View Full Version : Tell Us Which Desmond Facial Expressions You Love The Most!!!!
Desmondslass 07-25-2006, 08:40 PM I thought we might need some more flash backs on Desmond to soothe our
withdrawal symptoms.................Desmond's expressions are priceless...:cheerleader::cheerleader:
slflowers101 07-25-2006, 08:50 PM Desmondslass...another good one!
I LOVE the "heartbroken look"..the way he looks at Penny at the stadium during their entire talk and when he's reading her letter....oh it just kills me. And when Daddy Widmore tells him that Penny's engaged and calls him a coward.
I just want to wrap him up and take him home!!:in_love:
See_Ya_In_Another_Life_Yeh 07-25-2006, 09:36 PM Oh heck yes! But I like the brace heroic Des like when he turns the key...and I love the drunk, suprised Des!
palomino_grl78 07-25-2006, 09:57 PM I like the "Lift it Up" expression at the stadium in MOSMOF. So hopeful, so spirited, so hot ( sorry that just came out!)
Save The Humans 07-25-2006, 10:37 PM ALL of them!!
The sympathetic look he gives Jack when Jack opens up to him is a particular fave, though!
And the cynical mocking expression, when Locke tells him he doesn't need the gun he's pointing at him. . . .
And when he calls Widmore "you b*****d"!
And when he breaks down after reading Penny's note.
And. . . .
Well, ALL OF THEM!
MerryMac 07-26-2006, 08:11 AM Here are a few...
Coffeeshop Desmond: "I will win this race, for love."
Drunken Hatch: "You...."
Desmond and Widmore, "You're a B______d, you know that?"
Desmond and Penny in the Stadium, "I have to get my honor back."
See_Ya_In_Another_Life_Yeh 07-26-2006, 09:44 AM Oh yeh! Gotta love a bad boy with a tender heart..lol..dont know if it's possible though to clasify Des as a bad boy...
MerryMac 07-26-2006, 10:28 AM Desmond is not a bad boy. He just had a lot of really bad luck in his life, and he just needs some lovin' and understandin'. He needs Penny's loving care and attention.
Save The Humans 07-26-2006, 03:33 PM And the support of all his friends HERE!
Any time Desmond is caring or sympathetic is a good moment for me.
And Widmore's not only evil, but NUTS, not to respect a man who'll stand up to him like Desmond does! He should've been offering to finance a big blowout wedding with a Dickens theme!
Automission 07-26-2006, 04:20 PM I loved not only his faces of sorrow and fear, but anger. Remember when he said "a trick?" and gave locke that half cocked head angry look? loved that facial expression. Love them all really! ^_^
SawyerLuv108 07-27-2006, 07:35 AM I love the suprised look. Its my favorite.
But I also like the look when he gives Jack his water at the stadium.

Don't fret, Widmore is going to get what coming to him. When Penny finds Desmond on the island, Mr. Eko will perform the wedding ceremony, and Penny and Desmond will be united. Just see the egg dripping from Mr. Widmore face when he finds out that they are secretly married.
100%

Yes, give him some tender, loving care (TLC).
Save The Humans 07-27-2006, 04:14 PM :71:
TLC. Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.
Is it October 4 yet?!
jbdean 07-27-2006, 07:06 PM Is Santoro doing a Karl again? As in Love Actually?Sorry I was late getting on this band wagon but my favorites are the way Des looks at Jack when he understands that Jack and Sarah aren't married any more. The joyous look on his face when he sees Locke above from below the hatch. The look on his face when he says, "Hello yourself, boxman." I also love the smile he gives (with his lips pursed) to Jack while sitting next to him on the bleacher seats. I know I'll come up with more ... oh, wait! Silly me. The smile/wink that's in my avi!!
Save The Humans 07-27-2006, 07:57 PM I know I'll come up with more ... oh, wait! Silly me. The smile/wink that's in my avi!!
:wallbash:
He just so genuinely CARES about anyone he's talking to. That's AWESOME!
jheri 07-27-2006, 08:46 PM My all time fav is...That look of fear..when the computer is shot, when he tells Locke that he crashed the plane and so on. He just looks so wide eyed and innocent and paniced, and cute.
palomino_grl78 07-27-2006, 09:47 PM I don't know if this qualifies as a facial expression but I am kind of partial to the "sleeping Des" look a la MerryMac's avvie...he just looks so peaceful and angelic
jbdean 07-27-2006, 10:18 PM I also love the look he gives when he notices Kelvin's pants are ripped and the look at the door as he's peeping out. I also love the look he gives when he laughs at Locke when they first meet. Or the look he has when he's bending over to pick up his falled backpack and realizes that he does know Jack.
Save The Humans 07-27-2006, 11:31 PM The look on my avi! Why'd'ya think I love it so much? :wink1:
jbdean 07-27-2006, 11:50 PM The look on my avi! Why'd'ya think I love it so much? :wink1: Yes! That whole moment is filled with that beautful face and that beautiful expression.
Save The Humans 07-28-2006, 12:16 AM And that beautiful caring!
Do you know how few people CARE anymore? Jack's nuts not to see this. He should've just sat down and wept and let Desmond offer him a shoulder to cry on. They could've talked and talked about all their woes and fears. . .and hours later, realize, "Hey! We're still HERE! Either they fixed the computer, or the button really didn't have to be pushed!" They could've gone back to Beach Camp together. They could've worked on the boat together.
Things could've been DIFFERENT, dag nab it!
Oh, don't mind me. Still upset at reruns being cancelled and October 4 being too far away and not having any money and all that crap. :unhappy:
But that CARING EXPRESSION of his! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

But that CARING EXPRESSION of his! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! I see your point but if they'd gone that route we wouldn't have had the awesome finale! No failsafe key ... no drunk Desmond. No snowglobe line. A lot of stuff would have gone untold or had to be told in a way that wasn't, IMO, as eventful as the finale.

See_Ya_In_Another_Life_Yeh 07-28-2006, 11:49 AM Oh most defiantly not..guess bad comparin jus ya kno when u see em all mad and stuff..kinda bad-boyish? Not really ah nevermind..
jbdean 07-28-2006, 12:02 PM And our Desmond might not have received the Emmy Nomination..................etc.....:desmond:And that is definitely the best reason of all!!!
Save The Humans 07-28-2006, 01:12 PM Agreeance with all of this, of course!
But it would've been NICE, though! (Says the #1 proponent of a Jack/Desmond friendship!) :wink1:
MerryMac 07-28-2006, 01:31 PM There is a possibility of that this coming season. We just have to wait and see.
See_Ya_In_Another_Life_Yeh 07-28-2006, 02:56 PM That would be awesome or Des/Sawyer more unlikelu but Sawyer's a cutie too..nothing like luvleh Des
Desmondslass 07-28-2006, 03:10 PM I loved Desmond's face in the coffee shop when Libby offered to pay for his coffee. My favorite expression was when Libby offered the boat to him!!!!!!!!!!!!! :smile1::smile1:

Desmondslass 07-28-2006, 05:04 PM I think we all enjoyed seeing the soft and sweet side of Desmond at the coffee shop and at the stadium with Pen. You got to admit our guy was pretty tough at the beginning!!!!:biggrin:

You got to admit our guy was pretty tough at the beginning!!!!:biggrin: He was tough in the begining but that scene with Jack on the hill gave us insight that he was a sweetie pie at heart.
Save The Humans 07-29-2006, 04:15 PM Well, his scene with Jack in the stadium in MOS, MOF told us that this dude was "tough" due to his circumstances, not due to his nature! :wink1:
He's such a great guy. . .wonder if the LOST honchos had ANY idea how much of a good thing they were getting when they hired Ian!

I'm sure they knew they were getting a consumate actor but they could never have had any idea of the following he would generate. And more than them ... Ian was (and still is) blow away by all of it!
Save The Humans 07-30-2006, 01:24 AM About what I figured, Jane!
I can picture the conversation now:
ABC Honcho: This is unacceptable! Not one LOST actor nominated for an Emmy!
LOST Honcho: Wrong-o, guy! One actor did get nominated--Ian Cusick!
ABC Honcho: The guy who plays Desmond?
LOST Honcho: That's the dude, man!
ABC Honcho: Well, what are you waiting for? Sign him up as a regular!
LOST Honcho: Consider it done!
And the rest is history!

Save The Humans 07-30-2006, 03:16 AM Cusick, who has signed a megabucks contract, said: "I've been asked to be a regular for at least a year.
"I have to be in Hawaii at the beginning of August to start filming and my family are moving out to join me later.
"It's a great opportunity for me and I'm grabbing it with both hands."
YES!!

I loved that "not together, together" line..LOL. Yeah, don't think I'd like them in that manner myself. I liked Phone Booth alright, but as I said, he has become a new obsession. Oh and The New World is not on TV slflowers, sorry. I had to rent it :frown: But if it's worth watching I'll let you know. He does sport the Desmond-esque beard in the movie though. Yum.

Save The Humans 07-31-2006, 10:54 PM I like his happy, relieved face! When he recognized Jack in the jungle, he was just SO delighted! His old 'running buddy,' back in his life again! And he was picking up the conversation right where they'd left off! He was just so glad to see Jack!
Pity Jack couldn't have returned the favor. But I suppose that wouldn't have matched up with Jack's mental state at the time--just as it didn't back at the stadium.
Desmond always seems to catch Jack at just the wrong time in Jack's life! I sure hope that changes this season!
:smile1: :smile1: :smile1:
Desmond/Jack/James. . . The Three Friendketeers!

I hope so too, STH...maybe Desmond's Zen-like quality can help Jack relax a bit more and realize that others are capable of handling situations. (I am not a Jack hater by definition..I like the pre-island Jack quite a bit). I think Des' overall personality will be beneficial to the other Losties. He can give them the hope that they are lacking lately that they will get rescued, because he still has hope of his one true love returning.

FrecklesLuvsCowboy 08-03-2006, 02:06 PM I luv when Desmond laughs Sarcastically at ppl like sayin' I know you're wrong and I'm right and I know but I won't share cuz I'm a harda$$ like that - Don't know if that made sense at all ...oh well. :desmond: that's what matters.

Lea_Lost 08-06-2006, 07:37 AM My fav Des expressions:
-the self-confident: "I know, impressive!"; "I''ll win this race for love!"
-just confident: "I'll never let go!"
-not that confident: "we're in a bloody snow-globe!"
-pretty serious lack of confidence: "You killed us all!"
-really, really disperate: "It's all gone...!"
and the ever lovable "It smells like carrots!" (it might be my new creed, the answer to all questions! :insane: :roflmao: )
jbdean 08-06-2006, 08:46 AM I also loved the look on his face when he finds his letters to Penny in that box.
Desmondslass 08-07-2006, 10:53 PM when the sailboat hatch is opened and the light hits Desmond's face and bare legs........:thumbup:
palomino_grl78 08-07-2006, 10:56 PM how about the look he gives Libby when she offers to buy him a cup of coffee in the coffee shop? The look of gratitude and relief that there were kind people in the world. I just wish he would come into my coffee shop and give me that look when I gave him a free cup of java.

slflowers101 08-07-2006, 11:24 PM Talking about that coffee shop scene...how about after Libby says to Des that "it's only four bucks" and his eyes totally check her out...up and down..a real quick once over!
That looked so natural..I bet it wasn't even a conscious move. Of course, he's a great actor but if it was planned, then he's MORE than a great actor. Whoever has it on tape has to check it out. Makes me want to join ya'll in the coffeshop! Add one more, STH:laughing:

Sorry STH...I know...But I work around coffee all day long and a girl can't help but get Desmond/Coffee scenarios going. Tell ya what...if he ever does come into my work..I will buy him a cup of coffee and tell him to head on down to Texas so you can buy him one too. Then we can compare each word, expression, glance, etc....cool?

Sounds like a plan, Palomino! :coffee:

How does this guy DO it?
Desmondslass 08-09-2006, 11:14 PM This man has what it takes. The expressions with so little lines. I just typed the coffee shop lines really not much there..........Stadium the same but his face tells the story............the man is gifted..

Save The Humans 08-09-2006, 11:28 PM Well, don't be a :ranting: kind, Desmondslass! :D
Desmondslass 08-11-2006, 10:23 PM Stadium: "I was in prison, not away." "When are you getting married, Pen?" My two favorite lines and expressions. Desmond transforms himself and becomes a real person here..............:smile:
Save The Humans 08-11-2006, 11:47 PM He conveys SO MANY levels of hurt when he says lines like that! And you just want to :crybaby:!! And you DO!!
If you can't say it on your face, it doesn't matter how well you say the line. But Desmond can. on sleeve. Just like so many of us! No wonder we love his facial expressions--we can relate to them!
slflowers101 08-13-2006, 11:04 AM His look when when he said "I'll be back in a year" to Penny. It said:.. have to do this..have to prove myself...I love you...wait for me...wait for me

Yes, that line and expression gets me everytime..............wonder how Pen felt when the year passed and no Desmond. Most of all I wonder where Desmond was when the one year mark hit.....if he was still sailing or was in the hatch??????? :yikes:
Lea_Lost 08-13-2006, 11:24 AM Yes, that line and expression gets me everytime..............wonder how Pen felt when the year passed and no Desmond. Most of all I wonder where Desmond was when the one year mark hit.....if he was still sailing or was in the hatch??????? :yikes:
My guess is the hatch... And his disappearance must have been reported before the one year was over.. She must have had a big fight with everybody telling her to let go... and she just doesn't!
If only Des would know his girl and her perseverance! His expression when he reads her letter down in the hatch brakes my heart to tiny little pieces :broken_heart: :crybaby:
Save The Humans 08-14-2006, 12:07 AM The facial expressions he'll show when he sees Penny for the first time since that night at the stadium!
Oh, the moment when he was wiping the tear from her face! SO wanting to just come back to her (like she wanted, too!), knowing he could not and be able to live with himself (oh, pride and honor!).
The man doesn't NEED lines--he speaks volumes with his face alone!
slflowers101 08-14-2006, 10:48 AM When Desmond was asking Kelvin questions about the the initiation tape, Radzinsky and why Kelvin was wearing the protective suit.....he had such an inqisitive, and almost innocent look about him.
He didn't look threatened or angry, like I think a lot of people would be. He's such an open, honest character and it shows on his face. :in_love:
Lea_Lost 08-14-2006, 10:49 AM The facial expressions he'll show when he sees Penny for the first time since that night at the stadium!

That night in the stadium? Tenderness, desire, regret, stubbornness, sadness, determination, love, hope... is that what you ment with "he speaks volumes with his face?" :) Yes, he does! And every time I watch that, I see something else, something more into it.

Right? total confusion..not knowing where he was, what happened, who he was talking to.
I like how he looked at Kelvin when he said "Maybe you should do it"...about faking the lockdown so Kelvin could continue painting the invisable map on the door...still not certain that he'd be able to pull it off...but probably better than that was his hugh smile after he ws successful!

I agree! Sheer terror and panic...he just figured it out and now this guy is not believing him. Which leads to the look he gives Locke right before he leaves to turn the failsafe..and he says he's sorry for whatever made John lose his faith.

LoriO 08-18-2006, 01:03 PM His expression in the third episode where he's running away and Jack stops him with a gun and Desmond starts rattling off the numbers and Jack tells him to "shut up" and Desmond says "Sorry?" I love his expression in that scene. Also the scene in the finale where he thinks he's accidentally killed Kelvin. Very realistic expression. And when he's crying and smiling at the same time when he's looking up at the hatch with Locke's light pouring down. And, and...well you get the idea.

Yes! Instead of saying, "I don't understand--don't you WANT me to tell you the code? It could save the world, if you get that computer fixed in time!", he SHOWED it!
And when he's crying and smiling at the same time when he's looking up at the hatch with Locke's light pouring down.
Anyone who's ever felt alone in the world, only to find out they are NOT, can tell you how on-target Desmond's face and body language were! (And believe me, I know that from many a personal experience!)

Yes, but Jack is too busy pointing that gun to even notice Desmond's expression. After Jack tells him to "shut up" he looks so puzzled and kind of hurt. Just so sweet.

slflowers101 08-18-2006, 06:50 PM The look on Desmonds face as Locke is telling him about the night he was banging on the hatch door, after Boone died. Desmond realized it was Locke and he was in a way, in debted to him for "saving his life"...Des didn't use the gun on himself after he realized he wasn't alone on the island.
Total realization and shock...he was looking at his "savior"...
Desmondslass 08-18-2006, 09:20 PM I still love the rain scene outside the prison. Desmond was so happy to be free his expression told the whole story of what he had to endure. :sweatdrp:

Lea_Lost 08-20-2006, 01:04 PM Oh, yes. And the unhappy Desmond too
I'm watching LTDA, for the hundred and first time, and the pang on his face when the soldier says "dishonourably discharged" was so stunning. How he reacted to that foretold that honour will play a huge part in his actions later.
It is so sad to watch how many blows he gets on that particular day.
"dishonourably dischaged"
"she has moved on..."
"what she is concerned you forsaken her"
"you are a coward"
His reaction to every single one is different but the pain is there all the way. :unhappy:

Geez..almost forgot about that..how is that possible? You're so right. He was so convinced that pushing the button would save the world, he was in a total panic.
The unthinkable had just happened after three years of this routine...not knowing anything else..it had consumed his entire life up until that point. Quite a rude awakening!

Yes! I get so caught up in the tortured, driven Desmond that I forget about these.
. OMG..he was soo terrified when he came running back to the hatch and couldn't get the numbers to register...plus the fact that he was all alone at that point too..he thinks he's just killed Kelvin and then has to face the possibility that he may have just signed his own death warrant as well.
Save The Humans 08-21-2006, 10:21 PM Be interesting to compare his facial expressions from when he didn't get the code in on time (Lostaways, Day 1) with those from when he realized the computer had been shot (Day 45) and from when he realized the failsafe was their only chance (Day 65).
Poor guy. . .always a crisis! :eek1:

Poor guy. . .always a crisis! :eek1:
Hmm I think the most panicky was when he "killed" Kelvin and was late with the code. He just came back from a horrible scene, the whole station was shaking and rumbling, the computer wasn't responding and he was all alone with the situation! He was shaking, pure dread was on his face!
When the computer was shot, he panicked again, but at least he wasn't alone there to save the world. The responsibility was shared. He had the option to leave it all behind, and so he did. A luxury he didn't have before. Sheer panic of course, but not doomsday.
In LTDA, when he realized the button was real, Locke just smashed the computer, there he was again, in the same situation. But he was beyond all hope by than. He was prisoner inside the snoglobe, and didn't have anything left to lose. He took action, and the thought that he can do something changed panic into determination.
Save The Humans 08-23-2006, 12:43 PM Nicely put, Lea!
I still see his expressions of sadness and hurt and regret when he realizes that he can't cheer someone up, or has made them feel worse, more often than I ought to. It is depressing to see Desmond that way. It is more depressing that someone won't be cheered, encouraged, and/or helped. I'm too often like "someone," so I'd probably put those expressions on Desmond's face. THAT is even more depressing!
Lea_Lost 08-23-2006, 12:55 PM Nicely put, Lea!

Sadness when people cannot be cheered, when you can do nothing for them...
I think that on the island there will be plenty occasions to feel that way for our lad in S3!
I just remembered the grateful and moved Desmond, in the coffeshop scene! The warmth when he did find the words to cheer Libby a little bit with "I'll win this race for love!"

Sad and shocked Desmond always! They sure picked the right actor for this part. Even when he was let out of prison he had a crisis on his hands. Now that you mentioned it, I think all Desmond scenes were a shock or sadess to him until now. Only two times we saw him smiling, grinning: with Jack in the stadium, and with Libby in the coffeeshop. And even these scenes had a minor crisis or shock.

(They charge $65/hr. just to show up and LOOK at things. So I hope we're not talking parts replacement, or anything!)
He has a pretty good expression on his face in the
S3 cast photo,
don't ya think?
Desmondslass 08-24-2006, 09:21 PM I love the expression on Desmond face: Desmond to Locke: " We locked out a priest?" That expression and the Scot accent............

Absolutely
I love the expression on Desmond face: Desmond to Locke: " We locked out a priest?" That expression and the Scot accent............
Oh, that was hilarious! And also gives us a hint that religion is important to Des.
Save The Humans 08-25-2006, 12:51 PM And also gives us a hint that religion is important to Des.
Another hint, Lea! Don't forget that wonderful hopeful-desperate facial expression on Desmond's face, as he crossed himself that the broken computer would now work, back in "Orientation"!!
Hummmm. . .Eko taking Desmond's confession. Now THERE would be a scene FULL of memorable facial expressions!

Hummmm. . .Eko taking Desmond's confession. Now THERE would be a scene FULL of memorable facial expressions!
Oh, I hope that won't occur. (no offence...) Eko is not actually a priest, Desmond would mind that, I think!
I just remembered that he crossed himself before he turned the failsafe-key as well. His first thought went to God, his last to Penny. And as I think of it, he had HOPE on his face than, not desperation!!!
Save The Humans 08-25-2006, 01:02 PM Eko is not actually a priest
IMHO, yes, he is, too, a priest. Top of his class at the Catholic Seminary of Real Life!
He and Desmond would always be glad to see each other, methinks! would be their facial expressions--always a F.E. I like to see on Desmond's face!
slflowers101 08-25-2006, 01:08 PM I agree, I loved his expressions when he did cross himself..he was, IMO, doing what he could do when trying to fix the computer and what he believed to be the right thing when he turned the failsafe then looking to his faith to seal the deal. That's how I saw it anyway.
I think they were looks of hope in desperate times. Very touching scenes
Lea_Lost 08-25-2006, 01:19 PM IMHO, yes, he is, too, a priest. Top of his class at the Catholic Seminary of Real Life!

Still haven't convinced me, STH
IMO a Real priest (away from the seminary thing and studies and sactities and dogma) would not hit someone with a club on the had before at least asking questions (as he did with Sawyer, Michael and Jin). I don't doubt his faith, but preasthood means spiritual leadership to me, and I would never choose him as my spiritual leader, that's for sure!
Back to facial expressions.
I hope to see a lot more of this side of Desmonds in S3.
I'd connect it with Locke though, not Eko. They already have a connection.
Save The Humans 08-25-2006, 11:34 PM Desmond. Desmond facial expressions. Desmond lines. Desmond actions.
Desmond. Now.
Lea_Lost 08-27-2006, 08:41 AM Desmond on the edge: when a drunk Kelvin explains him the failsafe key.
I just loved so much his expression when Locke told him about him banging on the hatch door 3 dayes before they met, when he realized, that this guy in front of him, the "box-man" saved his life than! He is so struck and touched! :eek1: This is why he stopped to try and restore his faith before he went to save the world.
Save The Humans 08-27-2006, 05:46 PM This is why he stopped to try and restore his faith before he went to save the world.
Yup. Cares about the individual as well as the Disaster Befalling! He did the same with Jack in the jungle in MOSMOF. Again, the expressions of a man who can be focused on the Big Picture and the Person in Need!
I need a friend like him! :crybaby: Can you give me directions to Craphole Island?
Lea_Lost 08-28-2006, 11:30 AM I need a friend like him! :crybaby: Can you give me directions to Craphole Island?
You have no idea, how deeply I feel your pain, STH! But unfortunately, nobody can get to the island, who is not supposed to  Bummer.
Again, the hurt Desmond comes in mind, when he finds out, that Kelvin betrayed him, manipulated him, tricked him! It is so hard for him to understand that somebody would do such a thing, when his mind is always on how to help out others... even in the most critical moments.

That's so well put...Desmond isn't afraid of his emotions..he wears his heart on his sleeve (which makes him so much more loveable), it's kind of unthinkable for him to realize that someone would be false, isn't it?

Yeah, but still he isn't the one who ends up crying when he talks to people! He can also make people face their feelings! Now isn't that the man to love?!

YES! I think that's part of his mystique..he really is, IMO,a spiritual, hopeful, almost mystical character..just so very open..when he looks at you, he makes you want to confide in him and understand your own actions because he is so open and natural and he makes it acceptable to do so.
But we've also seen his dark side, when he doubts himself (going back to the hurt looks on his face, Lea), which again just makes us realize that he is human, which IMO makes him all the more appealing.
Save The Humans 08-28-2006, 03:26 PM It is so hard for him to understand that somebody would do such a thing,
I've got a feeling that
we may learn, in his backstory eppy this October, that he understands someone would do such a thing, but that such things are horrible for him to contemplate!
But that's just a guess. His facial expressions at those moments have has much rage to them as hurt or shock. How he does that, I don't know!

All the right words, SLF: spiritual, hopeful, open, mystical and REAL ;) It is so interesting that we see all that in him in spite of the fact that 99% of his scenes were dramatic up to desperate.

I know what you mean, STH. And possibly you are right too.
I'm afraid we are going to withness more desperate times of his in the FB...

So well said slflowers. Swoooonnnn To me Desmond=Perfection!
Even when he doubts himself, like when he loses it after reading Penny's letter, he still never comes across as a wimp. That was a moment of utter dispair but still there is a strength in him that his tears just can't dampen. Or am I just looking through Desmondite colored glasses?
Save The Humans 08-30-2006, 07:34 PM The friendly and accessible, yet wary and wiser-now expression you see in
the Season 3 poster
is a darn good one, too!
mygoodeye 08-31-2006, 05:32 AM talking of the season 3 cast photo it disturbs me. its photoshopped to hell. unless Josh Holloway has grown since season 2, theres no way he's taller than Mathew Fox...Ian's expression looks really pained, like he's just trodden on a starfish, hahah
Save The Humans 08-31-2006, 07:57 AM I like

Sleeping Desmond facial expression comes to mind right now. . .maybe cuz I haven't been to bed yet? :drowsy:
LostKitty 08-31-2006, 04:11 PM I have to admit. One of my top Desmond facial expressions is your avi, STH. I loved it even more when you said that it's when he realizes he knows Jack. I LOVE that expression!

It is hard to estimate a person's correct height when they are standing in the sand. The beach is irregular and the sand is in small drifts. So, there is no way to be correct about people's height.

Aw, thanks, LostKitty! :blushing:
The expression--the jumpsuit--knowing it's at the moment he remembers Jack--the lyrics to "Make Your Own Kind Of Music" superimposed over the pix--ALL these things combine to make this my fave Desmond pix! It was my choice of avi then, it is my choice of avi now, and I can't see my choice changing in the foreseeable future!
Though the pix YOU are using, MerryMac, is pretty fine, too!
LostKitty 08-31-2006, 11:37 PM Oh, my. Between the two of you, you have the best Desmond imaginable!

true i suppose. i think the lighting whoever took the pic used makes the cast look very flat and 2-D, like cardboard cut-outs. just didnt look very natural to me at all.
but ive got it as my wallpaper now anyway, although MSM tends to cover Henry (good), Des (alas) and Locke (also alas). but i can just click the desk-clear icon if i want to check Des is still there:biggrin:
Lea_Lost 09-01-2006, 11:21 AM Today I feel for the incredulous, concentrated, sick and tired Desmond when Locke tells him about the Pearl and the possibility that the button is a lie. He rolled his eye when Jack said they are still pushing it, but the possibility that he spent three years of his life secluded in a bunker pushing a button on an old computer for nothing was not comprehensible. So many feelings on his face just than: irritation, anger, questioning, attention... and he is also drunk! Powerful, brotha!

Oh that look gets me, too, Ginia. He does despair and torment so well...always in check, never over the top..so disciplined. *swoons a little* Perfection...:in_love:

Hi, Lea:wavey:
Definitely powerful and moving...he "wasted" the past three years of his life, if he was to believe Locke's story and I 'm sure his mind went to Penny again and his folly of wanting to win the race (maybe folly is the wrong word, to Desmond, I'm sure it is)
Need to see our poor Desmond again SOON!!!

Hi back, SLF :wavey:
I find it amazing that every time I watch those eppys something else appeals to me! That's why I must watch them so often
Definitely need MORE DESMOND soon, because can-food is good, but I want some fresh things now!!!
LostKitty 09-01-2006, 12:13 PM Yay! Season 2 comes out on Tuesday. And the first episode I'm watching is going to be the last one. And then I'll check to see if there's any behind the scenes with Desmond or Ian. Like Lea, I am eager to have new expressions.
Lea_Lost 09-03-2006, 08:49 AM I am just watching screen captures, and I found this. Gosh, I never realised that he had tears in his eyes in this scene! Boy, his expression is just a punch in the stomach, it makes me wanna cry... :crybaby:

Save The Humans 09-03-2006, 11:45 PM Seeing his boat--realizing that he's had three years of his life (two of which could've been with Penny, since the race was taking a year) robbed from him--heck, I'D have been crying, too!
For an ex-spook, Kelvin was sure stupid to show himself, and to underestimate what Desmond would do in his rage and pain! All of which showed up beautifully in Desmond's facial expressions, I might add!

So well put, STH! All I meant to say, but just couldn't yesterday. So silly of me to be so touched by this capture  (Giving an imaginary kiss on his troubled forehead...:11: )
LostKitty 09-04-2006, 04:07 PM Oh, that's just torture! I want to give him a hug, tell him it will all be ok. Penny's coming, Des! She loves you! I also never noticed the tears. Wow. He is amazing! That is just heart-wrenching!
carfreak2128 09-04-2006, 04:27 PM Yeah. sad. I would be too if someone found me, dragged me into a hatch, made me push a button for three years, and then use me and try to escape. That would make me cry. And then i would kill Kelvin. :-)

That Kelvin got what was coming to him. Desmond really kicked some butt there.:hissy: :angryfire :chair: :42fight: .
Seriously, I never saw tears in Desmond's eyes until you pointed it out. Those are real tears, not glycerin drops. I thought Matthew Fox was the king of such emotion. But, Ian outdid him.
LostKitty 09-04-2006, 05:55 PM It's amazing how much we were able to see out of just a couple of episodes.
I can't wait for some emotional scenes next season. Yay, Episode 3.4! We will have so many new Desmonds to love!

You know, a scene where they finally open up to each other is gonna have enough tears
To explain where the water behind the door Jack opens in the promo came from! :biglaugh:

:24: You crack me up, STH! Hope that will not happen though. I like sensitive men, but that is just too much for me:biggrin:
Kitty is right, we have got so much in so little time from him,
a S3 with Desmond as a regular may be just too much to handle :eek2:
Flowers pointed out the lost-media to me, and I tell you it was worth it to sail through all the 1400 screen caps of LTDA. You can see so many things that you missed in the show, even after 100 viewing...
Save The Humans 09-05-2006, 08:10 PM a S3 with Desmond as a regular may be just too much to handle
But I'm sure we'll all muddle through, somehow!
That generally-friendly face when he introduces himself to Jack (at the stadium, just before leaving) is my face for today! He's so nice, you just wanna shake his hand and ask if he can't stay awhile longer, and talk! Or go get a coffee. Silly Jack, wasting such an opportunity!
LostKitty 09-05-2006, 09:41 PM So I'm here watching the Season 2 dvds, and I had to watch all the Desmonds first, of course! I love how different he is from start to finish. There's the beginning where he's weary of the Losties and when we're seeing his past. Then when he's drunk and has kind of given up, he is a whole other person! Ian is so amazing. I know that I'm missing many other Desmonds, but those two just contrast so much. ::Sigh:: I love him.
slflowers101 09-05-2006, 10:43 PM Today I love his face when he tells Libby that he'll win the race for love...I keep going back to that scene..I just love everything about it
Oh that face...so sweet:in_love:
Save The Humans 09-05-2006, 10:48 PM Yup. Sweetest, kindest face I've ever seen!
His face when/if he finds out that Elizabeth = Libby is gonna be amazing!
LostKitty 09-05-2006, 10:53 PM STH, how do you think that could happen? I can see it being very possible that he never finds out. Well, unless Penny knows something and tells him.
(Spoiler-fonted for the UK's protection)
Save The Humans 09-05-2006, 10:58 PM The Others were mumbling about "Elizabeth" in LTDA, Lost Kitty. In the whispers scene before everyone got tranquilized. Bet she IS a Widmore by marriage. And if Others who know of her ever mention her to Desmond. . .!!
Anyway, sooner or later, all these connections will come out. Maybe?
LostKitty 09-05-2006, 11:00 PM You're right! I totally forgot about those whispers. Hmmm...:39:
Save The Humans 09-06-2006, 01:01 AM The perplexed look on Desmond's face when he hears the whispers for the first time!
Lea_Lost 09-06-2006, 11:56 AM The perplexed look on Desmond's face when he hears the whispers for the first time!
You reckon he never heared them before? That would be ironic, the losties to show him around the island
I hope you're right about the connections coming out sooner or later. They managed the Sawyer-Christian encounter to reveal to Jack, so they must find ways to uncover the rest.
My fav expression for today is when he first sees Penny getting out of the car at the stadium. I have this pic on my desktop now, I just love it! The perplexity, the tenderness, the surprise, the pain, the joy all there
Save The Humans 09-06-2006, 08:27 PM Yup. That was one of his best, all right!
That Penny, she sure does have an impact on Our Guy, doesn't she? :71:
Lea_Lost 09-07-2006, 11:55 AM Yup. That was one of his best, all right!
That Penny, she sure does have an impact on Our Guy, doesn't she? :71:
Yes, she does! The lucky lass! (or is she? :eek2: ) That scene is so heartbraking, so maddening! I find myself scream at my tv monitor every time
Save The Humans 09-07-2006, 09:24 PM Wait till
the NEXT time he sees her!
Talk about facial expressions to love!
LostKitty 09-08-2006, 02:53 AM Oh, STH, you are too right! Here's to hoping
CaptainA-rab 09-10-2006, 02:03 AM The crazed look in Man of Science, Man of Faith after he says "Put the gun down, or I'll blow his damn head off brotha!"
I love that smiling, crazy, wide eyed look..so cute
LostKitty 09-10-2006, 02:17 AM Well, he hasn't gotten a good night's sleep in over a month! But yes, I love crazy Desmond, too.
TheGunslinger 09-10-2006, 02:28 AM I have to agree that one of his best facial expressions (and overall best moments) is when he has the conversation with Penny. I love that scene so much. I mean if my girlfriend found me after I was in prison for a long time and her father was keeping all my letters away from her, I would be shocked to see her too lol.

It was one of his best! But than again, there are so many best moments
today I love the "deslicious" smile he has when saying "Smells like carrots!" to John...

Oh, that was so sad when Penny asked him why he didn't write to her. You can tell that he wants to say something like, "Why don't you ask your father?" Those brief seconds when he's debating what to tell her are so horrible. Poor, poor Des.
Lea_Lost 09-10-2006, 12:16 PM Oh, that was so sad when Penny asked him why he didn't write to her. You can tell that he wants to say something like, "Why don't you ask your father?" Those brief seconds when he's debating what to tell her are so horrible. Poor, poor Des.
Yes, they are! I still wonder why didn't he say that? He might have thought that it's pointless if she is getting married. But she isn't, she wants him back. And there comes my eager, confident Des of today, who is determined to get his honour back!
LostKitty 09-10-2006, 12:18 PM And I love that very soon after that he runs into Jack, and is so comforting. Even after seeing Pen and having that conversation with her, he's still willing to help someone else. He looks so kind on those steps, so willing to help. There's really no sign of what just happened.
amidala64 09-10-2006, 12:29 PM I'm fond of the drunken, "smells like carrots" smile after he uncorks the bottle in the Live Together, Die Alone.
Also from that episode, the prayerful gratitude he expresses after Locke pounds on the hatch door and Des shines the light.
Really, does the man EVER make a face that isn't totally hott??
LostKitty 09-10-2006, 12:31 PM No, amidala. I don't think that's possible.

I am so in agreeance with you, Amidala! The "smells like carrots" smile is the best smile in tv history! So roguish and great! From a drunken guy who lost his faith in everything! :eek2:
No, he can't make a face that isn't HOTTTT!

Oh that face when he's looking up at the hatch destroys me. He's out of his mind with relief and "prayful gratitude" is a brilliant description.
And of course, I have to say, with a face like he has..NO way he can not look hot, acting or not.

Ha ha ha ha, I love drunk Desmond. Drunk Desmond is absolutely hillarious. When he is drunk he becomes a horrible shot and comes up with "Sawyer-like" nicknames such as Box Man for Locke.

Well, thanks, I knew you'd like it  it is my very first attempt of the sort...
I don't think I ever saw a character that I loved every expression he had on a show :eek2: Desmond is the very first one! To think that this show had 48 eppys already, he was in 5 of them and we have things to talk about all summer:rolleyes:
Hail to drunk Desmond today!
Save The Humans 09-11-2006, 11:59 AM Actually, Lea, he was just in FOUR of them--MOS, MOF; Adrift; Orientation; and LTDA. All the more amazing that he could win the hearts and fandom of so many in such a short time! The LOST honchos must've been awed. I mean, all we could DO was talk about him! From the moment he woke up and started his day in the hatch in MOS, MOF, we didn't stand a CHANCE of resisting. . .and who'd WANT to, anyway?
That beaming face of his in LTDA, when he realized someone (Locke) was out there--can't get it out of my head! I was just so happy for him!! Wanted to give him a big  and tell him how thrilled I was he was happy again, and had his faith back!
I don't think ANY character has captured my imagination like Desmond has! How about you?
Lea_Lost 09-11-2006, 12:16 PM Actually, Lea, he was just in FOUR of them--MOS, MOF; Adrift; Orientation; and LTDA. All the more amazing that he could win the hearts and fandom of so many in such a short time! The LOST honchos must've been awed. I mean, all we could DO was talk about him! NO ONE, ever! I liked characters before, but they came and they went dayly. Now, Desmond is here to stay, that's for sure! I loved Lost before, I liked almost every character, couldn't decide between Jack, Sawyer or Sayid (lol), than Des came and settled the problem forever. And I like him in so many ways, I cannot count them! I love the man, I can feel how hot he is, I feel his warmth, I appreciate the human, the friend, the sportsman, the warrior, the angel  I think, whatever
they might make of him, show of him in S3, will never be enough!!!
(I counted LTDA for two eppys  )

Two back-to-back Desmond-centrics in a row, yeah? :71:
The expression on his face when he sees someone he knows. If we were lostaways, he'd soon be showing that expression to US--every time we saw him! Isn't that a NEAT thought? :clapping:

You mean the one he has when saying: "Boxman!"? Neat thought? More like :thud: !!!

I agree with you totally Lea_Lost! I liked all the characters as well, pretty well equally, but now that there is Desmond, he's what "Lost" is all about now, for me anyway.
Save The Humans 09-11-2006, 12:59 PM There is Desmond.
Then there are all the other lostaways. Who I do love and care about, deeply.
But first and foremost, there is DESMOND!!

:shesaid: So right. I love them all, care for them, can't wait to see them.
But there are two categories: the losties (as all of them) and DESMOND
Save The Humans 09-11-2006, 01:31 PM Desmond's current facial expression: blushing at these compliments! :D
Lea_Lost 09-11-2006, 01:40 PM Desmond's current facial expression: blushing at these compliments! :D
Oh, right! We've never seen a blushing Desmond until now! Now, how would that occur? Claire/Kate/Sun walk in while he is "showering" in the waterfalls?
Save The Humans 09-11-2006, 01:48 PM Oh, heck, he'd blush if Jack admitted, "You're a great friend, Desmond. I'm glad I know you!" :71:

Like that will ever happen... With his humongous ego. I can sooner picture Sawyer saying that :24:
LostKitty 09-11-2006, 02:06 PM Ha ha ha ha, I love drunk Desmond. Drunk Desmond is absolutely hillarious. When he is drunk he becomes a horrible shot and comes up with "Sawyer-like" nicknames such as Box Man for Locke.
Ah, drunk Des is definitely one of my favorites! I love that look on his face when he runs out of bullets and the guys open the boat hatch thingy (You can tell I live nowhere near water and thus have NO boat knowledge).
Save The Humans 09-11-2006, 02:11 PM He gave Locke the "Boxman" name in "Adrift," LostKitty, after Locke convinced him that Kate the fugitive was the dangerous one, while he was just a regional manager for a box company.
The amazing thing about drunk Desmond is how similar he was to sober Desmond, except for the goofy facial expressions! This guy is as good (if not better!) than Jack at keeping himself disciplined and in control. Of course, he has military experience. Still and all, his feeling no pain but keeping his senses was quite impressive!

I have thought the very same thing the other day. When Locke explains to him his theory about the hatch being a mind-game, but not just than.. he knows what he is saying! And the goofy expressions were a treat!!!
Save The Humans 09-11-2006, 02:29 PM Yes, indeed. And he wasn't so drunk to know that he didn't wanna watch another orientation film, even if it WAS from another station! :D
Lea_Lost 09-11-2006, 02:44 PM Yes, indeed. And he wasn't so drunk to know that he didn't wanna watch another orientation film, even if it WAS from another station! :D
:24:
And when he did want to watch it, it was too late... His meditative expressions in the Hatch with Locke when he starts to realize that he (Locke) is wrong!
Save The Humans 09-11-2006, 03:06 PM The look on his face as what he was reading in those computer printouts added up to!
"I think I crashed your plane."
Poor Desmond! :sob:
Lea_Lost 09-11-2006, 03:25 PM And it turned only worse, when Locke didn't believe him! You can see the shades of disaster:
disquiet, worry, fright, horror, desperation, panic!
Save The Humans 09-11-2006, 03:29 PM And, finally, acceptance--of the sacrifice he had to now make.
And the Emmy voters chose NOT to award him the Best Guest Actor Emmy.
Some things just boggle the mind.

That Christian Clemenson better be good, brotha! Never saw him, so can't tell.
But Des had so many expressions that just shouted for the Emmy!
