View Full Version : Ethan and Juliet are Married
TheUsualSuspect 10-05-2006, 03:11 PM Ethan was the one fixing, what he was fixing at Juliet's house. "I see he's still at it" one book club member said.
Juliet woke up in the morning, put on music and had a depressed emotion on her face, hmm, something bad happened to her.
Could it be that she had a miscarriage and cannot get pregnant?
That would explain why Claire was kidnapped and why they wanted her baby. Ethan saw that she was pregnant and focused his attention to that, instead of making the list. (In Maternity leave, Tom told him that he was suppose to make a list, and not bring her).
Thoughts?
Richardstone 10-05-2006, 03:17 PM I thought Ethan was just the handyman of Othersville...
Nice idea about the pregnancy though (could also be why they took Cindy)
But I think I sensed more of an ex-relationship between Ben and Juliet rather than Ethan and Juliet.
Tachyon 10-05-2006, 03:27 PM i think ethan is juliet's husband.
also, did you guys realize (i just started rewatching the episode) that when they're talking about the book in the first scene they're all talking about what "Ben would read" and what he wouldn't?? sounds like Benry is getting to be a kind of dictator
Aaron 10-05-2006, 03:33 PM I thought Ethan was more of a handy man. Seemed more like Benry and Juliet were on the outs.
As for Benry being a dictator, I'm not sure about that. It's obvious that he is the leader, like Jack. It's kind of funny when you think back to the way Benry said to Locke "Why do you let him treat you like that?" When Benry is telling everyone what to do, just like he thought Jack was.
care_n_jim 10-05-2006, 03:41 PM I think Ben and Juliet are brother and sister -
I like the miscarriage idea - she seemed so SAD and like she had a lot on her mind......
prior to the crash
Dlarruso 10-05-2006, 03:42 PM I thought Ethan was a doctor- He was the one monitoring Claire in the staff hatch and he was functioning as a doctor. I wonder if that is why the new blonde chick is set up as Jack's caretacker since her last husband (if ethan was) was a doctor too.
Maybee she is hoping that jack will now take over as the others "physician" since Ethan is gone.
100%
Maybe they are not married..remember in the flash back it seemed like Ethan kind of had a thing for Claire, remember they were sitting outside the staff hatch on the log and he was telling her that he was suprised but that he was actually really going to miss her. It was almost like he had a thing for her, so I don't know if he is married to Juliet.
TheUsualSuspect 10-05-2006, 03:50 PM Good point about the doctor thing. Since they live in such a small area, I'm guessing they have to take on many professions.
abbybaby 10-05-2006, 03:54 PM I also assumed Ethan was just being a handyman, but now that you say it, it would also be something a huspand would do. Anyone see a ring on Ethan or juliets hand? Not that it would matters nessesarily if they didn't have any rings on this show. The interaction between Juliet and Benry is pretty intresting, seems like they both want to be Mayor of Othersville. "Othersville" Sounds like a town Dr. Seus would make up!lol!
Tiny Time Machine 10-05-2006, 03:54 PM I think Ben and Juliet are brother and sister -
Didn't stop Shannon and Boone...
... :O
esbaker 10-05-2006, 04:03 PM I don't think that Ethan and Juliet were married. I think Benry and Juliet were, but I like your miscarriage theory.
RodimusBen 10-05-2006, 04:07 PM If it's not a miscarriage, then I believe we will certainly learn something about Juliet that gives us sympathy for the character and a good reason for Jack to be a love interest.

... :O
EEEWWWW
BUT good point!
adam8023 10-06-2006, 10:17 AM I can see this as a possible future scene.
Julia-Have you seen my husband Ethan anywhere?
Jack-Many weeks ago he kidnapped two of our friends, left one for dead, whom I had to revive, and then Ethan killed a guy named Scott. We managed to capture him then that lunatic rock star shoot him
Juliet-:eek2:
Mr. Wicked 10-06-2006, 06:38 PM Ethan and Juliet being together came to my mind about ten mins ago and I searched and found this thread. Nice!
I totaly agree - E and J were together at some point, they never heard back from Ethan and he's presumed dead, they need a new doc (what reason for Sawyer and kate?)...
Juliet and Ben - that I doubt... To me it seems more like: Ben has runs this community and she tends to be the only person who ever challenges him.
nuno2 10-06-2006, 06:58 PM BINGO..THANK YOU. ive been watchin that first five mins over and over, and the more i watch it seems like she is really upset and about 2 cry but she stops herself, and when she burns her hands she gets mad as if shes going thru a rough time. then later ben says to her guess im out of the book club. evreryone says its cuz the stephan king book, but why when captured he ask for a stephan king book? what if, and get this, him and juliet were dating or who noes maybe juliet had a husband and ben let him die.could be anything, but what im trying to say is that shes upset at something with ben and thats why he looked at the book, cuz maybe he wasnt told about the book club meeting and figured she didnt want him there. she was kinda upset when bens name was mentioned at the meeting. i dunoo anyone else who understand this jibberish i wrote think its something like that?
after readif esbaker's comment i thought of this.
IStoleCindy 10-06-2006, 07:05 PM I thought it seemed like Ben and Juliet were a couple. That stuff about Ben being the host, to which Juliet replied that SHE was the hostess, and she'd read what she wanted without his approval makes me think they'd just broken up or something.

i think we are on to something here.
technomage500 10-07-2006, 02:18 AM I have been watching the first few minutes over and over and I think that absolutely they WERE married ( Ben & Juliet). The morning of the crash was the FIRST day without Ben. That is why she is almost crying. She moved out to a previously UNUSED house ( the plumbing wasn't working!!) , and was hosting the first meeting of the book club without Ben. When Adam berated her for her choice of books, saying that Ben wouldn't read it in the bathroom, Juliet got angry saying"...here I am thinking free will actually exists on..." then the shaking begins.
This Island, I believe just had its first divorce!! Also at this time the old lady who came over first was smiling as she berated Adam for not liking her choice. almost like tacit support for her decision.
Ben comes out of the house and begins to look up BEFORE there is any sound of the plane breaking up. He knew what was happening but the other Others didn't.
My two cents.... In the last thirty years ( or so) there has been SEVERAL crashes ( airplanes, boats etc). This community is a mix of several different influxes of people.
We have already seen that this island accelerates healing. Physical and mental. I believe that it also cures AGING. either because it is the Fountain of Youth or a time anomaly around the island makes it seem that way. The island maybe be out of sync with the outside world and might only have some rudimentary communication with it.
The supplies have to come from somewhere. As well I believe that we will see Walt and his dad at the end of the season thinking that they have escaped only to be arriving at the island several years older. This will cover up Walt's age difference that we will see when they return.
I may be rambling (???!!) here, but I believe that here are TWO groups of "OTHERS" on the island. Ben's group are the "Good Guys" and the "Bad" Others are the ones that stole the children.
i didn't think I could watch again but they changed my mind.
Kudos to LOST!!

wow!!!! good theory, i like the idea where mike and walt come back "older" talk about a mind freak!!!
Cajungirl26 10-07-2006, 02:39 AM I also thought Benry and Juliet had some sort of relationship history by his out of the book club statement. I don't think she cares very much for him anymore, however, by the look she had after he told her she did a good job.
AmbroseB 10-07-2006, 03:11 AM I need help. What happened in the last five minutes of the show? My recorder stopped right after Jack slumped over in the corner and he decided to sit down and get some food from Juliet. She goes out the door.....and wham, the tape stopped. In the screencaptures I see her talking to Mr. Creepy....what happened....
hellotzp 10-07-2006, 03:21 AM you can watch the episode online at abc for free, ambroseb! :)
www.abc.go.com
for some reason i feel that juliet and benry were not a couple, it was a misdirect from the writers... and i was also thinking ethan might actually be her love interest, and his death might be what contributes to an already existing confict between her and benry.
but once i read it, i really like the first day of divorce theory, too!
HenryGale23 10-07-2006, 03:29 AM I like the idea that ben and juliet are brother and sister, it could also be that ethan and juliet are brother and sister. I actually think that would make more sense. I don't think juliet is married to ethan, but i think she had a relationship going on with ben, and they just broke up or somthing. They were acting odd around each other, and there was that part in the begining when she was pulling herself together in the mirror.
I don't think that it would make sense that she couldn't get pregnant, cus the island seems to have "special healing powers" so i think that that is not the case. But there is a chance. It would make alot of sense.
IStoleCindy 10-08-2006, 07:43 AM I think there's a parallel with Desperate Housewives. Juliet is Susan, the divorcee, Ben is Karl, her ex-husband, Ethan is Mike, the Handiman across the road who Susan likes to invite over.
-calypso- 10-08-2006, 08:13 AM if it's true, Juliet's name is/was Juliet Rom(eo)
IStoleCindy 10-08-2006, 09:09 AM if it's true, Juliet's name is/was Juliet Rom(eo)
That is a heck of a good point! Well spotted!
Matrinka 10-08-2006, 09:35 AM if it's true, Juliet's name is/was Juliet Rom(eo)
Do you think this means we'll be treated to an "oh happy dagger" suicide scene to unite the two feuding "camps" of people on the island, the others and the losties?
I also love the choice of the name Ben -- I wonder if his character is going to be based off of Romeo and Juliet's Benvolio?
see kate run 10-08-2006, 10:11 AM My first impression was that Ben and Juliet were once in a relationship. As others have stated, it came to me when she got defensive with Adam on her book choice. The older lady (Mrs. DeGroot ?) smiled in acknowledgement to Juliet's comeback, sort of like she approved of her for sticking up for herself . It could have even been interpreted as "us ladies need to stick together and not let the men run the show" . In the opening scene she was obviously upset about something. It could have been that it was her first time she was having the book club without Ben and was trying to have the courage to do it without him. Also she knew that he wouldn't have liked the book she had chosen so this was her first step of independance. ~ But here's the twist, what if she was having a secret affair with Ethan and this lead to the break~up with Ben ? Sometimes the flashbacks on the show parallels what is going on in real time. Jack's flashback was of him and Sara going thru their divorce. He was obsessed to find out the name of the man she left him for. What if Ben had realized she was having an affair but never really knew who the man was. Maybe he thought it was Ethan or it could have been Goodwin. But maybe he consciously choose those two, to go to the plane wreckages to get them away from her. Also he didn't know which one it was so to him they were expendable if anything happened to them.

I think we're gonna have some romeo & juliet thing between jack & Juliet...but i don't know if it's gonna end by their death...
TheLadyLovesLost 10-08-2006, 12:17 PM if it's true, Juliet's name is/was Juliet Rom(eo)
Ah ha! Very good point there.
miracle 10-08-2006, 12:36 PM I may be rambling (???!!) here, but I believe that here are TWO groups of "OTHERS" on the island. Ben's group are the "Good Guys" and the "Bad" Others are the ones that stole the children.
good theory, however Bens group of others (if there are more groups) was the one that kidnapped the children.
On "The other 48 days" before Goodwin was killed, A-L asks him
"What about the kids, did you kill them too?"
and Goodwin responds
"The children are fine. They're better off now"
And of course after the last episode we know for sure that Ben was the one who sent Goodwin.
LauraA 10-08-2006, 02:01 PM I also don't think Ethan and Juliet are married...if any love relaltionship existed between the two, wouldn't we see at least a look between the two of them when he is sent off to the plane crash? Like a Please be careful, I love you look, at the very least? The tension, on the other hand, between Juliet and Ben is like that between ex-es, not brother and sister. When I am upset with my brother, I don't need to do subtle things to get back at him, like I would an ex. It's more or less like, Get it all out in the open. Just my thoughts.
Lexxxxx 10-08-2006, 02:19 PM Good point about the doctor thing. Since they live in such a small area, I'm guessing they have to take on many professions.
If I were Ben, I don't think I'd send someone as important to a community as the group's doctor on such a mission. I'd send the handyman.
IStoleCindy 10-08-2006, 08:35 PM Re: the Rom and Juliet thing, I think the Hanso Foundation have already released a plague o' both their houses!

LostFan710 10-08-2006, 09:14 PM I actually thought that thwy were married when I first watched it. You never know tho.

I agree with all this especially the other others. first night tailes were attcked by others yet ben said a list in 3 days. yet no one new anyones names in teh tailes section first nite. and also producers have said its them vs us....but whos us and whos them and whos really the bad guy and teh good guy. so yea maybe a hint to being another group.
100%
after watching it again,i just realized after the whole be comment about not bein in teh book club juliet looked like she was tearing up and about to cry. ben most have done something to really hurt her.
