Anyone else waiting for a LOTR hobbit reference?
I would like to have one, but probably won't happen.

AudBall 02-01-2005, 03:10 PM Merry (or pippin...either way, it was one of 'em) left behind the elven brooch on his cloak to let the others know where they were headed. Charlie left behind his LATE fingertapes. Subtle, yet there :) welshmuse 02-01-2005, 08:49 PM Merry (or pippin...either way, it was one of 'em) left behind the elven brooch on his cloak to let the others know where they were headed. Charlie left behind his LATE fingertapes. Subtle, yet there :) Yes, I did notice that! First thing I thought was "Not idly do the leaves of Lorien fall." Plus, during "the Moth", when Charlie notices the moth in the cave, I half-expected the giant eagles to show up and save the day. That would be kinda funny, but there would probably be copyright stuff....although the SO to LOST on ALIAS was awesome!! They mentioned Star Trek!! I don't know....to my knowledge it would only be a copyright violation if they actually quoted something. They could definately mention LOTR. How funny would it be if Hurley looked at Charlie and said, "You look like one of those little dudes from Lord of the Rings." :) jim 02-07-2005, 03:10 PM How funny would it be if Hurley looked at Charlie and said, "You look like one of those little dudes from Lord of the Rings." That would be great! Hurley: Hey, don't I know you? Charlie: (Slyly)Maybe... Hurley: Yeah, you're that hobbit! Charlie: Hobbit!? No man! Driveshaft, You know, Driveshaft. "You all, everybody", I played bass. Hurley: Driveshaft? Charlie: Yeah man, Driveshaft. Hurley: Sorry Dude, never heard of 'em. Shattered 02-09-2005, 01:09 AM I would seriously love a LotR reference, but I'm not sure how likely we are to get one. It would seem like a cliché. I never even noticed the elven broach=fingertape thing. I think that's all we're going to get. I would love something really subtle, something only seriously obsessed fans would get. elfdream 02-09-2005, 04:57 PM When Charlie was trying to make his way out of the cave..and his hand came up in the air out of the ground it made me think of that one scene in Fellowship when they were buried by the snow..and a hand came up out of the snow in exactly the same way. Ash 02-10-2005, 01:07 PM I thought the fact that he was a drug addict in itself was a reference . the Ring did appear to have that effect on its bearers. hears a stretch his hooded sweatshirt does anyone else have one on the show? looks like a hooded cloak during headshots especialy at the end of the moth episode in front of the fire. The White Lady 02-10-2005, 07:37 PM We got another LOTR reference last night. (Either that or I just see LOTR in anything, which is entirely possible :P ). Charlie told Jack that Ethan "deserved to die." And here I was half expecting Locke to come wandering over and paraphrase Gandalf. Charlie: He deserved to die. Locke: Many who die deserve life, and many who live deserve death, especially when that person who lives has vital information. Maybe? Shattered 02-10-2005, 08:37 PM Ask and you shall recieve. Up thread I mentioned wanting a really subtle LotR reference, and last night I got it: In Charlie's flashback, look at the jukebox right above 'You All Everybody.' Notice who the singer is? Annie Lennox! I laughed so hard when I saw that. Either it was a major coincidence, or someone put a lot of thought into a little treat for the fans. terran 02-10-2005, 09:32 PM It's the little things that make stuff like that work. A blatant reference would just be tacky, and take people out of the story. But sly ones like that are great. Like how they had Charlie's brother's name be Liam, so the Oasis connection would be made without having to spell it out. If you hit people over the head with a joke, it's no longer funny. The White Lady 02-10-2005, 10:28 PM Ask and you shall recieve. I really think that was a coincedence. Annie Lennox is a really well known singer. She did one song for LOTR. They probably just took a jukebox and inserted "You All Everybody" into a random slow, which happened to be under Annie Lennox's song. A LOTR reference would probably be quote, character, or plot oriented. Shattered 02-11-2005, 12:00 AM Aw, White Lady, kill my joy... Kidding. I know you're most likely right, but it's still fun to pretend. The White Lady 02-11-2005, 04:40 PM Sorry, Shattered. :-\ But, you know. . . it's true. :-X pippin18 02-18-2005, 04:13 PM Plus, during "the Moth", when Charlie notices the moth in the cave, I half-expected the giant eagles to show up and save the day. I thought of that too. It was very cool to see it. |
