View Full Version : Anyone catch the reference to The Office?
enigmaboy 02-09-2005, 08:28 PM I don't know how many of you caught it, but there was a slight nod to The BBC series The Office . When Charlie asks the girl he was on a date with where her old man was, she said he was probably out buying a paper company in Slough. If you've ever seen The Office, the show takes place at a paper company in Slough. Kudos the writing team for paying a small tribute to a great show.
kingpause 02-09-2005, 08:30 PM Hey, I think I posted on the same thing, like, simultaneously. Cool.
enigmaboy 02-09-2005, 08:30 PM Why yes, yes you did. Good to see there are some other folks with great taste. ;)
Pulpy Austinite 02-09-2005, 09:09 PM yah, that was awesome!
eggbeater 02-09-2005, 09:12 PM i can't believe anyone else got that. i can make that dream come true, to, aka for you.
welshmuse 02-09-2005, 10:12 PM I caught it too!!! Another reason to LOVE JJ Abrams. :)
I knew he was a fan of the Office--last year he had Ricky Gervais guest start on Alias!
Love it when JJ puts in little things for the fans, like when "You all Everybody" played on Alias. :)
lyle21 02-09-2005, 10:19 PM yeah!
Hallie_Marie 02-09-2005, 10:51 PM i caught it too, it made me really happy for some reason. i miss the office :'(
ef ay cue 02-09-2005, 11:41 PM When she said that I was like, "David Brent, YES!"
Glad to know there are other fans of The Office here.* Great show.
Crowspeaker 02-10-2005, 12:13 AM They also gave nods to Arrested Development and "Steve Jackson" games.
Sorry I can't give an exact line about AD, but I said to my wife, "Did you get that?" but I was so wrapped up that I can't remember it now.
r4stl1n 02-10-2005, 12:22 AM Oh, and don't forget, Charlie and Lucy bickering. Wasn't that from a Peanuts comic strip... Charlie Brown and Lucy Van Pelt? They were doomed from the start.
Or what about the ring on Charlie's finger? A six-pointed star. Wasn't Claire into the occult and astrology and mythology and such things? They must have been meant to get together.
nkcmycroft 02-10-2005, 08:45 AM I caught The Office reference immediately, "Paper company in Slough!" That was great. Maybe the next crazy guy (ala, Ethan) could be played by Martin Freeman (Tim) or Mackenzie Cook (Gareth) Oh, how I miss that show. But, I have heard good things about the upcoming American version, although I am sure that it won't be as good.
Crowspeaker 02-10-2005, 09:29 AM My wife remembered what the Arrested Development nod was.
As Charlie and Jin were walking through the jungle right before Jin gets whacked, Charlie says "onyong", hello in Korean. In AD, the other characters refer to the adopted Korean boy as Onyong because they don't know his name and think that is what he keeps saying.
