Hah. Copernicus and Machiavelli are a little obvious as names, Bacon would get Hurley excited.

Of course, Locke is covered twice ("Don't tell me what I, Kant, do.") Now that I think about it, haven't Jack and Eko also said variations of that?

Sorry, it's late!

Okay, place your bets here folks, what philospher name will be used in season 3!
I'm putting my money on Hobbes and Leibniz!

Really though, anyone know if there are similarities/clashes between the three? It's been awhile since my intro to philosophy course that I took as an elective. LOL, I recall that I liked Hume, but really don't remember why.

Thomas Hobbes is the most obvious foil to Rousseau, this being man in a state of nature. I've expected him for some time. Maybe that's why so many peple are named Ton.

I like that it was Desmond "David Hume" meaning they put in his full name.

I wonder if there is a connection with Locke and Hume (the philosophers who basically pushed empiricism forward) play a part in the show. Like how fate (soft determinism for the philosophers) relates the events of the island.

Funny how Rousseau is the odd person out as both a philosopher and cast member. She does strike me as a person who like the philosopher would say that life is ugly, brutish, and short.

EDIT: oh, and I am hoping for someone really "out there" to be named next. A continental thinker like Husserl, Merleau-Ponty, or Heidegger.

If "Zeke's" last name is Hobbes, I won't be surprised. At all.

I love the fact Desmond is now, not just Desmond, but Desmond Hume and Penelope Widmore is his girlfriend. Hope this means he will be a regular on next season.

Beardy aka. Mr. Friendly aka. Zeke aka. Tom aka. Thomas Hobbes...

Wouldnt that be fun.

"Zeke" was also the codename used by US Airmen on the Japanese A6M Zero fighter during WWII. Hawaii saw its share of those in December 1941. Will this sometime make it to show ? its pretty relevant... Pacific ocean is full of downed aircraft... maybe one crashed on Lost island.

Thats the cool part about history... it so easily makes it into fiction.

A quick google of the three last names popped up this book on Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0195003098/002-6651115-4933607?v=glance&n=283155)

I just posted it for the heck of it. I have not read it, but I may go look it up at the local bookstore.

PS - what a great episode.
