View Full Version : What brought you to Lost?
surreality_fan 11-17-2004, 01:09 PM How did you end up a Lost addict?
A penchant for hobbitses?
Faithful Party of Fiver?
Alias?
A diehard follower of BuffyandAngeldom?
Some other connection?
As for me... all of the above:
Me likeses hobbitses...* Fan of PoF the early years... Got into Alias just before I heard about Lost (only one not going nuts for new eppys... gives me time to catch up)... diehard BuffyandAngeler...*
Speaker 11-17-2004, 01:12 PM I came for the JJ and the Fury...
But I stayed for the Javi...
Tari Luinwe 11-17-2004, 01:22 PM I personally came for Dominic. But I am staying cause the show is incredible and I've become a huge fan of Jorge Garcia aka Hurley. He is an awesome person and actor.
Willowy 11-17-2004, 01:37 PM Because I heard Fury was writing.
Gihugic B/A/F fan for nine years.
I'm not a shipper, I couldn't care less about the two leads. I came and am staying because the writing is good, I'm interested in the other characters, and this show doesn't insult my intelligence.
~Lexi~ 11-17-2004, 01:42 PM Interested for Dom.... Sealed deal with Ian and Foxy... stayed, because it's an awesome show!
~Lexi~
I came because the promos looked interesting.* Never heard of Fury or any of the other writers prior to coming here.* I liked Dom in LOTRs but he wasn't my fav and I did see a few PoF eppys, but nothing to get excited about.* Also didn't really get into Buffy or Alias.* The show just looked interesting and when I watched the pilot, it was awesome.
I love the symbolism and foreshadowing (my English profs would be proud lol)
Sherry 11-17-2004, 01:49 PM Not a huge TV watcher anymore...or atleast grownup TV...(I've seen every episode of Lizzie McGuire and Kim Possible). *But I still get the TV guide and the one I look forward to all year is the Fall preview...saw the write-up for Lost and thought it sounded interesting. *And here I am...My name is Sherry and I am a Lost addict...
Karrie 11-17-2004, 01:52 PM I had been hearing about it for a while in the Roswellian world on account of Emilie de Ravin being in it. I wasn't planning on watching it because I'm not really that into TV. I've liked only a handful of shows. My fiance was wanting to watch it but he's always working at 8pm on Wednesdays so when they aired parts 1 and 2 of Pilot on a Saturday night, I taped it for him. I ended up watching it as it was taping and enjoyed it. Just kept on watching.
k8cre8 11-17-2004, 01:57 PM J.J. as the creator, was the first thing, and I recognized a few writers' names, and then I looked at the cast list, and saw Daniel Dae Kim and Dom.
Then Fury signed on, and that cemented it for me.
Of course, the Fall previews before it aired, also confirmed some of my early optimism for the show, and, well, all that stuck.
kingpause 11-17-2004, 01:57 PM Big fan of Alias, plus early write-ups of the show held promise.
I also thought it was cool that Yoon-jin Kim from Shiri and Ardor was going to be on American tv. With the films Yesterday and Rush! also under her belt, she's becoming the queen of the mysteriously-one-word-titled movies and shows.
RockedSocks 11-17-2004, 02:18 PM Actually, I have a cousin who is a 14-year-old rabid Dom Monaghan fangirl, it was all she talked about for ages, and so when the pilot was on, I thought "oh, this is that show she was talking about, I should watch." And whaddya know, turned out to be the best thing on TV this season!
Lost_In_New_York 11-17-2004, 02:43 PM I've always been a fan of disasters flicks/shows and I'm also afraid of flying (though I do fly on occasion).
wolfdog 11-17-2004, 03:49 PM I watched because I thought the promo's looked cool and Fury was one of the better writers on Angel.
Tabby 11-17-2004, 04:07 PM Fell in love w/ Firefly (thanks to me mum), thought I'd try Angel . . .* entire Buffyverse later, read on Whedonesque (I just lurk) that Jeffrey Bell was going to Alias -- thought OK, I'll try that -- shoot.* Shouldn't have started the DVD's before season 3 even came out.* (Of course I'm all caught up now* :D)* Then I heard about Lost -- Abrams.* Fury.* Terry O'Quinn.* Daniel Dae Kim.* What more could a girlie ask for??* Even better -- it lived up to my I-thought-impossible-to-meet expectations.
BTW, Willowy -- "Gihugic"?* Totally stealing your word.* ;D
Empress 11-17-2004, 04:20 PM I am a HUGE fan of Alias and JJ Abrams, but I actually wasn't going to watch this show because I didn't want to get into any new shows this season.* I knew this show was the most likely to hook me in like a junkie to crack, and I was going to avoid it at all costs.* Then I got a call from my best friend (and fellow Alias fanatic) after the series premiere saying I HAD to watch the show, and that it was as good as, if not better than, Alias.* Well at that point I could resist no longer, and succombed to the temptation that is LOST.
MyStique 11-17-2004, 04:26 PM It was a cross between a Hobbit and my Buffy/Angel Love (obsession)
kristie 11-17-2004, 04:32 PM It was a cross between a Hobbit and my Buffy/Angel Love (obsession)
wow.. exactly my answere.. just add a preg. alien to the list LOL
just the fact that the show looked awesome..
it Emilie DeRaven that initially got my attention tho:)
Willowy 11-17-2004, 04:37 PM Heh, Tabby, you go right ahead! Its all about the words, right? ;D
emaleythe 11-17-2004, 04:46 PM I first heard about it through sites about Dominic. But when I started hearing about the premise, I knew I would have found my way to this show anyway. After seeing the crazy awesome pilot, I was hooked and I've stayed only because the show is addictive, and better than anything I've seen in 10-15 years on tv.
SpookyGal 11-17-2004, 04:47 PM Big big big Buffy/Angel fan. I had doubts that I could love it as much as those two shows but I was wrong. It's the best show on TV this year!
lordess_renegade 11-17-2004, 04:49 PM Hobbitses!
Actually, I was moving away to school this year, and I swore up and down that I wasn't going to watch any new shows....but I went home for my first visit, and my mother had oh-so-conveniently taped the pilot....so I just had to watch it....and I was hooked.
::)
Andrea 11-17-2004, 04:54 PM I got hooked on the endearing but painfully underrated acting of Ian Somerhalder while watching (or more accurately, torturing myself with) the third season of Smallville, in which his work was one of the few bright spots. (Note to Ian: I would've even sat through Fearless for you, kid.) Also, I'm a huge, HUGE HUGE Harold Perrineau fan since his scene-stealing days on Oz. So I would've tuned in and checked out the show just for the 2 of them.
But mostly, I'm a sucker for excellent post-apocalyptic scenarios, a la Jeremiah, The Stand, Alas Babylon, Day After Tomorrow, et al, so the premise of the series itself and the compelling way in which it's all playing out are what made this appointment television for me.
After Angel ended I gave up on TV. Then I started seeing Lost plugged around the Buffy fandom...heard Fury was writing and knew I had to check it out.
Pretty much if I dont have at least one show to obsess over...I dont know what I would do with all the spare time :o. Get a life???
Lunacat 11-17-2004, 05:38 PM I first heard about Lost from various Dom sites, and then upon hearing that JJ was also working on the project I finally went and rented all 3 seasons of Alias. Loved it. Became even more interested in the show (if that was even possible) after hearing about all the Buffyverse people involved. Lost has made the blow of Angel's demise a little easier to take. ;)
Merry 11-17-2004, 06:00 PM Well I heard of it very early because Dom was in it... and I wouldn't miss a project of my favorite actor of LotR. Then I learnt that it was a JJ Abrams show and, even though I've never watched an episode of Alias (yet) I knew it as a reference. So I started to watch it. And got immediately addicted to it. And noticed that there was "Mercutio" in the show too! So thank you Dom because you're the reason I heard about the show in the first place!
And now I advertise the show by writing to my friends that it's awesome and that they just have to watch it... in 2005, when it'll air in France.
gillygorge 11-17-2004, 06:00 PM I originally came for the plane crash and stayed - because I couldn't help it be sucked in by the flashbacks and character development. *The hot men don't hurt but, honestly, it is such a character driven show that I have been totally sucked in. *And, ok, I'll admit it - I liked the scary monster...errr...not monster thing. * ::)
Gilly
surreality_fan 11-17-2004, 06:12 PM Wow people have responded with such a terrific array of journeys to Lost!!!
Some I hadn't even thought of in my intro. post for this topic.
Thank you for all of your wonderful journeys into Lostdom :)
Goofeesnax 11-17-2004, 06:37 PM I'd heard JJ was writing some Survivor-esque thing and wasn't really interested because all I want from him is more Alias, BUUUUUuuuut one of my best friends and my cousin told me about it and how good it was and mentioned that my other friend's cousin was on it (Harold Perrineau is my friend Doug's cousin) and I always watch anything Harry is in. I actually got to interview him years ago for a crappy little hip hop magazine (that doesn't exist anymore) right after he did Romeo and Juliet with Leo D. That's one cool cat.
Then I found out about Dom and The Fury and Kate looked hot and I really fell for Claire, then add in great story and amazing character development and WOOT WOOT what else does a brother need?
Jorge is hella cool to and I really dig the fact they have someone who isn't a swizzle stick with hair gel on a tv show. Give the big brothers some love!
The show has it all...except ninjas.
They need ninjas damnit!
NINJAS!
Tygrus 11-17-2004, 07:09 PM Hobbits, the good B/A writers, the fact that my the only show I watched religiously got cut (ANGEL), and really good advertising. The fact that my baby sis and mom were/are both interested in watching it helps a lot, too
Starrox 11-17-2004, 07:40 PM Well, I first became interested in Lost when I heard of J.J. Abrams' involvement. Then I saw quite a few familiar names on both the cast and crew list and decided I simply had to give it a try! That try ended up being some strange sort of addiction, especially after I found out about this page...
So I guess it was a combination of a penchant for hobbitses, being a faithful Party of Fiver and a diehard follower of BuffyandAngeldom plus Alias... ;)
Animalistic 11-17-2004, 07:59 PM I was a BTVS and AtS fan from the start.* I never thought there would be another quality show on television, but to my surprise LOST was aired and I'm hooked.
What got my attention, I must admit,* was Fury!* Love the writing, love the acting, it is great television (thank god I was worried reality TV was going to take over the airwaves) :P
Goofeesnax 11-17-2004, 09:35 PM I just have to repeat...NINJAS!
The show needs NINJAS!
Andrea 11-17-2004, 09:42 PM Well, that goes without saying. Everything is better with Ninjas.
Another thing that brought me to the show was peer pressure. Everybody I know hyped this show for months before the premiere - I had a few friends who saw the pilot at ComicCon and everything. See? Peer pressure isn't always a bad thing. =)
JY Yang 11-18-2004, 12:01 AM I'm here because I'm a huge Mira Furlan fan, and after hearing that she had a guest starring spot on this show I went to check the official site out, and realized that Dom and Daniel were on the regular cast. Neat!
Then after the first four episodes I was hooked. Still hooked, and will probably be hooked for the rest of my life. Such it is with me!
amystar 11-18-2004, 02:58 AM I was a huge Angel fan, so I heard about the show that way. Dom being on it interested me, but I really came aboard for Terry O'Quinn and Harold Perrineau. I like that Daniel Dae Kim is a regular too. At first I wasn't sure it would be my thing, but after seeing Walkabout, I was hooked. I stay for all the characters and the writing.
NINJA!!!!
Oh, and I <heart> Mira Furlan too! ;)
maryblue 11-18-2004, 02:59 PM Well, for Dominic Monaghan at first, and because I had heard many a great things about JJ Abrams and wanted to watch one of his shows.
Turns out Charlie isn't my favorite character as I though he would be. I'd still watch if they killed him off, only not without a few rants. ;) I love the show for what it is, I love the writers and JJ Abrams. Also the cast is amazing.
LearnToFly 11-18-2004, 04:31 PM I came because I stumbled upon the Saturday night pilots. I thought it looked good but I wasn't completely sure if I wanted to watch it. But once I saw Dominic I figured I should stick around and see what happens. Now I'm completely hooked.
Varda 11-18-2004, 07:54 PM Sblomie (what i feel like calling Dom today).
and i love Alias, Angel/Buffy, all those. good times...
pikameta 11-18-2004, 08:57 PM I am a HUGE Roswell fan and since Emilie was going to be on this show, I figured i might as well check it out...
plus the promos were hella awesome!!
:) Meta
crazymoose 11-18-2004, 10:30 PM I needed an excuse to not have to watch anymore Star Trek episodes. Besides that I have only seen a couple of Buffys, I did not care for Angel or Alias. Never heard of the writers before.
Oh...I like the accents on the show. Putting actors in a sitcom with accents, hook, line and sinker. Got me.
Willowy 11-18-2004, 10:35 PM Oh brother crazymoose. Do some research, man. Accents? That's got to be the lamest reason ever.
Check out some dvds to expand your mind! This is quality stuff!
You really don't have any idea about the Whedonverse? You are really depriving yourself. Start with Buffy the Vampire Slayer dvds, and once you get to the fourth season, start with Angel.
There will be no turning back. If you have any intellect at all, you will be hooked, my friend.
GO! NOW! What are you waiting for?
JordanMcCoyIsLost 11-18-2004, 10:36 PM I'm a big fan of Alias, so when I heard it was by JJ, I had to watch. Plus it looked really good!
musiclady 11-18-2004, 11:05 PM I read about it in TV Guide- it was a TV Guide pick and they are usually spot on. Also the promos looked intriguing. After the first episode I was HOOKED like a drug addict (Dom!). :lol2: It's the new "must see TV" for me! ::)
ThinGnatVoices 11-19-2004, 03:27 PM I love the way this show has brought so many fans of other things together in one place.
I caught on to it because I read that Fury was involved. I came for the Fury and stayed for the fabulousness.
Believe it or not I had tuned out the show and its publicity until the ACTUAL DAY OF THE PILOT. I was at work and decided on a lark to get my roommate to tape it. I think I read something really positive about it on AINT IT COOL NEWS. It was like a bolt from the blue, I just suddenly decided I was interested.
I think its because I heard someone got sucked into an engine.
Yeah, that's it. That's it exactly.
(I've since stuck around for any number of reasons: fan of THE STAND, fan of Buffy and Angel, fan of LOTR and thus Dom, fan of RULES OF ATTRACTION and thus Ian, fan of SHIRI, and mostly I am a fan of anything that draws other fans together and give them something to think and talk about!)
Josh Holloway.
I knew of him before the show aired and I knew he'd been cast so I had to tune in. Didn't expect to get so hooked!
pot_and_bombs 11-21-2004, 07:14 PM I noticed that everyone and his dog had started freaking out over the new Dominic Monaghan show, and verily, I yet wallowed in the darkness of oblivion because I wasn't really a Dom fan.
But then I realized I was missing out on a ton of inside jokes (and God forbid that ever happen to ME) so I caved.
And man, I'm glad I did.
hai...i come here to lurk...
and to disarm potty bombs....
*sneaks up behind 'em and flips a switch*
hey...that one makes 'er dance like hurley....
:lol2:
cool
Carol 11-22-2004, 09:38 PM I'm here because of Fury (big B/A/F fan) but I'm here to stay because of everyone else too! Isn't word of mouth wonderful?
luckystar 11-24-2004, 11:08 PM I came across LOST totally by accident. I hadn't heard anything about it at all because I haven't watched much tv since Buffy/Angel went off air. So I was flipping through and Dom caught my eye. I stopped and went hunh there's Merry, it took 5 minutes and I was hooked. Once I found out who was invovled, I wasn't surprised that I got hooked immediately. I stay because I couldn't leave the show I love it, I'm too committed now. :blushing:
Zlatna 11-26-2004, 12:15 AM Mira Furlan
I'm a huge fan. I think she's an incredible actress., and I can't get enough of her work, so when I found out she was going to be in at least one episode of LOST I started watching.
And I'm hooked.
mrsbeck 11-28-2004, 12:31 AM Ian had me hooked on the show from the get-go, but I have to say that I really love every facet of the show. From the actors I already knew, to the ones I didn't, to the writers/producers and the visual quality of the show - everything about the show is just awesome in my book. I'd watch anything for Ian, but this is one project I watch because I truly love it. :)
kaidysoft 11-28-2004, 01:39 AM One day, I saw this clip on TV - thought it was a movie trailer...until the Coming on ABC followed...this looked to good to be just a TV show!
So, I taped week one (wasn't home) and when I watched it...well, you can see that I have become somewhat an AVID fan, so no need to explain the obvious.
After the first episode, I immediately recognized some of the cast from prior works (Dom, Harold, Terry, especially), and Naveen & Josh completely caught my eye. It wasn't until a few weeks later when I discover the ABC message board and this site that I realized what other shows these writers/producers had worked on (I was a huge Felicity fan).
So, basically, the show drew me in from the get go, took hold, and won't let go!
kaidy
BurningStar4 11-30-2004, 01:29 AM I had seen a billboard advertising the show back in the spring I believe, and it was just the picture of the survivors standing in what seemed to be Earth, but there was nothing around them, didn't even know what the show would be about but it looked cool because they looked like they had been in some sort of traumatic ordeal, and it reminded me of "The Stand" when they are just standing in the middle of the desert alone...and I was like "hey that looks cool I'll have to check it out in the Fall" and I did, and here I am, an addict.
MightyBiffer 12-01-2004, 02:27 AM The concept of mystery/sci-fi/island seemed intrigging - but what really got me was (with apologies to the lack of PC) the ad with Kate in her underwear! I still don;t understand why I got hooked. The show seems like family.
Prncssleia 12-01-2004, 03:48 PM TV Guide!!!
They said it would be good, and then I saw Foxy was in it....
I was a huge PO5 fan back in the day. So now I get my Foxy on Wednesdays and my Wolfy on Mondays (Everwood), and hopefully I never have to hear Lacey Chabert's whiny voice again (except Family Guy reruns...)
Stephanie
themarvelousmattyd 12-03-2004, 04:16 PM I'm a big fan of the outdoors, and esp mountains and jungle (my avi pic was froma trip i took into villages in the Yucatan jungle), and the fact that it had a hobbit sucked me in a little more, plus it has o'quinn, and he's always good, and it looked like something good. Not reality-based or sex-centric. So I was hooked.
LockeMeUp 12-03-2004, 04:39 PM I saw a few ads for it. It looked like some high quality stuff, so I watched it. I was hooked within the first 15 minutes. I knew I was hooked for good when, at the end of the first episode (and every other ep) I was really bleeped off that the hour went by so quickly.
Then I fell in love with Lockey-baby. *sigh*
Bescky 12-03-2004, 05:26 PM I came since Dominic Monaghan was in it, then after awhile it was because the show is really good.
beijing29650 12-03-2004, 05:35 PM It was a complete accident for me. I happened to have the TV on while working on one of my graduate school projects. Within the first 5 minutes of the pilot episode all school work had been forgotten. The show captured me immediatly ... and I have been addicted ever since.
bigbadmonster 12-03-2004, 06:19 PM I was first intrigued by the concept....just say "stranded on a desert island" and I'm there. Love Lord of the Flies. Then I heard that it was headed by JJ, and I'm a HUGE Felicity fan, although I've never watched Alias...is this weird? Then I heard through various media that the pilot was so good that it could be released as a stand alone movie, and I was completely hooked (before the first episode). I'm sure most of us who heard about it knew we were going to love it before it ever aired.
boo :P
PS: Like many of you, I also LOVE Buffy, LOTR, and all things fantasy. The thing that really keeps me hooked on this show is looking forward to different POV's. My favorite kind of fantasy books are those that have different POV's for each chapter. GRRM anyone?
desperatelyxlost 12-06-2004, 01:35 AM I saw the commericals for the show and thought it looked like a show I wanted to check out. I saw Dom was in it (I recently saw the LOTR movies) and was like so that's what he's doing now that "Rings" is over. I saw the pilot epi and was hooked from there. Now have huge crushes on Dom and Ian lol!
LemonDrop 12-06-2004, 09:55 AM I'm an Alias fan...and figured anything by JJ can't be bad! Glad I was right for a change. ;D
Tidmore 12-06-2004, 10:31 AM OK Honest time:
My name is Tidmore, and I....and I'm....I'm a TV addict!
There I said it, I love TV and Movies, and anything entertainment related. Maybe thats why I want to be an Entertainment Lawyer.
Anyways I loved Buffy and Angel, and I loved Felicity and Alias. So JJ's name drew me in, but then I read the concept and thought...sounds good to me. Then I grew more and more exicted the more I heard about it. Then once I watched that first episode I was addicted. and Luckily the first day this site was opened I stumbled onto it by pure accident and found a community to help me with my addiction.
Really this is my LA meeting...Lostketeers Anonymous.
nxmrif 12-06-2004, 10:41 AM I was watching the World Series (I Love My Red Sox!! ;D) and I saw the commercial about 1,700 times. It looked good and we watched the pilot. So, here I am. :)
babygotbackgammon 12-06-2004, 02:56 PM Although I was already a fan of Dom's work in the LOTR movies, Ian's work in Rules of Attraction & Smallville, and especially Harold's work in Oz, The Matrix trilogy, and Baz Luhrman's Romeo & Juliet, it was honestly the previews that drew me in more than anything. I've never watched any other JJ productions until now, I wasn't familiar with any of the writing staff...but I am completely H()()KED on this show. It's easily my favorite TV drama since Twin Peaks.
BTW, did anybody notice that Terry O'Quinn - who plays Locke (duh) - was in OLD SCHOOL!?! ha ha
hehehe. ok I knew Lost was coming out, but never payed attention to when.
One day, I was channel hoppin and found the re-run for Pilot-2. and thats how I got hooked. well, there were other reasons involved like....ahem..DOM!.. Matthew Fox.. hmm..ohh yeah!!!! JORGE! omg I love HURLEY!
A suggestion... we should make a Hurley shrine in this site. seems only fair. 8)
JJAbramsFan61 12-08-2004, 11:07 PM JJ Abrams, although I would have eventully found the show anyway. Alias was one of two shows I watched regularly and now I have 3 shows to watch everyweek.
rabgal 12-09-2004, 02:40 AM Came for the promos .... stayed for the "Jin" :P
MadisonFire 12-09-2004, 02:49 AM Dom. No Question. I stay for the writing...and Dom.
Man_U_Fan 12-09-2004, 02:56 AM J.J.
and OKAY! I admit it *blushes* Dom.
Jacks Dad 12-09-2004, 10:24 AM Huge Alias fan, and i knew that Lost was JJs so I had to at least check it out.
Very happy I did.
MannyU 12-09-2004, 06:32 PM Came for the Dom, stayed for the Jorge. And Dom. But mostly Jorge. HURLEY!
Willowy 12-09-2004, 11:41 PM Heh heh MannyU I love it when folks have funny avatars.
Yours is, because...What? I mean it's just...WHAT?
heh heh I love stuff like that.
I forget the poster's name, but they had this hi-larious avatar. It was a clip, and one penguin pushed the other penguin into the icy water. You had to see it, but it was the funniest thing I've ever seen as an avatar. Just THWAP! with the stiff little wing, and in he goes... ha ha ha...
hooo. Guess you had to see it. ;)
adrienne 12-10-2004, 10:28 PM I saw the previews like all summer long and I thought it looked like a cool show. Then I saw the commercial with Dom when he was like "Guys, where are we?" I was like, I'm so watching that show when it starts. I even have my entire family watching it with me. They thought it looked dumb but they actually really like it.
lostcause 12-11-2004, 12:12 AM The premise was actually the first thing that got me interested.
Later, I heard Daniel Dae Kim and Ian Somerhalder were in the cast.
Then, I heard David Fury was writing for the show. I became a Fury fan after getting sucked into the Buffy/Angel verse. I didn't watch either show when they originally aired, but I turned in faithfully for every episode of "Firefly" until it was cancelled. :(
Now, I've been sucked into the Abrams world, and have been renting all the past seasons of "Alias" on DVD.
Oh, and I'm very happy to see Mira Furlan. I've been a huge fan since B5.
isisfrog 12-11-2004, 08:31 AM I came for Dom and stayed for the story. I remember thinking, "well, I'll at least give it a few episodes and see if I like it...after all, it might grow on me like TNG & DS9 did..." Both of which later became OBSESSIONS!!!! Funny thing, I never expected to like either of them...or LOST.
Got sucked in by a solid story again! But I'm not complaining!
MorwenLaicoriel 12-11-2004, 03:10 PM Actually, it's kind of a funny story. I'm a big LOTR fan, but lately I've been out of the loop when it comes to news. Then one time me and my family went to the mall for the food court (they have a great food court there, and Mom was feeling tired). So I'm sitting there, eating chinese and half-heartedly watching the olympics on the big screen TV they have next to a sporting goods store.
And then, on comes an ad for Lost. I hadn't heard anything about the show, but I think I thought "Oh, it's just another badly-done sci-fi show on TV"...until Dominic Monghan came on. I dropped my fork, eyes bugging out, and pointed at the screen, yelling "OH MY GOSH! IT'S DOM!!!"
My brother, turning around after the ad was almost over, didn't realise I was pointing at the big TV and thought I saw the REAL Dominic Monaghan. He grabs a napkin and stares frantically looking around for a pen, knowing that I wouldn't go get an autograph for myself. He was a little irratated when I said "No, no, I mean, he was on the TV."
At this point for several days I wandered around saying "He WAS on TV, right? He IS going to be in a TV show, right? I didn't just make this up?" Then I saw the commerscial again, freaked out, and watched the show. XD
Actually, though, even if Dom wasn't in it, I'd probably still watch it. It's a great show...and I've been needing something to watch ever since I got out of Smallville.
WhiteSapphire 12-11-2004, 03:21 PM It was totally the commercials that got me interested--the great effects and the slightly weird stuff happening. I honestly tuned into the first show because there was nothing else that I wanted to watch that Wednesday (Law & Order must have had a rerun), and, in watching. I found myself actually a little scared as to what was going to happen. It was so Stephen King / X-Files like. I had been out of that genre for so long, it feels good to be back. :)
tracy 12-11-2004, 03:30 PM I'm a HUGE lord of the rings fan so I'd say Dom brought me to lost. but i stayed for the story, it's so amazing! And well for Dom and Ian. lol.
Mygirl 12-11-2004, 07:27 PM My sister-in-law knowing I am a huge fan of mystery/drama told me about it. Actually saw the 1st & 2nd
pilots, the 2nd time they aired...and I was hooked. Never watched Buffy, etc. but I am a fan of Charmed, now that Shannon Dorehty (sp)is gone. I can't say which Lost Character I like the best, except for Swayer. And I'm no silly schoolgirl
Dagirlindajeans 12-11-2004, 09:52 PM well...gotta admit.....it was because of my favorite wee hobbit. I blame him entirely!
JennieJamJar 12-13-2004, 09:43 AM Long story short: Lord of the Rings fan from childhood + Hetty Wainthropp and Stockport, So Good They Named It Once fan = Dom Monaghan fan ---> heard he was doing Lost, thought I'd support a great actor ---> heard David Fury was writing, thought "that show will be fantastic!" (HUGE Whedonverse fan) ---> saw some clips and was instantly hooked.
And then I saw Kate, and. Well. I stayed at first for the, y'know, gorgeous. Saw Claire, more gorgeous to stay for. Then, I saw the show and stayed for the story, the character development, the intensity, the mystery, the writing, the excellent acting... and so on. It's so rare to see truly quality-made television drama, and when we see it it's time to latch on and love it. And so I do.
Irish Red 12-13-2004, 11:38 AM I'll admit it-I didn't see the first two episodes, but hearing my sister talk about it got me into it. I was a huge fan of the X-Files, so this show really appeals to me (the mysteriousness, the creepy spooky parts, the slow story line that everyone tries to figure out), that, and it's not a reality show! :lol2:
jennifer81 12-14-2004, 02:32 PM *sigh* I wish I could tell you I came to Lost through the writing or something.
But it' s simple.
Jen = huge LOTR freak. *pokes Merry and Pippin*
But it's a great show, I love it. A lot.
Ceirdwyn 12-14-2004, 02:42 PM TOQ and Fury.
Originally I didn't even want to watch the pilot of some kind of 'Survivors in series'.
But oh well. Somehow, I thought I owed it to them to at least try to watch it.
JustAnotherRockGod 12-14-2004, 09:47 PM I'm a hobbit fan and that's what it was at first but now beyond Mr. Monaghan the show is awesome.
alk31173 12-14-2004, 10:08 PM I am a huge LOTR fan but...............I honestly stumbled upon the show while channel surfing. I have never watched Alias or Angel or Buffy, etc... I was so intrigued by the show I just kept watching and became addicted. I love thinking up theories and now I have my best friend hooked too. :)
green_queen 12-14-2004, 10:14 PM Originally it was Dom, I downloaded the first episode pretty much solely because it was his show. I heard that David Fury was writing for it, which also drew me in because I'm a big Buffy fan. Now, though, I think the show's brilliant completely on its own merits, probably the best new show in years.
Wile E 12-14-2004, 10:57 PM I am also a LOTR fan. I frequent a particular LOTR fansite that kept talking about Lost, the premise sounded interesting so I was looking forward to seeing it. I started hearing about all the other people involved in it which gave it a lot of potential, then I started to see the ads and they looked good. Then I watched the first episodes and I was hooked.
ELTaino74 12-15-2004, 12:24 PM I honestly have to say that I was not a big fan of LOTR, Party of Five, Alias, Buffy or Angel. What brought me to LOST was by a friend. I watched the 3episode and i was hooked. Ever since then i've been watching it as much as i can and even go back to previous episode to make sure i haven't missed anything.
LOST... great series :lol2:
Nanse 12-15-2004, 03:19 PM What brought me to lost? Hmmm
To be honest, I was desperate for something new on TV. I like CSI and all, but I can only take so much crime drama before I'm bored out of my melon. Except for a few choice shows I despise reality TV. Sitcoms haven't done much for me in years, and with the demise of Angel the scif/fantasy genre has generally disappeared. Oh, and Alias wasn't coming back until January.
So on comes this commercial for a show with a completely different premise than anything on right now, that was made by J.J. Abrams, and had inklings of some possible scifi/fantasy/supernatural undertones. I was ready to bit. Worst think that could happen was I lose an hour or two of my time.
Turned out that the premiere hooked me completely and I've been (please pardon the bad pun) Lost in Lost ever since. The eps keep getting better and better, and I keep getting sucked in deeper and deeper.
And that is that in a nut shell. A rather large nutshell, but there you go.
Okay, shutting up now. ;D
Vynaca 12-20-2004, 10:52 PM The promos intrigued me and I knew I would definitely watch the Pilot. I'm a huge fan of LOTR and I knew Dom was in it but it's not the reason I wanted to watch it. I always though Dom would be the one who fell off the face of the earth after LOTR but I've been really impressed by him in Lost.
I've never watched Alias, Buffy, Angel, etc etc. This is the best dramatic series I've watched since the X-Files, IMO. (24 comes close. :))

:o are you sure you're not me, I read the topic title and knew exactly what I was going to type and then I saw it all written in your post already. Woah!
Everything pretty much applies except I watched only watched the first few episodes of 24 but then for a while we didn't have cable so I couldn't follow it. And I'm not so much a fan of Dom as a fan of the LOTR movies/book(s) in general.

LOL! We even have the same number of posts (until just now). The first and second seasons of 24 are worth renting. I got so hooked I watched the first season in a week! I actually found this website because of the only other messageboard I've ever posted at, www.tolkienonline.com Don't post there as much as I used to because I think we've exhausted all discussion - other than last week's release of the ROTK EE. If I see one more elf or hobbit I just might get on an Oceanic flight from Australia!
I look forward to speculating and theorizing here with you, a fellow Tolkien fan. Don't lose your cable again! ;D
IamLost 12-21-2004, 12:32 PM Actually, at first, it was because my children recognized "Merry" (Dominic Monaghan) in the commercials.* (Sorry, we are HUMUNGOUS Lord Of The Rings Fans!)* Then we actually WATCHED the commercials and thought it was all very mysterious and spooky and intriguing.*
Our family doesn't watch much of anything on TV because we don't have cable and with network television I want to watch shows WITH my children and not have to suddenly explain what it means when George Lopez's mother* says she "has the clap" during what network programming idiots call "family viewing hours"...URGH!!!!!!!)* We just buy lots of DVDs to watch at home.*
And I will say for the first four episodes, I wasn't sure if my 10 and 12 year old should be watching this...Kate was pretty bare in episode #2 (?), and then the Asian gal washing up and being "discovered", and then Dominic's confessions to the priest.......geez!* I thought, maybe this isn't a good show for them...but they love it, too!* And I did admire the "redemptive" quality in "The Moth", and appreciated the fact that he chose to throw his drugs in the fire, so it did facilitate some good conversation with the kids on the subject of drugs, what they can do to you and the stupid things you can do on them, and how hard a struggle it is to get off them.
So now we are all absolutely goofy on WEDNESDAY, making sure we've made no plans so we can sit down and watch LOST!* And I always hated cliff-hangers when I was a kid...but I don't seem to mind them "toying" with me now!!!
I gotta go bake some cookies!
Templeton 12-22-2004, 02:25 PM JJ Abrams, David Fury, and a cool, dramatic premise.
Doesn't everybody wonder how they could possibly survive on a deserted island without the internet? <g>
Templeton
gameoverman 12-23-2004, 12:24 AM Couple of things got me to watch the show:
1. I like to check out all genre shows, I'm trying to do my part to encourage more fantasy/sci-fi/horror instead of the usual crime and doctor shows.
2. I loved season 1 of Alias, and I was hoping Lost would have an equivalent start, seeing how J.J. Abrams is involved.
3. I like Survivor and was interested to see how a fictional survivor show would play out.
That's pretty much it. The cast, though I'm familiar with alot of them from previous shows, didn't become a draw until I actually saw the first episode. At that point, Evangeline Lilly guaranteed I would keep watching.
Hiram 12-23-2004, 01:58 AM I am almost embarrassed to say that I first tuned in because of the promos.
I have never seen an episode of Alias.
But, I own practically the entire Buffy series on DVD.
And I became a big fan of Angel after Buffy.
But, I never got into the Internet Fandom, and stuff.
I never even heard about the Bronze2 site until I came hear.
Then I got heavy into the ABC site before there was a thefuselage.com.
Then I came over to the linear board before there was a threaded board
and stayed. The LB took a little getting used to as I had never been a
poster before LOST, but, with the whole V.I.P. thing and the great people
I stayed. I left the ABC board with over 400 posts before thefuselage.com
was . . . now I've got over 800 here. So I guess you can say I've gotten
comfy here and it will take a lot to make me leave LOST.
Thanks J.J.Abrams for this site! And Karri and Artie too!
Peacock Spring 12-23-2004, 02:55 AM Well, the truth is that I hardly ever watch anything on TV...Survivor is just about it, literally. I saw the previews for the show, and thought it looked interesting, but then I forgot all about it. After the first episode (which I missed) my daughter told me how good it was, and so I decided to try to remember to watch the following Wednesday. I forgot again, but tuned in on the third one. I was so glad they replayed the pilot episode, but I wasn't too happy that they chose to skip the second one about Kate's past, because it's now the only one I haven't seen, and the feeling is like trying to catch up in class when you've been caught napping for a little while.
Hekawi 12-23-2004, 03:38 AM You know, Peacock, Kate's ep is the only one I haven't seen either! Somewhere there is a good synopsis of it, can't remember where.
This sure is a fun thread to read!
I read about the show in TV Guide, but would not have watched it if I hadn't been over at Whedonesque and read a snippet about Fury writing....what more could a Buffy/Angel fan ask for? oh, Nathan Fillion? Well, you can't have everything!
Willowy - that penguin avatar was wonderful - I believe it was 'Maddy's......
lostdreamer29 12-24-2004, 01:01 AM Definite Dom fan here! He was the real reason I was so interested in Lost, but after watching the first episode, I knew I was hooked on the whole package.*
elfdream 12-28-2004, 03:34 PM I don't watch a lot of tv so I wasn't familar with the other shows or the writers or producers.. I am however a huge LoTR fan and some of us decided we would watch all the LoTR actors in all their future projects, even if the project was something we wouldn't normally watch. I went to see Troy for example, and that is NOT my kind of thing. :lol2:
So Dom was going to be on this TV show so we had to watch it. I'm not sorry. Its turned out to be 'my kind of thing'. I'm kind of glad I get to see Dom every week. It gets kind of hard waiting months for movies to be released.
And the show just happens to be first rate.
Came for Dom, stayed because its good.
goloptious 12-28-2004, 10:08 PM I saw some previews before the show started and tried to watch it, but always forgot. Then I heard that JJ Abrams was doing it as well as Dom and so I made myself tune in and haven't been able to tear myself away since!!
Lostandlovingit16 12-29-2004, 01:04 AM I was told by multiple friends (one is a member here) that I HAD to watch it. So I did and I can't stop. ;D
hopelessdork 12-29-2004, 09:26 PM The promos caught my attention, so I was like "I have to watch that" and here I am today.
charlie_claire_luv 12-30-2004, 01:22 AM I must be truthful..I started watching because of Dom. When i saw the promos I wasn't sure I was going to like it but after I saw the first episode...I was hooked. So here I am living on the edge...but of course beign a buffy follower and hearing David was going to become a writer on the show.
The Partyman 12-30-2004, 01:38 AM Absolutely love Alias, so thought checking out JJ's new show might be worth a few hours, then when Fury joined the writing staff it became a must see. Saw the 2hr pilot in the summer and was instantly hooked.
smith2x 12-30-2004, 12:02 PM I am terrified of flying and usually do not watch shows about plane crashes but this one looked like much more than a plane crash. I am so glad I started watching. Now everyone thinks I've lost my mind because its all I can talk about. I don't get into some of the theorizing like lots of you do but enjoy reading what you guys think.
Can't wait to see what Boone and Locke found and what the "monster" is. Keep it coming!!!
I saw a bit of the pilot, part 2, and thought it looked okay. I didn't catch the most intrestring part, so I didn't really go out of my way to watch it.
Then when I heard everyone freaking out over the Charlie thing in the most recent episode, that really got me intrested. Maybe because I'm a Wheel of Time fan and thought Mat, I don't know... but sounded cool and I have not regret my decision to become a loyal fan in the least!
xenaekes 01-02-2005, 01:44 AM when i first saw previews for the show i thought it was another reality show, and i can't stand reality shows, then i saw a preview for the ep where claire is having nightmares about her baby (forgot name) and i saw dominic monaghan and thought "Dominic!!! he's a REAL actor, what's a REAL actor doing on a reality show?!"* so i watched it, saw it was far from a reality show, fell totally in love with teh whole show, and here i am (now trying to catch up on eps i missed, i'm missing a lot of stuff though with them skipping an ep though* :( )
desertislandgirl 01-02-2005, 02:36 AM I was bummed that Alias wasn't going to start till January (or 24 for that matter) and thought I'd tune in and see what was keeping so busy that he was withholding Alias from me! I didn't expect to like it at all, and the only other show I was watching this fall was Gilmore Girls - so I needed another show. :) I was completely hooked after the pilot!!!
Mygirl 01-02-2005, 04:20 PM My sister-in-law told me she watched the show and was hooked.* Since she is more of all the "brainy" shows like Discovery and the History channel...I had to watch the show!* That Saturday they aired both 1 and 2 of the pilots, and I was hooked!* As the other show I have been hooked on the last* 9 seasons, Stargate SG1 is winding down, I needed this* fix to slide right into.* I have never been so addicted to a show before * LOST is No. !* *
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * ** * * * :jump: :jump: :jump:
Isn't converting people fun? ;D
I'm on a crusade. I've converted only one but I have a vision :lol2: (they call it Lost)
Usagi 01-08-2005, 04:00 AM What brought me to LOST?
Those damn promos!! The poster were plastered every where in San Francisco. If it wasn't the group one it was the one of Jack/Charlie/Kate "missing" posters.
Also, when I started looking up more info about it and saw who was in it....
Terry O'Quinn=My X-Files fandom
Yoon-jin Kim= Shiri
Daniel Dae Kim= 24, Cradle 2 the grave and he does the voice to one character of my fave. video game
Jorge Garcia = BECKER!!
Dominic Monaghan = if I even have to write why.... =I
It was all about the cast. These people being in it made me get out of my shell and turn on my TV.
I haven't turned on my TV since UPN killed Jake 2.0 and before that was the X-Files.
My TiVO is finally being put to use. ;D
kermeeet 01-10-2005, 04:26 PM DOM
Was so impressed with him in LOTR, was looking at anything the cast was involved with.
saw the ad with Dom and I waited and waited for the show, then got hooked.
the strange way the show opened with Jack waking up confused me at first ,but then I got so hooked.
now i know about the Buffy/Angel connections and since I LOVED those shows, big bonus for me
kris
suzie 01-11-2005, 02:28 AM Truly, I started watching because I've always had a mondo fascination with the lost on desert island scenario- well, excepting Survivor- and I was tres excited when I found out a new [i][drama/i] about people on a desert island was going to run this season. The concept of the show was so interesting and exciting that I actually counted down the days to the pilot, based on promos and a little hearsay alone.
After I started watching LOST, it got even better because it was so much more than just a bunch of lovelys loving it up under the sun- there was actually exciting character and plot development always going on, and the format of the show- with the guessing games, and character backgrounds, portrayal of humanity post-trauma, creating a society in an isolated situation, etc. This is one of hte most ingenuitive and involving shows I've seen in a long while- if ever, and I am mos def hooked. It was also cool to see a really stellar assembled cast of people that I remembered from other shows or movies, and really great actors that I had never seen before and could appreciate newly.
CorellianScoundrel 01-11-2005, 12:38 PM They got me since I saw the first preview. I just couldn't wait for the show to start. Then, then my eyes saw this angel face, sweet, loving actress in the cast. Seeing Evangeline made want to watch it even more.
Besides I have been waiting for a show like this. They don't make and write shows like this anymore.
Writers, Producers, Directors, and the amazing cast, make this the best show on TV ever.
bri_nic23 01-11-2005, 07:38 PM i saw the previews fo lost thinking it would be okay....saw dom in the commercial saying "guys, where are we?" and i yelled to my husband................its a hobbit! we gotta watch and see if it will be any good!!! if not, we won't watch it anymore!
so we watched it..i was hooked about the time jack was running to the crash site!
then i got wind that jj abrams also does alias and when the premiere came on....i watched! my wednesday nights are now full thanks to those shows!!!!!
Ariana 01-12-2005, 04:08 PM DOM
Was so impressed with him in LOTR, was looking at anything the cast was involved with.
saw the ad with Dom and I waited and waited for the show, then got hooked.
the strange way the show opened with Jack waking up confused me at first ,but then I got so hooked.
I was doing much the same thing. Was so impressed with all the LOTR folks, I had to see whatever it was they were doing next. I remember the first time I saw a Lost promo with Dom's gorgeous face, I quite literally shrieked out loud.
So, I started watching for Dom, but continued because the plot, concept, and characters were so dang compelling.
Fury.
I keep watching because I feel like it. Geez... ::)
And Drew Goddard's soooo dreamy. I dig guys with only one ear.
dramapunk 01-14-2005, 02:46 AM I love sci fi dramas and it seemed like a show that could hold my intrest.
Also Dom is kind of a cutie.
georgiapeach81 01-14-2005, 10:22 AM Well, I wasn't in LOTR but I used to watch Party of 5 but my mom's the one who got me into it. I called her one day and asked her what she was watching and the rest is history. That was when White Rabbit was on. Later, I d/l the first four. Now, I love it!
awkwardjonas 01-14-2005, 10:28 AM What brought me here? Dom. I'm a LotR addict and he did a great job as Merry (and ok he's cute).
I wasn't expecting much out of this show.
I was proven wrong. I came because of Dom I'm staying because I'm addicted to the plot...
Lara Anonymous 01-14-2005, 10:34 AM I'm not much of a TV watcher, except for baseball and boxing. *But during something my husband was watching, I saw an ad for Lost and I was really intrigued. *I missed the pilot and the next few episodes I saw parts of, and I was intrigued enough to really start making an effort to catch it. *Then! I saw Walkabout and just about freaked. I'll never be the same, and I've been really hooked ever since. I've never had a plain old hour-long TV show give me so many ups and downs as that episode did, and left me feeling that Locke was my new creepy friend? possible enemy? long-lost Girl Scout troop leader? I'm obsessed...that character just LIVES for me. *He's in my living room.
When Buffy the Vampire Slayer reruns used to come on FX, I'd watch those when I could (I didn't have a tv for a long time, and now I live with my husband, who is a tv hog), and I always thought the writing was pretty ingenious. (I'm a writer so bad writing turns me off--one reason I don't like Desperate Housewives.) But I never went as far as figuring out who the writers were. *Now I'm intrigued that it's some of the same people. *It makes me glad that someone's out there NOT giving up on our culture, striving to get quality out there.
SO that's my story. * My name is Lara, and I'm a Lost addict.
dramapunk 01-14-2005, 04:26 PM theG Off topic I know but I love your icon to death.
bye the way my name is Dramapunk and I am LOST
WharffRat 01-14-2005, 04:29 PM A member here told me about the show in the beginning after the first running of the pilot.
I caught the first re-run and have been hooked since.
I love being LOST!
I just join this board. Because the member keeps telling me about this wonderful place.
L8r,
WharffRat :chris:
Watership Down 01-14-2005, 04:31 PM In the begining it was the TV ads , then I started looking for information about it on the internet. The more I read, the more it piqued my curiosity. *It's one of only two or three shows I'll actually make an effort to watch regularly.
Hatgirl 01-16-2005, 01:11 PM Well, although I am a huge Alias, Angel and LotR fan, I started watching because everyone over at www.trekbbs.com (http://www.trekbbs.com) was raving about it. I had a look and became addicted. Now I'm spreading the word myself* ;D
name was taken 01-16-2005, 02:23 PM I wasn't into it off the bat *hangs head in shame*. A friend told me it was good so I thought I would check it out. I am hooked now.
I have never seen a single LOTR film or an episode of Alias, I did watch PofF but didn't even know that MF was on Lost to begin with, and I occasionally caught Buffy, but never Angel.
I keep watching b/c it is intelligent and suspenseful and very well written. The characters are complex and so far mysterious. IMHO it is hands down the best new show on television, and it has quickly become high on my list of all time favourite programs.
Oh yeah...and Sawyer does a pretty good job at keeping me wanting more. Yumm.
georgiapeach81 01-16-2005, 03:22 PM I have never seen a single LOTR film or an episode of Alias, I did watch PofF but didn't even know that MF was on Lost to begin with,
That's exactly me, lol.
pkate96 01-16-2005, 03:27 PM Well...I started watching because I heard and read about this new show.....and the critics were all excited about it....I very seldom agree with them but thought 'Why not?" Might as well check it out....if I don't like it I can always change the channel.
Even tho I had already read what the opening scenes would be, it still got my attention and held it. And it hasn't "Lost" me since then. I keep tuning in because I like it....not just the whole 'where are they really?' mystery but the characters themselves. The mysteries behind them and how they came to be the person they are, and came to be here. And I hate to admit it but I do enjoy that for every question answered--sort of- there is another mystery to figure out.
JON@H 01-17-2005, 12:17 AM well I live in NZ and it doesnt start here till February, but when it started in the US, my friend "Icekat" kept going on about it and said I had to see it and I was like "Oh yeah sure...ok" but then she sent me DVD copies of the first 5 episodes and said I had to watch it NOW, and once again I just thought, "Oh sure.... I'll watch your little show" :lol2: and when I did, I just got so excited and I've been addicted since, and then if be coincedence my beloved William made his stunning guest appearence MMMMM it was fate - I know it.
Hiram 01-17-2005, 12:27 AM Well I'll try to keep this short even though the story is very touching
and will always hold a permanently warm private place in my heart!
But, what brought me to LOST was . . . my . . . wait for it . . . TV!
blisseau 01-17-2005, 02:37 AM I originally wasn't even going to watch the pilot episode, even though I adore JJ Abrams for ALIAS and I knew Dom was going to be in it. But on the night of the premiere episode, I had some free time to kill, so I decided that I might as well check out the show just to see if it was any good.
And the rest was history. I have been totally hooked since day one :)
Dom was definately what brought me to Lost, I've been a fan of his for like 3 years.
The day it preimered I was just flipping through channels and trying to see if there was anything on that night and I saw the thing for Lost and I thought that it looked pretty interesting so I watched E! News Live to see if there was anything about it. I still had no idea that Dom was in it. And then they said something about the preimere (sp?) of Lost and they showed Dom and I've been upsesseb with the show ever since.
1voice 01-17-2005, 11:31 AM I saw some commercials for it and it looked really fascinating, so I watched the pilots...and I was hooked.
roguechick 01-17-2005, 03:30 PM I saw the ads for it and thought it looked good. Simple as that.
lostismyfaveshow 01-20-2005, 09:11 PM It looked cool and I recognized Dom from LOTR.
Lostandlovingit16 01-21-2005, 01:21 AM I was talked into watching it by 2 friends and I became addicted. ;D
onenil 01-21-2005, 01:37 AM "Lost" was the only new show this season that looked even remotely interesting.* I honestly had no belief that this show would be any good, but I decided to give it a shot since I've really been starved for good television for the last few years.*
It took about five mintues for me to get addicted!* *:o
GrrrAargh 01-21-2005, 10:35 AM My husband won't allow me to leave him for the entire staff of Mutant Enemy, so I had to get my fix somewhere. . .
We needed our fix post-dragon slaying finale of Angel, can't go out to gigs and poetry readings anymore because of our two-year-old, and, quite frankly, we needed something to do. In this world of sad episodic pieces about serial killers and reality tv shows about all things human, I needed something more.
Plus, I likes me some plane wrecks and weirdness. Oh yes, the weirdness.
Daniel Dae Kim kind of sealed the deal for me. I liked him SO MUCH on Angel. And Dom. Not so hard on the eyes.
klanie45 01-21-2005, 08:07 PM First off, I love, love, love Alias!!! Then just seeing the all the previews for it and that it was by J.J. Abrams. So now I haven't missed a show and never will.
boredmale 01-22-2005, 03:50 PM I was listening to howard stern once day, he mentioned lost, come later that night i was home and bored and lost was on TV figured what the hell might as well watch it(that was episode 3). I got hooked pretty quick. That night i was working a midnight shift and downloaded the first 2 episodes and watched them while working and got hooked quickly.

Swooner 01-23-2005, 12:51 AM I've just read the pages and pages of reasons and not one of them is the same as mine. I'm a fan of some of the reality TV stuff and have watched every season of The Bachelor (and Bachelorette). Saw the previews for this new show that would lead in to the Bachelor and thought I'd check it out. I wasn't too sure I was going to like it because of the "monster" stuff in the pilot but a few more sarcastic zingers from Sawyer and I was hooked! I post on a Bachelor message board but we had the moderator set up a Lost Category since some of us turned into Lost fanatics! When the re-runs started, we recruited even more fans! They all wanted to know what all the fuss was about. Now they know. ;D
Hiram 01-23-2005, 01:20 AM Well, of course I had no plans to come to LOST. There I was minding my own business.
I had taken off on Oceanic Flight 815 headed to L.A.X.. I had a nice semi-comfortable seat
in Economy Class. Then all this shaking started and then of all things, the air masks came down,
like I was in a movie, or something. Then the whole plane, full on, felt like it dropped a couple
of hundred feet.
I saw the tail rip off, all kinds of stuff and people flying out the back. It was just horrible.
Then the nose broke off. I was conscious during the whole thing. Then I guess when the plane got
close to the ground my seat broke loose from it's place and I came out of the plane and landed down threw
some trees. I guess the combination of the low altitude when my seat came out of the plane, the seat cushion
and trees slowed my descent such that I ended up with just some minor cuts and bruises. And a bit of a backache
for a few days. But even that has passed now!
Anyway, that is how I came to be LOST!
lostDelinQent 01-23-2005, 03:22 AM I started watching because of dom. When i saw the preview 4 it i was like hey its Dominic Monaghan!! I keeped watching it cuz it is an awesome show....

jkupc 01-23-2005, 04:14 AM I was flipping on a weds night and came across Lost and saw Ian and decided to watch for him. I stayed though because I saw Walkabout and it hooked me.
NiceSouthernGirl 01-24-2005, 11:29 AM Getting hooked on Lost was total happenstance for me. My husband and I had gone out to dinner, and when we came back, our babysitter was watching the pilot. I was hooked from that very moment. My husband still doesn't understand why, because I usually only watch comedies/sitcoms (I'm very sensitive to violence). I can't watch horror movies at all, but I do like psychological thrillers, if there's not a lot of gratuitous blood and gore. The characters on Lost are so well-drawn and the stories are so compelling, that I'm able to tolerate what violence there is on the show. ;D
