View Full Version : The 3 Musketeers?
jbdean 05-30-2006, 07:33 PM On my way to work this morning, it literally hit me: right now we have the three TOP MEN OF FAITH in that bunker. Desmond, Locke and Eko. Somehow ... I don't think that was mere coincidence! What a strong conscious these three men will conjure! Boy ... do I want to see season 4!!
Feedback anyone?
AnneM 05-30-2006, 07:46 PM Can I infer that you're assuming everyone survived the explosion? Personally, I believe that they did.
This might be by design, but it might have been a coincidence, or it might be by design and then come to nothing. With this show lately, one never knows. And since Locke seems to have lost his faith (although it might have returned after the non-button-pushing disaster), there might not be three men of faith there after all. If they are all alive and are all men of faith, what do you think will happen? Do you think they'll be trapped there together and have to rely on their collective faith to help get them out?
I just hope they let Locke go back to being Locke. I liked him a lot better when he had that faith. I also thought it was a little unbelievable that he lost it so easily. I do enjoy watching Locke and Eko together because both actors are so powerful, and adding Desmond to the mis could make for some interesting scenes.
I hope you're right and there's a reason why they are all there together and that this doesn't turn out to be another missed opportunity on the part of the writers. Does it sound like I've lost some of my faith in Lost? Sadly, I think I have.
Save The Humans 05-30-2006, 07:54 PM Just as long as Jack gets to come back from being The Others' prisoner, and he and Desmond get to be good friends!
I suspect that Des might be the arbitrator between the other two Men of Faith, understanding both faith and doubt as he does!

Now, while they may be three men with varying degrees of "faith," I still see them all as the "men" of faith vrs. the men of science. I liked the old new Locke a lot, too but I think the conversation he had with Desmond about Boone really shed a lot of light on just where his head may be now. He has, I think, found the beginning of understanding the difference between destiny and coincidence. He thinks he lost his faith, but I don't think he did. As he told Eko, he had misdirected his faith. He still had it but was channeling it in the wrong direction ... for him. Personally I think the three in there together, having shared that experience, being men of faith will help unite them ... bond them and make them a power not to be reckoned with! I have no clue as to whether or not the writers will run with this idea (if they've thought it up already) but I think it's more than a plausible way to go.
STH, I know how much you want Desmond and Jack to bond but I don't see that happening any time soon (sorry). True, Desmond's link to the island, so far, seems to be Jack. But I have always felt that Desmond's real connection will be with Locke ... and now Eko, too, I think. If any bonding is to happen between Des and Jack, it's going to be aways down the road. If Lost does season 3 anything like season 1 & 2, Jack is going to be with the Others for some time. But I do think that Locke will lead the rescue team to go and get them back. I feel that this may just be a plan to get Locke to them (remember, Henry told Locke he had come for him). And I can't see Eko and Desmond not joining in on that hunt!
And AnneM, don't lose your faith in the show. One thing that makes us lose our faith is when things tend to go in a direction we're not agreeable to. Hold the faith and just go along for the ride. I don't believe this show will ever truly let us down!

;) well Desmond could bond with Locke and Jack, but i know its always going to be Jack in his heart...welcome to the island's second triangle:biggrin:
AnneM 05-31-2006, 08:45 AM Back when they introduced Desmond, I was convinced he was responsible for healing Jack's soon-to-be wife. He was so sure that Jack's surgery would be successful that it seemed as if he knew something. I thought he was going to turn out to be another character with mystical powers (like Walt). Unfortunately, they never pursued that, so I guess I was reading things into the character that weren't there. Is it too much to hope that I was right, and we'll find that out next season?
And don't worry, although I'm a bit disappointed with the show, I haven't given up yet. I will be watching with great anticipation on October 4 or whenever they decide the first episode will air. :)

I do think that those that felt that were reading too much into it. What I think it showed us was that Desmond had faith and he sensed that Jack didn't so he was trying to give him some sense of belief in himself. I think that was why he told Jack to "lift it up." He was telling him that he'd done all he could do. Now he had to "lift it up" to God and have faith that it would work out ... and it did work out. Sarah was healed through the surgery.
They're rerunning the finale tonight! YAY!

Hope reigns eternal--if the story of Desmond & Penny doesn't prove that, what does?
I shall continue to lift it up for Jack and Des. And spoilers say that
Jack/James/Kate's visit will take up the first six eppys next season--kind of like Mike/James/Jin among the Tailies. Except this time, there'll be a cliffhanger at the end of eppy six to leave us on pins and needles till the February return!
So Jack and Desmond may meet again sooner than you think. IMHO, Desmond will fill in as lostaway doctor till Jack's return. Jack will be grateful for this--and for having a fellow medically-trained brutha to share duties with him. A great basis from which to build a friendship--since the attempts in the stadium and the hatch fizzled. Third time's the charm, yeah?
