View Full Version : 2nd oldest living Buffy/Angel/Serenity fan
Hekawi 11-15-2004, 02:39 PM There's a fan in Rohnert Park who's older than I am. I think he's in his 70's.
Hello all Lostkateers/Fusiliers/Losers (thanks Fury, that's my fave) - I'm pleased to meet you, and may I congratulate you on your discernment and inquiring minds and refusal to settle for crap on TV.
I was a from-day-one Buffy fan, my husband and family have been very concerned about me ever since. They keep saying "It's for teenagers!" and think I need therapy. I guess it's one of those things where you either get it (metaphor/allegory/character development/story arc/"a vast array of cultural references"/witty dialogue/high production values/imagination/incredible acting/whopping good writing/cool clothes/James Marsters) or you don't. It's been frustrating, but I never give up hoping that someday they'll watch Willow wave to Oz in Doppelgangland, or watch the steam rise as Spike crucifies his new soul, or Andrew's Masterpiece Theatre spoof, or Buffy whacking Parker, or changing bullets to doves, or...ad infinitum...* and get hooked.* I think I can get my sons to watch with me once they're old enough (currently 8 & 5).
Anyway, I found this board via Whedonesque, and was drawn to it due to all the excellent Buffy/Angel alum, and am pretty well addicted to the show, and I think this board is a nice complement to the show.
My name is from an old television show, as in "We're the....."

Hey there fellow Whedonesquer! Who are you over there? Just wanted to say welcome and ITA with everything you said about BtVS. Just to let you know, my 8 year old, almost 9, is my Buffy Buddy... he loves it! I just won't let him watch some of the stuff in the later seasons yet.
Enjoy this board, its great. By the way, I just saw Hurley on the sign in board...so he's here now.
Take Care!
Hekawi 11-15-2004, 03:33 PM Hi Willowy! I have been lurking at W'esque for about, I think, three years, finally decided to sign up, and they stopped accepting newbies. (I think they were in mourning when Angel got canceled.) Then they recently opened it again, but just on weekends, and just this weekend I joined - as Revello - I doubt I will post anything, I have my hands full with the two boys. My 8 yr old is high-functioning autistic, so he needs one more year or two to catch on. The 5 yr old actually likes snippets here and there, but I'll wait til he's at least 7. Thanks for the good news though - I look forward to having 'Buffy Buddies'!!
The very last Buffy was on my birthday. 8-( Now y'all know my birthday)
8-)
Willowy 11-15-2004, 03:54 PM As in Revello drive no doubt? ;D
That's great! Well since you have small kids you can't be that old! Some of us more *ahem* mature fans like to think age is no factor when it comes to the Whedonverse! Heh!
Well that was an awful present, wasn't it? I went to the BuffyBash in Los Angeles for the last episode. Herc put it on. It was fantastic. Well worth the drive from Arizona.
Hekawi 11-15-2004, 04:20 PM Willowy: You know the house - nice Calif Craftsman! I'm in OC - one of these days I'm going to go to Torrance and have my pic taken in front of the house, I hope I hope. I ought to have gone to the LA bash, but kids were smaller, and I was a wreck - I cried all night long, and it had nothing to do with my 50th birthday, except for the Classical Greek Pathos of it being my b'day, really, I just thought there was at least one more year of stories there....
as for the more *cough, cough* "mature" fans..... LOL...they are doomed to wander the halls without a pass....late for every single class...wondering if they're invisible to the naked eye...wondering if graduation has passed them by...LOL (speaking strictly for myself, of course)
But seriously, like you said, it proves age is not a factor in the Whedonverse, and that some of us can escape being sentenced to "maturity".*
cheers
H
Hekawi 11-17-2004, 03:00 AM There was talk on the linear board about our day jobs...
since I'm prone to poetry, here's what I came up with, and managed to tie it into the show, in order to be sort of on topic, hope you all like it:
On the mainland my profession can strike a note of dread
They who have the most to gain, have the most to lose
But stranded on an island, with days to count instead
The very idea of tax returns does nothing but amuse.
Yet in moonlight guise of poet, since my day skills are in vain
Because it’s all I have to give, my gift is this refrain:
They who have lost everything, have everything to gain.
(Yes, I can use both sides of my brain half as well as a whole one...I think!)
