I've seen several people ask if Sawyer had his blood taken, mostly because we don't see him take the bandage off. I was wondering that too, to be honest.

Probably to check if they're infected with the disease.

I think they are doing some DNA testing of their blood (besides checking for infection).

I'll go with the idea that they were checking for disease, or "the sickness" we think is loose on the island. Especially since Benry told Kate they burned her clothes. You usually only burn clothing when someone may have an airborne-transmissable disease.
