Anyone else waiting for a LOTR hobbit reference?
I would like to have one, but probably won't happen.

Plus, during "the Moth", when Charlie notices the moth in the cave, I half-expected the giant eagles to show up and save the day.

They mentioned Star Trek!! I don't know....to my knowledge it would only be a copyright violation if they actually quoted something. They could definately mention LOTR. How funny would it be if Hurley looked at Charlie and said, "You look like one of those little dudes from Lord of the Rings." :)

I would seriously love a LotR reference, but I'm not sure how likely we are to get one. It would seem like a cliché. I never even noticed the elven broach=fingertape thing. I think that's all we're going to get. I would love something really subtle, something only seriously obsessed fans would get.

When Charlie was trying to make his way out of the cave..and his hand came up in the air out of the ground it made me think of that one scene in Fellowship when they were buried by the snow..and a hand came up out of the snow in exactly the same way.

I thought the fact that he was a drug addict in itself was a reference . the Ring did appear to have that effect on its bearers.

hears a stretch his hooded sweatshirt does anyone else have one on the show? looks like a hooded cloak during headshots especialy at the end of the moth episode in front of the fire.

We got another LOTR reference last night. (Either that or I just see LOTR in anything, which is entirely possible :P ). Charlie told Jack that Ethan "deserved to die." And here I was half expecting Locke to come wandering over and paraphrase Gandalf.

Charlie: He deserved to die.
Locke: Many who die deserve life, and many who live deserve death, especially when that person who lives has vital information.

Notice who the singer is? Annie Lennox! I laughed so hard when I saw that. Either it was a major coincidence, or someone put a lot of thought into a little treat for the fans.

It's the little things that make stuff like that work. A blatant reference would just be tacky, and take people out of the story. But sly ones like that are great. Like how they had Charlie's brother's name be Liam, so the Oasis connection would be made without having to spell it out.

I really think that was a coincedence. Annie Lennox is a really well known singer. She did one song for LOTR. They probably just took a jukebox and inserted "You All Everybody" into a random slow, which happened to be under Annie Lennox's song. A LOTR reference would probably be quote, character, or plot oriented.
