The first time i saw Dr. Mittelwerk i immediately thought of someone else....

The man that Cooper stole the 700.000 from.

Comparing his cheekbones and other facial structures, there is a major possibility this is the same man. If you cut away the pony tail and beard...and add a business like haircut set in different lighting, i say you got the same man...

Mittlewerk isn' gonna be spending alls his free time as a simple goon.

I highly doubt that a few minutes at a funeral, and a few minutes in Locke's house, consists of "all of his free time". Not to mention, deception is a major player in this story. There is already speculation that Mittlewerk is not a Dr. and never went to Caltech. Why couldn't they be the same person? How do we know the "thugs" weren't part of Anthony Cooper's set up? I mean maybe Cooper was trying to set Locke up to end up on the island, with a very long con. It would make sense that he might need other people to pull of his con. Just like Sawyer needed someone else to pull off the jewelry con at the gas station. That wouldn't have worked unless the woman (can't remember her name) didn't come up and buy a piece.

I am not saying that the two men are the same, but I am not willing to say they aren't either.

The nose is different, and the thug's face seems more angular over all. Plus the Doc has some fierce low brow ridges on his forehead (no offense to the actors portraying either).

I dunno, there is some resemblance, but the nose / browbone areas look quite different.
Of course, their heads are at different angles.

Mittlework is head of major corporation. He's probably a billionair, he's not gonna go off and do goon jobs.

Or he's the same goon posing as such. Who knows. The new information on the website gives us a clue he isn't who he seems anyway. But...although the flashback was a lot of time ago, the shots taken from the 'goon' and the one from Mittelwerk are quite close to each other. And there's no maquillage in hell that could produce those two effects out of one man. Or there's some CGI or computer manipulation.

Hahaaa! Brilliant!
They look similar but I don't think they will be the same person. That was a nothing street thug, a very peripheral character.

John-Locke could easily be right. Stranger things have happened.....
Michael is a engineer/artist who killed two people, Charlie is a 'bloody rock god' who roughed up a pregnant woman!!!! Plus we have the guy from Dukes of Hazzard running around in a fake beard kidnapping kids! Everything isn't as it seems to say the least.:undecide:

Looks a whole closer than the teacher (from Rwanda I think) folks were saying was Cindy. They can do lots with makeup and prosthetics these days. I knew I've seen 'Mittlework' somewhere before when I first saw him and besides his photo is the only one that's not stock photography from Getty Images. It stands out big time from the others. :)

After examining the episode in question and the photograph I would say that there is a very large possibility that this is the same man, if not then its a twin or something. It would tie Locke into this whole thing in a big way for one, and secondly I don't know why people have such a hard time accepting that perhaps the Hanso Foundation might be, you know, actually like not telling the whole truth?! Anyway remember the problems people here had accepting Lockes boss as Hurleys boss? ITS THE SAME GUY!!!
