Hello,

I have a new theory that might explain a lot of the components of Lost but it has some spoilers from the book "Island" by Aldous Huxley. So stop reading if you don't want to be spoiled, but just to get your interest I believe the writers said, "We took 'The Stand' and put it on the island" which could also mean "We took 'The Stand' and put it on the 'Island'"

ok here is the theory, "Island" is a novel about an ideal society that has flourished in the Pacific for 120 years, and has existed there for much longer. The islands name is Pala,(http://www.flurl.com/item/Pala_ferry_u_141308/) and it is advanced in the areas of science and medicine. For example a doctor works at an experimental station. An important note is that the people do not subscribe to any one God, but they have Buddhist thought processes. Anyways Pala has a lot of oil so the outside world wants to take over it and use it as an asset. Taken from the back of the book, "this island of bliss attracts the envy and enmity of the surrounding world. A conspiracy is under way to take over Pala."

There are multiple theories about "The Stand" so I am not going to go into detail but mention that there are similarities to many of the characters of the book to those on Lost.

I believe that the writers took the concept of the "Island" and placed adapted characters and themes from "The Stand" and placed them together. Since "The Stand" has been pretty much discussed I will explain the "Island" thoughts. I believe that the island has a commodity that the outside world desires (electromagnetism, oil, I'm not sure) and the Hanso Foundation saw this and decided to take over the island, similar to the novel. To do this they created the Dharma Initiative (Dharma would go along with the Buddhist tendencies) and they said it was research for the island so the islanders welcomed Hanso. Hanso then turned on them and tried to take the island for himself. So now they are in the middle of a battle between the islanders (the others/hostiles/them) and Hanso (Dharma). This would explain why "Henry Gale" says that they are the good guys and why "Zeke/Tom" said that this is our island, because it really is. This theory would also explain part of the statue because the inhabitants of the island could have created it in their past.

The lostaways are now thrust into the middle of this battle and they have to decide which side they will join (Multi-millionare company vs. Islanders.)

On a side note I believe that Locke became an agent of the islanders which why he was pushed to not input the code, and Eko was originally an agent of the islanders with his church-building, but Dharma swayed him to become a button-pusher. I do not believe however they are aware of their allegiances, they are just controlled by their dreams.
