Are the authors of the LOST novels told what to include in the novels? at the end of the books there always seems to be a few un-answered questions...will those be answered in the show? have any of the writters of LOST approved the books

The writers' assisstants read the books and give their approval I think. I believe Gregg Nations (script supervisor) is involved in the process as well.
I agree that I hope more of them come out. I really like them.

I've read the first two. Some of the characters described in the books, I think, show up as extra's in some of Season 1 episodes. Anyone else notice this?

I'm not sure Gregg's involved, I thought I read something where he said they "weren't particularly high quality" or something like that. Might be mistaken/misquoting.

I may have been wrong about that. I can't remember if I read that he's involved or not.

Now you made me curious - I remember Gregg mentioned the books, but I can't remember what he wrote exactly... *goes off trying to find the quotes*
Once I realized that Bad Twin was going to have elements that overlapped with the show, I read through it and gave my suggestions on things. I was able to get a couple of small things changed that the writer obviously didn't know about the show and only the die-hard fans would notice, but it's all in the details, right? And I had all those names, business names and addresses checked just like it was a regular script.
Yes, I did read "Bad Twin." (Actually, some of my notes were incorporated because the author was a little bit off concerning "Lost" mythology.)
My understanding, and I could always be wrong, is that Gary Troup was the guy sucked into the jet engine in the first episode. So unfortunately we will not being seeing him anymore, and I doubt that Cindy will be either.
I did see the Hanso ad, and I was amused by it, too. I thought the book was okay, nothing great but not horrible (like those Lost tie-in books -- those are just bad). If fans enjoy it, then I guess it's a success. I did like the stuff about the "Cindy" character since we know her and have spent time with her. But for the most part I would guess it's better to take it all with a grain of salt.

That's probably what I was thinking back to. He read Bad Twin. Thanks Starrox!
