View Full Version : How come no one asked about the "Others" new clothes?
didntseethatonecoming 10-10-2006, 08:37 PM Am I just being too picky in wondering this? I would surely have asked if I was one of Losties. Seeing them dressed like this would really bring to light that this whole thing has been a facade :undecide: .
Monsoon_Moon 10-11-2006, 11:10 AM Well, they knew the beard was fake, so I supposed they guessed The Others clothes were part of the ruse. Plus, if the Losties were smart they'd have realized that Ethan and Ben had access to clean clothes/razors.
Edit: Also, Kate found the ragged clothes in the Medical Hatch.
MaggieRyanJr 10-11-2006, 12:08 PM Look, they got tasered shortly before this. They would have to figure that if their enemies have tasers, they might have better clothes...
diabolo237 10-11-2006, 12:12 PM I would imagine something about psychological torture would distract you from noticing the spiffy new threads of your captors...
rhettoric 10-11-2006, 12:31 PM Also, much of the mundane stuff happens and is not shown to the viewing audience.
Perhaps Kate had a conversation with Tom
"Hey, you're wearing modern clothes, where did you get this dress"
"Not answering that one either"
.....
Would you have really wanted that dialogue in the show?
It's pretty clear that the clothing ruse is up.

I dunno, I always notice what my girlfriend is wearing
ldazwcat 10-12-2006, 03:15 PM How come no one asked why they were being held in prison? Also, why now? They could have taken them weeks before.
Spacefrost 10-17-2006, 02:24 PM I've said this in other threads but......I'm telling you, it's like an Old Navy commercial. And I really hate Old Navy. Funny thing is, I've always kinda seen those commercials as being so very fake in their cheesy "happiness". The Others seem to be living in a cheesy facade of "happiness" also.
Lost In My Mind 10-17-2006, 03:13 PM Haha, never really thought of it as being compared to an Old Navy commercial. True, I got that feeling that something was definitely "off" with the overall demeanor/mood of Othersville. Thanks for pinpointing that!
Save The Humans 10-17-2006, 08:58 PM I would surely have asked if I was one of Losties.

Yep. Any/all of the trio COULD have asked Them this. And gotten tasered for their trouble.
No, thanks!

So, you think the Others' society is kind of like The Truman Show (w/ Jim Carrey as unknowing as the Losties)???
JeremyBender 10-18-2006, 08:26 PM I live in Los Angeles, near downtown, and I have friends who live in the ex-burbs, places built PAST the suburbs. Otherville really reminded me of a sort of sterile, gated community in some place like Valencia called Whispering Pines or Running Creek or something insipid like that.
As for the clothes, they knew all that dirt and grime was fake, no need to keep up the facade in a metal hatch under water. :)

:eek2: ya think?
Also....our guys NEVER ask questions.
The Snowman 10-22-2006, 08:33 PM The "clothing ruse" was busted last season. They found clothes along with the beard all hung up nicely if I am recalling correctly. I think the focus was on the beard but the tattered clothing was there hung up too.
