Well i was thinking of theories about the others and realised there was no real thread to post them in the Uk section. So please post ideas about them here. No spoilers either.

One of the thing i thought about is how much do they actually know about the survivors? They know thier names, even if they didnt get a 'list'

After Maternaty leave i began to think the others are slightly scared of the losties:
1.) When Ethan was found out, he fled extremely quick.
2.) It would have been easy to go back and capture Aaron or Claire but they didnt.
3.) I assume they thought it was the survivors that found the medical Hatch and took back Claire (not Alex) and this is the reason they abandoned it.
4.) They could confront all the the survivors together but tricked Micheal out and confronted Jack, Locke and Sawyer

I have no idea who they are, but think they move like the VC - Charlie if you will ;) - subterranean.

Well this is my theory, its also on the general theories section, hope you like it! I haven't seen maternity leave yet, so its a theory based before it!

The Other War

I believe that the 'Losties' are caught up in a secret war, which is being fought between the Hanso Foundation and the Dharma Inititive.

Dharma used to be a research group for the hanso foundation, back when it was oringinally founded by the De'groots. Dharma used the Island for testing because it has miraculous healing powers which they could research and try to find the ultimate vaccine if you will. However something went wrong and they also discovered the most deadly virus that could effect man. Hanso saw this as an oppertunity to harvest the vaccine and the virus, to then release the virus into the world, which would then lead into the sale of the vaccine through Widmore pharmacueticals, which would amount to a giant profit.

However this is highly unethical and Dharma did not agree, neither did Alvar Hanso and he was murdered in 2002 by Mittleverk who then took over the foundation.

Dharma saw it their duty to protect the people and hide the virus on the Island, so the Hanso Foundation were unable to harvest it. The Dharma 'others' used an installed electromagnetic generator on the Island to creates an invisible shield so no one can access or escape the Island. However in order for this to be kept constant it must be activated every 108 minutes, or by entering the code and pushing the button (this is what Desmond means by saving the world).

The 'Losties' are not aware of this war, however it does not mean they are a coincidence. Each 'Lostie' has their own skills and strengths, which the Dharma 'others' can manipulate and use, for example Sayid was a communications officer and a torturer, Walt is psychic and Hurley can be a source of funding etc.. .The Dharma 'others' can then take who they want, when the are needed.

I do believe however that some people on the plane, are not innocent and are agents for Hanso. People such as Libby she acts suspiciously around Hurley, she doesn't have her own flashback (because it would reveal her intentions) and she's just too nice all the time! I also think Christian Shephard is an agent who was hired after he lost his job, he is not dead he was just frozen using cryogenics, this is why Jack could not find his body. Lastly the Pilot, who dileberatly flew thousands of miles off course to where the Island was believed to have been. This is why the monster/security system killed the pilot, because he worked for Hanso, the Monster knew this because it scans peoples flashbacks to see if they have had any prior involvement with the Hanso Foundation and kills them if they did, this is why Locke and Eko were not harmed during their encounter.

Any Thoughts?

heh - very enlightening! could be pretty close to the truth in some parts - the whole Dharma initiative has become twisted by some means.

All i would pick out of that is the electromagnetism bit - not Dharma generated, and something that existed initially on the island (see the Orientation film). Also wouldn't explain the Black Rock. I believe its the islands freakiness that prompted the experiments, not the experiments that prompted the freakiness.

I also believe Jack is right on the 'button' - why would they put something so fundamental down to the whim of one guy? Too risky.
