Can we just use an Avatar from the gallery? Or is that bad form. Anyone know how to make your own that is the right size?

I just grabbed a screen capture from another site, cropped it then resized it to 100x100. Not fancy but its all I need.

They are only switched off during high traffic times, which are usually when a new episode is shown. They do come back after a time.

I'm trying to upload an avatar and/or a livejournal icon to my profile, but I'm having trouble. I have Windows XP on my computer, and when I save a picture from the web, half the time it saves as a jpeg, and the other half of the time it saves as a file. Unfortunately, the files are the ones I want to upload. When I try, the picture just comes up as that annoying white box with the red X. How do I convert these files to jpegs (I'm assuming that will allow me to upload them)? Thanks for any help you guys can give me. Sorry I'm a Downloading Dodo :'(

hey, this is prob. a dumb question, but how do I make an avatar, I had noe on there, but I wanted my own, and, I triesd to put a pic on there, but it wouldn't work. :'(

Not a dumb question. This is what l did. I found my picture on the net. Saved it to my documents (or where ever you want to save it) Then go to your profile. Click on Forum Profile Information. You'll see where it says l have my own picture. Browse for the picture you saved and open. Or you can use any of the ava's in the Gallery. I believe it has to be the right size or else it may not work. Good luck.

The size can actually vary a lot--my original is about four times larger than the one on screen--they just reduce it to a consistent size. Of course, there may be limits!

Hey Mo, I do have a question. I was trying to make my current avatar that girlspy did for me, but I could not figure out how to layer the pictures onto each other or how to rotate images (other than 90 degrees) in Photoshop. Are there tricks to doing these kinds of things? Is my question even clear? :lol2:

No i understand your question perfectly! ;D Actually its pretty simple. You have to make each object a different layer. To do that go to the "Layer" option at the top of the page and select "New" then "Layer" and then press "Ok". Then copy and paste the image that you want and it will be on that layer then....

FADING LAYERS:
You will see a window on the side of your Photoshop that says "LAYERS" select which layer you want by RIGHT CLICKING on it and select the option "Blending options..." In the window that pops up you can play around with the different options for different effects. I suggest using the "General Blending" option.

ROTATING IMAGES:
Select the layer you want to rotate by just clicking it (no right-clicking this time) then go to the "Image" menu at the top of the page. Select "Rotate Canvas" then "Arbitrary" and you can rotate by the number of degrees. If you don't want to do it by degrees and want to drag-rotate it yourself, then...select the layer you want by clicking on it....then, on your keyboard press "CTRL-A" and you will see the layer is highlighted. Then, go to the "Edit" menu and select "Free Transform" you will see that you can now re-size the layer and also rotate it!

I didn't lose mine, so I'm not sure what happened to yours. You had it from the Gallery here on the 'Lage? If you're on a PC, right click on the avi you want and get the properties so you'll have the url you need to link to the pix. Then under your profile, just pick the option to link from a url and put in the one from the gallery avi. That should work. If you're on a MAC, open the avi you want in a new window, copy the url from the browser window & paste it in the url box under your profile.

As for the siggy ... that you'll have to redo as I'm sure it's not stored anywhere if you can't see it. But better double check in your profile that you don't have it hidden.

You can also send a PM to Karri & Artie (though be patient for a reply since they're still busy with the new board).

Hope you can at least get your avi back with my suggestion.

Elf-lady: make sure you set your options to show your signature when you post. I checked your post here and you didn't have your signature turned on.

Welcome, freckles. Click on the link above that says 'Gallery', it will take you to a catalog of avatars to choose from. If you don't like any of those, or want something non-Lost-related, you can upload one from your computer. Click on your name to get your administration options, and there should be a 'Choose Avatar' choice or something like that. Sorry if that's a little vague, it's been awhile since I uploaded mine.

In a day or 2 I will be able to finally get an avatar...they have a 10 day requirement. You all have such talent on here, I don't know the first thing about making avatars. Is there a way someone could help me make one?

What I'm looking for is how you guys have the changing avatar...I would love 4 different pictures - 1 of Locke/Hurley/Sawyer/Desmond in that order. There a certain pics I love of each, but they are too big. I don't know how to resize them, write anything on them, and most definetly don't now how to do the animated ones.

If anyone could help me it would be much appreciated. I'm lucky I can understand the toolbar above to put things bold, italics etc..LOL!

For Locke, I would love the pic of him smiling real nice with his cargo outfit on and for it to say "I'm not lost anymore"

For Hurley, I would love for the recent pics of the shots they took of him on the beach, the up close one of him smiling with such a great smile. It is the pics of him with the jeans on with the yellow shirt with blue sleeves. Those are great shots of him!! I would love for his to say "Island Dude"

For Sawyer, the new promo pics of him with the striped shirt - an upclose shot...Oh he does look so sexy!!! I want his to say, "Whatcha gonna do...splash me?"

Lastly for Desmond...just an upclose facial shot of when he was talking to Locke and/or Jack...and his to say "The End"

Can anybody help me??????????????? I don't know how to go about doing this...Can somebody lead me in the right direction?

just a thought. that way people looking for banners

I think this is the first thread i've ever actually started, weird.
Anyway, i was wondering seeing everyone's wonderfully created, or copy/pasted(like mine!) avatars, i was thinking up some questions for any of you avie creating geniusus out there....is it a hard thing to create one of your own? are there some steps to follow in order to do it? and is it possible to combine a group of other avies that others have created into one big one? is that ethical to do so, need to give credit?
I have so many avies that i love i keep going back and forth between them, so i thought i wonder if i can combine them all into one!

You can make your own,... It's no big deal. The only problem is comforming to the lage's requirements.

There's some really easy to use gif making software out there too. Like Easy Gif Animator. Give it a shot. I really like making my own Avatars.

Can anyone make a Nikki icon? I have been making some, but I have trouble re-loading them, and all. So I was wondering if anyone knew where to find one or could (possibly) make one.
