ukgirl 06-07-2006, 04:27 AM Well, if this episode was meant to make you feel sorry for or understand Ana-Lucia more, it failed - for me, anyway.
She came across as even more surly and sulky in this episode. I know something terrible had happened to her and I understand that losing a baby must be awful - but most people who have something like this happen to them don't take the law into their own hands.
Plus, she still treats Sawyer, Michael and Jin as criminals, even though she knows who they are, and she doesn't seem capable of talking to anyone; she can only shout and boss them all around.
I cheered when Mr Eko decided to take Sawyer back to the camp and then again when Bernard eventually stood up to her. I really hope she has a less prominent role for a bit now that the 2 groups are together..............
Just my humble opinion, y'all understand!
Finn Buzzing 06-07-2006, 06:08 AM I'm gonna have to disagree and say that I thought Ana's character was humanised with this episode, ok she is a hard-nut but some people are just like that. Whilst taking the law in to your own hands the way she did makes her a murderer, you can understand how and why she did it, she is a person of action, not a person of talk as so many people are.
I really like the character and I think her reaction to having shot Shannon was a very real reaction and perfect for the character. The confrontation between her and Sayid was very sad but brilliant, Ive never been Sayids biggest fan but he got some brownie points for that. She has control issues for sure though.
You have to remember as well that had she not been so hard on the other survivors they wouldn't have lasted upto the 48 days, she did keep them alive. If she hadn't outed and killed Goodwin things would have been very different.
Loved the scenes between Eko and Jack, god Jack annoyed me, how can he speak to people like that. At last another person who won't be bullied by Jack. Mr Eko is fantastic. The reuninion scenes were all very heart warming too.
Next weeks Kate episode looks really good!!!
LOST_4_a_username 06-07-2006, 07:29 AM I just don't know about Ana Lucia...
One moment I feel that she's misunderstood, the next I just don't like her...
I do feel sorry for her that she lost her baby...
But I can understand why she feels nervous around the other survivors of the plane - after the majority of the Tailies were taken away right under their noses by the Others, I can see why she especially doesn't trust anyone...
Great episode though. i can see Locke and Mr Eko getting on well together. They're both men of faith (note Mr Eko and the Bible in the previous episode).
And Sawyer and Kate back together - YAY!!! Though I sense somethings gonna happen between Kate and Jack...(Golf haha)
I loved the ending though, how everyone was reunited; Sun and Jin, Rose and Bernard, Michael and Vincent...

Awwww.....Michael and Vincent, the real love story of LOST. *snigger*
LOST_4_a_username 06-07-2006, 07:56 AM yeah! I was like "awwwwwwww"

When I first saw this story I felt the same, even though the writers seemed sure that we'd all love Ana after this. But she does get some moments that make her more likeable. Now that she's got the chance to relax without the constant threat of attack she'll have a chance to show a nicer side.
luv me_ luv lost 06-13-2006, 01:53 PM OMG!!!! I'm soo glad Sawyer and Kate are together (as in they are not like half across the island) The face when she saw Mr Eko and Jack's face when Kate did the 'whispering in the ear' technique. and the last part when Charlie saw Jin and the Tailies. And everyone hugging. Great ending.

I understood Ana's situation to be this:
Ana's backstory makes her out to be - yes - a streetwise, surly young woman. We are led to believe, at least for half the episode, that perhaps she shot someone in an incident that got out of hand (it's only when her mother says that she had 4 bullets put into her that it's revealed she was the victim), which wouldn't be too shocking seeing as in past episodes she's been made out to be more than a little power-crazed and trigger happy.
She's protected by her mother a lot in the flashbacks (obviously because of what's happened), which maybe makes her more determined to prove herself as an adequate and independent leader to the Tailies. I think (and I'm no psychologist!) that her character is at least some part control freak, even without the fact that she's a cop and therefore a natural authority figure etc etc. She doesn't prove herself (as evidenced by the fact that most of her group go off to find the others) and only ends up getting more and more twitchy and frantic as the world she's built up around herself crumbles. I believe she'd like the survivors to think she has more 'power' (for want of a better word) than she feels she's been given credit for, and she thinks that the island is going to give her a chance to prove herself, but instead it only proves to everyone else that she's pretty unstable.
As for the baby thing - hmmm. Yes, it's an extreme reaction, but someone took control away from Ana, and left her with nothing. In order to regain that control, and set the balance of her little world right again, she goes out for - and gets - vengeance. To be honest, I think I'd be pretty peed off as well, if someone had killed my unborn kid and my relationship had subsequently broken down because of it, so added up with what we know or can surmise about her character, it's a reasonable reaction for her to have.
I personally think she's been ok so far (apart from shooting Shannon who was just starting to get really interesting), and it will be interesting to see how the writers decide to develop her, or if they develop her any more at all. I guess only further watching will tell!!
Though I sense somethings gonna happen between Kate and Jack...(Golf haha)
And so it should!
Jate kiss in What kate did! Yay!
Jate is fate
Anyway I started to feel sorry for Ana until she shot Jason, then I just get annoyed with her all over again!:pissed: I can't believe she survived being shot 4 times at point blank range!
If you haven't seen the second season or most of it I sugest you don't read this, major spoiler! You have been warned!
Especially since its only gonna take 1 to kill her!

I agree, I think the character is very well written and acted, you have to see how she lost everything, even part of herself to see why she is such a control freak, I think she is one of the most 'real' characters on the show. Alot of people hate her bossy and controlling side but she did keep the tailies alive since the crash, Bernard even acknowledges this.
evassu esaelp 06-14-2006, 05:25 PM I have officially altered my perception of her and no longer dislike her i think there are reasons why she did what she did and personally i dont blame her for wanting revenge.

Gosh I totally disagree by shooting Jason it made me hate her even more cos in the end she became just like him a cold blooded muderer! Thats why I liked Sayid in this episode cos he just walked away and didn't take revenge.
I know that her baby got killed but there is no reason on Earth to justify murder! She could've had him put away but no...she's supposed to be a Cop!
Finn Buzzing 06-17-2006, 09:00 AM It strikes me as odd that Ana is scrutinised for killing that guy who tried to kill her and killed her unborn child, but Sawyer isn't really targeted and he did something very similar and got the wrong person!
100%

I think its fair to say that AL wasn't exactly in a sound state of mind! Also... that man is responsible for killing her unborn child, put yourself in her mind, I think in some ways it is justified!

No shes just as bad as him now! She sunk to the same level plus shes killed Shannon!
Finn Buzzing 06-20-2006, 01:57 PM Im not saying she did the right thing but that I can understand why she did it! Shannon getting shot was clearly an accident.
Yes an accident, but all the same I still don't like her!

I agree with you. You can tell it was an accident and Ana feels bad for it in the next episode
