At this moment (keep in mind I did not WRITE a fic, I just know good fic when I see it.) my favorites are speaker's, ThePartyman's , and Hattori's. Just based on the strength of the story, and the writing itself.

But they were ALL good.

Partyman - You Rawk! That was awesome.

All of you guys did incredibly well! I was planning on posting all along, but then I read them and I was like "Well hell, mine won't be as good in comparison..." But I was bored during lunch, so I thought one up anyway. It was fun. And no matter who "wins" - honestly, these were some of the best mini-fics I've read in a while. You guys are great.

Yeah, that bright white 0 in my column is quite a bit more disheartening than I imagined it would be when I voted for Partyman. But still, I choose not to regret my decision as his was, in truth, my favorite story. Unfortunately, my fragile mental health would likely collapse with another let-down such as this...and, as there is unlikely any internet access at the institution, I might choose to refrain from participating in the future for fear I might be without the Fuselage for any extended period of time. :P

It is interesting that you bring this up. After the first day of voting I realized that there would be people that would feel this way. Maybe not exactly the way that you feel but I expected there to be a pretty good drop off in participants.It is tough putting yourself out there only to see that either no one or very few appreciated what you did. But it isn't that they didn't appreciate what you did, it is that they could only vote for one.

I happened to like your story very much. I loved the Ferris shout out! I thought it was well written and also liked the fact that you took us down a misguided path early on, not really letting us know what it was he was doing.

I kinda felt the same way for a bit. I am almost embarressed that I only have 1 vote. I started to think that maybe I wasn't cut out for these contests. I went back and re-read my story and it even made me more frustrated. I think my story is very well written and is not like any of the others. I would have thought that it would have appealed to more people. I now realize that just because only 1 person voted for my fic doesn't mean that it is not good, just not as appealing as the others. This is something that we see in todays society all the time. Crap pop bands have mass appeal and then there are truly talented bands that people just don't get. Or with TV even more so, look at some of the tv shows that people flock to see. The Paris Hilton thing has 22,000,000 veiwers? and then we have shows that are well written that get cancelled.

Now I am not saying that The Partymans story isn't good because it is and I even said so to him right after he posted it, I am just saying there is no accounting for taste sometimes. The lack of votes isn't a stamp saying that we are not talented, it just means that the story that we wrote wasn't as appealing as others.

I am not going to give up. I am going to stick this thing out for as long as it lasts. There will be other fics to write and maybe I will have a better feel for them than I did this one, then again maybe not. Even though I only have 1 vote, I am sure there are people who enjoyed my fic but just didn't think it was the best. It doesn't have to be the best as long as someone is enjoying it!

I hope that you understand what I am saying and give it another go. This was meant to be a fun thing for everybody and I believe you have something to share! ;D

I don't think the lack of voting in general, or for specific stories has anything to do with the quality of them..

I enjoyed reading all the stories (and MARCEE's was actually one of my favorites, BTW), and I imagine everyone else who read them also did.

I think the problem here is, we have 22 votes in total so far... for 13 different stories, so its unsurprising that the votes haven't levelled out yet - if only the writers and NINE others have bothered to vote!

That's out of (currently) 4947 members of the threaded board... and at least a thousand + regular posters/lurkers on the LB. Bad turnout/

I think its maybe a teething issue, its the first fic challenge, and maybe note enough people know about it.

Maybe the LB posters (admittedly the fic challenge has been entered mainly by LB'ers) don't like reading fanfic?


Like Hattori said, people have read them, and have enjoyed. I found it really hard to choose who to vote for. Also, as far as my being in the lead, once some more people have read the entries, I am so not gonna win!

HH, I totally agree with you - it's hard to choose just one. I was totally set on Nanse's until I read P-Man's... and then again, yours and Speaker's were really great too. And then I was like, but Jorie's was well-written...and this one is unique... and that one was good. Hopefully, if we do this every week, maybe more people will start to notice.

Depending on the challenge and my work schedule, I will likely participate again.

Here's hoping that as these challenges continue, that the word will get out and more people will read them and vote.

As for the totals so far, I was so impressed by all of the writing ability on this board that casting my vote was incredibly difficult. The creativity in this bunch of stories was amazing. Also, reading the different writing styles and voices, was fun. Can't wait for challenge #2.
