think that a comment like that comes from someone who doesnt truly "get" the show. Not every epi can be action packed and this one was a really good one at touching on issues with Hurley and the whole cliquey-secrets issue that Charlie had. If someone only watches for the action then I think they're not a true fan!
I loved the scene with Claire, Charlie and the peanut butter. *sigh* The scenes at the end of episodes like that where it's just music and no dialogue and it's all really touching stuff always makes me teary! I'm such a softie!
xxxxx
Finn Buzzing 05-15-2006, 06:30 AM I think this episode was great and plenty of stuff new information is learnt about the tailies, Bernard and another 'station'.

RT has no idea seriously, its written for middle aged middle to upper class wankers who love period dramas
Michaud 05-16-2006, 04:53 PM ^Spot on mygoodeye... it's the the BBC1 of the tv guide world.
natfrog5 05-16-2006, 07:08 PM RT has no idea seriously, its written for middle aged middle to upper class Pookies who love period dramas
haha exactly!! Anywayz, they can't have thought it was that bad really as they said all that stuff in the "Today's Choices" section lol.

evassu esaelp 05-16-2006, 08:26 PM Think this episode wasnt packed with action but i agree that it doesnt need to be packed with action to be good, we still learned about the character and what happened in Hurley's past, personally i thought that although its wasnt the best episode ever, it wasnt boring, or the worst.
Finn Buzzing 05-17-2006, 04:47 AM In regards to The Radio Times comments:
I think LOST is a program which requires alot from its viewers, RT readers as NatFrog5 said like period dramas and programs they dont have to think about afterwards, programs that wrap up nicely at the end each week.
LOST requires alot of thought and patience(!) but is worth it as you get more from this show than any other. I think these RT readers will get brain ache and cause they don't wanna appear thick, they dismiss it.
I may be sounding like a complete LOST obsessive (which dont get me wrong, I am...lol) but I think LOST is the most visionary, original and excellently made tv show ever made. I dont really like tv much, all I watch is LOST (and Green Wing) cause its different to evrything else out there, its fresh and daring and I love it.
mygoodeye 05-17-2006, 06:05 AM yeah i checked out RT (my mum always buys it), i went back a couple of weeks and found that 5 reasons why Michelle Rodriguez is a badass article too *rolls eyes* but i cant say owt about that here:biggrin:
having said that, i do like Phil Jupitus' music collumn, and John Peels' before that. and i wouldnt ever buy a TV guide myself when teletext is free...(unless Lost was plastered all over the front, however!)
watched the epi on Ch4 last night, the scene at the garage, i feel so bad for Hurley, it was so brilliantly acted, you could tell exactly what his friend's thoughts were
Porochaz 05-17-2006, 06:35 AM Best...Episode...EVER! Loved it!!! (apart from Deus Ex Machina of course!) Loved the acting, I almost got emotional when Bernard came on. L Scott Calwell's acting was absolutely SUPERB! I loved the bit at the end with the chocolate bar. I mean how many dramas can you watch where they have a happy ending all round (apart from Sun) and still make you want to watch more.
Meh! RT are hypocrites they had an article a few weeks back saying they loved the show.
Anyway Jorge Garcia...Great, L Scott Caldwell...Brilliant, Matthew Fox...well...I suppose he was good in this epi, everyone else (ie.Claire, Kate, Locke, Sawyer even Ana Lucia) were all good too!
luv me_ luv lost 05-18-2006, 02:44 PM That was the most emotional episode on season 2. The last 15 mins was the best! Sooooo emotional without anywords. I like the part when Hurley is giving out food he was so kind and caring. I loved the part when Charlie gave Claire the peanut butter, they looked like a really nice together. The closing of the episode was great. Bernard asking the rafters if they knew a Rose and him thanking them. One of my favourite episodes
evassu esaelp 05-19-2006, 07:26 AM awww i liked it when Charlie and Claire were playing with the peanut butter and oh my god Jack was having a laugh for once ... whats going to happen next? Sawyer caring for everyone? perhaps Locke will grow a beard?
mygoodeye 05-19-2006, 07:47 AM oh my god Jack was having a laugh for once ...?
hahah, savour it
Finn Buzzing 05-19-2006, 11:40 AM I think Jack must have mistaken some happy pills for M&Ms or something, it was the most shocking thing so far this season.
luv me_ luv lost 05-19-2006, 12:43 PM oh my god Jack was having a laugh for once ...
it was sooo shocking, he is usually to serious! Maybe your right Finn Buzzing he might have mistaken Dharma Happy Pills for Dharma M&Ms! lol:biggrin:
evassu esaelp 05-20-2006, 06:18 PM Jack just sort of bugged me before this epi with his control freekyness and winding Locke up just for the sake of it, i was hoping it might make him calm down a bit but judging by your reactions he stays the same.
Finn Buzzing 05-21-2006, 10:17 AM I find it a bit odd that Jack is looked too as a voice of reason by so many of the other survivors yet he can be very stubborn, emotional and stroppy. I do like Jack and think he is a facinating character, you need him to play against Locke.
4815162342uk 05-22-2006, 12:54 PM I LOVED THE EPISODE!!!!!:)
Hurley's mother makes me laugh although the whole Jesus on the phone thing confused me....
Do you not think it is significant that Sayid said he hadn't seen that amount of concrete since Chrenobyl? maybe it implies that the hatch is protecting people from a similar incident?? something to think about maybe:rolleyes:
I loved the scene around the fire at the end, i like those montages at the end... and the bit at the end with Bernard totally had me in tears (don't judge me)
amazing episode....
p.s.anyone else totally dig the shower scene??
LivingIsEasyWithEyesClosed 05-22-2006, 03:49 PM Sorry if this has been asked before but does anyone know how the food did get down the hatch?
Jaz
Finn Buzzing 05-22-2006, 05:18 PM you find out later in season 2.
Check the episode guide to Lockdown for the answer.

Wouldn't that Chernobyl idea and the hatch protecting people tie in with when Walt yelled at Locke not to open the hatch at the end of Season 1? Obviously we've also still got that Quarantine sign to think about.
p.s. hope this quoting works out, I've not exactly got the hang of it!
evassu esaelp 05-26-2006, 12:07 PM Yeah the shower scene was ok  what? kate is a lovely lady afterall
