I would currently guess "a shipwrecked guy"... with reservations.

He seems slightly too aware of local environment to be from the plane.
To be a better candidate for Alex, he should be somewhat younger.
As for an alien... he might pass for a shipwrecked one
who decided that "human" was the fashion of the day...
...even if I currently consider that unlikely.

there are so many theorys now that its so hard to choose what to vote for. ethan could be ANYONE. if you look in the comic book walt is reading, ull see its "shazzam" and that there are ALIENS and POLAR BEARS. and remember, Walt does have mysterious powers, he could have possibly thought up ethan, the monster, and the polar bear. But if i were to strongly agree with any, I wqould have to say that he was Alex.

He could be anything with the way this show goes.
