strawberry banana the official ice cream flavor of Skate now, what do ya all thnk of that? :biggrin:
Excellent thought Fricks...I have adopted the official fruit too..
Okay I tried to go to bed, that didn't work, I tried to re-watch the episode and I cried my eyes out again, so I decided it was tim efor me to answer my own questions...So here we go...
What did you think of tonight's episode? As is the norm with Lost, I absolutely loved it, and not for someof the same reasons as I have seen that others love it. I have several other reasons, to which I will elaborate after my answers.
What was your favorite SKATE moment, since there were several to choose from? Well I'm not even going to choose the KISS because, a) that's too easy and b) it's expected. I have two favorite moments. I absolutely thought it was priceless when he dumped the water out on to the ground. No it was not a SKATE moment, persay, but it was a defining Sawyer moment that was relavant to SKATE. It's not about what he did, but, as is the norm with Sawyer, it's about why he did it. He poured recognized the fact that Juliet was testing him and trying to see where his loyalty stood. So what did he do, he played right into her hand, took the water canteen and promptly dumped the contents on the ground, as if to say, "don't try to play me darlin, I got way more on the ball that you ever thought about havin'."
Secondly, by doing this he showed Juliet how important Kate was to him. As I said before, she couldn't play him, she couldn't test him and she couldn't break him, and herein lies the key. They'll have to break him and he don't break easy. That's one pony that ain't goin' down without a fight.
What was the worst moment (SKATE or otherwise)? I can think of several worst moments actually and only one is SKATE. Being the lover of crystal that I am, seeing that very very expensive Lalique ballerina hitting the floor definately ranks up there. Secondly, the body falling and hitting Jin's car was very sad. I was very pleased to see Jin could not kill Jae, but sadly I think someone else did. I don't see anyway Jae would have jumped out that window on his own. And finally, I would mention Sawyer getting sick after being put back in the cage. I understand electric shock causes intense nausea, so that would stand to reason.
What did you think about all the information Sawyer got so quickly from such a short amount of time? Actually to me, it's not so much about the information as it is about Sawyer being back to what he is and what he should be. In just that short amount of time, he was able to glean that much information so fast. And he did it by giving them exactly what they wanted so that he could exactly what he wanted. he put them on the defensive, turned the situation around and took them right where they were dying to go. And then at the very end he puts his arms out in a submissive position. When the arms are crossed in front of the body that is a defensive position, when they are open that is a submissive position. He knew the consequences of his actions. He made a decision and he did it to get the desired response, again, knowing full well what it would cost him.
How do you think he'll use it? The answer to that lies in the little silloquy he was spouting when Ben was watching. He would use that information against them to stage his "prison break" so to speak for him and Kate. Sawyer is smart, cunning and incredibly perceptive. And the fact that Ben was watching on those cameras means absolutely nothing, there will be absolutley no contest. Sawyer will get what he wants and he will do what's necessary to get himself and Kate home safely.
Favorite lines.
1) "Sooner or later, they gonna let they guard down, and when they do, you and me gonna be there to put 'em in they place."
2) "Chain gang looks good on you Freckles."
3) "Yes'm boss!"
General thoughts and observances.
I think this episode gave us tremendously more insight into the relationship between these two. The exchanges inside the cages prove it, as does the kiss. The kiss primarily I was pleased with. No I don't think by any means it was as hot as the kiss in CM, that's a given but what we did see here, was Sawyer's power as a man. He absolutely knew what would happen and it was so worth it to him to do it.
First the defiance at Juliet, and then staring at Kate until he just couldn't stop it anymore. He had to kiss her right then and he was going to no matter what it cost him and what the consequences were. In Sawyer's mind, the end justifies the means, meaning that he was going to do whatever was necesssary and whatever he had to do to obtain what he wanted. And he wanted to kiss Kate, and obtain information and he got the answers to all of that.
Okay my eyes are fuzzy and I can barely see the keys any more, so I am outta here. And to those of you waiting for Chapter 7, it's coming very soon, definately before the weekend's out.
Huggs everyone...see you tomorrow.
Love,
Lisa ;)

Lost_In_Louisiana 10-12-2006, 03:38 AM Hi y'all!
I've lurked in this thread off and on and have always had a secret desire for Sawyer & Kate to get together. Tonight when they kissed, I swear I heard a CACOPHONY OF SQUEEEEE's from the Skaters! :biggrin:
I agree with whoever said that Kate needed a partner, not a leader. She is fiercely independent and Jack always seemed to want to dictate what she could and couldn't do, and where she could and couldn't go. :rolleyes: Sawyer gives Kate much more freedom to be herself and he actually admires her feisty spirit. ;)
It seems obvious to ME anyway that they belong together. :inlove:
You and I will probably never agree on this issue...because I'm a vehement non conformist, and a very opininated...dedicated arguer ;)
After reading about 10-12 pages of the spoiler controversy and the theories that the Jaters were not having as much of a problem in their ship thread, I came to the conclusion that perhaps Skaters, as a rule, are more rebellious sorts. :p So it stands to reason that there would be more discontent in regard to "rules" set down by "authority figures" in this thread! :redface: :lol:
Stay feisty, y'all! :biggrin:

WOO HOO!!!
Didn't you just love the looks we got before and after the kiss again? Love to see that emotion. :8:
fricksgurl75 10-12-2006, 03:46 AM Lisa... beautifully said... ITA
Love the way Sawyer thinks... and props to someone over at our Lost Treehouse for pointing out that Sawyer was getting info and causing a distraction, but at the same time wanted, needed to kiss her. The look on his face was apparent there, when he watched her working... And she kissed him back too. The look on her face after was wonderful. He ran his thumb across her face as he smiled at her before being knocked down from behind.
The scene at the end, when he tells her she tasted like Strawberries and her saying he tasted like the fish biscuit, that little exchange they had, with both of them looking, wll, rather sappily at eachother to use that term, was cute, in a very Skatey way. And then acknowledging and actually talking about their recent kiss, communicating plans to escape, showed me what i love about this couple.
And yes my friends they are acting like a couple, the whole 'you can work without the dress' look he gave her, the reproachful look she gave him, and his backtrack with the 'how dare you?' And of course the 'stop looking at my :censored: ' satement, which i love. Perfect example of the way they deal with one another. Annoyance at his idiocy but when he was injured and sick, her concern came through.. her love came through. That's beautiful to me.:biggrin:
Lost_In_Louisiana 10-12-2006, 03:54 AM Love the way Sawyer thinks... and props to someone over at our Lost Treehouse for pointing out that Sawyer was getting info and causing a distraction, but at the same time wanted, needed to kiss her.
I think a lot of LOST viewers assumed the kiss was merely a distraction technique for Sawyer to gain information considering the conversation Sawyer & Kate had later. But he could have caused a distraction a million other ways, couldn't he? I think he saw his chance to plant one on Kate, while implying to her that it was just a distraction.
Sawyer doesn't like feeling vulnerable and by having an escape plan as a reason for the kiss, he is protecting himself in case she rejects him. But I don't see her rejecting him at all! I think these 2 will definitely be pairing up soon. :inlove:
Save The Humans 10-12-2006, 03:57 AM I just keep thinking of the old line (Shakespeare, I think) that "the course of true love never runs smooth." This true love is gonna be one bumpy ride, I suspect. Wonder what Benry has in mind for our sharp but too-confident con man. . . .:eek: :sob:
Ghost963 10-12-2006, 04:38 AM I have a theory about that actually StH...
I think that since it was made obvious that Pickett was involved with what's-her-butt-who-got-shot-by-Sun, I think it may be Pickett who's doin the torturing of our boy and I think it may be more anger driven than anything. Kind of a Benry turns him loose in a sense...
Were there any good scenes in the Canadian teaser for next week because the American one didn't keep me too interested... 6 MORE DAYS!! :sadwalk:
Kristina 10-12-2006, 06:16 AM What did you think of tonight's episode?
Well I loved it naturally.... Even though I'm usually not that interested in Jin/Sun, I even found theire back story interesting.
What was your favorite SKATE moment, since there were several to choose from?
Well, besides the kiss (which was hot even though it was used as a distraction, probably to the relief of all Jaters ;)), I loved when he was watching her using the axe, the look on his face was so sweet. And naturally, the "strawberry" comment :lol:, it was significant because they openly acknowledged their kiss and talked about it.
What was the worst moment (SKATE or otherwise)? When we found out that Benry is watching Kate and Sawer talk!! I don't like that man, and I have a feeling that the only one that can fool/play him is Juliet...
What did you think about all the information Sawyer got so quickly from such a short amount of time?
I'm not ver ysuprised. He is/was a con man, and he is by no means stupid. Somehow that is often forgotten, perhaps due to his snarky remarks and "bad boy" image, but he is very smart at least in his area.......
How do you think he'll use it?
Spoilefonting just in case.... They will probably try to escape, but Benry is going to put a blunt stop th their plans, and since Sawyer is Sawyer and always ends up beaten, tortured or shot, he will probably end up that way this season as well.... Perhaps Benry&Co will use Kate against him? Which would probably be even more efficient than torturing/beating/shoting him, since he will do almost anything for her...... Oh, I have a feeling the next 4 eppis are going to be sad :cry:
Favorite lines.
"You taste like strawberries - And you taste like fish biscuits"
Can't we get a fish biscuit icon?????
:strawbry: :strawbry: :strawbry: :strawbry: :strawbry: :strawbry: :strawbry: :strawbry:
General thoughts and observances.
So Juliet wouldn't hesitate to kill Kate? That's interesting, because from last weeks eppi we got the feeling that she is humane and sensetive. But perhaps that's only against Jack, and when she wants something? I have a feeling that Kate should watch out for Juliet, and since Juliet is smart she now knows how much Kate means to Sawyer, and Ben has already established how much Sawyer means to Kate.... So I guess the others know a lot, don't they?
car88win 10-12-2006, 07:38 AM Nope. I just type really slowly. :redface:
Ok, then I'm glad that's all it was. I was like, there's now way we already did something again. :eek2: Thanks for letting us all in on what is expected. ;)
Now, that I've gotten some sleep, I have to see what everyone has posted to the GREAT questions we have.
And GOOD morning OutKaSters!!
mangopie 10-12-2006, 09:51 AM Good Morning Outkasters!! :jump1: :clapping: :group: Whew....I finally got back on the ship. What an episode!! I honestly think it was my favorite Lost ever. It felt like I was eight years old and it was Christmas morning.
What did you think of tonight's episode?
I obviously thought the Skate scenes were amazing. The Sun and Jim fb's were very sad, I thought. We knew she had some feelings for Jae, but we now see a different, darker side to Sun. We see she doesn't really have any troubling being a liar to the people that she cares about. I'd still like to know how in the world her father found her there. Can you imagine??? And poor Jin!!! He's working for her father, and it's killing him inside, just to be with Sun, and she cheats on him.
The scenes between Jack and Benjamin were awesome. A lot of info for the viewers for here.
What was your favorite SKATE moment, since there were several to choose from? Loved, Loved, Loved the kiss. It was very hot. And she definitely wanted it. Who wouldn't? And the shortcake line was amazing. So sweet, I honestly was almost in tears during that epi. I also loved that Sawyer kicked some major Others' collective a**.
What was the worst moment (SKATE or otherwise)? I thought the Sun and Jin flashbacks were very sad. As for Skate moments, I didn't like seeing him getting tasered again and again. One thing I don't like is this overall feeling I get from Kate, like she knows something terrible is going to happen.
What did you think about all the information Sawyer got so quickly from such a short amount of time?
Sawyer is a really smart guy. He's very well read and can read people very easily. I think he is way too intelligent to not know they are being watched. I believe he is conning the Others somehow by revealing the information he has. It may not seem like it, but those cameras are plain view!! He must have a plan. I honestly never saw it coming during the Long Con. And I think we're in for some very exciting television in the weeks to come.
Strawberry Banana ice cream for everyone!!!! Enjoy re-watching this episode 100 times, I know I will! :strawbry: :banana: :strawbry: :banana: :strawbry: :banana:
sheba 10-12-2006, 09:55 AM Great questions Lisa!
What did you think of tonight's episode?
I liked it very much. It was definitely the best Sun/Jin-centric ever ... and great SKate was a big 'ol bonus!
What was your favorite SKATE moment, since there were several to choose from?
I think I am officially a freak, since out of all the comments I've read on this and several other threads I've not seen anyone else say that they saw the scene quite the way I did, but here goes ...
My favorite SKate moment was the few seconds in between the canteen emptying and the kiss. The kiss was great and all, but the few seconds before were just sublime for me.
What I saw was him being so satisfied and amused with himself for having basically told Juliet to shove it ... then quickly realizing the folly of what he had done. He had cut his nose off, to spite Kate's face. A twinge of guilt as he looks at Kate. Look at her. His bold and fiesty "me Kate ... me throw rock" ... hot and sweating (and no doubt thirsty) ... tired and humiliated by being forced to manual labor in that dainty little dress that makes her so uncomfortable. Her defiance is shattered. She looks like she's about to cry ... about to crack. She needs.
How can he just stand there being self-satisfied when Kate needs? She needs something to rally her spirits ... something to keep going for. He has nothing. He had something that would have helped her, but he had just foolishly dumped it out. What can he do? He has to do something.
Then it dawns on him. He does have something. He has himself. He is completely emotionally stripped. He wants her desperately and he's not exactly sure if she feels as strongly about him. He knows it will be a costly move, but he also knows that he can take it. He can't risk Kate reaching a point where she can't take it anymore.
Deep breath ... charge! Let it never be said that our boy doesn't know how to deliver a pick-me-up. :biggrin:
*sigh* Maybe I just read too much into things.
What was the worst moment (SKATE or otherwise)?
Watching Ben listening to Sawyer and Kate talking.
What did you think about all the information Sawyer got so quickly from such a short amount of time?
I said in another thread that the two best judges of character on the show were Sawyer and Locke. Both are keen observers and I wasn't a bit surprised to see him sum things up quickly.
How do you think he'll use it?
I have no idea ... but I'm dying to find out. :)

IceKat55 10-12-2006, 12:09 PM Courtesy of LeahKate over at LF - - some media responses she's found re: last night's episode:
From TVSquad -
Moving on... Sawyer and Kate were stuck doing manual labor for The Others. They were breaking up rocks and moving them. Seems like kind of a pointless exercise when you're on an island covered in them. Kate did have a conversation with that brunette, the rebel. She's the one who helped Claire escape last season right? Not sure why they've re-introduced her. Regardless, after that it got interesting. Sawyer said screw it and kissed Kate. She kissed back. Oooohhhh! But his motives only became clear after he talked to Kate later. He kissed her because he wanted to but also to test his captors abilities. He got his *** kicked after the smooch but now he knows what Zeke's buddies are capable of. Too bad Ben hears all of Sawyer's plans over a closed-circuit TV security feed.
From TVCocktail -
KISS ME, KATE
Let’s cut to the chase on this scene: Sawyer drops his shovel, walks over to Kate and lays one helluva kiss on her. The others drop kick him. He fights back. He grabs a gun. Juliet holds Kate at gunpoint and instructs James to put his gun down. They taser him. Again.
When Sawyer and Kate are alone in their cages, they start devising a plan. All the while, Ben watches them through a panel of six video screens in his secret lair. The sound quality is impeccable. Those bear cage mics must get excellent pick-up. What are they, Sony?
From DocArtz, The Tail Section -
Skate Spoilers: Romance Done Right.
In the romance done right category, Sawyer comes upon a struggling Kate radiating exhaustion. You can see the heartfelt sympathy in his eyes. It’s a rare moment for Sawyer. True emotion comes through vividly, which is a testament to Josh Holloway’s acting. It’s not enough to just give the sad look, but to make it look so uncommon to Sawyer’s guise, as if he is surrendering to it, was magic. He says to hell with it, walks over, and lays a kiss on her. This naturally draws the ire of the others who descend in force. Sawyer actually kicks some major *** in this scene. Taking out several others by himself, getting his hands on a shocker and an Ak-47! Ultimately, Juliet, who calls him James, puts a gun to Kate’s head and he gives up, accepting a shock for his troubles.
And not related to the ep in particular, but this is from a new interview (http://www.mediablvd.com/magazine/Magazine-Home/MBMag_2006042016644257.html) with Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse -
Damon: And, you can’t write chemistry. From the word go, Michelle Rodriguez’s arc was always going to end in her dying at the end of season 2, but we were talking about her as being a love interest for Matthew Fox’s character. Then, in their scenes together, those sparks never really happened, so we just had them be army buddies. We cut bait on that storyline because you can’t write chemistry.
Carlton: You have to listen to what the show tells you it wants to do.
Amen, gentlemen. A-frickin'-men!! :biggrin:
Blue Coral 10-12-2006, 12:22 PM Ok I have never been a big shipper. I used to never care who Kate ends up with.
I've chosen after last nights episode. I was kind of leaning for them by the last season and now it's become clear since last night's eppy.
I am a Skater.
So, can I join the group?
:) :)
honeypoppy0212 10-12-2006, 12:29 PM What did you think of tonight's episode?
I thought it was great! Plenty of wonderful Skate scenes, action scenes, and Other scenes.
What was your favorite SKATE moment, since there were several to choose from?
That's a really hard question to answer. :biggrin: But, I think I'm gonna have to go with the cage scene at the end as my favorite. I loved how smart Sawyer was to remember everything about the Others and test them like that. I also loved that Kate was so proud of him. And of course I loved when he told her she tasted like strawberries. :wub: :strawbry:
What was the worst moment (SKATE or otherwise)?
I hated that Sun cheated on Jin and also that Ben was watching Kate and Sawyer the whole time.
What did you think about all the information Sawyer got so quickly from such a short amount of time?
I kept saying, OMG Sawyer is so smart! :biggrin:
How do you think he'll use it?
I think in the end, the info he got will help them escape.
wow Lisa GREAT questions... and i love to answer this stuff..
What did you think of tonight's episode? I loved it of course. Actually all the parts not just the Skate ones.. esp the mention of my 2004 World Champion Red Sox :biggrin: I just love seeing that footage again.. the icing on the cake..
LOL Fricks! Totally knew you were going to say that. I was sitting there watching with my hubby and I was like...oohh that's Fricks's team. Hee
Thanks for bringing that over IceKat!! And I totally agree with the whole chemistry thing. You just can't write chemistry...it happens naturally and Skate proves that. ;)
100%

Blue Coral 10-12-2006, 12:56 PM What did you think of tonight's episode?
I absolutely adored it. Sawyer made the entire episode. The romance was on high and I saw the most romantic lost kiss ever.
What was your favorite SKATE moment, since there were several to choose from?
Has to be, hands down for me, the kiss. The way he looked at her. She was so tired and looked so lonely. The way he threw everything down and propriety be damned, he swirled her around and kissed her! *sigh* best.kiss.ever.
What was the worst moment (SKATE or otherwise)?
I couldn't think of a worst Skate moment, so I'd have to say, the worst was when we found out Sun's dirty little cheating secret.
What did you think about all the information Sawyer got so quickly from such a short amount of time?
I was actually surprised that he did that. Then again, Sawyer never ceases to surprise me. He's always coming out with stuff. Loved it.
How do you think he'll use it?
Personally, I don't think he'll get a chance to use it. And maybe...just maybe...he knows someone was listening to him in the cage and he's fooling them.
:biggrin:
Great question!
[QUOTE]Welcome Blue Coral!!! Girlspy will give you a number as soon as she sees your post. Glad to have you join us!
Thank you so much for the welcome!!! This is great!
Dezdemona 10-12-2006, 02:56 PM Great questions, Lisa! I think I'll answer first and read others' responses afterward, so as to give my own impressions after watching it.
What did you think of tonight's episode?
I thought this was an A+ episode. Every scene had purpose and moved along quickly. It had action, intrigue and romance in just the right mix. The flashbacks were excellent - revealing and relevant - and added more layers to both Sun and Jin. The relationship between Kate and Sawyer moved to a new level, and was delightfully entertaining all the way.
What was your favorite SKATE moment, since there were several to choose from?
Can I be greedy and choose a whole scene, rather than just a "moment"? I loved every aspect of their conversation in the cages after being thrown back there. I loved Kate's concern, as evidenced by the way she looked like she was trying to squeeze through the bars and even crouched down to his level when he was hurting. I loved the dawning expression of impressed amusement on her face as she finally realizes that he was testing their enemies and taking notes. I loved the way Sawyer conveys that he found their kiss sweet and delicious, and Kate's pleased and flirtatious reaction to that. I loved the dreamy and steamy moment of eye contact after that, till Kate actually has to look away in order to get her thoughts together... note the raised eyebrow thing she did. "Focus, Kate, focus!" I also loved when she asked why Juliet called him James and he admitted it's his name. If this series were to run for 10 years, this scene would always be one of my favorites because IMO it marks the moment their relationship shifted, when both of them acknowledged the potential for romance.
What was the worst moment (SKATE or otherwise)?
I really felt for Jin, diving off the dock thinking Sun was disappearing into the darkened night on that boat, exactly the way Walt had done off the raft.
What did you think about all the information Sawyer got so quickly from such a short amount of time?
It was clear in every scene he was in that Sawyer was paying close attention to the Others, which of them had weapons, how they interacted, etc. He'd already sized up each of the men and had probably formed an impression as to which would be toughest, etc. The fight, itself, added more data. It was an excellent fight, nice to see him dish it out for a change.
How do you think he'll use it?
I think his plan is pay close attention to learn more about them, watch for opportunities, just as he said. Unfortunately, there are factors he's not aware of. One of them is that Ben is aware of his plans, and the other is that Pickett's girlfriend was shot. I'm guessing both those things could factor into future developments.
Favorite lines.
1) "How dare you!" Hee!
2) "SHE got to ask a question." Hee! again.
3) "Chain gang looks good on you Freckles."
4) "Another thing I noticed. You taste like strawberries." And the smile....whoa!
5) "... Shortcake." Strawberry shortcake! Loved it.
General thoughts and observations
I loved that moment when Sawyer saw how exhausted Kate was and just had to do SOMETHING to give her a break. How decisively he marched up to her and grabbed her. How, even though she's been calling him on being a horndog all day, the minute he kissed her she got lost in it. Their conversation at the cages had a new level of candour, complicity and trust in it. I think the relationship moved to a new level as of this episode.
:biggrin: :heart: :mushy:
I'd also like to add that even though I thought the whole episode was brilliant, with new layers added to the Kwons both in their flashbacks and on-island scenes, for me Josh Holloway totally owned this episode. He's gone from excellent to awesome somewhere along the line. Casting agents must be hitting themselves over the head with stupid sticks for having let this guy get away from them. :D

:clapping: to Sheba for putting that moment into words and to Josh for being able to take 5 seconds of screen time and let us see all those emotions and thoughts run across his face, like magic. He's got my vote for emmy nods, lol.
Okay and as far as last nights episode, let me just say IT SO ROCKED!!! Woohoo, Skate brings down the house every time and it just keeps getting better and better, I so cant wait to find out what happens in this mini arc between those two. Sure were in for a hell of a ride :D.
I would also like to welcome Blue Coral to Outkasts!!! Your Outkast #221, and were very happy to have you here. ;)
Also wanted to extend my thanks to The Partyman and Majandra for coming over here and straigtening things out regarding the spoiler stuff. It means alot and I appreciate your help.
And now onto Lisa's fabulous questions:)....
What did you think of tonight's episode? Already said I loved it.:D :heart:That kiss was smokin as Im sure every kiss between Skate will be ;). So much undercurrent over what was said and what wasnt said, and I loved the Sun/Jin/Sayid storyline. Very sad about the Sun/Jin backstory part. Is it just me or does this show need to be like 2 hours long? lol
What was your favorite SKATE moment, since there were several to choose from? Well all of them really, but the one I loved the most was when Sawyer smiled at Kate briefly right after the kiss. His look was reassuring to her and he didnt care that the others were yelling "Hey! Hey!" at him. They were momentarily caught in a bubble all of their own. And Sawyer could have taken those few brief seconds to put his guard up, maybe get his defenses lined out, but he chose to stand there looking Kate in the eye. That kiss said alot to me about how Sawyer feels for Kate.
What was the worst moment (SKATE or otherwise)?Worst Skate moment was when Pickett hit Sawyer in the head with the butt of his rifle. :( That could have caused some serious damage, and because of them, the skate moment although it was heavenly, the blissful part was cut short cause of them. :p
What did you think about all the information Sawyer got so quickly from such a short amount of time?I thought it was amazing. His fighting skills were very impressive, and not only did Sawyer manage to kiss Kate, something I imagine he's been wanting to do, but he used it as a way to feel out where the Others strengths and weaknesses lie, what people like Juliette were willing to do (which I found to be very interesting by the way, cause someone mentioned earlier how humane she had tried to be towards Jack in last weeks epi.) And he was able to give Kate something nice to hang onto. He sacrificed himself, to give her a breather, cause he saw how tired she was and he used it to his advantage. Now if that isnt anti-hero I dont know what it.
How do you think he'll use it? Well hes getting a read on people. Whether Henry likes it or not Sawyer can get inside their heads, almost as easily as they can get inside theirs. Id say Sawyer is a worthy adversary and since Henry is watching all this, the only advantage he has is that he knows this. Unless Henry tries to stage something to provoke Sawyers escape, he has no way of knowing where or when Sawyers gonna try to get them out of there. I think Sawyer will use these things he picked up in his final confrontation with the others in a meeting of the minds. And unlike poor Jack, I dont think Sawyer is gonna take it lying down.
Favorite lines.
Sawyer: (to Pickett after checking Kate out himself) "How dare you!"
Sawyer:"You taste like strawberries
Kate: "You taste like fish biscuits"
Kate:"Why did she call you James?"
General thoughts and observances.
There was so much good commentary in here about the episode and I wish I had time to respond to everything, lol. So much going on, but I was saying in chat last night, that the whole Sawyer/Juliette water scene was very interesting to me because not only did Sawyer play Juliette and get her to give him her water only to display a final act of defiance by tossing it out. The fact that he refused water, lifes essential essence from her proves that he has turned down the Others way of life. Then he goes over to Kate. They are both thirsty, but Kate especially looks beaten down and tired. Then Sawyer kisses Kate after refusing the water (lifes essence) from Juliette. Symbolically, I think this means that Sawyer is saying Kate is his lifes essence and only she can quench his thirst. Which I think she did, and he tried to quench hers. Which I think he did. ;)
Also the behind bars thing is also very symbolic I think. Because I think it represents the walls they put around themselves. Yet in epi one Kate is reaching through the bars to Sawyer. And when they are talking to one another, they are both pressed right up against the metal. Its like they need eachother, and since they cant touch, they are trying to get as close to one another as possible. Just another little thing I noticed. :)
Anyway, still trying to absorb everything, so maybe Ill be back later with more, but for now, just gotta say--Glas Ballerina :clapping:
lisagwilkins 10-12-2006, 04:13 PM Hi y'all!
I've lurked in this thread off and on and have always had a secret desire for Sawyer & Kate to get together. Tonight when they kissed, I swear I heard a CACOPHONY OF SQUEEEEE's from the Skaters!
Uh, that would be me...:biggrin:
Tongue . . . :kiss: :tongue1::kiss:
WOO HOO!!!
Didn't you just love the looks we got before and after the kiss again? Love to see that emotion. :8:
Wasn't there a quote from Kristin, something about "with whom she tangles tongues, is where her heart is hung." Seems to me I remember something like that. :love:
I think a lot of LOST viewers assumed the kiss was merely a distraction technique for Sawyer to gain information considering the conversation Sawyer & Kate had later. But he could have caused a distraction a million other ways, couldn't he? I think he saw his chance to plant one on Kate, while implying to her that it was just a distraction.
I agree that's exactly it, he didn't have to kiss her, he could have jumped some guy, could have thrown a rock, just about anything but he did what he wanted to do, he did what he'd wanted all day and it was just too much for him. He wanted her and he needed and recognized that she needed something that he had to give her. Even thought she wasn't exactly saying, "I need you to kiss me." She wasn't wanting him to stop either. And those lines about not looking at her "tushie" and him saying, "then gimme somethin' else to stare at" were priceless and so telling about how couples deal with each other.
And yes, they are acting like a couple and did you notice Sawyer said, "sooner or later, they goona let they guard, and when they do, you and me gonna put 'em in their place." See, YOU and ME. In his mind she is his equal. And she knows this, which is exactly why she went to him to shoot the others in LTDA and not Jack.
Ok I have never been a big shipper. I used to never care who Kate ends up with.
I've chosen after last nights episode. I was kind of leaning for them by the last season and now it's become clear since last night's eppy.
I am a Skater.
So, can I join the group?
:) :)

You guys blow me away with such insightful discussion. Wowwweeeee.
Squeeee to Sawyer.
lisagwilkins 10-12-2006, 04:36 PM Lisa!!! :hug:Hey darlin! I'm very happy to finally be a Skater. Wow...I feel like I've admitted something huge...like when a person comes out of the closet or something!
Girl you crack me up!!! :biggrin:
Okay Ya'll here's another thought I had...
Now it's a given that we all know that Sawyer and Kate complete each other, right? So I was thinking about that and something came to mind from Shakespeare's Taming of the Shrew, in which of course the main character happens to be Katarina, whom Petruchio happens to call "Kate." Not to mention that these two have been compared to Petruchio and Katarina.
Well as most people know the basic premise is that Katarina needs to be tamed by her arranged husband Petruchio but in reality he's the one who ends up being "tamed" by the "love of a good woman."
Shakespeare even says something extremely telling and amazingly, applies very well here.
"Kate never needed to be tamed, she only needed to be loved. The beauty of loves lies in holding thy mate and thy side, rather than under thy thumb...." Now that is very very telling, y'all, 500 years ago and it's still true.
Hugs,
Lisa ;)
fricksgurl75 10-12-2006, 04:50 PM How can he just stand there being self-satisfied when Kate needs?
:biggrin:
i love that Sheba, CHARGE is right. They way he looked at her, just standing there looking exausted, the sun shining on her, through the thin fabric of the dress, which makes her uncormfortable to wear. I've seen moments like that before, like a revelation of sorts. He could've distracted them any other way, but you could see on his face that he was makig up his mind to just go for it, what the hell right? And he took the time to caress her face with his thumb and smile at her, knowing full well he was about to get blitzed. He kissed her cause he wanted to, and he did want to give her a break, to give her something as well. It was a beautifully shot scene IMO
:biggrin:
LOL Fricks! Totally knew you were going to say that. I was sitting there watching with my hubby and I was like...oohh that's Fricks's team. Hee
of course i would Honey, one of the happiest moments of my life mixed in with a Skate kiss.... :biggrin:
I'd also like to add that even though I thought the whole episode was brilliant, with new layers added to the Kwons both in their flashbacks and on-island scenes, for me Josh Holloway totally owned this episode. He's gone from excellent to awesome somewhere along the line. Casting agents must be hitting themselves over the head with stupid sticks for having let this guy get away from them. :D
I so totally agree Dez , i don't think Josh has gotten nearly enough credit for the great work he's doing here. He has developed and grown so much in this role and brought Sawyer so much life and complexity.. he did own this epi IMO
and Blue Corral welcome to Outkasts, i'm a bit late with the greeting sorry :hug:
Ghost963 10-12-2006, 05:11 PM Hi Blue Corral!!! :wavey: Good to have you here! We're a fairly nice bunch... :wink1:
Blue Coral 10-12-2006, 05:35 PM and Blue Coral welcome to Outkasts, i'm a bit late with the greeting sorry :hug:
Hi Blue Coral!!! :wavey: Good to have you here! We're a fairly nice bunch... :wink1:
Thank you SO much for the welcomes. Makes me feel all fuzzy--like if Sawyer told me I tasted like strawberries:naughty:...:rotflmao2:
:group::hug:I feel all the love!
And I agree. Josh is like the perfect actor for that role and THAT'S the kind of acting that deserves and Emmy but is overlooked.
car88win 10-12-2006, 07:03 PM Welcome Blue Coral!
:clapping: Hope you have a ton of fun here like we do! :kiss:
Zoriah 10-12-2006, 07:10 PM Wow. Just wow. I am so loving everyone's thoughtful, insightful and enthusiastic posts today. We really got handed a perfect skate episode in so many ways, didn't we?
Thank you Icekat for bringing over those snippets from the news media courtesy of Leah Kate. She also posted this one too:
Another review - from the San Diego Union-Tribune. I'll just post the Skatey snippets. The title of the article is "Things start to heat up on 'Lost' as mystery deepens and romance blossoms."
Quote:
"Lost” fans, this was a good one.
Last week's premiere was a downer, focusing on moody Jack (Matthew Fox) and his troubled past. Wednesday's episode, however, brought back the intrigue that hooked viewers during the ABC drama's debut season and deepened the mystery once again.
(It also brought the sexy back. More on that later. And don't read further unless you want to know what happened.)
..................
Meanwhile, Kate (Evangeline Lilly) and Sawyer (Josh Holloway) worked at a labor camp overseen by Others who threatened to shock them with taser-like weapons if they misbehaved.
Sawyer, overcome by how hot Kate looked “swinging that pick-ax,” embraced her in a passionate kiss. The Others pounded (such buzzkills, really). Sawyer got his hands on a gun, but dropped it when Kate's life was threatened.
Back in their separate cages, Sawyer told Kate he planned to circumvent their captors when “they let their guard down.” The all-knowing Ben was observing the whole thing elsewhere on a wall of ancient TV screens.
The media response has just been so positive. I have a feeling more and more people are going to be climbing aboard the Skate train before the six weeks are up. :biggrin:
Oh, and people may have heard about a poll that came out in the Entertainment Weekly? Be not concerned my fellow skaters. It was a poll done on a 100 people waiting outside Radio Music City Hall. Pffft. Probably half of them have never watched the show regularly and the question was probably posed as 'which would you pick the doctor or the con-man' or some other loaded phrasing.
But even so, it doesn't top the Tatortop poll on 'the most chemistry for a couple' where thousands of voters weighed in their opinion and Skate won by a landslide. And which it is said the cast and crew were watching with interest.
Nor does it negate the fact that the PTB have already made their choice for Kate. Episode six has been written, filmed and is in the can. Whatever the outcome is, we shall know in four weeks time.
What did you think of tonight's episode?
Fabulous. Thrilled. Ecstatic that we got more than we could have dreamed of. So many skate moments. The looks. The kiss. The concern. The plan. Strawberries vs Fishbiscuit.
The charge for the kiss. Spurred on by his feelings and sympathy for Kate, and yet also serving a dual purpose of gathering intel for them both to plan an escape.
Oh good lord, the girl had her arms up at his waist, willingly returned the kiss (and very CLEARLY stuck her tongue into his mouth), and was looking pretty dazed in a good way moments after it happened. Then you add in the swelling music and dramatic tension of the Other's springing into action at the sheer audacity of him going against the rules. The PTB made it a big, stirring Indiana Jones/Empire Strikes Back moment.
Did you not see her emotional teary eyed 'so it was just a con, I should have known it didn't mean anything to him' look when he was rattling off his assessment of the guards. She clearly had been affected by the kiss, and wanted confirmation that he had been too.
Which she got when he gave her the strawberry line. Her face just changes into a smile, lights up, and she feels better. But also fragile because of what it cost Sawyer for doing it. The emotional catch/crack in her voice is evident when she tosses back the 'fish biscuit' line. She is invested emotionally in him.
Note also the way she is concerned for him in the beginning of the cage scene. Hunching up against the bars as if she wants to squeeze through them to get to his side. She crouches down and kneels, trying to get to his level, feeling both upset at his pain, and annoyed that he risked so much to get a damned kiss. Or was it more? She sees through his bluster and with one word gets him to open up and level with her. They are on the same page, and she draws strength from his determination and cunning. Regains a bit of spirit at the thought of the looks on the guards faces. "What do we do now?" She realises she's not alone in this. Sawyer: "....you and me are gonna..." He's thinking of them being a unit. A team. Partners in very sense of the term.
A brilliantly written love scene. These guys are a couple, attuned to one another in a way that is growing harder and harder for them both to deny.
And no I don't think it will be smooth sailing. No walks down the beach at sunset holding hands.
Not these two. They are like Han and Leia. He leers, she disapproves. They bicker. He presses, she pushes back. They challenge each other and can be immature about things at times.
But in the end, they have each other's back, and they are on the same page. *shrugs* That cage scene showed them becoming not just Sawyer in captivity, and Kate in captivity, but Sawyer and Kate in captivity and planning to get out - together. There was a shift there.
What was your favorite SKATE moment, since there were several to choose from?
Yes, it's hard for me to decide, so many wonderful moments of emotional connection and just plain sexy fun. I think I liked the James moment the best. Kate asking about something so personal, and him actually dropping his walls and admitting it was his name. Her reaction to that was great. And I'd been waiting with anticipation for that reveal for sometime, so I squeed the loudest at that. :biggrin:
What was the worst moment (SKATE or otherwise)? Seeing that Benry was watching and listening to Sawyer and Kate in the cages. Creepy. Also the death of Jae. :frown:
What did you think about all the information Sawyer got so quickly from such a short amount of time?
I thought it was awesome that we saw a return of the smart Sawyer, who's perceptive and cunning. I loved the deliberate 'dumbing' down act, rather than the actual downplaying of his skills and intelligence in parts of season two. This was a return to the sharp and volatile maverick of seaon one. Nice to see him utilising his 'hood' skills for good, and for him and Kate.
How do you think he'll use it? He'll use it to try and get himself and Kate free. However since Benry is on to him, it may be a disaster and get ugly first.
Bah, I am exhausted. Shall have to get back to you on the other parts. :drowsy: :p
lostinga 10-12-2006, 07:34 PM Great questions Lisa!
I lurk, but I had to make a comment after reading this. Thank you for putting into words why I've loved this pairing from the beginning. Sawyer gets Kate, whether she wants him to or not. He sees her vulnerability, her despair, her turmoil, and he acts on it in whatever way will help her. Squee!
joemamaah 10-12-2006, 07:37 PM A brilliantly written love scene.
. . . and a beautifully written post. I always love reading them, Zoriah.
A new thought, (for me anyways!). Sawyer already has definite opinions of Juliet has already done and what he said she's capable of. Kate does, too.
So when the gang is eventually reunited and Sawyer & Kate see Jack together with Juliet, how do you think Sawyer & Kate will respond?
jennylee27 10-12-2006, 07:38 PM :strawbry::strawbry::strawbry::strawbry::strawbry: :strawbry::strawbry::strawbry::strawbry::strawbry: :strawbry::strawbry:
Hi all! What a wonderful episode! I tried to find a food smiley showing a fish, but I think this is the closest we get to a fish biscuit. lol:
:fish:
Anyway, I haven't done this in a while, but here are the answers to the questions:
What did you think of tonight's episode?
I thought it was very good. Not my absolute favorite (currently Maternity Leave), because it didn't blow me away with surprises and shocks. But the backstory was excellent, there was great island action, and then there was.... SKATE!
What was your favorite SKATE moment, since there were several to choose from?
The kiss was amazing, of course, but I truly dug the little moments between them. Sawyer peeking at Kate while she was working, Kate finally being able to express her concern when they were back in the cages.
What was the worst moment (SKATE or otherwise)?
Jae Lee's death. I felt so sad for him. He was an interesting character, and they have really developed complexity with the Jin/Sun backstory.
What did you think about all the information Sawyer got so quickly from such a short amount of time?
He rocks! Glad he was able to show his stuff. He's a con master.
How do you think he'll use it?
I don't know. I am actually guessing that Ben will not tell his people what he overheard, so he can see how Sawyer and Kate will play it out. I think he and Kate, possibly with Karl and Alex, will formulate an escape plan. But will they include Jack? I don't have a guess at this time.
Zoriah 10-12-2006, 07:42 PM More amazing media reviews rolling in about this latest episode. This was posted by deChantal:
Another media review, this one from the Pop Candy media columnist for USA Today (I'll excerpt and post whole thing in main episode thread):
"Romance, action, the Red Sox -- how awesome was tonight's episode? I had more fun watching this hour than I did watching the season premiere, and it left me feeling much more satisfied. Some quick thoughts:
- Last but not least, how hot was that kiss? It's about time some action developed between those two -- but shame on S&K for not realizing cameras could be watching their every move. "
Moriane 10-12-2006, 08:39 PM Hey Blue Coral! I'm a lurker, mostly; this bunch, while nice, is far too talkative for me to keep up! :lol: But I'm Mori, and along with the rest of us OutKaSts, I'd like to give you a warm welcome! Take a seat and grab a fishbiscuit! Or perhaps you'd prefer some shortcake? :strawbry: :)
Perdue 10-12-2006, 09:11 PM Now that I've rewatched the clips, I think my favorite parts are where Kate calls Sawyer on his cover-up lines and makes him come clean over what he was doing. The look on her face as recognition dawns was wonderful.
And "You taste like fish biscuit" has got to be one of the finest lines ever penned on Lost. Delivered perfectly as well.
Nicely done, LOST!
MidnightSawyerfan 10-12-2006, 09:27 PM Lisa!!! :hug:Hey darlin! I'm very happy to finally be a Skater. Wow...I feel like I've admitted something huge...like when a person comes out of the closet or something!
:laugh: Welcome to OutKaSts from me too Blue Coral :biggrin:
What did you think of tonight's episode?
I haven't actually seen the full epi yet, just the essential not-to-be-missed SKate clips - and I can't wait to see the full episode now - the kiss and cage scenes were fantastic! What great acting too, totally agree that Josh has done some fine Emmy-award winning work here! His face displays so many emotions so well, don't think he'd ever have to speak to get the meaning/his feelings across.
What was your favourite SKATE scene? (edited this question a bit, since I'm only going on two scenes in total)
Loved all the scenes I've seen as usual - however my favourite is the cage scene - love the way the two look at each other as they talk about the kiss & just afterwards too - almost a silent acknowledgement that they connected on some other level, perhaps admitting to themselves that there is more between them too :strawbry: :banana:
Sorry I can't answer the rest of the questions yet Lisa, loving all the answers here now anyway :biggrin: :mushy:
Zoriah 10-12-2006, 09:29 PM This was cute, found by Ginger of LF: http://www.tmz.com/2006/10/12/lost-diary-the-glass-ballerina/#continuedcontents
9:33 -- Is now a good time to ask what the Others are building/digging/trying to find? Actually it isn't, because Sawyer just kissed Kate in a way that made Lauren make a noise I have never heard her make before. After beating down a few Others, Sawyer drops the gun he picked up because Juliet has one pointed at Kate. I don't know what to make of Juliet just yet, but I am leaning towards bad girl at the moment.
9:40 -- Lauren has requested we re-watch the Sawyer/Kate kiss later. She describes the kiss as "very romantic. Hot, sweaty and dirty, but really romantic."
9:53 -- "You taste like fish biscuits" -- Kate. Great conversation here between the two, but one thing stands out and that's Sawyer's assessment of Juliet. I trust him on these matters so I am now strongly of the belief that Juliet is a bad, bad woman. Oh, and Henry Gale was listening the whole time.
Oh and the kiss made it to AOL top five moments of the day, here:
http://television.aol.com/franchise/top5.adp
Be sure to go vote, currently in 2nd place. :)
Okay, now I need to go watch those juicy scenes again. I can't seem to stop bouncing today. Heee!

Dezdemona 10-12-2006, 11:08 PM First of all, I have to say what a delight it was to read all your lovely, insightful and enthusiastic comments. Sheba, your analysis of the kiss scene a few pages back was awesome! I swear, it's taken an effort just to keep my feet on the ground today. I'm just thrilled at how positively the couple are being received, both last week and again today, by the media and by so many non-shippers on Lost boards everywhere! Whee!!!! :biggrin:
I posted a review of sorts in the Skate forum on LF today, which Zoriah suggested I bring over here. (Okay, she threatened me with bodily harm, actually, but what's a threat or two between fellow Skate enthusiasts?) Like all of you, I loved this episode to pieces. See if my conclusions here make any sense to you all.
I think Glass Ballerina is a very important episode, setting up some of the dominant themes of the season and establishing the arc of three of the show's most important characters. As has always been the case in their previous episodes, the Kwons' story serves as a mirror for the Kate/Sawyer story. I think that Jack, OTOH, finds himself in a league of his own.
The 'A' story with the Kwons and Sayid accomplished exactly what it needed to do.
1. It demonstrated the impossibility of a rescue by these three characters and gave them an honorable exit and permission to return to the beach.
2. It removed the sailboat from the equation, which I think was the writers' principal reason for sending them on this mission in the first place. They needed the boat to bring Desmond back into the story, then they needed it gone to avoid story complications. Mission accomplished.
3. Most importantly, it set up some of what I expect to be the season's most significant themes. Secrets and lies. large and small, wove their way through both the flashbacks and the island stories. Sun's betrayal with Jae. Jin's true role in her father's organization. Sun studying English in secret so she could leave him. Jin planning an escape to America for them without her input or consent. Though these two love each other deeply, they continue to lie to each other even now. Sun collaborates with Sayid, and Jin has neglected to tell her he understands a lot more English than she knows.
Every single character in the Glass Ballerina - without exception - is connected to a secret or a lie in within the episode. And that's not even counting the lies they tell themselves.
That brings us to Sawyer and Kate, two people who started with nothing but secrets and lies. After Kate's early discovery of his family tragedy, she adopted the practice of ignoring the shell of cynicism and alienation he's built for himself. There's a human being inside there and she has persisted in trying to find him, despite getting bruised a time or two in the process.
Kate, OTOH, has walled herself inside her own kind of solitude. Sawyer offered his knightly protection back in WTCMB, and she declined. Don't call her a damsel, or tell her she needs you, she'll only have to prove you wrong. Instead, he's learned to ignore the discussion and just act when it's needed. Hence the hug after Libby's death. In GB, he shows a similar decisiveness when Kate is dropping with exhaustion and needs a break. He'll take a beating if he must to get her one, but he gives her a kiss first because he is so filled with tenderness toward her at that moment that he just couldn't resist a minute longer. Amusing that he hid that admission behind a joke that made it seem like a lie when everyone else in the episode is passing off lies for truth. Sawyer's heart is committed, but he's not willing to reveal that yet. Kate, for her part, is learning to know him better in their quiet little corner of the zoo, and she is liking what she sees. Now she knows his name, and yet another secret has fallen away. As a couple, Sawyer and Kate are moving against the current of a central theme, and that's a very interesting place for them to be in the story.
That brings us to Jack because every story needs a hero. Jack begins this episode alone, beaten down by an awareness of his own shortcomings, and without purpose or motivation. Enter Ben, with a mysterious agenda and an enticing offer. Jack is dismissive, having no faith in Ben's ability to deliver on a promise to send him home. Proof is offered, a date-stamped broadcast of a world series game, something even Ben knows is iconic.
What he doesn't know is the personal significance of this most unlikely win to Jack. We watch as Jack first takes in the facts, and then we see him come to the realization of two important and incontrovertible truths. The Others do have contact with the outside world, which could lead to a means of escape for allthe stranded crash survivors; and if the Sox can win the series, then surely hope and persistence can pay off in miracles. That shot is framed brilliantly, with the light from the t.v. screen playing off Jack's features, almost giving him the look of a man experiencing a religious vision. The vision ends with Ben's flick of a button, but the look of determination on Jack's face tells us he has embraced it. The hero will now consecrate himself to finding the means to save them all from exile, a purpose much larger than the concerns of any one man or woman.
Ben is all set to manipulate Jack in any one of several ways, and he even has Kate and Sawyer to use as leverage. However, Jack is already fully committed to his mission. If the Others try to use Kate and/or Sawyer to manipulate him, his only objective will be to exploit their strategy in whatever way might best cement his credibility and help him to infiltrate the Others more quickly and fully. Juliet is the wildcard. What Jack didn't see, and won't see (I suspect) is what Sawyer was able to see. The blood in her veins runs ice cold. Will Jack be taken in by the more appealing portrait she presents when she's with him?
However long it takes until the romantic triangle formed by Jack, Kate and Sawyer is seen to be resolved by the general audience, the course was set for it in the Glass Ballerina. By the end of this episode, Sawyer and Kate have found each other and Jack has found his grail quest.
I think this is top-caliber story telling, and in this instance it was supported by some inspired direction and outstanding performances. The exquisite and delicate glass ballerina slowly spinning to its destruction in the opening shot is later echoed in the tragic suicide of Jae. Jin's desperate reaction to the sight of the boat pulling away on the darkened ocean was so agonizingly similar to their loss of Walt. The World Series footage was a stroke of genius, and used very effectively. A host of wonderful performances by the whole cast, and something extra besides from Josh Holloway, made this one of the strongest episodes in the series to date. I'd give it an A+ without hesitation because, for me, this is as good as television ever gets.
All JMO, of course.

i have no words other than wow... and you managed to bring in my Red Sox..which was btw something that allowed me believe in miracles and think that ANYTHING is possible. Understand as a Red Sox fan that i appreciate that reference and it's meaning exceptionally well. The Sox won the Series, they weren't supposed to, came back from a 0-3 deficet in a best-of-7... the odds were astromonical. I can understand how this would rock Jack's foundations.. it certainly rocked mine. :biggrin:
and i love the whole idea that Kate and Sawyer moving against the story, in their growing closeness and rare honesty with eachoter. Jack has found his cause i believe as well. He'll do what he has to do. And Kate and Sawyer will do what they have to do as well.
lisagwilkins 10-12-2006, 11:52 PM :clap:Dez, my dear, if I live to be 90, I will never ever ever be able to do anything remotely like you just did.
I do bow to the master. :ntworthy:
Darbi 10-13-2006, 12:06 AM What can I add that hasn't already been touched on and articulated so eloquently by several of you?
It's no secret that I'm a big Jin/Sun fan, and since '...in Translation' have I enjoyed their flashback so much. Yunjin and Daniel Dae are an absolute treat to watch, and they bring a beauty and grace to their characters that is nothing short of brilliant. :clap: Bravo to them.
I re-watched the episode today, and came away with the same impression that I did last night. The writers are wisely layering these episodes not only out of necessity, but for dramatic effect. The tone and mood of the show has changed, and I'm not sure if they're doing their best to move as far away from the lack-luster response S2 (the Tallies, the storyline, questionable character development) received as a whole, but if it is...then they're doing a fine job of it so far.
By weaving the "Others" storyline in with the Losties, we are being introduced into their world already in progress. In a sense, we're having to play "catch up", which is fine because hasn't allowed the audience to linger too long on the major questions that are lingering around needing answers to right away. We know they have a long history on the island, there is dissention amongst the ranks. Relationships between those who seem to be in charge have been snided at by "lower" ranking "Others" although their value amongst the camp does appear of importance to the group as a whole. There is also the real sense of fear of the Losties finding the "Others" camp if Benry's response to Juliet is any indication.
It was definitely good to see Sayid back in action. His character was tragically under used last season, and I hope that will be corrected for this season. Although, I must admit I'm a bit miffed as to why every one of Sayid's plans of late have been disasterous and ill-advised. Sayid is a smart, capable, perceptive military man...his lack of a well-thought out plan is beginning to undermind the character. I hope selective intelligence isn't going to become a continuincy pattern from here on out during the series.
Jin and Sun...well, I wish I could say that I was surprised by her infidelity, but I wasn't. I was, however, surprised at that Jin seemed to have a sense of her betrayal and never spoke on it. If we are to parallel their fb to the present and in correlation to Sawyer and Kate's on-island actions, then I fear that Kate may holding a secret of her own from Sawyer. I could be wrong, and I certainly hope I am...but something isn't setting right with me as far as Kate's concerned.
Speaking of S/K...if my fear of a Kate betraying Sawyer is wrong, then it will be a testament to how the writers seem to be wasting little or no time re-establishing their friendship, how they relate to one another, but mostly...moving them forward. Josh, bless his florid delivery heart absolutely owned this episode. Not only did we get elements of early S1, horndog Sawyer, (the eyebrow raise to Kate taking off her dress to work, and his put upon, "How dare you." response to Kate's silent protest against his antics was priceless) we saw aspects of the man he's becoming. I really liked the take charge, althought it put himself in danger to gather intel on the "Others" while simultaneously making an effort to give Kate a much needed break. She looked absolutely miserable swinging that pick axe, and after his defiant move towards Juliet, he couldn't NOT do something to help her.
And boy, when he sets his mind to kissing a woman...good lord does he follow through on it. :thumbsup:
Later, when they're back in their respective cages, it's almost like he senses Kate's going to ask him about what he did, and he already has it set in his mind to try and to blister and avoid her inquiries. Kate, wisely cut rights through his nonsense and he finally breaks down and tells her what he was up to. Although impressed, she seemed a bit disappointed that the kiss, the big display of affection was all just to get info on the "Others" until he tells her she tastes like strawberries. She immediately brightens and teases him by saying he tastes like fishbiscuits. It didn't take much for these two to get in tune to one another, and the writers are using that dynamic chemistry between Josh and Evi to amp up the romance perfectly.
One of the most touching and telling exchanges in the cage conversation was Kate asking Sawyer why Juliet called him James. I expected Sawyer to go on the defensive, but he takes a deep breath and admits that's his name. It could just be me, but I swear there was just a smidgen of guilt mixed with a touch of jealousy to float across Kate's face that this woman...a stranger, an enemy knew his real name and he responded to it. She's heard the name before, but has never regarded him by using it almost like she's been too busy to inquire any further about who he is before now. She beginning to truly see this man for everything he is and isn't. And if her heart wasn't conflicted before now...the "Others" certainly aren't making her plight any easier. Sawyer certainly isn't making things any easier. Personally, I think her heart has already decided, decided a while back, it's her mind that hasn't caught up to this particular information.
It's too bad Benry was listening in on their entire conversation, but I would imagine what he learned changed the way in which he intends to deal with Kate, and Sawyer especially from here on out. Like someone else mentioned up thread, trying to break Sawyer physically isn't working, and he realizes now that he's a lot smarter than he puts on.
One other thing to note, and yes, I realize this is my shipper heart speaking loud and clear. This "love triangle" has been pimped and used so shamelessly to pull in the casual viewer it's almost embarrassing except for the fact that it was or is pure genius marketing wise.
However, in watching Josh and Evi work that special blend of magic that exists simply because they're Josh and Evi, it became apparent to me that it would be a crime to try and continue on with the "love triangle" once Kate makes her decision. Let it go. As actors, they're better than such a trite, lazy storyline...and I'm sorry, I don't care what Juiet's motives are at this point in the show...MF and ME are far too good of actors to be reduced to such a simple storyline, too. They play off one another beautifully, and I'd hate to see that not being utilized to its fullest potential by trying to "force" a particular situation.
Besides, I get the distinct feeling that all of these people will have bigger issues to deal with in the coming season and onward than who beds Kate first, if Sawyer is simply a testing ground for Jack and Kate later. Will Sawyer dilly dally with Juliet at some point, or will Jack go off and bed the hot new Latina chick waiting for Kate to come to her senses and be with him.
Or at least, that's my hope.

You're much too kind. Heh. I'm still in awe of whoever thought of using the Red Sox footage. Talk about a rallying cry for the unflagging pursuit of the impossible dream! That would be true in any context, of course, but with the personal meaning it has for Jack having been established nearly two years ago... it's beyond genius. I would love to know of Damon or Carleton actually had an image of the scene with Ben in mind all the way back there, or is this another product of Drew Goddard's genius for continuity. Perhaps we'll find out in a podcast or DVD commentary. I hope so! :D
I love the way Sawyer and Kate were positioned going against the episode's theme! I cannot wait to see further developments... I hope, in this regard. My spec, based purely on this episode and not on spoilers is that when Kate and Jack do finally reunite in this mini-season, there will be major misunderstandings between them. He will not explain, and she will not guess, his true intentions with regard to staying with the Others. Although I believe that Kate has genuine feelings for Jack, time doesn't stand still. Even now, in his absense she is drawing closer to 'James'. I believe that will only continue for the forseeable future. . If and when, the hero accomplishes his mission and seeks her out again, it will be apparent to them both that their opportunity passed them by. There was never sufficient basis for it to cling to them like some kind of "forever love" because it simply hadn't gone that far. Jack will remain, in her mind, something that "might have been" but simply didn't happen.

no problem Dez :biggrin:
it was pure genius to use the Red Sox footage as a sort of rallying cry for Jack in that sense. This is someone who didn't believe in the miracles, and really does have little faith. I do wonder if they planned it myself.

love that intepretatin there. got a little of my own..i'll spoiler it just in case..
Jack being the Tragic Hero would probably be the one that has to go without, in order work on his quest he must be free of the concerns of the average person. To give up love for the greater good so to speak, like Luke in Star Wars, essentially on his own, what he does is for the good of everyone else and makes sacrifices along the way.(although Leia did turn out to be his sister but that's beside the point here.) I always saw Kate and Sawyer like Leia and Han in the sense that they moved along without Luke, battled it out in the trenches with the enemy and eachother. Luke was always above that, fufflling his role as the tragic hero, as i think Jack will and should be. And seeing as how the writers always refer Sawyer as their version of Han Solo, i might be on something there.. i hope..
something that a girl on another board brought my attention too, props to Kateislost on the Treehouse for bringing this up.. But when Kate asked Sawyer 'why did she call you James?" Sawyer answered with 'cause that's my name" He didn't say it was his name, he said it is his name... Thought that was an interesting point, along with something i realized talking to Lisa on Yahoo.. Sawyer saying 'we're gonna put em in their place', a team in other words, not I, we. Words and their order are very important as we've seen. Those 2 examples can't be an accident.
and Darbi, thought we'd lost you there, finally got off the floor after that epi i guess huh? :biggrin:
Save The Humans 10-13-2006, 12:52 AM He kissed her cause he wanted to, and he did want to give her a break, to give her something as well.
I find it very satisfying that it was JAMES, not Benry, who was able to give Kate "something nice [she] could hold on to" during this time of trial. :biggrin:
You folks are beyond great in your assessments! :clapping:

Zoriah 10-13-2006, 01:58 AM Brilliant posts Dez and Darbi ! I love how you've looked so in depth at the whole episode in your reviews not just the skate elements.
The part about Jack finally finding his grail quest at last, and Kate and Sawyer moving on with their own story is spot on I think.
Spunky at LF did some gorgeous slowed down animations of the kiss. Does anyone know the procedure of bringing them over here? Am I allowed to post a link to the images?
And before you all shoot me I only threatened Dez with :fish: if she didn't bring her lovely post over. ;)
ETA: For those of you who enjoy engaging in theoretical debates and analysis, and who are not shy of the spoiler section, I put up a thread with the title 'Is Kate Conning Sawyer?' (http://www.thefuselage.com/Threaded/showthread.php?t=60180). Some posters are starting to discuss this as a theory, so anyone who has a strong view one way or the other or just wants to take a peek, you're more than welcome. :D
Kristina 10-13-2006, 05:42 AM Wow, I just finished reading all posts, and all I can say is amazing! You have put everything I thougt into words.
I don't have a lot to add, but there are a few things that I just cannot decide what I think about....
First; WHY did he kiss her? Was it purely a way of getting the Others attention? Was it to give Kate a break? Was it a fast oncoming urge? A reaction to her dress (has he ever seen her in a dress before? I can't remember Kate ever wearing a dresson the island). Or was it a way of chearing her up? A combination of all the above or something else? I just cannot make up my mind about it, since he obviously realized what would follow, but on the same time he definately put his heart and mind into it?
Secondly; He is SO letting his guards down, but is she letting hers down as well? I'm starting to feel a bit afraid that he will end up both physically and emotinally hurt..... Please, can anyone convince me that I'm wrong!!!
Well, that's all for now :) But I'm still waiting on the fish biscuit icon :lol:
Oh, and can somone please tell me the exact meaning of the world "shortcake"?
joemamaah 10-13-2006, 06:10 AM Oh, and can somone please tell me the exact meaning of the world "shortcake"?
Hey Kristina,
Shortcake is beter known as "Strawberry shortcake". It's small individually sized yellow sponge cake covered with strawberries mixed with a sweet strawberry glaze. Then it's topped with whipped cream.

Dezdemona 10-13-2006, 09:30 AM Fricks - I love your Star Wars allusion! So fitting, since George Lucas is a huge Joseph Campbell geek and based his story on the classic hero's journey himself.
Lisa - Thank you for you too kind words. :kiss: I don't recall ever writing a whole review before, but it was fun so I might do it again some time.
I've seen a lot of posts, on this board and others, questioning Kate's state of mind, wondering why she didn't make a fight of it in support of Sawyer, speculating that pershaps she's made a deal with the devil to sell him out in some way. I'm not seeing that at all. I think she was just as beat down as Jack appeared to be at the beginning of this episode. Forced to wear the dress, forced to wear the handcuffs, told that the next two weeks would be so unpleasant that she'd need a comforting memory to hold onto, housed in cage like an animal, and then used as slave labor - I think it wore her spirit down so it's no suprise to me that she hasn't seemed like herself. Just like Jack in his first scene, she is feeling powerless and without hope.
I think we also need to take into account the circumstances of the fight. She was caught off guard by Sawyer's kiss, which ended with her being thrown to the ground when Pickett attacked Sawyer. Then, by the time she righted herself and took in what was happening, much less figured out how to help, Juliet would have had her at gun point. Even if she'd been at her sharpest, I don't think she would have had time to react.
The important thing to note, however, is that she (like Jack) had a turning point at the end of the episode. If you watch her face as Sawyer is reeling off all the observations he'd been able to make about their captors' strengths and weaknesses, she is amused, impressed, but most importantly re-engaged. When she comments on the expression on their faces when Sawyer got that rifle, her voice is firm and she sounds like her usual feisty self - as she does again when she asks "What do we do next?" Her powerless damsel phase is over and she's ready now to be a partner in planning their escape. Kudos to Sawyer for doing what was needed to bring her out of her beat down, passive head space, even if he did have to take a beating to get it done.

Go Sawyer!!! Woohoo. He's da man.
Great insight as usual guys. :D Zoriah, Id love to check out that thread, sounds really interesting, but I dont have access. Is it on the spoiler board, or maybe its one of those members only things. Either way, sorry I couldnt get in. Maybe later, I can talk about my ideas on that subject in here. Blue Coral - I love your avi too! That cat is adorable.
I don't think I noticed anyone else mention this, but I kinda scanned this morning instead of totally reading. So, my appoligies if it has been brought up before. I was looking at screencaps last night and I noticed that after Sawyer starts to pull away from the kiss, we get a good look at the expression on Kate's face. It reminds me of the look Sawyer had on his face after their first kiss (walls down, totally open). It really think that's how Kate was feeling after this 2nd kiss. I think it made a nice parallel between the kisses.

ravenmoon 10-13-2006, 12:05 PM Okay, I posted this in Zoriah's spoiler thread, but really it belongs here because it was one of my usual skate rants, I just couldn't get pon this thread at the time lol!
Firstly I would just like to get this out of my system SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I swear I am actually in skate heaven!
This episode defined for me why I like skate (yes I also hate the skate and jate terms, makes me feel like I'm 13 but everyone uses them and they kinds stick after a while) so much. This couple have everything. Humor (the way sawyer looked at her when pickett suggested she take of the dress them the funny way he realisesd that he just wasn't being funny and said "how dare you) banter ("stop looking at my ***!" Which i totally loved btw, not that you can blame him lol) passion (the way he swaggered over to her and just grabbed her was so over the top sexy I almost fell off my chair, and that kiss was just so sweet as well, the way he rubbed his thumbs over her cheeks and the little smile he gave her afterwards, and infact the way he pulled away because he wanted to look at her before his captors forced him off her) tenderness (it was obvious that when he looked at her just before the kiss that not only did he hate the way she looked so exhausted and folorn, like he said I just think that her dressed like that swinging that axe just did it for him lol!)
And that last scene when they were back in the cages, the way she asked if he was alright in a genuinely caring voice. I think that it was obvious that she waited until their captors were out of earshot before she let her guard down and actually asked him how he was doing. This is Kate, she's not overly obvious with her emotions, she never has been when we have seen her on the show towards other people unless their lives were in danger or she percived them to be. For uinstance when she thought jack was dead in the cave in, and when sawyer got brought back after the raft. We don't see big displays of emotion from kate period. She has obvously had to learn to shut herself down emotionally while she was on the run, otherwise tbh, she wouldnt have got very far. So I wouldn't take the idea that just because she isn't runni8ng to his side everyutime he gets hurt (which is often bless him) to be a sign of her not caring, because it would be out of character for her to do so anyway!
I also loved the way she knows him so well. She knows when he's bullcrapting her, and she just can cut right through it. And what's even better is that sawyer knows this, and immediately after she says it explains the ulterior motive why he did it. Again, we're not the writers, we can't know which reason was more important to sawyer to kiss her, whether it was because he was just too damned turned on by her wielding that pick axe, whether he just couldn't stand to see her so forlorn, or whether it was just purely to test out the others. We can't know for sure, but based on what we know of his character I would say all of the above. Of course he is sexually attracted to her, DUH this is skate, they ooze sexual chemistry. To me I also think that it is undeniable he feels much for strongly for her than lust *** well, I believe he loves her, others may not, but there is defibetly more than just lust that engage his feelings. And as for testing out the others, it was just pure sawyer and I LOVED it. This guy is just amazing, so clever and perceptive, and why do you think he WAS testing out the others. Could it be not only to get himself out of this situation but KATE as well?
As for kate's reaction to their little conversation, I love the way the camera deliberately kept panning back to kate when sawyer was talking. The director WANTED us to see her reaction. When they first show her shes thinking "ah I see, thought that that didn't make much sense that he just randomly grabbed me" the second time she was beginning to smile despire herself , she is a mixture of fraustrated that nothing is ever straightforward with him, secretly kinda liking the idea of what he did, and also kinda impressed with the amount he picked up in those few short moments of fighting with them. Then just just looks like she understands what he was feeling as he did it, the way she said "so you could see the look on their faces when he held that rifle" not only did she look vaguly turned on by this, she would have liked to have done that herself, would have done the same thing herself. here was pure understanding between them at that moment and I loved it.
Then the way she just totally turned the ocnversation "why did she call you James?" She askes this in a totally no nonsense I'm not taking any of your crap kind of way, and I think she already kind of guesses what the answer is, she just wants to see if he'll tell her or not, if they might actually be moving beyond their trust issues, even ever so slightly. And our boy nails it! You can see him wrestling with it for a moment, then he just admits defeat and says "cos that's my name." And the look of suprise on her face, i think she half expecting him to give her some more belligerant nonsense, put up his walls again, but he suprised her. he showed her that she just has to ask and he wont hide everything about himself from her. And I'm so glad that she might be beginning to realise this. And I think this is a much bigger step forward for them than the kiss (despire the fact it was sweet and hot!)
Then just comes the icing on the cake. "And I noticed something else too, you tase like strawberries" and damn the way he says strawberries :) Her reaction was just beyond cute, she tried not to smile but gave up and she was obviously pleased. This was REAL, this wasn't like the beginnign of their convosation where she basically told him to cut the crap. He was being sweet for the sake of being sweet. have we ever seen this beofre from sawyer? She was so trying to think back what to say and I loved her reply "yeah, well you taste like fish buiscuits" it is so junior high, they remind me of a couple of teeangers sometimes. But that look she flashed him at the end, she was very pleased with what he had said.
Then just back to buisiness in pure skate womderfulness. These two are on the same wavelength, sawyers told her what he found out, shared it all with her, wants to include her and wants her to help him in his plan. he sees her as a partner (be in partner in crime so to speak or an actualy partner) and that's what I truly love about skate, for better or for worse they are equals.
As for the rest of the episode, I LOVED Sun, and I'm so glad she shot that woman, I was so afraid for her and the baby though, but I thought she was awsome. Nice to see the lovely sayid again as well :) And as for that end bit with Jack...I don't know if I believe them or not. And the fact that he mentioned the Red Sox was obviously not a coincidence either. Those others are just so damned intriging!
As for
Spoiler:
who kate is going to end up choosing, I think the fact that her flashback is going to be about her husband, this wil be very telling and probablly give us the biggest indictation of who she's going to choose. There have been obvious allusions to sam, wayne and tom from her past and jack and sawyer. I wonder which man will be alluded to with this husband and what it will show us about her feelings for the two men. I don't think the choice will come until that episode.
I have to say that the writers sure are promoting skate at the moment. this is for 2 purposes, they are ither giving the skaters some last scenes to hold on to when she chooses jack. Or setting up the jaters for the fact that skte is going to happen, and also bringing up to date the genral non-shipping audience who don't analyse every sentance and look as we shippers do. I know what one I hope is true, but nly time will tell I guess!
Okay end of rant! I just LOVED that episode!
sheba 10-13-2006, 12:12 PM Very cute video find, a2m!
It is so comforting to come in here and read all of your intense scrutiny of every second of Lost. :)
People always look at me like I've gone mad when I get into long descriptions of something that took only a few seconds on screen. :confused: It's always nice to know I can just shut up with those lessor mortals and come here to discuss or just read, to my hearts content. :heart:
QueenElessar 10-13-2006, 12:27 PM I just LOVE reading this thread because everyone gets into so much detail about Skate...and I feel like I can just sit back and nod my head because you guys have already said everything there is to say! :biggrin: :lol2:...which is nice because it allows me to actually get work done at the office....well...occasionally ;)
KatieFord 10-13-2006, 01:28 PM So much to catch up on! My wireless internet crashed halfway through the episode airing, not to mention that my hubby then called to pick him up from a late nite at work ... but it was going to be fine, 'cos i was already taping Lost for him ... but then the last 15 min of the eppy didn't tape! Grrr...that's okay, I saw all the Skatey bits :biggrin:
Okay outkasters,
Here we go!!!
Tonight's questions...
What did you think of tonight's episode?
What was your favorite SKATE moment, since there were several to choose from?
What was the worst moment (SKATE or otherwise)?
What did you think about all the information Sawyer got so quickly from such a short amount of time?
How do you think he'll use it?
Feel free to come up with more your own...
Come on folks, let's get those answers comin'...
Huggs,
Lisa
Oooh, good questions ... I'll have to come back to them when my baby's sleeping ...
strawberry banana the official ice cream flavor of Skate now, what do ya all thnk of that? :biggrin:
Served with Strawberry Shortcake? :biggrin: :strawbry:!
Dez! Well put as usual ;) I could watch that scene over and over.
Loved it.
I was totally squeeeeeeeeeeeeing during all those lines! And hubby just looked at me: :rolleyes: :confused: :undecide: .
Hehe, Im still getting a huge kick out of all he was able to accomplish with one kiss. ;)
Go Sawyer!!! Woohoo. He's da man.
Oh and here's a Skate banner I made last week. Wish I had some place to use it though.:undecide:

Girlspy, it's lovely!!!!
Darbi 10-13-2006, 01:41 PM Fricks - I love your Star Wars allusion!
Interesting analysis, Dez.
I hadn't really compared Kate's headspace and demeanor to Jack's and how beaten down they both were until they were given something that gave them hope.
Like you mentioned, Kate seemed to regain some of her feistiness when Sawyer explained his actions behind the kiss. She seemed re-engaged after her comment about Sawyer obtaining the rifle. She was proud of him, and the fight he still has despite her loosing hers momentarily. Sawyer adding in that he enjoyed their kiss went a ways in helping Kate out of her funk and initial disappointment that he was simply running another con. ;) The events of 'TLC' were only a few weeks prior, and trust betweeb them is still scarce. For Jack, Benry showing him the Red Sox's world series win over St. Louis was a stroke of genius. It was exactly what he needed in giving him new hope in regards to their dismal situation where neither felt in control.
More than anything, I hope Kate isn't running her own con on Sawyer because the effects of her deception I'm certain will be disasterous, perhaps even irreversible for Sawyer. Despite his efforts, his heart is all in regarding Kate. He may not be able to say it with words, and may never say it, but his actions are speaking clearly, and he's not making it a secret anymore. He's doing what he feels he needs to do to help them both.
There's one other thing I forgot to mention in my initial review. Denny (Danny) and Colleen. In a lesser vein, their connection paralleled Sun/Jin as well as Sawyer and Kate. Within that short, nearly wordless exchange...the writers demonstrated their connection and protectiveness of one another and their efforts to console the other. It should be interesting to see how Sun shooting (And how bad arse was she in that scene, huh? Go Sun!) Colleen will effect Benry's interest in team Kwon. (I like that term :biggrin: ) Something tells me that Jin's and perhaps Sun's involvement with Mr. Kwon's organization may have an interesting connection to either Dharma or Hanso. At least I hope it does. I've been wondering how the writers intended to involve their storyline in with the over arcing storyline, and this is a fantastic way to introduce them with a great deal of mystery and intrigue.
Also...and this didn't dawn on me until this morning but, isn't it just like these two to get into a tiff about Sawyer acting like a teenage boy by staring at Kate' arse like they were in their own backyard breaking up rocks and were looking for half an excuse to throw down their tools to jump each other in a sweaty, horny heap. :laughing: It tickles me to no end that they can act like naive, over-sexed fifteen year olds and an old married couple all at once.
I love it. :kiss1:

emmadoggy 10-13-2006, 04:32 PM Wow, I haven't had a chance to go back and read the previous pages, just this one, but Dez and Darbi - excellent posts. Girlspy, I LOVE your banner. And Honeypoppy, that little clip is great! :cool:
The only thing I can add is that I think this thread has the MOST PERCEPTIVE posters anywhere. The comments, analysis, and predictions here are the most spot on of any I read. Seriously, some of the interpretations and theories and leaps of logic that I see from some viewers of this show just boggle my mind! :rolleyes:
Maybe it's just that we are all of like mind, so we see things the same way ;) but I really think that we have some folks here in this thread that really have a clear vision of what's going on.
This was a fantastic episode and Sawyer stole the show. And it doesn't seem to be only women who are ga-ga over him - I read a really great post by a guy who said that Sawyer was just flat out cool in this epi and he can certainly see why the women swoon.
This was a many layered epi and it covered a lot of ground - we had the Jin/Sun flashbacks, the Jin/Sun/Sayid stuff, the Skate stuff, and some stuff with Jack. And there were some really cool revelations provided.
Again, I just have to say, what a fantastic character these writers have made in Sawyer. He is just so deep, complex, fascinating, and most of all, FUN to watch!! He's one of my all time favorite characters ever. And he and Kate are just an incredible pair together. They work on so many levels.
Darn, and now I can't find who it was who gave the Star Wars analogy. That is so spot on - I can totally see them in that Han/Leia/Luke formula. Fits perfectly - for all three of them.
As for favorite moments, well, I don't have time to list them all - they are basically the same as everyone else's. But there are SO many good lines in this epi to choose from.
The strawberries and fishbiscuits line will live in infamy, I'm sure.
Loved the "how dare you" exchange.
"Chain-gang looks goood on you, Freckles." mmmmmm, loved the way he said that.
LOVED just watching him, watching her a** every time her dress hoisted up as she swung the pick-axe. Talk about your steamy, sexy innuendo (or maybe not just innuendo ;) )
Loved the Shortcake comment - so sweet and classic Sawyer.
Loved the expression on his face after he dumped the water and then walked over and saw Kate practically falling over from exhaustion. And how you could just see his mind cooking up his plan.
Loved the way he grabbed her and swept her into the kiss.
Loved the way he rubbed his thumbs on her face.
Loved the expressions on both their faces right as he ended the kiss (before he got clobbered).
Ok, I said I couldn't list them all so I better stop!! :biggrin:
All I can say now is - MORE PLEASE!!!!! :essen:
SawyersGirl88 10-13-2006, 04:44 PM We just got a new cable box with tivo, so I've been watching this last epi over and over! The non-verbal exchanges between Sawyer and Juliet, and Sawyer and Kate are beyond words! Simply ineffable. :love:

Once again ladies, Im wowed by the analysis. And like QE, think nobody in here misses a beat, just like Sawyer :D. So keep up the great work. I cant wait to here what else people come up with. ;)
P.S. Thanks for the banner and avi complis ladies. Glad you liked. :)
Darbi 10-13-2006, 05:30 PM There's something I can't seem to wrap my brain around that I hope someone can help me with.
Although I understand why Kate and Sawyer would ask about Jack, Kate's expression before she stated that she wasn't going to work until she saw him gave me the impression that she was testing Denny (Danny) or was it Pickett? :confused: if he would truly use that taser on her. She knew what Sawyer was doing in irritating the guy with his, "Got a question, boss." Hee Hee! "Shot? Don't we get a warning first?" so the guy could show him what they planned to use to keep them in control.
I just found it odd, but maybe there really wasn't more to it than her being naturally curious, and unsure her minor protest would draw their anger. (shrug)
Am I looking for a conspiracy when there isn't one?

I sent that inspiring "Kiss Me" video to my sister and just got this response from her ...
"OMG! You are EVIL!!! How could you send me something like that when my husband is out of town?!?!?!?!?!?!?!"
heeheehee
:biggrin:
car88win 10-13-2006, 07:23 PM Hee, should have her check out the rest of them then. ;) As long as he's out of town of course.
A point I want to make. There is no basis in fact to say that SKate or any pairing there of is the reason for the ratings to be dropping. No series can keep the numbers up that constantly. I don't expect it to be the next CSI (Vegas not NY or that Miami thing) but it holds its own and does pretty well considering what it is competing with. I'm kind of surprised by the talk that SKate is THE reason for the ratings slump. Um, I think they had numbers that dropped a little bit last season and it was all someone else's "show".
mangopie 10-13-2006, 07:28 PM where did you read this car88win? If anything I would think Skate would improve the ratings. People I've talked to think this season is smokin' hott! And they're not even a Lost freak like me!

Just an FYI...the ratings for the Glass Ballerina were higher than all of the second half of Season 2. No doubt they lost people thanks to the Hatch, the extreme Fanboy plotlines and Ana Lucia, but I think as word gets out that Season 3 some will come back...heck, some already did judging by the ratings these last two weeks. But some are gone for good there are several people I know who gave up during Season 2 and now feel they missed too much to jump back on.
And anyone blaming the Kiss for the fall in ratings have their own agenda, I wouldn't pay attention to that propaganda. You can't blame Skate seeing as it hasn't really happened yet. We can make the same arguement...the LOOK at the end of Season 2 was so Jatey that people assumed Jate was going to happen and didn't come back to the show.
Lost as killer ratings...The Glass Ballerina will be ranked in the top 4 this week - most shows would kill for that.
Perdue 10-13-2006, 08:01 PM And LOST was number 1 for Wednesdays in the coveted age 18-49 audience which counts for a lot.

Spot on lostrocks. My feelings exactly. I think it be a joke that blame now is being used for everything that isn't going one's way.
Let's change the subject, shall we?!
I'm off to collect more vids for the collection, can't have enough!
It was a great ep. NOT just because of the kiss. Sun, Jin, Jae and Sayid - they all kicked butt in this ep. I'm so thrilled to see Sun get her guns going !! :flex:

Zoriah 10-13-2006, 08:17 PM Dez just wrote the most amazing post over at LF. I am going to bring it here because really that girl deserves some major praise for her absolutely insightful and inspiring posts. Every time I read her thoughts I am reminded of why I love this ship and love this show so much.
I know some people are a little nervous about the idea that Kate might be deceiving Sawyer or conning him into falling in love (as part of some nefarious bargain with Benry). Well, I suggest you read below and allow yourselves to set your mind and your heart at ease :kiss: :biggrin: :
Okay, one last stab at clearing up the whole quesion of what's been going on with Kate because as far as I'm concerned we can put this persistent question down to some crap lighting in that cage conversation scene, and nothing more. Lots of questions on the board about why she didn't help Sawyer in that fight and spec about whether she's sold him out, and I think it's all misinterpretation.
At the beginniing of the episode, Jack is shown as listless and hopless and nobody's thinking HE's made a deal with the devil. He's just been beaten down by the circumstances of his captivity. However, by the end of the episode he's got a look of determination on his face because he's found something to hang his hopes on. The Others DO have contact with the outside world, and he's going to work on figuring out how that could be used to get his group rescued. He's got a purpose again.
I think that all we're seeing in Kate is what we saw in Jack, she has been beaten down by the circumstances of their captivity. Forced to wear the dress, forced to wear the handcuffs, told that the next two weeks would be so unpleasant that she'd need a comforting memory to hold onto, housed in cage like an animal, and then used as slave labor - I think it wore her spirit down, so I'm not surprised she hasn't seemed like herself. Just like Jack in his first scene, she is feeling powerless and without hope.
As an aside, I think we also need to take into account the circumstances of the fight. She was caught off guard by Sawyer's kiss, which ended with her being thrown to the ground when Pickett attacked Sawyer. Then, by the time she righted herself and took in what was happening, much less figured out how to help, Juliet would have had her at gun point. Even it she'd been at her sharpest, I don't think she would have had time to react.
The important thing to note, however, is that she (like Jack) had a turning point at the end of the episode. If you watch her face as Sawyer is reeling off all the observations he'd been able to make about their captors' strengths and weaknesses, she is amused, impressed, but most importantly re-engaged. When she comments on the expression on their faces when Sawyer got that rifle, her voice is firm and she sounds more like her feisty self - as she does again when she asks "What do we do next?" Her powerless damsel phase is over and she's ready now to be a partner in planning their escape. Kudos to Sawyer for doing what was needed to bring her out of her beat down, passive head space, even if he did have to take a beating to get it done because the timing and the conscious symbolism for that kiss - and the fight he knew would follow - was all about waking up his sleeping beauty who'd been mentally and physically beaten into submission and he just couldn't stand to see her like that for one more minute!
Any questions? ;)
*Sings* Love is in the air...
Dez, thank you for putting it so beautifully once again. :ntworthy:
sheba 10-13-2006, 08:30 PM Reprieve
An act of sheer defiance
Determined not to flinch
He was waiting for a mile
They could have their inch
He didn't need the water
He'd suffered greater thirst
This situation might be bad
But not, by far, the worst
That boyish grin crept to his lips
His eyes flashed with delight
He tipped the canteen upside down
Without a hint of fright
He tossed it, empty, back at them
He turned with satisfaction
At once, he saw Kate waning there
And and cursed his quick reaction
How could he have not thought of her
She, who held his heart
Surely she could use a drink
She seemed about to break apart
Had she seen his foolishness?
She was faced the other way
Was there nothing he could do for her?
Nothing he could say?
With his options limited
He didn't think for long
He knew it would be costly
But he knew he was strong
Throwing caution to the wind
Not caring what they saw
Resolved to pay whatever price
He didn't hem or haw
He quickly covered every inch
Dividing him from her
He scooped her face into his hands
And she did not demur
And then he gave her everything
All he had to give
A kiss to lift her spirits
And give her cause to live
No matter they were captives
Their souls were on a spree
The Others, they could have the rest
In that moment they were free

Another forum. It's more just wishful thinking in that area. But, as you said, everyone I know that watches it, loves Sawyer and Kate and even the strawberries/fishcuits. Corny, yeah, cute, hell yes.
Oh, and magopie, you can call me car. They all do. :kiss: vroom vroom!

mangopie 10-13-2006, 08:44 PM I had my screen name changed. It was etrainor15 and now it is obviously mangopie. Mangopie has been one of my email addresses and screen names since I was 17, it's from a Phish song, but it fits here good I think.

LottaMoxie 10-14-2006, 12:25 AM Greetings Fellow Skaters!
I couldn't get on the site for the last couple of days--kept getting server errors. Anyway, thanks for the update on the "Kiss Me" video. How HOT was that? It's giving me Sawyergasms! :biggrin:
I placed clips of all the Glass Ballerina Skate scenes on YouTube. Don't know if I'm allowed to provide links here or not, so if you just search on YouTube.com on my username "LottaMoxie" you'll find them all.
My brain has been marinating in all the romance and passion from this last episode.
I just loved how Sawyer was checking out Kate's assets...standing there gawking away. Oh he might see Kate as "cute" but in THAT scene...'cute' wasn't the word. He saw her as one sexy woman. Clearly that dress is having all kinds of effects on him, not to mention how high it goes up in back when Kate is bending over. hehehe.
The mixture of horndog/leering Sawyer with tender/caring Sawyer is working well for this Skate fan. And his take-charge action in making that kiss happen...now THAT'S a man who knows what he wants and is bound and determined to get it!
My only criticism of that scene is that the kiss simply wasn't long enough. Let's hope future scenes will rectify that!
I don't know what his line "you taste like strawberries" really means (can't be literal) but his delivery of that line, along with his "just couldn't help myself, you looked so damn cute swinging that pick axe" was really alllll I needed anyway. His voice, the inflection, the intonation. Gaaaaaaahhhhh. I'm a goner, plain and simple.
Save The Humans 10-14-2006, 12:50 AM :sob: Sheba, that poem was beautiful!
Those of you who are interested in ratings and program schedules and why shows are/aren't watched, there is a great thread on the Lost Talk board, "Lost slipping in the ratings," that you'd enjoy reading. Maybe even give us your thoughts on the subjects!
A good romance is the LAST thing that would cause any show to slip in the ratings, though--so those posters in that other forum are NUTS, car! In fact, I'd tell the idiot who made that suggestion, "How DARE you?!" :D
Now--off to find a recipe for shortcake made from Splenda, not sugar (I'm diabetic). Then get the strawberries and packet of sugar-free whipped cream (yes, it exists), and PIG OUT! :biggrin:
lisagwilkins 10-14-2006, 03:52 AM Okay my dear outkasters...
Shebs you darlin', that poem was perfect, elloquent as always...I bow to the master!!
I had to make a new video and it's all about the kisses...Season 1 and Season 3, with some more Skate scenes thrown in for good measure...I hope you enjoy...I've used the song before, but this time it was more fitting than it was before.

Hang on for Chapter 7 y'all, that means you STH, it's coming and I think you'll like it...
G'night y'all...I'll see ya tomorrow.
Huggs,
Lisa ;)
fricksgurl75 10-14-2006, 03:55 AM There's something I can't seem to wrap my brain around that I hope someone can help me with.
I'm sure Kate is really worried about Jack in the sense of wanting to know what happened to him but like you i think it was an act of defiance, she figured they would come hurt HER, didn't realize that Pickett was gonna hurt Sawyer instead. I think Kate was testing her limit there and both she and Sawyer are probably very curious about where Jack is so she voiced it. And Sawyer got tasered as a result. Which to me is interesting symbolicly in the fact that Kate asks about Jack, and Sawyer gets hurt. Tell me there isn't some meaning in that.
Tarhiliel updated her Kiss Me video.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4iO8H4kQ6HQ (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4iO8H4kQ6HQ)
wow... that man really knows how to kiss.. made me feel all funny inside watching that...:biggrin:
Hee, should have her check out the rest of them then. ;) As long as he's out of town of course.
The reason for the decline? Most likely the meanderiing storyline, the lack of continuity, the focus on the Tail Section surviors and just an overall downturn from the season before. Besides most shows have trouble in the Sophmore Season, but the good ones usually rebound in the 3rd. And if the ratings are any indication for the first 2 i think they are doing righting the ship so to speak.
Anyone blaming the decline on Skate is realy reaching there, a decline is usually simply par for the course and usually has little to do with romantic aspects. Things just got to complicated last year that's all.
And Dez, another brilliant post per usual, such genius and it's on our side :biggrin:
Save The Humans 10-14-2006, 06:12 AM Nice video, Lisa! Hopefully, the one good thing that comes from captivity is that they realize that the one thing they can't--and shouldn't--run from is each other! :love:
I know it will be awhile, but when do you think Kate and James have their first conversation with each other after he "wins" her in the card game? We talking Chapter 10? 11? 12? I get more anxious with every passing chapter! :book:
ravenmoon 10-14-2006, 08:34 AM Hey there Outkasters!
I swear I am still on a high from all the skatiness from the last eppy.
For me, my favourite moment has got to be when she asked him "why did she call you James?" I definetly think she was testing him, she knows that sawyer isn't his real name, she heard Locke call him it twice last season, I think she probablly guessed then but didn't bring it up. She figures if he wanmts to tell her he will in his own time, just like he does with her.
But this time it was different. They are in captivity now and the stakes are higher. They may never get out of these cages, never get back to their camp. And at the moment ALL they have got is each other. I think they both know that now there is no time for games. Any minute their captors coupld come and separate them again.
She directly asked him because she wanted proof that this different and increasingly frequent side to sawyer was something that marks a change in him, and admitting something like that to her woukd show her that in some ways he is ready to be open and honest about his past and his feelings for her. And HE DOES TELL HER!!!!!!!!!!! I was like "oh please sawyer just TELL her" and he did. And I think that THAT will be a massive thing for kate to consider, that he is actually letting her in.
Of course with the kiss he isn't going to tell her he did it because she looked so drained and exhausted and miserable. That would be discussing his feelings for her and I don't think that is something her is ready for quite yet. But I am so glad that she has kissed him again, because by the way they boht got into that kiss, it was very emotionally charged, rather than downright hot and suprising like the first one. And let's hope kate is perceptive enough to pick up his obvious feelings for her in that kiss.
I have been thinking about
Sawyer impending torture in eppy 4. In what context do we think it will be? What do we think Kate's reaction will be? Will it force her to admit her feelings for him?
Great vids by the way! I could just watch that kiss all day!
Save The Humans 10-14-2006, 09:28 AM She directly asked him because she wanted proof that this different and increasingly frequent side to sawyer was something that marks a change in him, and admitting something like that to her would show her that in some ways he is ready to be open and honest about his past and his feelings for her. YES! That's EXACTLY it! Way to say it, ravenmoon! :clap:
I literally gasped when he actually admitted that James was his name! That was a big step forward for him, personally, too. He'd rejected that name by age 19, as that of someone whose life he had not liked, whose experiences he had not liked, who he did NOT want to be. Of course, dumping the name didn't really get rid of the person he was, though he added the Sawyer persona on to it. He literally flinched every time someone mentioned that name to him (Locke, the Aussie police detective). It PAINED him to hear it.
But from the battle raging on his face, ending with him admitting that it WAS his name, I'd say he's decided that he's gonna have to accept James as well as Sawyer. It won't be an easy process, to be sure. But if he still had that letter, I'll bet he COULD burn it now! :biggrin:
Wonder if we'll be hearing more "James" this season. It does seem to be what The Others have decided to call him. Will he get accustomed enough to it so that, if Kate or Jack called him "James" now and then, he could accept it? That would be an interesting transition to watch!
As for
the torture in Eppy 4, it COULD be cuz they were caught escaping. Or it COULD be that Ben just has him tortured for planning an escape, as overheard by Ben in the last eppy! If the latter, it would underscore, IMHO, just how important James and Kate are to him and The Others--that even mention of escaping is a threat! And believe you me, they ARE important to him! Hope we get a clue as to WHY in Eppy 4!
ravenmoon 10-14-2006, 10:10 AM Aww thanks STH :)
It was just the best skate moment ever for me! Something we have always wanted him to admit to gher, and I think the empahsis the writers have put on thse two sides to his character, the James vs sawyer, to have kate now know this as a FACT is massive step in the right direction for skate in my eyes. She was so shocked when he told her and I loved it. But he didn't really give her time t qwuestion him more about it because it delivers probablly thwe sweetest ever sawyer line "I learned something else too, you taste like strawberries" which btw people WAS HIM BEING SWEET! Not an allusion to kate actually eating the srawberries 23 days ago that ben ofeered her which also means she betraying him and making a deal! I have read that so much and its just so strange that epople think she would still tast like strawberries after 2 days lol!

Wonderful observation, STH about the James vs Sawyer conflict that will always be a part of this character...thankfully. At times, I would imagine it will be difficult to watch his struggle, but it will be nothing short of brilliant and necessary for the character. I can't wait to see JH do what he's done so well in portraying Sawyer/James emotions with his facial and body language. Something he does almost better than he does with actual dialogue.
Btw, did anyone notice the parallel between Benry confessing to Jack what his real name was to open up a level of trust, and Sawyer confessing to Kate that his real name was James? Nice touch. Boy was this episode layered...I love it. Keep it coming writers...keep it coming. :thumbsup:
Dezdemona 10-14-2006, 11:35 AM Fricksgirl - And Dez, another brilliant post per usual, such genius and it's on our side :biggrin:
You're waaaayyy too kind, but thank you. :blshing1:
Sheba - Beautiful poem! It would take me a week to write a decent limerick, so I'm mucho impressed! :sweety:
Lisa - Awesome video! I never get tired of looking at those two. Thanks! :kiss:
Ravenmoon and STH - Great observations about the significance of "James" being willing to fess up to Kate about his name. We've been waiting for that so long, and I share your enthusiasm! :thumbup:
Darbi - You're a genius for catching the link between Ben offering his real name to Jack and James revealing his to Kate. I thought Ben's little intro to that, explaining his reasons to Jack, seemed overlong and a bit contrived at the time. I never made the connection, and I haven't seen it remarked on anywhere either, but it's obvious now that you've pointed it out. Layered episode indeed! You're brilliant!!! :clapping:
Is it Wednesday yet? :happy_bounce:

Raven i love that scene too, it's getting close to tops on my list as well. We've wanted Kate to ask the James question for awhile now, and to finally have him acknowledge it to her, telling her it is his name, not that it was his name. The admission was so important, a moment of honesty that i absolutly love. No defense put up, just came right out and admitted it.
And that scene was Sawyer's special brand of sweetness. Saying that she 'tasted like strawberries' was a way for him to tell her that it did mean something and wasn't just a mere distraction technique. That he enjoyed the kiss, which cause her to respond in kind. I've heard it said that this exchange was stupid and pointless but it wasn't. It's normal and healthy to acknowledge and/or talk about things like that. They've done that with both their kisses. They have no issues there, no need to run or hide froom the fact that they are clearly attracted to one another. The only issues are with the deeper feelings, but it seems like some emotional walls are coming down here too. It's amazing that it takes them being kept apart from eachother for those things to come out. And the one time they touch is when he kisses her, the only time actually. How about that for beauty huh? :biggrin:

Fricks, I have to say that while those comments about tasting like strawberries and fishbiscuits might be considered a bit mushy on the one hand, it is actually perfectly normal for most people to talk like this at times when they're with people they really like/fancy/love I think. I know there's no way I'd talk like that normally, but I think I'd appreciate hearing something like that if I really liked the guy I was with, just like Kate! ;)
Finally, I'm really sad to have to depart this thread & site for some time, but I'm heading on hols tomorrow and I'm not sure if or when I'll get to a computer to check in here while away - will miss reading all your posts but will be thinking of you all when watching Lost for the next 2 weeks! Fricks, hope you like it in this country and have a good hol!

Dezdemona 10-14-2006, 07:15 PM ... Sawyer's special brand of sweetness."
Perfect description, Fricks. :)
That was just his way of saying he found her kisses sweet. And she flirted right back. If she'd wanted to shut him down, her response would have been more like the sharp-toned, "Sawyer!" she came out with earlier when he was telling her he couldn't resist kissing her because she just looked so damned cute swinging that pick axe and she wanted him to be serious.
New promo for episode 3:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pBFX8y-Rb4s
Looks like they're flirting... again. The groupings in Locke's vision may only represent their actual locations, but it's another step along the road to having the audience see them as a couple. I love it! :D
And don't they both look gorgeous in that airport scene? :)
Luanne 10-14-2006, 07:32 PM Perfect description, Fricks. :)

Nice promo
What I find interesting about that promo is that Locke doesn't know if Jack/Kate/Sawyer are together, but in that vision he see's Jack alone and Sawyer and Kate together, flirting and looking like a couple and that is exactly how they are now.
Angela12 10-14-2006, 10:25 PM I think that Sawyer is getting Kate's phone number in that picture... he seems to have a cell phone in his hand. :D
Zoriah 10-15-2006, 12:22 AM I think his 'strawberries' line was one of those obvious lies you tell your other half, a flirty statement that you know isn't true because one would taste like fish biscuit and lack of brushing for the past few days!! Heh.
It was just so cute, and she was flattered and amused by it, and her bantering reply was perfect. So typical of their snarky back and forth which is always golden.
I love the idea that Dez brought up that Sawyer's kiss was a way of 'waking up' his sleeping beauty. Just as Evi said Kate was doing in WKD. I lovely parallel. It was great to see the fire and determination coming back into her eyes in that final cage scene. I hope we see less of the listless, giving up Kate, and more of the 'we're gonna beat the Others at their own game and get out of here' Kate.
My ideal scenario would have Kate being very active in orchestrating an escape in her centric sixth episode. Can you imagine HER taking charge and using her cunning to make sure Sawyer finally gets out (since it looks like he's going to be tortured in ep 4) and perhaps also trying to save Jack in the process? I mean she doesn't seem the type to leave either men behind, since she cares about both. :)

And there's also a 3rd one with entirely new footage, Here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fnmroA-7uls&eurl=).
Both are big-time spoiler-heavy, so be warned! :smile:
I'm excited by the promos, because I was assuming that we wouldn't see any footage of Sawyer/Kate and Jack in episode 3...but it looks like there is at least a little bit!
Save The Humans 10-15-2006, 01:04 PM STH :hug: IceKat!!
The "hunter Locke" promo is good. But that THIRD promo!
Loved that "They'll be all right--for now" with Claire, Charlie, and Aaron! And that he can't help J/J/K "yet." Knowing the story line, I know that the one who needs John's help is gonna be Eko. But that promo! KEWL!
I really like your Jacket avi. After Eppy 1, I was in love with Juliet. After Eppy 2, I wasn't so sure about her. I'll have to see her in more eppys before I can solidify where I stand. But she'd be good for Jack--no pushover, her!
Skate is looking awfully good now, though, aren't they? :biggrin:

Darbi 10-15-2006, 03:59 PM I was just thinking about Sawyer kissing Kate in 'GB', and although his reasons were two-fold, giving Kate a break along with trying to get her head back in the game, and gathering intel on the "Others", but could their responses..."You taste like strawberries", "You taste like fishbiscuits." have a double meaning?
Like, strawberries are wild, sweet, and considered a forbidden fruit or sorts. I think. And although I've never heard of fishbiscuits before, they were Sawyer's prize for figuring out the complicated gizmo within his cage. Sawyer's prize, Kate's forbidden, wild fruit.
:shrug:

I gotta agree. . .
It's a beautiful day! A beautiful week!
sheba 10-15-2006, 05:23 PM good grief! Tha 'Lage is slow today.
I am being left with waaaaaay too much time on my hands.
Some might say that Jate is fate
But I believe that fate is SKate
And furthermore, SKate is great!
Nothing else can make us wait
The way we do, to see our SKate
Clearly it's the heavyweight
Of TV romance. No debate
Kate is Sawyer's true soulmate
She's all he wants upon his plate
And even in her weakened state
He can quicken her heart rate
So here's to SKate and Skate and SKate!
She was meant to be his mate
Won't it be cute when they procreate?

lol,I love that!!!:redface: and it's all true:)
Darbi 10-15-2006, 05:35 PM Darbi - You're a genius for catching the link between Ben offering his real name to Jack and James revealing his to Kate.
Aww...you're too kind. Medicated, yes. Brilliant...eh. ;)
But on a lesser vein, I hadn't really thought about Jin finally telling Sun and Sayid that he knew they were setting up a trap, that he undertands English better than they both knew perhaps correlating with Benry and James confessions.
Just in case....
The events of 'GB' could be used to set up Sawyer's upcoming episode very well. If you think about it, the "Others" have yet to "deal" with Sawyer on an intellectual level, at least not yet. From the moment they led Sawyer and Kate out of their cages, Sawyer was taking inventory of their situation, and the people around them. He used his "skills" so to speak to gain information. He was a pain in the arse, defiant and combative...everything he knows pisses people off to no end because it's a distractor. He has to know that the "Others" are observing them, and aren't going to give them any answers simply because they ask. He's already tried that, so he needs to figure out another way to get answers...and yes, that means using Kate in the process. And hey...he got to share a hot kiss with the woman he loves, and it hopefully pulled her out of her funk.
Also, if (and I hate to keep bringing this up, but it's necessary) Sawyer is at all suspicious of Kate, and if she's been compromised, then what's to follow will allow him to find out one way or another. It could be that he doesn't care, and just wants to get everyone out of there safely, but it could also be a set up to some later angst between the two. If this current path the writers are on is to unite S/K, then I don't expect it to be a smooth ride, nor do I believe they won't have a major argument where a number of issues are aired and dealt with. Sana incident for one, and if Kate has done something along the lines of betrayal towards Sawyer...that too.
We'll have to wait and see...
sheba 10-15-2006, 05:37 PM lol,I love that!!!:redface: and it's all true:)
thank you. :)
I am bored to distraction and that can be a dangerous thing. LOL
and no one is responding to my new theory in the spoiler theories forum ... :sob: ... of course, that's probably because I sound like a lunatic ... but still ... :crybaby:
eta: Darbi, I think you are spot on in your spoiler tagged comments. :)
Ghost963 10-15-2006, 05:43 PM Darbi- you raise several very good points. One of the biggest questions I've had since Glass Ballerina is wonder exactly how much the Other's know. Yes, they know their names, histories, and overall a lot of fun facts about our captives, but do they know what Sawyer is capable of? Obviously Ben was watching and listening in on Sawyer and Kate, but why would he have to do that if he knew enough about them to know what Sawyer was doing with his delicious and overall amazing distraction (sorry, give me a moment to *SQUEEEEEEE*!!!! Alright, I'm back).
Just a thought on this slow day off of mine. Hope all you beautiful people are having a good day!!

Zoriah 10-15-2006, 05:52 PM Okay Sheba, you've inspired me to write a silly verse of my own. :biggrin:
Forsooth, what blasphemous vapors doth grace our weary eye?
Tis Jate you say? No, sir, you jest. Turning a truth into a lie.
For Freckled fair the maiden be, and full of love for one cast from her common element.
Not heaven nor earth can move her heart towards the other gent.
Fire calls to fire, the flames spiralling brighter and with more heat,
than if watery tears of shame and judgment fall ever at her feet.
Choose well, dark lass, and tempered steel shall have your back.
A more fitting metal than the cold unyielding iron of Jack.
car88win 10-15-2006, 05:54 PM Z, you know some of us are gonna need a dictionary....;) But that was really a good jousting reply. Sheba, the challenge is afoot! It's like dueling poetry.

Darbi 10-15-2006, 05:58 PM Nice poem, Zoriah. :clap:
sheba 10-15-2006, 06:01 PM The gauntlet has been thrown you say?
Mince words for jest? For fun? For Play?
Tis SKate which ultimately holds the sway
And makes our hearts light on Wednesday
Wouldn't have it any other way
If only they'd roll in the hay!
Perdue 10-15-2006, 06:01 PM Foresooth, thou dost present the case for Skate so well, fair Zoriah.
girlspy15 10-15-2006, 06:09 PM :roflmao: Haha, you ladies kill me. Sheebs, that poem was brilliant, and Zoriah, likewise my dear. I must say they bring out the best in us dont they? lol.
And Darbi, great points. I love that comparison between the name thing with Ben and Sawyer. And I also found it very curious in the different ways they have chosen to treat our 3 captives. In fact I dont think Sawyer has been talked to by one of the higher ups about why he is there once. He's just been ordered to work. Im wondering if they infact know that they most likely wont get very far with Sawyer in discussion anyway, so they arent bothering or they want to use Kate to lower his defenses. I think Kate is the only one of the 3 they have been honest to in all of this. Hopefully it wont lead to a betrayal, but I wont rule that out as a possibility. Especially if they are using Sawyer as a bartering tool for Kate. Very interesting though.
Im also curious in epi 4 when Sawyer gets tortured if its because of one of his acts of defiance in order to teach him a lesson, or the others had planned to do it all along and wanted to wait for the moment when they thought he was most vulnerable. I too want to know how much they know and the source of their intel.
As usual, far too little information, too many questions and no answers, lol.
Oh and ofcourse...
I had to squee about the new Kristin spoilers, lol. Like our Skate motto, sometimes a duck is just a duck, and I hope that rings true for Skate. ;) I know it wont be easy for them by any means, but Id rather watch them anyday, whether it be loving or fighting :D.
Hope you all are having a great weekend Skaters. Wednesday is just around the corner. :)

Thanks guys, it's not hard to be inspired when Sheba and the awesomeness of Skate are such great muses.
Perdue 10-15-2006, 06:19 PM No matter what sort of relationship Sawyer and Kate end up having, you can bet Kate will be saying "Sawyer" with that sort of sharp angle in her voice that she used in the cage after he said, "Chain gang looks good on you, Freckles" for the rest of the ride.
Unless, since she now knows his real name, she starts saying "James" with that same sort of sharp angle.
car88win 10-15-2006, 06:22 PM I love it! You guys are so quick with it!
lisagwilkins 10-15-2006, 06:47 PM Okay my dear OutKaSters
I have spoken with girlspy15 and have volunteered to set up OutKaSts #6. So that means we need to come up with a name for #6, so let's decide what we should call it. I like the idea of A Beautiful Mess (which is a great Diamond Rio song too).
So we need to start deciding on the new name soon...so let's come up with some.

See now Shebs you were doin' fine until you got to "roll in the hay"...that one made me stop breathin' again...

Zoriah 10-15-2006, 10:45 PM Okay this one is a lot sillier, but inspired by the first cage scene in the premiere:
What ragged beast stalks in yonder cage,
with wild eye and distempered ire,
forced to play games and stifle his rage,
at undergoing trials by fire?
The conman Sawyer rails against his fate,
determined to his hunger abate.
The 'beast' lets out a whoop of joy,
having gained at last his hard won prize.
But soon his gaze is torn from his fish shaped toy,
to the weeping girl with terror glazed eyes.
His own sweet Kate return'd but worse for wear,
led by her captors down the rough-hewn stair.
An irreverent air our swain does take,
jeering and sniping at the Other Zeke,
to gain his Freckles a moment's peace,
from the nightmare which threatens to overtake.
Holding back tears, Kate tries not to show,
how distressed she is, just how brought low.
Alone at last Sawyer drops his ruse,
and with gentle humour tries to bring her ease,
aware he is that her spirit is bruis'd,
her hope is shattered, all this he sees.
No strength to lend her but his meager meal,
He gives it up still, with uncommon zeal.
Sawyer's will is strong and shall buoy them both,
until such time they can throw off the yoke.
His loving eyes linger on the forlorn waif,
silently vowing to keep his precious Freckles safe.

Zoriah - Oh my goodness! I want to paint the picture to illustrate your poem when it's published!
Perdue 10-15-2006, 11:55 PM Very sweet, Z. A nice way to end the night.
Save The Humans 10-16-2006, 01:49 AM Kewl poetry, folks!
Kristen: Thank you! I'm so glad to hear that. And of course there's more kissing. Who can resist fish biscuit breath?!
That was a very funny one-liner, Kristen!
Even without spoilers, I can sense that it's gonna get worse for our duo before it gets better, though! :sob:
Still think of the kiss (who doesn't? :D), and loving how, for those precious few moments, everything went away for them--except each other! Classic romantic scene, in the unlikeliest place for romance! :wub:

I don't remember who suggested it but I kind of liked "Shortcake and Fishbiscuits" :)
Or something along those lines, because I just LOVED that part of the S/K conversation :lol: And I'm still waiting for us to get a fishbiscuit icon, or at least a fish icon...... ;)
Save The Humans 10-16-2006, 06:55 AM I don't remember who suggested it but I kind of liked "Shortcake and Fishbiscuits" :)
:blshing1:
That was me, Kristina. Thanks for the compliment!
If you're happy with A Beautiful Mess, Lisa, it's a good name and you should go with it. I just wanted to suggest an alternative. :hug:
lisagwilkins 10-16-2006, 09:34 AM I like "A Beautiful Mess" too STH, and I'll probably use that but I wanted to see if anyone liked anything else before we go with that...I'll leave it like it is for a while and see how close we get to 250 pages before we need to set up the new one, before I do anything about it...
So any way y'all, let me know if you come up with something other than "A Beautiful Mess".
Huggs,
Lisa ;)
joemamaah 10-16-2006, 09:55 AM My ideal scenario would have Kate being very active in orchestrating an escape in her centric sixth episode. Can you imagine HER taking charge and using her cunning to make sure Sawyer finally gets out (since it looks like he's going to be tortured in ep 4) and perhaps also trying to save Jack in the process? I mean she doesn't seem the type to leave either men behind, since she cares about both. :)
I'm not sure if this thought is elsewhere on the Fuse, but Zoriah's idea made me think that the spoiler that says that Sawyer is out-conned simply means that Kate's con is what gets them rescued instead of Sawyer's plan. Sawyer is out-conned! So then the out-conning is not a strike against Sawyer as the spoiler implies.
Apologies if my sudden insight here is already elsewhere. ;)
Blue Coral 10-16-2006, 10:16 AM I'll go with any name thrown out there! But just for laughs I love OutKaSts #6: We're Strawberries on Top :rotflmao2:
I love all the poems! I've been inspired! Here I go, hope ya'll like it!
(in the tune of Georgie Porgie)
Shortcake, Shortcake,
Strawberries and pie,
Sawyer kissed his girl Kate,
And made Jack cry,
When the others came out to fight,
Sawyer fought back and Kate sighed.
Ok the end wasn't supposed to rhyme, but you guys get the jist of it. :lol: :happy_bounce:
girlspy15 10-16-2006, 10:19 AM My vote is for Fishbiscuts and Strawberries: A Beautiful Mess
why not combine them? ;)
Anyway, Joe,
I think your onto something. Ive been thinking that Kate has something up her sleeve for awhile now. Theres definately something shes not telling, and it could be that. And not a con persay, but a bargain she makes with the others to get them out.
I also have been thinking about the Sawyer torture scene and have been questioning now, whether or not they torture him to punish Kate?
Just a thought anyway.
eta: great poems Zoriah and Blue Coral, very noble contributions indeed. ;)

I'm hoping that what Kate is up to is a con simply because that spoiler says Sawyer will be outconned, and I'd rather it be hers instead of Ben's. Hence the torture scene.
I could easily see Sawyer getting tortured to punish Kate. It happened already with the 1/4 charge zap.
I also wonder if Sawyer's torture could be Danny taking out his grief on Sawyer. Sawyer wouldn't have to say much to trigger it!
IceKat55 10-16-2006, 12:10 PM My vote is for Fishbiscuts and Strawberries: A Beautiful Mess

BRILLIANT, and utterly perfect!! :biggrin:
ravenmoon 10-16-2006, 01:11 PM Hey guys!
I LOVE that title girlspy! I think its perfect!
I was thinking earlier about the fact that sawyer and kate are behind seperate bars, unable to touch or be near each other, and if this could be a possible reason for the new openess between them. To a certain extent they are safe from each other physically. They don't have to worry about the other walking away or the potential for anything further to happen between them, as in moent thorught the first two seasons there are instances where one could have easily kissed the other but bhasn't.
At the moment all they can do is talk to each other because they can't touch each other, and I think this is forcing them to be more open with each other. And it is also interesting to think that the first time they are put in the same space, not separated by bars, only the threat of physicalo harm, Sawyer braves it because he CAN and doesn't know whether he will be able to again for a while!
I think he is definetly opening himself up to her in the way she has always wanted. Hopefully any doubts she may have with the intentions of his feelings for her will soon be quenched in the next few episodes, and suddenly nsawyer will no longer become the man she is unsure of, but the man she KNOWS loves her and will do anything in his power to make her happy!
Just a little thought I was having :)
As for the new promos
That locke hallucination thing was totally cool! And again I loved the way sawyer and kate were together whilst jack was by himself. Could just be forshadowing the situation atm in captivity, OR in pure Lost style they are telling us something;)
Loved the other one about how Locke The Hunter is back! It's about bloody time!
As for those kristen spoilers, I still don't trust that woman at all, but ye4s, agaihn it looks very good for us!

Do you ever put a lot of effort into a post that you think is clever ... then a short time later have it dawn on you that other posters (whose opinions you value) will read it and think "Good God! What on earth is wrong with her!" ?
I had one of those moments last night. I posted a long post in the *Who WILL Kate choose?* thread. I was responding to a post which I had interpreted as being from someone who was not really interested in shipper issues and was confused by the uproar over Kate's choice. I recognized the name as one I had seen before and enjoyed their posts, but I could not connect the name to anything in particular.
I was very pleased with my response, which was very balanced and didn't take sides. A short time later, I went to bed.
After lying in my bed for a time, it hit me like a brick ... :eek1: :shock1: ... I connected the name ... to OutKaSts ! :doh: :doh: :doh:
It was Perdue !!!!! :shy: :msn-oh: :yikes:
I am such an idiot!
I jumped out of bed like the house was on fire ... ran to my computer, looked up the thread and deleted my post before everyone on the 'Lage saw it.:blushing:
I am sooooo embarrassed, and I want to offer my apologies to Perdue for failing to recognize her properly. Being the graceful person she is, she didn't call me on it. She could have easily posted something to expose me for the nitwit I am, but she didn't.
I really do need to get better with names. :redface:

Okay outkasters, how about this for the name of the new ship...
OutKaSts #6: Strawberries and Fishbiscuits: A Beautiful Mess
I think our girlspy15 came up with that...
All those in favor?
Huggs,
Lisa ;)
Zoriah 10-16-2006, 03:21 PM I love that because then we get to keep Darbi's a beautiful mess, which I think really describes our two so well.

Dezdemona 10-16-2006, 04:27 PM I was on vacation for two weeks, so today's been hectic at work. I stopped by the office of a colleague who I know is a Skate fan to see how she's been liking the show this season, and I swear I spent 10 minutes straight laughing so hard my sides hurt. It seems that she and two colleagues who are also fans of Skate (which I didn't know about) were chatting excitedly about the show during their noon-hour Pilates class last Thursday here at the college where we work. Obviously, there was a lot to be excited about after last week's show. So today, Andrea and Robin were doing a replay of their discussion during class, with lots of OMG!s and "soooo cool" and they explained that, while they were talking about it, and they were all so excited about the kiss and everything, other women in the class started asking questions. So apparently the girls gave them a resume of the main events in the history of Skate, and all the background on their respective tragedies....... By the time they were done briefing their class, four other women were saying they would have to check out this show! So that was my Skate fix for today since I didn't have time to even peek into the boards till a few minutes ago. :biggrin:
Found a lovely bit at LF. The TV guide is out for the week of episode 4.
The Highlights for Wednesday, October 25th include the Bonnie & Clyde photo of Kate and Sawyer, with the following written on the photo: "Sawyer and Kate are one of Lost's big draws."
The blurb on the that page reads as follows:
"She's as beautiful as Bonnie, he's as cunning as Clyde, but caged killer couple Kate and Sawyer's hope for a Barrow-style getaway are bashed. Desmond meanwhile gets handy when he takes a cue from Gilligan's professor and starts making some kind of device. "
Also quoting LK's post:
ETA: Also, the little inset description from the front of the magazine in the "Hot List" feature reads "After three seasons, Sawyer's still one of TV's coolest bad boys. Tonight's flashbacks should help anyone who doesn't know how that's possible." And there's another pic of Sawyer. There's also the cover pic of Josh from the front of the mag in the letters section - so I count three pics of him, so far.
I love how much "love" the media is showing this couple this year!
Zoriah 10-16-2006, 04:38 PM About the TV guide for episode 4:
Wow that is just so wonderful. I love the way that the media is jumping on board with this ship being the new hot romantic duo. And it's fantastic to see people reiterating that just because Sawyer's in love, doesn't mean he won't stay cool, and a bad boy with an edge. This guy is complex sweetheart! Anyone who can be gazing tenderly at someone, sharing a hot kiss with her, caressing her face etc one moment and then engaged in a massive brawl and come up trumps with a rifle in his possession the next moment ain't getting soft any time soon.:biggrin:
Perdue 10-16-2006, 04:41 PM Lisa, I vote for Strawberries and Fishcuits: A Beautiful Mess. Perfect! And thanks for taking this on.
addicted2much 10-16-2006, 05:32 PM Hello, :wavey:
Love the poetry in the thread. I tried to write a poem, where Sawyer told Kate she was his Venus , but it wasn't as romantic as I wanted. :laughing:
Zoriah 10-16-2006, 05:47 PM Thanks a2m, awwh I want to read it now! :hug:
Hehe I just had to post this. A skater friend of mine from another board was having fun writing out the subtext for that cage scene in GB from Kate's point of view. It's both hilarious and dead on accurate as far as I am concerned :biggrin: :
“What in the hell were you thinking?”
You are an even bigger jerk and horn dog than I ever thought you were to risk a kiss when you knew you were going to get the living daylights tazered out of you. But I am concerned and I really would like to know what was going on in that head of yours.
“I couldn’t help myself. You just looked so damn cute swinging that pick axe. Chain gang looks good on you, Freckles.”
Yeah, yeah, right.
“Sawyer!”
Cut the crap.
“Two of those guards got some real fight in them. Rest of them I’m not that worried about.”
Ah, so it wasn’t just hormonal stupidity after all.
“Heavy set guy packs a hellova punch.”
You sly dog. So that’s what you were doing. Damn, you’re good.
“Kid has martial arts training, but I think I could take him if I had to.”
I underestimated you, Sawyer. You’re a lot smarter and a lot more savvy than I thought. I’m getting a little turned on here.
“Did you see the look on your faces when you got aholda that rifle?”
You’re getting more attractive to me by the moment. I do like a man who can handle his rifle.
“That blond…woulda shot you. No problem.”
Crap.
“Why’d she call you James?”
“Coz that’s my name.”
Hmmm…this guy is definitely NOT what he seems.
“You taste like strawberries.”
“You taste like fish biscuit.”
Okay, he’s got me. Now I'm getting all weak in the loins over this big jerk. Okay, must focus.
What are we going to do?
(Bats eyes because still feeling rather weak in the nether region.)

Do you ever put a lot of effort into a post that you think is clever ... then a short time later have it dawn on you that other posters (whose opinions you value) will read it and think "Good God! What on earth is wrong with her!" ?
Every . . . single . . . day.
No! I saw that last night and thought you were brilliant in how you handled it. There was no reason for criticism from anybody.
losttvfan 10-16-2006, 06:14 PM About the TV guide for episode 4:
Wow that is just so wonderful. I love the way that the media is jumping on board with this ship being the new hot romantic duo. And it's fantastic to see people reiterating that just because Sawyer's in love, doesn't mean he won't stay cool, and a bad boy with an edge. This guy is complex sweetheart! Anyone who can be gazing tenderly at someone, sharing a hot kiss with her, caressing her face etc one moment and then engaged in a massive brawl and come up trumps with a rifle in his possession the next moment ain't getting soft any time soon.:biggrin:
:shesaid: TV Guide does love Josh!
Tim McGraw said it well "I may be a real bad boy...but baby, I'm a real good man!"
Lisa: I vote for Strawberries and Fishbiscuits: A Beautiful Mess. It's perfect!
Perdue 10-16-2006, 06:50 PM Posted this over at the Jater couch as well.
Got a question: Would you want to know right now how the triangle is going to work out or would you rather go along for the ride, no matter what happens? (And I know some of you already are certain of the outcome, so this is really for those who aren't positive.)
I'm torn. I'd like it over with, but I am enjoying the ride!

The ride!! absolutely the ride! If we end up being let down, we can't deny it was a thrill!
Ghost963 10-16-2006, 07:15 PM ::raises hand:: I vote for that title!! It's ingenious!
oh and Dez- I've had many a Lost recaps with my co-workers and my favorite is when customers come in and jump on board with the whole thing. Good times. Lost is one of those things that reminds us that the world is actually a bit smaller than we give it credit to be. I mean, look at this board. We all know each other and we're from several different corners of the globe. It really is a beautiful thing... :wink1:
The ride!! absolutely the ride! If we end up being let down, we can't deny it was a thrill!
Agree! The ride was fun and even if hell freezes over and it doesn't turn out the way that we want, we can't deny that it was fun :smile:
Zoriah 10-16-2006, 07:17 PM :shesaid: TV Guide does love Josh!
Tim McGraw said it well "I may be a real bad boy...but baby, I'm a real good man!"
Hehe I love that quote and it fits Sawyer totally!
The media seems to be lapping up the taking the romance angle up a notch this season. Every time I read a reference to Han/Leia, or Rhett/Scarlett (Lost with the Wind), or Bonnie and Clyde (that pic from LTDA being milked for all of its worth) in tandem with our couple it just warms me old shipper heart.
Regarding the TVGuide stuff:
Notice they are really selling the partnered outlaws idea. Killer couple. Gorgeous Bonnie to his Cunning Clyde. They're gonna be a team, and are fast heading towards being a classic hot TV couple (not just in looks, but how they interact and spark off each other). I can imagine in a few years time people will be referring to some new ship on a new show and say ' Like Sawyer and Kate from Lost'. Can you imagine how cool that would be?
This pairing has been building and growing steadily for over two years now. I am over the moon that this couple are finally getting the media hype and excitement brewing that they deserve. The PTB certainly know how to build momentum and have the courage to make a firm decision and run with it, full steam ahead.
Judging by rumours, spoilers and latest comments by the media, it would appear that Sawyer is not gonna suddenly become some sappy toothless hero. He's gonna still be kickass and be an annoying insensitive jerk. But there's no denying the fact that knowing Kate has had a profound effect on his psyche. I can't wait to see what develops next.

absolutly Zoriah i always believed that he didn't have to lose his bad boy persona just cause he loves her. In fact i hated the attitude that him loving someone would make him wearker, more wussy or something. I don't think loving someone makes you weak, it makes you stronger, cause your still capable of it. And i thnk that makes his character more complex and compelling, he can still be that insensitve jerk, and a tough guy and love her all the same. There's been quite a few rogues who remained that way even though they loved a woman with all their heart. Rhett Butler and Han Solo come to mind now don't they? :biggrin:
As far as the question Perdue..
I would like to see a resoulution to that triangle, even though the ride has been fantastic, i think it's time to let it go..
Zoriah 10-17-2006, 12:57 AM Here's a great season 3 vid made from the first two eps. I like how they juxtapose the stories of Sawyer/Kate, Jack/Juliet and Sun/Jin. Not the best quality clips but just a great use of a song in the context of the show.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nwqVM4SD5Jg&NR
Hey Fricksgurl75, heh I don't think we have to worry at all about Sawyer losing his edge anytime soon. The powers that be love their epic adventuring tales like Star Wars and Indiana Jones. They will keep Sawyer as the charismatic self centred wisecracking anti-hero, and Jack as the more moral, upstanding cerebral hero with a destiny. However wouldn't it be amazing if....spoiler speculation follows:
Sawyer and Kate manage to escape and are unable to save Jack (either because they can't rescue him, or he is unwilling to leave just yet (in case the Others do somehow have the means to save them all) and the couple return to the beach and find everything in a shambles with Sayid fighting with Nikki and Paolo over leadership and somehow Sawyer and Kate end up having to step up and become co-leaders to try and go get Jack back. That would be an interesting development for our two outlaws to handle.
Perdue 10-17-2006, 01:03 AM I am very ready to have the triangle over and done with. And I think that tonight at least, if someone could come and hand me the definitive script that shows who Kate chooses, I'd grab it out of their hands so fast sparks would fly. LOL.
Zoriah 10-17-2006, 02:03 AM Gregg Nations answered one of Lyly's questions from the VIP board, and I thought I'd bring over the part about Kate, because I think it helps explain her state of mind in that first cage scene:
http://www.thefuselage.com/Threaded/showthread.php?t=60609 (warning there are light spoilers in there)
"When Kate cries, I would think of it more as everything overwhelming her. She's not a character that likes being trapped, handcuffed and in a cage. If you were to imagine her trying to rip the handcuffs off and trying to escape, you wouldn't be far from the mark. And realizing she couldn't run, and then seeing Sawyer in the same condition, was probably the thing that pushed her over the edge. I'd probably cry at much less."
He also gave this minor spoiler:
Yes, you will see the significance of Ben's surveillance on Kate and Sawyer.
TRoss 10-17-2006, 02:17 AM Interesting response from Gregg there - I was wondering why she was crying like that too.
Is it as he says? She was just overwhelmed? Or is he trying to mislead us? Hmm . . .

Save The Humans 10-17-2006, 02:51 AM OutKaSts #6: Strawberries and Fishbiscuits: A Beautiful Mess
PERFECT!! :jump:
As for Gregg's reply, I read it earlier. I am both reassured by his viewpoint (it DOES make sense!) and highly skeptical (he IS paid to dodge and weave and misinform). But I would be delighted if there was nothing more to the time between breakfast and cage than that! Please? :63:
I've grown more confident about a Skate resolution. But I'm :sob:, because I just KNOW they are going to go thru hell before they reach it! Still, I'm starting to believe that theirs is one story line TPTB will resolve by the end of Eppy 6.
I am now convinced--by the events of the first two eppys alone!--that Skate's Adventures In Otherville will play out over the rest of the season. So I'm uncomfy with you folks' thinking they'll be free and back at beach camp by the end of Eppy 6. You won't be too crushed if/when you find that to not be true, right? I hate to see posters hurting! :frown:
ETA: Lisa, I just LOVED it! I can hardly wait to see James win Kate's :heart:!! Thank you so much for getting that chapter up! :hug:
Dezdemona 10-17-2006, 09:16 AM Would love to respond to everyone's posts and would REALLY like to watch those videos! No time right now, so that will have to wait. I just wanted to say how thrilled I am with Greg's answers because, frankly, I didn't think he would answer those shipper-oriented ones.
As for the complaint that Sawyer is better alone and being the bad guy, shades of "Spike is only interesting if he's evil." Well, at least Sawyer has a soul so we're ahead of the game there. LOL! As for Sawyer-in-love necessarily losing his edge, I don't see that at all. It didn't make Han Solo any less interesting, IMO, and Sawyer seems to be cut from the same cloth... mercenary, self-interested, alientated by choice, but when the chips are down he comes through and does the right thing... just as Sawyer has been shown to do many times. I'm really looking forward to the rest of this season! :biggrin:
girlspy15 10-17-2006, 11:09 AM Yey, Lisa, cant wait to see our new beautiful ship up and running. I know youll do us proud as hostess. :D

Hehe good question Perdue. And Id say for most things on the show, Id chose the ride, as hard as it is to beleive I like the element of surprise. But as far as the triangles concerned, it has been hashed, rehashed and pounded into the ground, and for my own peace of mind I think I want to know asap whats gonna happen there. Not only cause it involves 2 of my favorite characters, but I want to see resolution. Just so I can breathe again, lol.
Regarding the TVGuide stuff:

ITA, Zoriah...
I totally think Josh can pull off the romance angle while still being an insensitive jerk, lol. Can you just imagine the fights those two would have and then theres the fun of making up. ;) I think its just a matter of them both deciding its worthwhile to stick to the committment of being a couple and working out their problems, lol. Something I think is probably a foreign concept to both of them. But you have to admit, it would be a hell of a ride to watch that.
And I love the notion that the PTB would take a chance on a couple like Skate. I really can see them as one of those epic tv couples as well. And it shows alot of guts and integrity to take the road less traveled. And I think the payoff will be ten fold. Still not out of the woods yet and they have a long way to go, but I think it would totally be worth it. I am so crossing my fingers that Skates gonna happen now. :D.

TTYL Skaters. Happy Lost Eve Day! :)
ravenmoon 10-17-2006, 11:40 AM Oooh good question Perdue, I think I would have to wait and see how it all pans out, but only because
we know she makes a choice in the next 4 weeks. If we didn't know that I think I would definetly want to know. But I know if she chooses Jack it would ruin the skate scenes I know we are at least going to get up to eppy 4, and I guess whatever happens we have these scenes to hold on to!
As for the TV guide stuff
I love how they are being compared to Bonnie and Clyde! A relationship between those two will never be dull, and sawyers charactrer will certainly never go soft, thats the beauty of their pairing.
The reason I love this pairing so much is because its never going to just be walks down the beach gazing lovingly into each others eyes for them, they ARE the "killer couple" and I love the idea of if they became a couple them acting like a kick *** team! Which I believe they do already anyway
Duffy 10-17-2006, 11:56 AM As for the complaint that Sawyer is better alone and being the bad guy, shades of "Spike is only interesting if he's evil." Well, at least Sawyer has a soul so we're ahead of the game there. LOL! As for Sawyer-in-love necessarily losing his edge, I don't see that at all. I don't even think that question about Sawyer was being asked honestly. The truth is, onscreen, the only change we've seen in Sawyer so far is a few doe eyed looks. He's being sarcastic, he's still leering at Kate's butt, he's still taking no crap and he just had about his most kick*** scene of the whole series! He went from a look of defiance (to Juliet) to one of sympathy and love (at Kate) to determination to a big hot kiss to a look of tenderness to a total commando attack on five guys - all in the same three minute scene!
I think the frustration of some fans is making them see a wimpishness to Sawyer-in-love that (like so many shipper opinions) simply doesn't reflect what we've been shown onscreen. I don't think Sawyer is one drop less Sawyeresque than he's ever been. If anything, he's looking hotter and badder than ever. I think people who are looking for a permanently Bad Sawyer are really wishing for a sidelined Sawyer. The only direction that kind of character could go is to be an outlaw within the story, exiled from the community at some point and not attached to any of the main characters. It's one way to go with him, but not the way that uses even a tenth of the character's potential, or his appeal to the fans.
Blue Coral 10-17-2006, 12:36 PM Wow, well said Duffy!:clapping: You took the words right out of my mouth. I couldn't have said it better.
Perdue 10-17-2006, 12:40 PM I think people who are looking for a permanently Bad Sawyer are really wishing for a sidelined Sawyer.
I agree. Because a permanently Bad Sawyer means a Sawyer who has no character development and ergo has no real function in the plot beyond a certain comic relief. Permanently Bad Sawyer can be dismissed, killed off or removed, no problem. But a Sawyer who changes is a differen story.
Blue Coral 10-17-2006, 12:43 PM Yes, a "Bad Sawyer" would be one-dimensional. No love interest, just bad boy, "Ooh, I'm gonna kick your booty." There's no interest in character like that! After all, he is human and has real human emotions.
He is extremely attached to Kate and that's part of his persona. And people who want a one-sided Sawyer just don't care.
angel_rock 10-17-2006, 12:43 PM ooh can't wait for the next ep of lost...that kiss was the hottest kiss i have ever seen
IceKat55 10-17-2006, 12:54 PM I don't even think that question about Sawyer was being asked honestly. The truth is, onscreen, the only change we've seen in Sawyer so far is a few doe eyed looks. He's being sarcastic, he's still leering at Kate's butt, he's still taking no crap and he just had about his most kick*** scene of the whole series! Josh most certainly has range!!
He has said in the past that he's worried about Sawyer's character going "soft" and getting mushy, but I think he can put those fears to rest. TPTB clearly aren't going to let that happen...they've proved it, in these first two episodes. As you said, he can go from a doe-eyed look of love, passionate kiss and sweet smile with Kate, to a snarling, "BACK OFF!!", AK-47 wielding tough guy in the blink of an eye. IMO, that is brilliant storytelling, and an even more brilliant delivery on Josh's part.
And Kate isn't the type of girl who's ever going to cause Sawyer to go completely "soft", either. She herself is too wild. Her commenting "Did you see the look on their faces when you got ahold of that rifle?", the wry smile and the ensuing spark in her eye, simply confirmed what we already know...she was DIGGING commando!Sawyer, and maybe more than a little turned on! If anything, I can see them making each other fiercer, in protective-mode of the other, versus any "bad guys" they come across. "If you touched a hair on her head..." - - kinda says it all...
No denyin'...Kate IS the perfect Bonnie to Sawyer's Clyde. :cool:
Perdue 10-17-2006, 12:56 PM ...she was DIGGING commando!Sawyer
That's certainly how I saw it.
Duffy 10-17-2006, 01:04 PM That's certainly how I saw it.
Oh, me too. It's so funny that all the analysis of Kate during that exchange - how her face changed when he told about the plan, did she really taste like strawberries, was she flirting or being buddy-buddy, etc. etc. - no one seemed to make much mention of her face when she got all hot about him picking up the gun. There was definitely a glimpse of the real Kate at that second. Kate likes guns, she's got her own violent streak, and she is attracted to the wildness in Sawyer. She was totally proud of him there, and even the TWOP guy picked up how it was turning her on.
I can't understand how people can ship Kate with anyone, yet want to see her as some kind of pure (or in the process of becoming purified) damsel. What's with the moral judgment? She's a freakin killer! Not to mention a felon on about twelve other levels - assault with a deadly weapon, attempted murder, bank robbery, fleeing the scene of a crime, assaulting an officer of the law, arson, insurance fraud! Yikes!
But then I'm similarly baffled by people who want to see a "mature, healthy, adult" love story on a show like this. If that's entertaining to someone, they should watch Seventh Heaven or something. This show doesn't have any mature, healthy adults on it!
Perdue 10-17-2006, 01:08 PM This show doesn't have any mature, healthy adults on it!
:shesaid: So far Aaron is the most mature of the lot. At least he acts his age consistently.
KatieFord 10-17-2006, 02:31 PM I love everyone's indepth analysis (analyses? heh, heh...) of this Ship ... I can always count on you all to do my deep thinking for me :biggrin: one day i will get my brain back and shock you with my fantastic insight. That is, if Darbi, Zoriah, fricksgurl, Dezdemona, ravenmoon - heck, all of you! - don't say it first!
ooh can't wait for the next ep of lost...that kiss was the hottest kiss i have ever seen
Most definitely! Welcome to OutKaSts, Angel!!!:grin:

When does OutKaSts #6 Sail, btw?
IceKat55 10-17-2006, 02:44 PM Oh, me too. I absolutely adored Evie in that scene...she really did nail the range of emotions that Kate was experiencing there. From concern for Sawyer, to her "what the hell were you thinking?" almost-anger with him for getting himself zapped, to her moment of clarity when her face clearly said "CLEVER Sawyer, I can't believe I underestimated you!", to her admiration for his execution of the plan ("did you see the look on their faces...?"), and most importantly, to that fire in her eyes that said "yeah...I'm diggin' it, and I'm diggin' you...let's do some damage!"
Those two play so beautifully off of each other...it's just such fun to watch! :heart:

Found this in another "land" and it was too funny and I only post it because it is funny.
Once upon a time
~~~~~~~~
in a land far away,
~~~~~~~~
a beautiful, independent, self-assured woman
~~~~~~~~
happened upon a frog as she sat
contemplating ecological issues
on the shores of an unpolluted pond
in a verdant meadow.
~~~~~~~~
The frog hopped into the woman's lap
and said: " Elegant Lady,
I was once a handsome doctor,
until an evil island cast a spell upon me.
~~~~~~~~
One kiss from you, however,
and I will turn back
into the dapper, young surgeon that I am
~~~~~~~~
and then, my sweet, we can marry
~ ~~~~~~~
and set up housekeeping in a house with a white picket fence
~~~~~~~~
with my mother,
~~~~~~~~
where you can prepare my meals,
~~~~~~~~
clean my clothes, bear my children,
~~~~~~~~
and f orever feel
grateful and happy doing so. "
~~~~~~~~!
That night,
~~~~~~~~
as the woman dined sumptuously
~~~~~~~~
on lightly sautéed frog legs
~~~~~~~~
seasoned in a white wine
~~~~~~~
and onion cream sauce,
~~~~~~~~
she chuckled and said to her
long-haired, green-eyed lover:

Found this in another "land" and it was too funny and I only post it because it is funny.
Once upon a time
~~~~~~~~
in a land far away,
~~~~~~~~
a beautiful, independent, self-assured woman
~~~~~~~~
happened upon a frog as she sat
contemplating ecological issues
on the shores of an unpolluted pond
in a verdant meadow.
~~~~~~~~
The frog hopped into the woman's lap
and said: " Elegant Lady,
I was once a handsome doctor,
until an evil island cast a spell upon me.
~~~~~~~~
One kiss from you, however,
and I will turn back
into the dapper, young surgeon that I am
~~~~~~~~
and then, my sweet, we can marry
~ ~~~~~~~
and set up housekeeping in a house with a white picket fence
~~~~~~~~
with my mother,
~~~~~~~~
where you can prepare my meals,
~~~~~~~~
clean my clothes, bear my children,
~~~~~~~~
and f orever feel
grateful and happy doing so. "
~~~~~~~~!
That night,
~~~~~~~~
as the woman dined sumptuously
~~~~~~~~
on lightly sautéed frog legs
~~~~~~~~
seasoned in a white wine
~~~~~~~
and onion cream sauce,
~~~~~~~~
she chuckled and said to her
long-haired, green-eyed lover:
~~~~~~~~
I don't freakin think so.
Priceless!
Save The Humans 10-17-2006, 07:16 PM Done voted in both polls! Pro-Skate. As if that needed to be said! :D
Blue Coral--what happened to that cute dancing kitty? :sob:
Wouldn't you have liked to have done a Smokey-like probe of Ben's mind, to find out what he was thinking of the whole James/Kate exchange at the cages?
And Sheba? Whoever wrote that poem/story is a GENIUS!! :24:
joemamaah 10-17-2006, 07:33 PM ETA: New poll up over at SciFi.com (http://www.scifi.com/scifiwire/index.php?category=1&id=38050) - - on the far right side of the page. Also one at EW.com (http://www.ew.com/ew/article/poll/0,6115,1544690_3%7C%7C233618%7C1_0_,00.html).
Hit 'em, Skaters! :smile:
I love that second poll because for one - the three couples are in a CAGE- andfor another, they see Sawyer and Kate as THE couple of Lost! Isn't that fantastic?
No spoilers, but rather some very interesting insights into the process of writing and producing the show. Of particular interest to Skate fans, there are a couple of mentions of Kate and Sawyer.
ABRAMS: But I do think that the reality is that you look at what the show was when we were doing it and it did go against, what people believed was viable television. The cast was enormous, serialized storytelling -- I mean serialization in itself was sort of verboten in network television. It was a genre show.
CUSE: And characters who were unsympathetic leads who would murder people. … You go to a network executive and say, "You know what, you're going to love this girl. She's a fugitive and she actually blew her father up and killed him!" Or, "This other guy was a con man and his desire was to basically kill the guy who killed his parents but he actually killed somebody else instead!" But those became the characters that we know and love on the show and that, again, was something which was really in violation of normal network storytelling rules.
So what our original ending is hopefully is going to still be in play. But the reality is the characters who were involved in that ending and what happens on the island might change as a result of external factors. God forbid, Josh Holloway decided to leave the show after six seasons, which is what he's contracted for. If that were to happen, we as writers would have to change our minds about certain story directions that we're taking. But the kind of conceptual idea of the ending is in place.
TAPPER: It's weird because Shannon had been redeemed. Shannon had become a better person and had found love with Sayid.
ABRAMS: Exactly, yes.
CUSE: Which, therefore, made her death all the more poignant.
LINDELOF: Right.
CUSE: That was clearly intentional. We try to set up characters and then get you to bite on a certain stereotype or a certain kind of judgment that you might make about this character and then try to kind of completely reverse field on that.
I really like that last quote above. It's gratifying to know that in their version of this show, it is possible for con men and murderers to turn around and go against stereotype, maybe even be complex and heroic, maybe even have a love story that's deep and meaningful. ;)
Save The Humans 10-17-2006, 07:43 PM Interesting that he was using James & Kate as examples. . . .:biggrin:
What an insightful interview, and one that has some real substance. Thanks Dez! I like that last quote , too. It's kind of ironic how things work.
lisagwilkins 10-17-2006, 08:46 PM i know i'm late but you can count me in on the title i love it... once again Girlspy is brilliant :biggrin:
absolutly Zoriah i always believed that he didn't have to lose his bad boy persona just cause he loves her. In fact i hated the attitude that him loving someone would make him wearker, more wussy or something. I don't think loving someone makes you weak, it makes you stronger, cause your still capable of it. And i thnk that makes his character more complex and compelling, he can still be that insensitve jerk, and a tough guy and love her all the same. There's been quite a few rogues who remained that way even though they loved a woman with all their heart. Rhett Butler and Han Solo come to mind now don't they? :biggrin:
Hello Outkasters...
Josh has said that he wants to make sure Sawyer doesn't lose his edge. I think it is absolutely a given that Sawyer will never lose the edge. If he didn't he wouldn't be Sawyer. Sawyer never wants to be the hero, and he always resists it, so why would he eventually decide to be the honorable heroic goody-two shoes.
He won't do that. Rhett Butler was the "hero" of Gone With The Wind, but let's not forget, when Scarlett first saw him the first thing she said is"
"He looks like he knows what I look like without my shimmy."
What an excellent description of the way Sawyer would look at Kate, and since day one Sawyer and Kate have been described as a modern day Rhett and Scarlett. And even Josh has said that Sawyer is the best character ever written since Rhett Butler...
