View Full Version : DJ Dan Listening live-chat?

The topic has already come up in other threads, but I felt like making a poll...;)

So, what do you think? YIM (does anyone know if there's a user limit)? IRC? A thread here? Something totally different?

CrazyLatin007

Satrrox, will you set it up? Someone needs to be in charge and have everyone's Yahoo ID in their list. How do we go about doing that? Are you able to look into our profiles and pull the Yahoo IDs?

I think I have to reactivate my Yahoo ID, so, let me know.

Well, if we decide to make a Y!IM Chat, lets just make this thread a place for people to sign-up. They can say something like "Hey, I'm going to be listening, my ID is ______". I'll even vollunteer to send out the invites, if no one else wants to.

I’ll be listening if the site will load for me (it won’t today). Does anyone know the name of the file it uses? I saved it to my hard drive last weekend, but I can’t find it, and I don’t know what it’s called.

I will be using wmp to listen which is slower than mp3, I wonder what this will be like in a chat? I might get a lot of spoilers.

Please add boodog06 to the chat. Thanks!

Ok, I finally remembered how I can invite people to a chat (I use Trillian and I somehow never find that option when I need it...), so feel free to add me or leave your name here, I'll try to invite everyone to a chat tomorrow/on Monday then.

aWishResigned

Ok, it's not a big deal to me either but, I'll go ahead and set up the invites to make sure we don't leave anyone out.

I liked the thread we had going last time (definitely helped my post count) but, I got tired of hitting refresh every five seconds pretty quickly into the broadcast. A chat would help this and make the whole thing a lot smoother.

As far as info for the chat, we're going to be using Yahoo!Messenger (http://messenger.yahoo.com/download.php). The sign-up is free and, if you wanted to sign up for just the chat, you wouldn't ever be bothered to use it again. To illustrate, I was talking to Quince who said that he logged on and got an offline message from over a year ago.

To sign up, click here (https://edit.yahoo.com/config/eval_register?.done=http://messenger.yahoo.com%2fdownload.php&.src=pg&.intl=us) and fill out the quick form. You can either use their messenger program (which you can download after you fill out the form or click the link in the paragraph above) or, if you are like me and have friends who use a variety of the different mediums, you can use a program called Trillian. It's a hybrid program that allows you to import your screenname from nearly every chat medium. Go here (http://www.download.com/Trillian/3000-2150-10047473.html?part=dl-trillian&subj=dl&tag=button) to download it.

I plan on sending out the initial invites about an hour before the LiveCast starts. We can make sure everyone gets in, say our hellos and, maybe, get a chance to hear a rehersal broadcast again. If you'd like added to the list, reply to this thread with your ID.

Awright, although I'm with MOC in preferring to have a thread on the 'Lage, it seems like we're heading toward a YIM chat. So I downloaded YIM. But I know nothing about using it, so I hope someone can post a block of instruction before tomorrow night.

My username is EdMuse1122.

BTW: it planted a toolbar in Firefox that I don't want. How do I make it go away? I can probably figger it out on my own, but just in case, I thought I'd ask.

Maybe one of us who does have it can post some occasional updates of the transcript from the YIM chat so that they can see what we are discussing?
Hmm... That may be tricky, though. Maybe we could just post a transcript of it when it is over.. I have done that in chats at some other forums in the past.
It could be posted with the link to the recording of the broadcast (I'm sure that a recording will be posted somewhere)

Just a random idea.

I agree having at least a transcript on here for those who don' t have yahoo would be nice since we know everyone can get on here.
I was just happy to see that the time is 8 PST since I get off at 8 EST so I have time to get home and get all set up.

http://www.radioharvest.com/No. As long as someone knows that you want to be in the chat, you'll get an invite from someone in the room and you will be able to see everyone in it, even if you haven't added them to your friends list. You're all set. :)

I am also having trouble loading www.radioharvest.com (http://www.radioharvest.com) using Internet Explorer. For those that can load that URL, does it redirect to another URL?

The current ads on abc.com and on the DJ Dan website point to www.radioharvest.com (http://www.radioharvest.com)

Last week, the abc.com adds pointed to this site http://www.harvestfilms.com/home2.html (and this one does load for me in Internet Explorer and appears to be Harvest Radio and has an ad on it for DJ Dan ... but maybe this is no longer the correct site?)

Can anyone clear this up?

Also note, there is additional information on the DJ Dan website about the show:

DJ Dan's Podcast Archive page announces that there will be a LIVE DJ Dan podcast on Sunday, September 24, 8pm PST.

Thanks Starrox. Unfortunately, none of the direct links you provided seem to work for me from Internet Explorer.

However, I looked at the source HTML and this URL seems to work for me http://www.radioharvest.com/harvest_radio.swf

The first two links I posted are the links embedded in the swf-file you two posted the link to, so if you can open them from there, the direct links should be working as well. ;)
You probably have to open them in Windows Media Player or Winamp or similar directly, that's how I got them to work (except for the first stream, it can't get it to load anymore!).

The program I used last time is one called VLC Media Player. It's got a pretty basic GUI but has literally played everything I've thrown at it (live streams, videos of all codecs, dvds, etc.). I can't remember the exact address to find it but you can google VLC and it comes up pretty fast. It's a SourceForge project so, it's got a lot of credibility. Anyways, the mp3 stream prompts you to download a file and works right with it. I didn't run into any problems whatsoever last time.

boodog33
09-24-2006, 05:35 PM
Quinc's link works grat for me with either wmv or mp3.

I will use mp3 this time if it's faster. I thought I had to have an Ipod to use this option, but it doesn't look like it.:)

Sounds like it's over because they did a sign-off. Perhaps just music until the broadcast now.

Some people were saying that it sounded like their voices doing a fake radio show to test things out. Not so sure about that, but it's possible....

For those who can't get the streaming links to work, Firefox is a quick download and you can handle everything from there according to Boodog. If you wish, you could get the stream up then minimize Firefox and connect to chat via IE.
