Ya know I find it pretty interesting how Dharma is supplying there guinea pigs with 100% get you stinking drunk alcohol! There logo was all over those bottles that Desmond was drinking out of!

What in the heck is the reasoning behind that???

It's merchandising, bay-bee!
Perhaps Hanso or the DeGroots are egomaniacs who want their logo on everything!

I just want to know where they make all that junk, and if it really IS better than the name brand stuff.

I have to admit I wondered the same thing. Especially considering that Dharma is working toward a better life for all of mankind. Doesn't seem as though alcohol, that looked like Everclear, would be a "healthly" thing for all of mankind to consume. Or that developing or supporting addictions would be a part either.

I know that there are claims for women to drink red wine here and there or something to that effect. But that didn't look like red wine to me and Desi is definately not lookin like a lady. lol

No one drinks more than I do. Hell, I'm drinking right now.

Aside from it being a neat little plot device, I think the Dharma initiative is clearly taking every effort to make the island's occupants as comfortable as possible. The pantry in the hatch contained tons of materials that were neither nutritious nor necessary-- i.e., peanut butter, ranch dressing, chocolate bars, etc. This would hint that Dharma is not particularly concerned with the health of the island's occupants. There seems to be more of a focus on mental health and comfort levels.

So where did he get the alcohol from? He was drunk on the boat, so he had to have gotten it after he left the hatch since he only took his backpack with vaccine and a teddy bear(bunny). Or did I miss something?

dharmahol! LOL!!

I wonder if, since they appear to manufacture everything, they "enrich" stuff with very subtle amounts of mind-altering chemicals.

What better way to keep test subjects compliant and docile than "spiking" everything they ingest.

But I wonder...

Was there a new stock of dharmahol on the food pallets? And if so, who absconded with it? Unless that's a seperate shipment.

It would explain why they took all the kids -- the Lostie's side is "over 21" and the Others' side of the island is "dry."

It was a contrivance of the episode so they could make Desmond a drunk.

The finale was loaded with brand new things (contrived) that if we had seen earlier, well, the finale would not have worked the way they wanted it to work.

The crushed filing cabinet was one. That had been sitting in the dome all along?

The bio suits and oxygen canisters. Never seen 'em before.

The large electrical panel with all the loose wires so a perosn can create a false lockdown.

The fact that Desmond had experienced a total system failure but failed to mention that to them before he ran out.

The alchohol, I think, would have been enjoyed by folks on the beach if it had been included in the pallett drop, but there was no mention of it, and that's too bad.

I thought Hurley or Libby said something about getting some wine for there picnic? So maybe there was some booze in the food drop. Maybe Des starting stocking the boat after he killed Kelvin, he must have finished fixing it, it looked in pretty good condition. Maybe he had some plan in place to leave the island.

They like to drink.

Libby was going to get blankets and wine from Bernard and Rose. Also if you guys look closely in the episode where desmond leaves Jack and Locke when Jack is chasing him and Desmond trips spilling his bag. Its contents is atleast one bottle of Dharma Booze. Also there have been multiple references to Black and White scotch (lockes father has some in his motel room and that is what Sawyer drinks for his "Irish wake" for libby / anna)

He kind of said something about it (it was very vague though). In one of the first episodes of the second season Locke said that they crashed 44 (I think) days ago and Desmond interupted him and said "Did you say 44 days ago?" like it was important. I've been wondering what he meant by that until now.

Why so much alcohol? Not to show Des as a drunk...

1) Morale.. Just like the records and books and exercise equipment. They have to have somethin else to do besides pushing the button every 108 min, or else they would go insane even quicker.
2)How much "PRODUCTIVE" thinking have you personally ever accomplished while drunk? IE. keep Kelvin, Desmond, and the next guys next guy drunk and they realy cant/WONT be able to process the whole situation too efficiently.

That's my simple take on the booze

Maybe Dharma has it's own ABC branch.

That wasn't a Dharma brand he was drinking on the boat. Looked like some (fake?) Australian brand (J. Darby, I think) with a kangaroo on the label. It was also in one other scene, as I recall, but don't remember which one.

Yup, I think Dharma likes to keep them happy and non-questioning. But that was a lot of alcohol that Desmond had. Maybe Kelvin had been setting some aside for a while, to stock the sailboat before he left? Desmond sure didn't have room for too many bottles in his backkpack.

Perhaps alcohol keeps the test subjects happy and complacent?

If I lived on an island where pretty women were getting shot on a semi-regular basis, I'd drink too.

A-freaking-men! I dont recall seeing dharma labels on all of it so it s quite possible that des had aboard his boat. he seems to be a gregarious aussie whos not afraid to party it up

Perhaps I'm mistaken, but I thought there was mention of it... Libby sent Hurley to Bernard and Rose because she knew they had a bottle of wine from the pallet drop and wanted him to ask if they could have it for the picnic.

^ you're def right. they got it from the makeshift pantry on the beach. wine could be construed as something that would enhance quality of life whereas liquor would be more likely abused, which could lead to destructive behavior
