View Full Version : Charlie's back!
SenatorKent 10-19-2006, 02:04 AM Hey guys. It's time for Charlie fans to rally! He returned to us in tonights episode, in all his former glory! Great wit, great adventure, great Locke-Charlie combo, great Claire moment at the start. It was wonderful!
pacejunkie 10-19-2006, 08:41 AM That it was. Great to see Charlie again. This episode was like 23rd Psalm to me, practically every scene was Locke/Charlie in the jungle and it was so tightly focused on the both of them and their "journeys". I loved that episode and I loved this one. Of course Charlie was snarky in both too. It was a great gift to Dom's fans.
Captain_Falafel 10-19-2006, 01:56 PM I know some of you were complaining about Charlie being a sidekick, but to be honest I like sidekicks and I think Charlie (and Dom) are really excellent in that role.
Ultimately I think Charlie works best when he is supporting one of the leader figures rather than leading an episode himself. I find Charlie is brilliant when he is paired with Locke, Eko, Jack or Sayid as their sidekick on an adventure. It just always WORKS. Charlie is like a fly buzzing in their ear. He is always yapping and nagging them with questions - thats what a good sidekick should do.
I love that Charlie's humour is back. I think he had more great oneliners in this episode than in the whole of S2. Hurleys humour has been given a polish too. Hey it would be great if sometime there is an episode where Hurley and Charlie go on an adventure together (just those too).
Bluedragon 10-19-2006, 02:40 PM Glad to here Charlies back as the past if you know what I mean! I agree with Captain_Falafel- he does make a better sidekick, although, every once in a while, i wish he would say something and (the others listen!) the others would nod and say yer thats a good idea or somthing alone those lines...just once in a while!!
Unfortunate that I'm never going to see season three...In the UK its said Sky has paid big money to have LOST on there channels/channel (i dont know what it is) thus i do not have Sky so i can't watch it...which is really bad news:mad: :bash:   (this is not gossip, i heard it on radio, but it is still un realiable)

Can't you download the episodes? If not there's always the DVDs. You'll see them.
I agree he makes a great sidekick (and speaking of a Charlie/Hurley trek, Numbers was one of my favourite episodes), but I would also like to see him act a bit more independent sometimes. I don't expect him to be a natural leader, just have a story on his own where he's not tagging on someone else.
Bluedragon 10-19-2006, 03:01 PM There is the DVDs, but can you imagine how long it will take for them to come out!? Im not in the loop, dude! Guess its my only opition. Thanks pacejunkie!
I agree with you too- I would like to see him a little more independent but not so hes isolated...i also kinda would like someone to ask him for something...or ask him for some sort of help, Im not sure why I feel that way, maybe because no-ones done it yet...

Well if that's what you want, when you do get a chance to see episode 3 of season three, I think you'll be pleased. :)
And Eko did ask for his help in finding the dynamite to blow the blast doors. Not that it was the best idea, but that wasn't Charlie's fault.
Passport 10-19-2006, 03:43 PM I like Charlie (He is one of the few male characters I do like). I have to say that although this episode wasn't an excellent episode in my opinion that having Charlie back was one of the best things... sadly he was used mainly as exposition.
Oh and btw... Dom was really cute in this episode... anyone?
Matt
Captain_Falafel 10-19-2006, 03:48 PM Personally I would love to see how Charlie would fare in the Others camp! That would be an interesting test for him. I think Jack, Kate and Sawyer are really boring choices for Others captives. I would have much preferred to see the old balloonie gang (Sayid, Charlie and Ana Lucia) facing the Others. That would've been far more juicy since they had bigger axes to grind.

I was so hoping they'd get ambushed on that balloon trek.

Totally, although I'm still getting used to his new jawline since he got braces. His chin doesn't stick out as much as it used to. Bye bye underbite.

I loved the balloon trek - the best days of Ana Lucia. And the days of Chana. Awww.
R.I.P Chana.

I didn't really notice :( Sorry. I didn't really realise I was a Dom (;)) fan until the Balloon episode. "Were you looking at my bum?" - "Well maybe just a little" :p
Bluedragon 10-19-2006, 04:53 PM He has braces!? How come I did know this!!! (im annoyed i didnt know that he has braces, not that he had them hehe ) Anyway back to the point.

They're along the backs of his bottom teeth so they're hard to see. There was a good pic from after the appearance on Regis last week where you could see them clearly though.
ETA: Here (http://photos.imageevent.com/swoonstar/lost/1912138.jpg), just click to enlarge and you can see them. I think this is okay to link, it's from an autograph signing, not stalkarazzi or anything.
schoff 10-19-2006, 05:07 PM ...sadly he was used mainly as exposition.
Oh, no kidding! Dom certainly made the best of it though. He can sell any line, no matter how outlandish it is. I suspect he also frequently does it in a way the writers didn't originally intend--like he did in abundance last night. I envisioned the crew getting all sorts of exasperated with him for not taking the whole thing seriously. This episode wasn't so much Charlie being snarky as it was Dom rolling his eyes.

I don't know if I agree with that schoff. Are you saying Dom wasn't happy with his role in this ep? He loves working with Terry and he did some great work. I know he likes it when Charlie's all dark but he likes playing the funny stuff too. And I didn't consider his role to be purely exposition this time, not like it was in EHH where he asks Locke all about the hatch. He had a purpose for being here and rebuilding the trust that was lost between him and Locke. You can actually see Charlie slowly letting his snarky guard down through the course of the episode and it was wonderfully well done.

I expanded a bit here (http://www.thefuselage.com/Threaded/showpost.php?p=1226625&postcount=89).

:eek2: Tell us how you really feel. Are you sure you haven't been hanging out in TwoP's bitterness thread a bit too much?
I guess I'm able to suspend my disbelief for a show where nothing has ever been what it seems and we've had polar bears on a tropical island since the pilot. It's a bit late to find those things silly now.
And I just didn't see Charlie's "a bear has Eko" comment to Hurley as Dom making fun of the script. To me it was Charlie still acting pissy and skeptical about Locke. I think part of the reason he went along was to see if Locke even knew what the heck he was doing.

Relax, pace. It has nothing to do with the subjects at hand. I don't have to suspend my belief that a polar bear would take Eko. It has to do with how the subjects were presented. This episode wasn't exactly a smooth transition from the hatch explosion. It also wasn't very smooth within the episode itself.
And you're probably quite right that the underlying motive in the Hurley speech was about Charlie just being skeptical of Locke's claims in general. Although I wouldn't say "pissy" so much as "eye-roll inducing." Much like I said (ergo killing two birds with one stone, mockin' Locke and the storyline). Charlie was more comedy relief than anything else.
lostlocke 10-19-2006, 06:21 PM I am glad Locke and Charlie had some interaction, I really hope they can be friends again.
CharliesHoodie 10-19-2006, 08:55 PM I'm sooo glad he's back =)
It made my day so much better.
lost for words 10-20-2006, 07:35 AM I'm so glad too, it was strange having two whole episodes without him!!
RodimusBen 10-21-2006, 11:46 AM Braces, eh? I KNEW something looked different about Charlie, I just couldn't put my finger on it!
SenatorKent 10-21-2006, 12:31 PM They'll explain the missing link between hatch implosion and the beginning of this ep...just give them time. It may take a while. Claire getting abducted? Took over a year for those answers.
