I think the most shocking revelation of lost will be when we learn that Desmond is the smoke monster. Notice how season two ended with a flashback of Desmond, why? He had a TWO hour flashback on the season finally, and through some miracle survived a fall safe explosion and hatch implosion. He is transformed/transfigured now. We also discover in the season finale that he is the one who crashed the plane-so technically he was the force that brought the survivors to the island. Being exposed to geologically unique electromagnetism for three whole years changed him. DESMOND IS THE KEY TO THIS SHOW, he is the soul of the island, he is the smoke monster, and he now has supernatural powers. Just watch, he IS Smokey.

Psychic ability is one thing, but I sincerely doubt TPTB will go in the direction of shapeshifting. Of course anything is possible, but I just don't see it happening.

I agree that Desmond is one of the major components, or keys, to the show, but I agree with sheba, I don't see shapeshifting happening.

well remember there was the podcast were they said that we have seen the smoke monster, but we didn't realize it. now many people seem to think that maybe the smoke monster was kate's horse, or dave, which would imply that the monster change its physical form. What im saying though, is that as Hurley says in reference to desmond having a fail safe "that's convienient". He wakes up in the jungle naked, surving something that is insurvivable. Im positing two theories, either desmond has been the monster the entire time, or that desmond is dead and the monster is impersonating him. Either way, you can completly disagree with my theory-but the fact remains that desmond is the most important character on the island and something is up with him.

no, I have to wonder if Desmond is Apollo, having risin from a thousand year sleep, now prepared for his conquest of the world, and the Losties are the just the first sacrifice to this long term suffering.

Maybe the smoke monster had entered the body of Desmond (assuming that the monster have possession abilities)?

I do remember one time seeing a puff of smoke come from where Desmond was sitting:)
