Very interesting what he found out about the name "Ethan" :o

Ethan was there to protect Claire from The Others? Um, Bill, that makes no freaking sense! Of course, this isLost.......

Bill's a hottie, sad to see him go (also because Ethan was such a cool baddie).

That was just Bill's opinion, but I can certainly see it. There's been a lot of speculation as to Ethan's TRUE intentions.

I agree. "Gift of the island"...hopefully we'll still be able to find out!!

I can't say it enough...bring him back! Clones, evil twins, or just Fashback Ethan...I don't care as long as his storyline doesn't just end up getting dropped. Please don't tell me they created and then killed the best bad guy on TV since Spike just to throw the audience a red herring!

I agree Ethansgirl--at some point they MUST show us what happened after he nabbed Charlie and Claire--how did he get Charlie so far up that tree? Why can't Claire remember anything? etc.--I suspect he'll show up in flashbacks.

He looks *fine* in a tight, wet shirt.

"I told (Dominic), 'You couldn't have asked questions first and shot later?' "

:lol2:

I love that one

mmmm off to watch my copy of the Grudge to console myself.....................

how did he get Charlie so far up that tree? Why can't Claire remember anything?

My guess is that he subdued them by injecting them with one of those date-rape-type drugs, which (I believe) can cause the victim to be docile and compliant (while conscious) and cause short-term memory loss.

Yes. Yes he certainly does.

<Hangs head in shame for admiring the psychotic's hard body.> :lol2:

Ethan does not mean "gift of the island." Ethan, from the Hebrew "Eitan," means strong, steady, or reliable. Alex is short for Alexander, which is from the Greek meaning "protector of Mankind." Jin means "truth." Sun means "goodness," both in Korean. If you are looking for the perfect guy on the island, maybe Ethan has a brother name Jesse. That is also from Hebrew, meaning "he will be rich." :lol2:

I think like a lot of names there are varying sources of definition and origins - probably all of them are right just depends on which lanuage your going back through.

I really like his theory on Ethan being a 'sheep in wolf's clothing'. Something could happen to the others that would make them against Claire. It's certainly an interesting idea that I hadn't thought of. It makes me really sad, now, that Charlie shot him. At first, I was completely relieved, because he was really, really creepy. But now I am starting to wish he hadn't.

William really did a great job as Ethan. I think he did the "weird-Canadian-hunting-buddy" part and the "Ethanator" parts just right!

I just had to say geographclymsplacd, as a regular old Canadian, your avatar makes me LOL!

I totally agree William was outstanding in the role, and if they don't revisit Ethan in some means (flashbacks or whatever) I will be sorely disappointed at what a waste of a great character it was.

It's driving me nuts, I read over at the Television Without Pity spoiler thread that in an interview in mid-February JJ Abrams said that William Mapother would be back even though Ethan was dead. I haven't seen anything supporting or disproving that spoiler anywhere else online, so I don't know if it's true or not...I just hope it is! Has anyone else heard this?

How do you know that Ethen is Canadian? He told Hurley he was from Ontario. To a guy with a thick California accent like Hurley, Ontario should have been that city near LA where they have a major airport
[I've been there I know]

Maybe my memory is faulty, but I don't remember Ethan ever saying he was Canadian.* All he said was that he was from Ontario.* If he was refering to Ontario, California, the following is interesting....

Ontario, California was founded to be a "model colony".* Is that why Ethan was on the island? To start a model colony?

No, because Ethan specifically said that his was from Canada. If i had a script 'd show ya... i remember him saying he was from canada..i even have it taped.

I don't recall Ethan specifically saying Canada, just Ontario...and then Hurley said something like "Canada, huh? Great...uh..." and he couldn't think of anything great about Canada to finish with so there was just an awkward chuckle.

Looking back, it seems odd that Hurley never asked him (to my recollection) what Ethan had been doing in Sydney like he did with everyone else on the census. Of course, I'm still sputtering about Hurley not asking everyone more useful questions like "do you have medical training, or special useful skills?", so what can I say. Come to think of it "What were you doing on the plane?" might have been an important question where Ethan was concerned!
