View Full Version : Lost Coincidence
peaches 02-02-2005, 07:44 PM My friend was telling me today that she was going to go to Australia this summer for a bowling thing. Well she was telling me where she would be flying and where she would land back at....get this...she's flying back home from Sydney and landing in Los Angeles! Is that not weird?! I thought I would share this.
laisla 02-03-2005, 03:18 AM Yeah, my parents flew from LA to Australia about a week ago. They are flying back on the same route in a week or too. It does creep me out a litte.
Don't be creeped out, it's a perfectly ordinary route and no more of a coincidence than someone flying from Chicago to New York or Tokyo to Singapore. :)* But if they're on a flight #815... then it's time to worry.* ;)
Shattered 02-09-2005, 01:16 AM Right now, I'm scared of all planes. A friend of mine is going to France next month and I'm telling her to pack things like sunscreen and knives and fireworks....and to leave all her red clothing at home. Out of curiosity, are there any islands (desert or otherwise) en route from Canada to France?
TRoss 02-09-2005, 02:12 AM Right now, I'm scared of all planes. A friend of mine is going to France next month and I'm telling her . . . to leave all her red clothing at home.
:lol2:
Lost_In_Louisiana 02-09-2005, 04:03 AM . Out of curiosity, are there any islands (desert or otherwise) en route from Canada to France?
:lol2:* Errr, just Newfoundland and maaaybe Ireland but as far as I know, um, they're pretty well inhabited.
;)
car88win 02-09-2005, 05:30 AM ok, the flight number thing would make me reconsider BIG TIME! I'd be like
"Haven't you seen the show LOST !!" Change the flight number or book me on another one cause i ain't gettin on! :lol2:
Lost_In_Louisiana 02-09-2005, 09:03 AM Seriously, I'm not kidding - that plane crash was terrifying. We were so freaked out that none of us want to fly again. Of course I was always a little white knuckled to begin with so that didn't help matters. Wait, I have an idea for a poll.....be back in a sec....
;)
Lost_In_Louisiana 02-09-2005, 09:27 AM Ok, I posted a poll on - Afraid to Fly? :lol2:
I'd like to see if others are similarly affected by that plane crash sequence like I was. A lot of people have commented on how that was the most realistic, scary looking crash they'd ever seen and I would have to agree!
So how bout it y'all? Where do you stand on flying now?

What a coinky-dink. I'm going from Canada to France too next month!! On March Break!!! Thats crazy! Maybe we'll be on the same flight lol. yeah I'm nervous about flying kinda....but I've been on a plane many times before and I've always been safe. And I pray that if we DO land on a deserted Island there will be a rockstar on the plane with me ::)
splifficated 02-09-2005, 05:17 PM It's exactly 29 days till we leave for France! w00t!
charlies_angel 02-09-2005, 05:19 PM YE YE!!! I'm so excited!!! :lol2: :lol2:
lets hope for a Dominic on our Plane.
car88win 02-09-2005, 05:20 PM you couldn't pay me to fly * haven't flown anywhere for 12 years.
I want to feel the ground * not smack it. ;D
splifficated 02-09-2005, 05:22 PM Yeah w00t!
I'm not too worried about flying, considering the last plane I was on was in December.
I really hope we didn't just jinx ourselves.
This thread is reminding me of Firefly...smelling the air, not kssing the dirt.
uk_girl 02-09-2005, 07:23 PM I flew from the UK to Detroit just a few weeks after September 11th. It has to have been the most unnerving flight I was ever on. Mainly because every time anyone stood up to go to the toilet or anything, everybody in the entire cabin, flight crew included, turned round to watch them and held our breath until we knew it was ok. Scary stuff! Even worse was the flight back when I had a group of people asking the flight attendants how many people were in the cockpit, whether the doors were locked etc etc, my son (who was 9yrs then) was all but hysterical, until I calmed him by telling him that they were probably as bloody scared of flying as we were and were just trying to reassure themselves that everything was safe.
Shattered 02-10-2005, 08:48 PM I have flown twice a year, every year since I was born, and I was never a great flyer. But now, Major Paranoia, I'm terrifed to go near the airport even. I'm a really superstisious flyer and will not board a plane without a rosary, even though I'm not Catholic anymore....
The only bad thing I can say about this show is that now I hate, hate, hate, hate planes and polar bears! And if that's all I can fault it with, it must be doing something right. I think it's worth it; an intense fear of planes in exchange for the best show ever put on the air.
Lost_In_Louisiana 02-11-2005, 12:07 AM The only bad thing I can say about this show is that now I hate, hate, hate, hate planes and polar bears!*
Well, the polar bear hatred would be a good thing! At least it would keep you waaaay away from them if you were to ever adventure to the Arctic circle. Other big predators like Lions, Tigers, Sharks, etc. will not naturally attack a human. They might go after a person if they were really really hungry, but mostly they stay away from humans. Even other bear species would rather put distance between themselves and humans. Polar bears, however, are vicious vicious animals and from what I have read are the ONLY predator that will naturally stalk & attack a human - no problem :o Them are some scary beasts.... :-\
free_bird122 02-12-2005, 10:04 AM A fellow Lost fanatic and I are going to Scotland over the summer (hopefully) and we're actually hoping to be on flight 815. Sad, huh? ^_~
TRoss 02-13-2005, 03:25 AM Ok, I posted a poll on - Afraid to Fly?* :lol2:

I have to say my fear was cemented long before Lost:
When I was 13, I flew to Hawaii and thought, 'this is cool!'
When I was 17, I flew to Washington, DC, and thought, 'I didn't know we were so far up.'
When I was 26, I flew to California and thought 'WHAT THE HELL AM I DOING UP HERE?! WHAT IS THAT BOUNCING AROUND . . . IS
THAT TURBULANCE?!!. . . *eyes closed* . . . *white knuckles on armrest* . . . IF WE CRASH THERE'S 0 CHANCE OF SURVIVIAL! '
Ah, how I miss the fearlessness of youth. ;)
Speaking of plane crashes on film, how many of you saw these:
1. The FedEx plane crash in Castaway (with Tom Hanks)
2. The Cessna crash in The Edge (with Anthony Hopkins and Alec Baldwin)
Those pretty much sealed the deal. I don't remember the one from Alive (with Ethan Hawke), how was that one?

Yep, I totally freaked out during the Castaway plane crash - I remember holding my breath trying to figure out if I could hold it long enough to escape. Nope. Drowned.
I don't remember the crash from Alive but I do remember being extremely freaked out by the avalanche that occurred in the middle of the night and killed off most of the remaining survivors! What a movie - still gives me chills......

its not weird! thats the most common route to take. because it's the fastest way to get between australia and america! I always flew from perth to sydney.. then from sydney to LA.. refuel in LA then head up north to vancouver..
the sydney/LA route.. is like... not uncommon...
TRoss 02-13-2005, 03:34 PM Yep, I totally freaked out during the Castaway plane crash - I remember holding my breath trying to figure out if I could hold it long enough to escape.* Nope.* Drowned.
:lol2: Me, too!
And the sound effects! Oh, my god, I would have passed out from fear of those alone! Sounded kinda' like the monster, now that I think about it . . .
Robinhood56 02-13-2005, 08:40 PM A little cold water in faces for a second.
Those that are listing the movies where planes crash, try to remember the hundreds of flights that take off and land every day without a single problem. It is also a prove fact that flying (even post 9/11) is safer than driving.
Having flown many times and being forced to drive in NJ rush hour traffic everyday I can tell you the plane is waaaaaay safer.
One way you can feel better. For those who are unlucky betting on anything, buy the flight insurance. It's what I do since it's cheap and I've never won a long shot in my life. ;D
Oh, I don't like flying either but that's because I don't believe heavier than air flight is possible but since it seems to exist I pretend. ;)
Lost_In_Louisiana 02-13-2005, 11:21 PM Ok, if anyone is interested in responding to a poll about being afraid to fly, please put your answers in: http://www.thefuselage.com/threaded/index.php?topic=6204.0
Thank you! :)

I agree your probability of being in a plane crash is minimal, but the statistic that bothers me is 99.9% probability of DEATH. In a car, in many cases you have some degree of control, whether it be defensive driving, or choosing to drive a Hummer instead of a Ford Focus. In a plane, I have no control. Does that make me a control freak. Probably, and I'm okay with that. *snaps on seatbelt of a 1992 Ford F250* ;)

All in favor say "HEMI" !!!! :lol2:
Yep, I do likes my manly truck/suv/family transportation vehicle - a Dodge Durango with 5.2 liter V8, jungle clearing grill on the front and he-man trailer hitch/towing package on the rear. Ok Ok, I know these monster min-vans are a menace to the smaller cars on the road - but I feel safe and I sure don't worry that my kids are gonna get squished up like an accordion if we do get in a crash. Bring on the steel cage driving machines!!!
:lol2:
TRoss 02-14-2005, 12:14 AM HEMI!!!
Mine's a V8, too. I feel a pang of guilt that it's a gas-guzzling pollution machine, but I'd pay thousands to install an electric engine in that truck before I'd drive a breadbox!
Robinhood56 02-14-2005, 06:53 AM Not to burst any bubbles but according to insurance companies, those lagre SUV's and such are more dangerous.
As to control, it's and illusion! :fear2:
Actually you don't have any control over all those crazy people driving around you so your control is minimal. However, I feel the same way. I can't sleep in a moving vehicle. I think I feel if I fall asleep the driver can't see. :-\

SNORT!!!!!!!!!* *:lol2:* *:lol2:* *:lol2:
LOL!* You made me snort coffee out my nose!*
That was too funny.....
TRoss 02-14-2005, 10:48 PM SNORT!!!!!!!!! :lol2: :lol2: :lol2:
LOL! You made me snort coffee out my nose!

:lol2: God, I'm glad I wasn't drinking anything when I read that!
