Why is this side of the island cold and windy?

Is it somewhere else?

Why are we to believe that it's cold? The people seemed to be dressed for hot weather and the lady that was talking to Michael was sweating like a pig.

They appear to be on more of an exposed cliff than a beach, which could be subject to stronger winds and hence be colder, too.

There is also a weather station on the island so they could be controlling the weather. I've seen scenes with torrential downpours while across the island, sun!

Also, Michael was told to walk North- could the Northern coast of the island be more exposed to wind than say a more southerly position? Anyone know about prevailing winds in the Southern hemisphere???

It definitely looked more arid--not as much jungle vegetation, more of a prairie or steppe grassland.
