It was when the water started rushing in. guiltypleasure 10-05-2006, 07:16 PM yea i heard that too, but then again jack was "hearing" many things that weren't there Fuselogic 10-05-2006, 07:19 PM I heard it. But that hinge looked kind of old. So there's that. HenryGale23 10-05-2006, 07:39 PM I think it was the old hinge. TJWriter90 10-05-2006, 07:41 PM Possibly a combination of the old hinge and rushing water. Fuselogic 10-05-2006, 07:42 PM And rushing water. Good call. Can't forget about tons of water rushing in on them. dharma815 10-05-2006, 07:45 PM It wasn't the hinge, it was the sound of the water. Don't you think it is wierd that it is the same sound as the monster. Like, maybe, the sound of the monster is water underground or something like that. They are definately the same sounds. waswere 10-06-2006, 02:21 PM i thought it was the pressure on the metal door and hinge and the initial blast of water Lija 10-06-2006, 04:09 PM Did anyone hear the monster noise when Jack opened the hatch door. It was when the water started rushing in. Yes, we thought so, too! Sure, it's a combination of the things people mentioned here, but it also sounded eerily like the noise we heard in the pilot. Glad to know others heard it too. kokobware 10-06-2006, 04:48 PM I figured they made it sound that way so when Jack opened the door, we (viewers) thought smokey was gonna rush in and rip him apart. Of course anyone who saw a preview knows that wasnt the case, but whatever... The LOSTzilla 10-11-2006, 09:17 AM I didn't hear it. I'll have to watch over it again... I've always though that smokie was created by the other or the DHARMA Initiative. I've said in the past it's not only a way to keep intruders out by sheer physical fear but mental fear as well. If you notice smokie blasts out of the ground a lot when we see him. I think during that time the others are monitoring what's going on (or at least during DHARMA it's what was going on). Is it possible that that mixing board in the underwater hatch is what was used to record all of those sounds? OR is it possible that smokie is breaking through some time of door just like the water is in the hatch? Bealzbob 10-11-2006, 09:28 AM Yeah that groan was definitely the water pressure on the metal as the door loosened (probably for the first time in ages). louderld23 10-11-2006, 09:54 AM I believe it is the sound of water as well, but it is also the exact same noise that the smoke creates. februarystar 10-11-2006, 10:20 AM i agree that it's similar, if not the exact same noise as the giant monster. but if it is water rushing underneath the island or something like that, how do you explain the trees getting ripped up and tossed whenever the monster seems to be chasing someone? Lija 10-12-2006, 03:30 PM I figured they made it sound that way so when Jack opened the door, we (viewers) thought Smokey was gonna rush in and rip him apart. Of course anyone who saw a preview knows that wasn't the case... Yeah, that's the trouble w/ watching the previews. It's so annoying when they give too much away. Spoils the suspense, the fear for the characters, IMO. But I can't not watch the previews! sttct 10-17-2006, 03:42 PM I posted a thread on this too. It's the same sound. I have always thought that all the hatches are somehow connected under the island - and the sounds of the "monster" are the hatches closing. Lija 10-17-2006, 10:29 PM That's an interesting theory, sttct, and one that is plausible, as well. My sister told me yesterday that she was so frustrated that they haven't answered the question posed at the beginning of it all--what the heck made that monsterous sound near the end of episode 1? Drake 10-20-2006, 03:16 PM To me it sounded the same. If it's not it's pretty darn close. |
