This question is nagging me for a while now... What caused the lock down? Do we know? Can we know? What are the theories?

I reckon the food drop caused the lockdown.

I tend to agree ... now.

Since we have since learned that Desmond knows how to over ride the lockdown, it is safe to assume that he had been there during lockdowns before and had used the over ride. Hopefully Desmond is still alive and we can learn more in season 3.

I've read somewhere that the lockdown was to divert everyone's attention to the food drop. I've interpretred this as since locke and gale where the only ones inthe vacinity of where the food drop was found that the lockdown was to keep them busy.

maybe the lockdown was caused by the Dharma ppl who obviously sent the food.
