ame en peine 06-15-2006, 09:17 AM I posted this in a thread regarding how everyone's apparently connected on Lost...
I'd bet, if as an experiment, everyone let their hair down on this board and said who they were, where they're from, where they live, who they know....we'd be astounded at how many connections pop up.
So, wondering how many of us know each other or someone else, either directly or indirectly? How many common threads will pop up amongst us? Just post where you grew up, worked, now live, whatever you're comfortable with. Let's see if there's any connections......
I grew up in Massapequa, NY, then lived is East Islip. Worked for Macy's Restaurant in Massapequa through college, then Grumman in Melville and Calverton. Went to culinary school at NYIT nights and weekends while working there. Moved to Maine. Worked as an event planner. Now work in a bank in Central Maine.
Sam G 06-15-2006, 10:05 AM Here you go, I grew up in West Babylon, just a stone's throw away from Massapequa. But I've lived in Chicago, Durham, N.C., St. Louis, MO, now SoCal.
Eventually, I figure I'll end up in New Zealand.

West Babylon- we were almost neighbors. Have a brother in SoCal - San Diego, and a sister in Santa Monica. Been there many times.
Sam G 06-15-2006, 10:16 AM West Babylon- we were almost neighbors. Have a brother in SoCal - San Diego, and a sister in Santa Monica. Been there many times. I completely believe in the small world, I've been here several years, and I run into people, that I know, from St. Louis and I would have never run into them back there.
IStoleCindy 06-15-2006, 10:16 AM Yay! You posted it! Brilliant!
Okay, I'm from Shrewsbury in England, with very little family beyond Scotland/Wales, but I've got friends from Mexico (Veracruz), California, Finland, Japan...
I worked for Morrisons for a little while, and I'm hopeful going to University in Cardiff next year.
This might get a score: I went to the Green Day concert in Milton Keynes last year, on the sunday. I've already come across other people who were there by chance, so I reckon someone on here was probably there, considering the size of it.
Haven't really seen too much of the world yet, so I'm not expecting a lot.
cipher271 06-15-2006, 11:22 AM ok - the obvious connection I have is that 'ame en peine' is my twin sister (& best friend). But -
Grew up in Massapequa, NY - then King's Park & East Islip - before moving to Central Maine. I worked for Fotomat for 11 years in NY. Best concerts I ever went to were Rolling Stones at Shea Stadium in 1989 (?) & U2 at Nassau Colliseum in 1991. I also used to go to A LOT of Grateful Dead concerts.

twilightsun 06-15-2006, 03:13 PM I grew up in and still live in upstate New York near Albany. ame en peine 06-15-2006, 07:44 PM Why was this thread moved to Games?? This topic is not much different than topics like Where did you go to college, or Know One Another By Name, both in General Discussions. I'm not really seeing how this is a game, more of finding out about each other. Am I missing something?
(edited for grammar)

Lol.. ya the cliffs of moher.. its an hours drive from where i live. Its a cool place. Went there a few times.. Its very scenic there and all..
The best part was lying down looking over the edge
Joshypoo 06-15-2006, 09:07 PM I grew up in northern Connecticut, also lived in Moultonborough, New Hampshire and now live in South Florida.
goddessblue 06-15-2006, 09:52 PM I grew up in NW Indiana, a Hoosier born and raised. I lived in several towns/cities all over da Region. Lived there most of my life with a couple of years in soCal (Claremont) thrown in during jr. high. Went to BSU, worked in downtown Chicago for several years, moved back out to soCal around 11 years ago. Lived in a little town near Mission Viejo for a few years, then relocated near Sacramento around 7 years ago.
There are several members of the 'lage that I've already noticed almost crossing paths with during my months here. Cities/areas in common...
I also used to go to A LOT of Grateful Dead concerts. There's a good chance I ran into you some where or other. I used to follow them each summer for several years. Been to concerts in Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, Wisconsin, Georgia, Kentucky, California, Arizona, Nevada... not all places are limited to the Dead, though. I was a big concert hopper before kids, lol. Try to still hit one when I can. Saw Dylan a few months ago....
Zelda 06-16-2006, 04:11 PM Not exactly sure on how to 'play'. But here's a few details...
I was born and raised in the 2nd smallest state, Delaware. I still live there, and go to the state university. I'm an animal science major, and my class even dissected our mascot..I did the Rhode Island Red though. I am a huge animal lover, and have always wanted a dog, and a horse. I eventually got a dog, now's all that is missing is the horse. I'm also a New Found Glory fan.
And despite Delaware being such a small state, I've never been to a DE beach, and have only been to southern DE twice. I'm a northerner, who despises snow.
A detail I forgot, I've been to Walt Disney World about 20 times or so, starting from when I was in kindergarten or first grade ~> and about to make it 21 in August. We always stay in the same hotel too! My family and I have met quite a bunch of people there. And my sister and I even saw a few classmates from our grade school.
There's probably so much more that I could put on here, to get connected with you guys. But if there is any comments or questions about good ole "Dela-where?", i'll be happy to reply or answer.
jbdean 06-18-2006, 01:56 AM Ok, I'll chime in. ;)
Born in Hawaii on Oahu. Moved from there to Lemoore, Calif (with a brief stop-off at Olympia, WA to meet my-then in-laws). Lived in Lemoore and Handford, CA until I moved to New York City. After NYC, I moved to Richland, WA and also lived in Kennewick, WA for a bit. From there I moved to Pullman, WA and then to Walla Walla, WA. After WW, WA I relocated to Los Angeles where I am currently.
Cities I've visited (aside from those above): Seattle, WA; Moscow, ID; Portland, OR; San Francisco, CA (actually most of the cities along the coast HWY 1); San Diego, CA (and just about every one in the So Cal area); Vale and Boulder, CO; Austin, TX; Chicago, IL; New Orleans, LA; Atlanta, GA; Miami and Kissemme, FL; Newark, NJ. I've also been to Alabama, but can't recall the name of the city.
Countries I've visited: Mexico, Holland, Belgium and Paris, France.
Places I've worked: William Doyle Antique Galleries (NYC), JA Jones Construction (Richland, WA), Lemoore School District (Lemoore, CA); Thomas Careers, The Walt Disney Co., Washington Mutual Bank, The Parents Television Council (Los Angeles, CA).

Thanks jbdean. I tried to sign your Desmond petition and it's closed. Let me know if there's a replacement anywhere and I'll sign for sure.

Great idea! I see that I already have "connections" with some of you--
I completely believe in the small world, I've been here several years, and I run into people, that I know, from St. Louis and I would have never run into them back there.
I'd only lived in Florida for about 6 months when I ran into someone from my (small) home town back in Mass., whom I'd never met before...but who had met my sister! Weird, huh?
... here is a bit of how small the world is! we went to Disney World one year for vacation.. and ran into one of our neighbors! How do we just bump into someone at Disney world.??? it's not exactly the smallest place in the world!!
It sure isn't! One year when my mom was here visiting my sister and I, we took her to DisneyWorld, and who should we run into but some good friends of hers from her church in MA! And again, neither of our groups knew the others would be there. I hadn't seen them since I was in my teens, so that was pretty cool.
First time I went to DisneyWorld was in 1980, and I've been there about 20 times since. I'd honestly go there every week if I could afford it!
I grew up in northern Connecticut, also lived in Moultonborough, New Hampshire and now live in South Florida.
I grew up in Massachusetts and moved to FL when in my 20s. The first year, I met a gal who became a good friend of mine, who was from Hartford CT. Lost track of her since then. We (my family) live in West-Central FL now.
Other places I've lived:
Missouri (a beautiful place I wouldn't mind living in again), Texas, Louisiana, Illinois (all a very long time ago).
Places I've worked that someone might recognize:
Friendly Ice Cream, The Ocean Deck (a rather famous oyster bar in Daytona Bch), the Village Inn (restaurant), Blueberry Hill/Magic Moment in Sarasota.
Oh, and my wonderful husband is from Hawaii. We met here in FL.
(Lucky me.)

I'm in! I grew up in Rhode Island, as well. Born and raised in Newport. Now live in southern Massachusetts. I have family in Hawaii (one of whom worked on Lost), and a friend in New Zealand.
Graduated from UMass Lowell, twice, and New England Conservatory of Music. I've worked forr various printing and copying operations, including doing digital services work for Kinko's. Currently, I'm on the music faculty of a state college here in Massachusetts, and of a small performing arts school. I also direct a church choir.

Just the town.. it was back in 2000. We only stopped there for a small bit. We were driving from Hollyhead to Nottingham and we came through shrewsbury on the way up and back. Stopped only to get something to eat like..
I live an hour from the cliffs..

goddessblue 06-21-2006, 02:28 PM Hmmmmm.....since folks are putting vacation spots....I've been to most of the states, probably like 30 of them, so I'm not gonna list them all, lol. But also Mexico, Jamaica, Aruba, Puerto Rico, and most recently went on vacation and was in Nice, Monte Carlo, Portofino, St. Tropez, Cannes. And I had a layover in London, does that count? :wink3:

I miss the mountains so much! We'll be driving thru CT and MA this summer. I have in-laws in HI, one of whom will be coming here to visit us in a few months. And...I dated a guy from Lowell when I was in college! Yep, it's a small world. How 'bout that. Oh, and I sang in church choir for many years, from when I was a child until very recently. (Soprano.)

This thread is fun!
100%
It might have been Oct but I don't think so as the weather was really nice in Florida and the Bahamas.
October is the perfect month to come to Florida! (But don't tell anyone; it's nice & quiet then.) :) It's my favorite month of the year.
EdMuse 06-23-2006, 03:08 AM And...I dated a guy from Lowell when I was in college! Yep, it's a small world. How 'bout that. Oh, and I sang in church choir for many years, from when I was a child until very recently. (Soprano.)
There's another connection-- I dated a girl from Lowell while I was in graduate school (eventually married her). We met singing in the same church choir (ain't that cute? trust me, the whole story is even cuter). She sang soprano.
So where did you go to college that you dated a guy from Lowell? Somewhere close to there? Or was it that he was originally from Lowell and, as many others yearn to do, had managed to get himself out?
ame en peine 06-23-2006, 08:12 AM That's when I was in the Bahamas! 1988 ... but I don't recall the month ... summer, I think or might have been Oct but I don't think so as the weather was really nice in Florida and the Bahamas. I went in Sept or October too. The weather was beautiful. Stayed at Cable Beach Resort and Casino (no longer named that), but went diving a few times on some group trips, went to the port for shopping and saw the cruise ships. Our last day there was wildly windy - it was the cusp of hurricane season. I remember flying back we hit huge turbulence.

I only ever got to see the Dead on the east coast. I was born and raised in Northern NJ and I'm continually surprised by the number of familiar faces that I see from shows. It would be hysterical if you or any of the other Deadheads knew Murph & Mary. They were at almost every show, and probably knew half the people on the lot.

LostIslandBaby 06-23-2006, 08:18 PM Oh, that sounds fun! Oh, and I forgot to mention the Walt Disney Concert Hall. I love that building! I haven't been during the daytime and haven't had the chance to look around the grounds, but the exterior of that building and the acoustics inside is just beyond words!I don't think I've been inside the Disney Concert Hall but when I worked for Disney one of my friends worked for the DCH. I have been to the Dorothy Chandler and Mark Taper Forum several times and love it. I saw Gregory Peck and Angelica Houston recite Irish poetry at the Mark Tapper and saw Amadeus (the play) there, too. Saw the ballet Cinderella at the Dorothy Chandler.
LostIslandBaby 06-23-2006, 08:30 PM Yeah, they've done great things to the downtown area. I just really have always loved it.
I have a friend who works for Disney now, in their reservations center. Believe it or not, his name is Walt. I've never asked him to tell us what people say when he answers their calls, as I can easily imagine!
So where did you go to college that you dated a guy from Lowell? Somewhere close to there? Or was it that he was originally from Lowell and, as many others yearn to do, had managed to get himself out?
A small town community college in north-western MA. He also attended school there. What he did after we graduated, I can't say--I moved to FL soon after that. I think he wanted to leave Lowell, though. Hard to remember so long ago!

 I know, jb - that would be a true "Lost" moment, huh? I was hoping you'd write back that you went on a dive trip, I have video of that. I'll see if I can find any pictures of the cruise ships and port areas we visited. If there's people in the background I'll send the pictures to you.
ame en peine and jbdean, that would be amazing if you'd been in the same place at the same time. Be sure to let us know the outcome of this story! (It'd make a pretty good story, I think.)

sunshinekitty1 06-24-2006, 10:38 PM Hey! I'm from Memphis and have lived in the South all my life. My family has friends in Northern Ireland and I consider them family because I've known them since I was born. One of them is Adrian Logan, from Dungannon. My understanding is that he's a pretty well known sportscaster for Ulster TV. So, I'll just throw that out there.
Random story - two of my friends who only knew each other through me ran into each other on top of the Eiffel Tower. I always thought that was pretty neat.
jbdean 06-27-2006, 01:11 AM I know, jb - that would be a true "Lost" moment, huh? I was hoping you'd write back that you went on a dive trip, I have video of that. I'll see if I can find any pictures of the cruise ships and port areas we visited. If there's people in the background I'll send the pictures to you. My ship was called the Emerald Sea. We didn't go diving but we did hang out in town and go to some of the shops. The cruise line had their own "island" and that's where we all went swimming and stuff.
elfdream 06-27-2006, 09:15 AM Interesting thread...

And, I head up your way quite often, mostly for work, but sometimes for fun. A few weeks ago we went to the Vintage Virginia Festival in Centreville.
IrishUnicorn 07-10-2006, 01:49 PM Hey! I'm from Memphis and have lived in the South all my life.
I live about 2 hours away from Memphis. But I have cousins who live in Memphis, and my aunt and uncle used to live there years ago.

elfdream 07-10-2006, 02:39 PM My daughter works in Fredericksburg from time to time-she works for the Bluemont Concert people and they have activities in Fredericksburg.

pinkrose 07-11-2006, 01:55 PM This thread is such a cool idea.
I've lived in "downriver" (southern Detroit suburbs) Michigan all my life. Both my hubby and my families have people who live in Pikeville, KY. As far as we know, we haven't found any close relation. It seems like everyone we meet has family from there even though it's such a small town.
I've vacationed in Morehead, KY and Marshall (near Asheville), NC most summers when I was younger. My grandparents lived there. I went to DisneyWorld during spring break in 1998 with the school band. I went to BPA nationals in Philadelphia, PA in 1999, and Minneapolis, MN in 2000. I went to Williamsburg, VA in May of 2000 also with the school band. I honeymooned in Myrtle Beach, SC and Wilmington, NC in May of 2004. I visited Oahu in March/April of 2005 with my sister's school band. That's all I can think of right now.
elfdream 07-11-2006, 02:22 PM I have relatives in Asheville NC. In fact I used to spend my summers there as well. Beautiful city. I also know where Marshall is...my late uncle and his family lived there. :)
pinkrose 07-11-2006, 02:26 PM I have relatives in Asheville NC. In fact I used to spend my summers there as well. Beautiful city. I also know where Marshall is...my late uncle and his family lived there. :)That's cool. Marshall is such a small town. Most people have never heard of it. My grandparents have a cottage that my grandpa built as well as about 25 acres of land. When my mom was younger they used to vacation for about a month in the summer. After all the kids were grown, they spent the whole summer there. For a long time the street they lived on wasn't named. It was almost named after my grandpa, but the one other house on the street had been there longer so it was named after them instead.
Starrox 07-11-2006, 08:28 PM maiden name: bielefeld (if you've heard it before, it's probably a relative of mine!)
I've heard the name before, but only as the name of a city (which, according to rumors, doesn't really exist and is just the product of a huge conspiracy :24:) here in Germany... ;)

that's where my father's side of the family originated. i actually took a picture of the city sign when i was there--just to prove it really existed (like a sign is proof, right?). how did that whole thing start, anyway?
sorry for the ot post, but it's just so curious...
EarlhamGirl 07-12-2006, 09:21 AM I have relatives in Asheville NC. In fact I used to spend my summers there as well. Beautiful city. I also know where Marshall is...my late uncle and his family lived there. :)
Are you serious!!! My Dad's side of the family grew up there!!! :D It really is a small world! ;)
pinkrose 07-12-2006, 10:47 AM I might as well ask since we're discussing the Asheville/Marshall area. Does anybody know or is anybody related to anyone with the last name Cantrell?
elfdream 07-12-2006, 11:15 AM I should. That name seems familar but I can't place it.
EarlhamGirl 07-12-2006, 06:00 PM I might as well ask since we're discussing the Asheville/Marshall area. Does anybody know or is anybody related to anyone with the last name Cantrell?
I don't believe I know that name, but then again I didn't grow up in the Asheville area (just my Dad and Grandpa did).
That makes me think of Blu Cantrell the singer! :D

Qboots 07-25-2006, 12:34 PM I had stated somewhere that it would be awesome to do something like this! there are tons of us on this site.. and atleast some of us have a connection... we have to have a connection! Thanks for posting this! I don't have any connections to any of you so far.. but here is a bit of how small the world is! My family and I are from Virginia and went to Disney World one year for vacation.. soo... we are walking in one of the parks at Disney and ran into one of our neighbors! He had no idea we would be there.. and we had no idea he would be there! How do we just bumb into someone at Disney world.??? it's not exactly the smallest place in the world!!!!!
It would have been really funny if you bumped into them on the "It's a Small World" ride!
I'm one of those who believes it truly is a small world. I have no problem believing that all the castaways on "Lost" could have crossed paths earlier in their lives. Just as I'm sure lots of Fuselage members have crossed paths and not known it. Maybe this thread can prove it.
I've lived my whole life in Ontario, and I don't travel much, so I don't cross paths with too many people, but I'll list some places I've been, and I'd be willing to bet some of my fellow posters may have been at those places at the same time.
I spent a week at Walt Disney World in mid-May of 1999. We stayed at a resort called Vistana. I've visited Boston twice: March 1995 and May 1996.
I've seen the Rolling Stones six times:
Oshawa Ont., April 1979
Rich Stadium Buffalo, Sept. 1981
Pontiac Silverdome, Nov. 1981
CNE Toronto, Sept. 1989
Skydome Toronto, Dec. 1989
CNE Toronto, Aug. 1994
Surely someone here was at those same concerts!

He had no idea we would be there.. and we had no idea he would be there! How do we just bumb into someone at Disney world.??? it's not exactly the smallest place in the world!!!!!OH, OH, OH! I have a Disneyland story!!
When my daughter was 2-4 we lived in Walla Walla, WA and I had a good friend who had a son the same age as my daughter. Both of us were single parents so we really bonded. Anyway, I move to LA and now my daughter is like 8 or 9 and we're at Disneyland. We were at the Toontown section and going through the "post office" when I crawl under the door and when I come up, I'm face to face with Robin (my friend from Walla Walla who I hadn't seen or heard from in 4-5 years!). She and I just stared at each other for a few beats and then, when it dawned on us who the other one was, we grabbed each other and began screaming and jumping up and down! I wish I'd had that on video. Would have been a sure winner for America's Funniest Videos. Anyway, once we calmed down, we looked over at our kids (who happened to be standing next to each other but didn't have a clue who the other woman was who was jumping with their mom). When Robin and I said, at the same time to our own kids, "This is [Robin]/[Jane]." They looked at each other and realized who they were! LOL They didn't get as excited as we did but they were pretty amazed at the chance meeting. And while I lived in LA then, Robin was simply on vacation ... making the odds of running into each other even higher.
great story, jbdean! We've also run into 'long-lost' friends at DisneyWorld. What fun.
