I have a spreadsheet where I am keeping track of all the characters on the show. When I was updating it after this last episode, something occurred to me. When Jack found the pilot in the first episode, he told him there were 48 survivors (I assume they had done a headcount because I don't think they had found the manifest yet). I don't believe that included the pilot. But did it include Ethan? Did Ethan mingle with the group that early in the show or did he join in on a later episode? I was just wondering how many survivors were left. The marshall, Joanna, and Scott have died. That puts the number at 45. If Ethan was counted as one of the original survivors, the count would be down to 44. Any ideas?

I believe 45 is the right number. There were 48 not counting the pilot, and now we've lost Joanna, the Marshal, and Scott... Ethan was seen a few episodes before - like one where he was hunting with Locke (can't remember which epi that was) and then when Hurley was doing the census, but he wasn't on the plane!

Yeah, I knew he wasn't on the plane but I just wondered if Ethan got included in the headcount of survivors at the beginning. I don't think they used the manifest to do the count at first. If he showed up before the headcount was performed, then he would have been counted as part of the 48. I don't care one way or the other. I just want an accurate spreadsheet. :laugh:
