One of the bummers of catching the show halfway through the season was the fact that I didn't get to see much of Libby. She's so sweet, and was the only woman with such a great heart. And after finding out Des' boat was from her, it would be nice to see the puzzles start to connect. And Hurley's had enough bad luck... anyone else know of other reasons she shoulda stayed on?

I think I'll miss Libby as well. Not so much because I particularly cared for the character, because I really didn't care about her one way or the other.

But the character looked very promising, as far as making connections and possibly getting into some of the mystery solutions. I'll miss her contribution to that.

Although, I guess they could use her in flashbacks to flesh some things out. Like Hurley's mental institution experience. It may turn out that Hurley knows a lot about Libby and who she was connected to. I look forward to him remembering that.

Now I read this, and I realize another reason they killed her character: to confound us! She was nice, but a little mysterious and underdeveloped (she didn't even have a last name). So, we get the idea that she will be the key to things, especially having seen her in Hurley's flashback. We know there's more to find out about her. Then they kill her off. Now we're all chatting about how they can fulfill the mystery, and we're all eyes and ears clambering for what they might do with her next season. Great storyline device.

BTW, the other reason she had to be "gotten out of the way" was that it wouldn't really have done to have had her and Desmond meet up again, would it? She may not have made much of an impression on Hurley before they got to the island, but Desmond surely would have recognized her, and that could have sent the story in a completely different direction. Notice he ran for it shortly before they found the Tailies, and showed up again during her funeral.

And another BTW, I'll miss her, too, mostly because I think Cynthia Watros is great. Her Libby added a certain lightness and sensibility to the sometimes overblown gravitas of the show.

It sounds like she will be in more flashbacks of some sort, but that is cheesy if you ask me and am loosing faith in the show because of that.

I'd imagine that via flashbacks we will see more of her than some of the other characters. The is a real question as to whether she met Desmond by chance or was a plant to get get the boat to him. Equally curious is when she was in the hospital with Hurley. Was she there as a mole or did she really suffer a breakdown?

I want Libby back too. She was super mysterious........I love those kind of characters. I truly hope we find out what she was doing in that hospital with Hurley.........and all her other secrets. Who knows........we thought Desmond was dead and not coming back and the genius creative team brought him back.........so maybe there is hope for Libby afterall.

Well, we know so little about her that she could show up almost anywhere. Who would have thought, having seen her in the mental institution in Hurley's flashback, that she would turn out to be this rich, high society woman who goes around giving away yachts? There's so much more that can be done there, and I think the idea of developing a character who is already dead is really intreguing.

As I think about it, though, TPTB will have to be very artful in how she ends up in a flashback of someone who met her on the island. As I said, she and Desmond could not have come face to face on the island without recognizing eachother. So, for instance, she couldn't have been one of Sawyer's marks. She probably couldn't have been a patient of Jack's.

So, I guess it depends on what you think she was up to in the characters' lives. Some think she was steering people toward the island. So, as in Hurley's flashback, she may turn up in the background, on the sidelines of various characters' flashbacks, guiding them along without overtly interfering with their lives. In that sense, I think it would be amazing to see her in a Kate flashback.

If she was in others flashbacks, it would have to be in such a small way that they forget her.

I don't know about that, Steven. Heck, Hurley wasn't even sure where he saw her. But she did look much different in the hospital then she did on the island. So, you never know.

That would be really creepy! It would be quite something if Libby turned out to be a major factor on why they are all on the island in the first place..........seems like it could head in that direction with her being involved in so many people's previous lives!

Libby was such an unexplored character, i think that she was so under used. She also said one of the funniest lines of S2. The delivery of 'And don't tell me you made me up. It's insulting' to Hurley was classic. I'm stressed that they keep killing the interesting characters.

I think we could see her in just about anyone's FB's. Of course it would have to be really fleeting because otherwise people would of remembered her. I hope it's Jack. just cos he's got connections to most people apparently!:biggrin:
