I've had my iPod for a year and I just got a laptop for college. I need to transfer all my music from my home computer to the new one. Does anyone know how to transfer my iPod music library to a new computer? :undecide:

im pretty sure you can actually transfer the whole library to your ipod in its file form and then to your new computer just using the ipod listed in your "my computer"

Really? I never knew that. I had to start using a different computer a couple of months ago, so I just downloaded all of my CDs AGAIN and re-bought all of my songs from iTunes. Which sucked.:wallbash:

i've never done it but i think if you go to the ipod options, then go to music options and change it to custom update, you can click and drag the music to your pc. but like i said i never did it. so let me know how it goes. if you have any more questions pm me.

Hey, dunno if you've already done something but What I am doing when I upgrade my Hard-Drive is put all my files onto a portable hard-drive and then take the files from the portable onto the new one in my computer...............

If you go Edit, Prefrences, sellect the advanced tab and see where your files are stored.... (I think it should be in a folder in your "my music" folder , but check that way)

Once you know where the files are you can put them on the portable hard-drive and store them there........ only do-able with a portable hard-drive though..............

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm checking outt he using your ipod as a portable data storage devise so I might post something later...... I'm pritty sure its possible

Sorry if you don't have the portable hard-drive :frown:

Well Its figured out now....... can you please PM with info about your Ipod and the size of your librabry ????
I'll tell you what to do anyway but I'm using my 30gig Video....... connect the ipod and let Itunes update it....... when finnished click on the 4th icon on the bottom of the page (display ipod optioins) and then there is a box you can tic, "enable disk use" and there you have it........ you will probably have to wipe the Ipod though and that is something I would have to look into even more................ hope I'm helping......... I need somethign to do at 1:53am
(thats on the most recent update)

^yeah so the beauty of ur ipod is that it can act as a portable hard drive
just open my computer and a seperate window with the files you want and just drag and drop them onto your ipod
